Meet Me in My Dreams
WindPretear
Seventeen-year-old Princess Lady Serenity tried her absolute best to fight off the building sharp pressure behind her brows. The increasing annoyance within her forehead caused her eyebrows to twitch repeatedly. Her four guardians trailed after her down the school hallway almost as if they were stuck to her like glue. She was exhausted from the constant attention and questions coming from her friends.
The last bell for the day chimed through the air as hundreds of students poured from their classrooms to navigate through the crowded hallways to start their weekend. The noise of students excitedly conversing about their upcoming plans, slamming of locker doors, and dodging overly excited students running down the halls added to the overstimulation she felt. All this, caused by her friends non-stopping pleads regarding something she didn't really want to talk about at the moment…or in such a public place.
"Oh, come ON Chibi Usa. Why won't you tell us?" VesVes pouted with a plea, popping out from behind the long-haired pink Princess. VesVes' books clutched to her chest in an iron grip as she tried desperately to keep up with Princess Lady Serenity's long hurried strides.
The four guardians had awoken from their slumbers in the Amazon when Chibi Usa turned fourteen years old. Even though the four had only really known each other for almost four years now, the connection between the five of them quickly strengthened into an unbreakable bond. Now, almost an adult, Princess Lady Serenity did not prefer to go by her nickname "Chibi Usa" any longer while in public. This nickname was a habit that the girls didn't want to break because it connected them on a personal level to the Princess. If Serenity was being honest, she preferred the girls call her Chibi Usa while in school to avoid revealing her true identity as the Crown Princess of Crystal Tokyo but not while in Princess form. Neo Queen Serenity thought it would be a good idea for her daughter to have exposure to the world outside of the palace, which is how Princess Lady Serenity and her guardians ended up in their current situation. The five were quickly enrolled in school once the guardians had returned and with the students having no idea their Princess studied amongst them under the name "Usagi Tsukino", the girls could act like normal teenagers during the day.
Said girls currently ran after their Princess down the long hallways of the high school, harassing the pinkette about a certain topic she avoided like the plague. Boys. Lately, the Princess had been acting very strange and they all concluded that it had something to do with a boy from the way the Princess's face would flush when the topic was brought up.
It all started when CereCere brought up a discussion during lunch hour regarding Princess Lady Serenity's coming out to society ball to be hosted the following evening for her eighteenth birthday. Everyone in the palace was busy executing plans made months prior to ensure the night was as perfect as could be. The four guardians had spent most of their free time during the week assisting the Queen's guardians with finalizing all the little details regarding the ball. It all started as an innocent little question really, until the topic spiraled out of control, and the girls became increasingly more curious from information they learned from the older guardians.
The Princess blushed madly and picked up her pace. Her skirt billowed in the breeze behind her as she stalked towards the doors. She focused on the glorious light of the day filtering just beyond the threshold and let out a breath she had been holding.
"To be fair," CereCere began as the girls jogged behind their fleeing Princess, "Minako did tell us you had a boyfriend. This is news to us!" CereCere huffed with clear annoyance, "We just want to know who it is!" She persisted.
Serenity's cheeks brightened red at the mention of the word "boyfriend". A vision of white hair and beautiful golden eyes flittered across her vision quickly and disappeared.
"It's not that Prince what's-his-face right? Prince Katsu? Bleh. He is awful." JunJun blanched, lurching over the stack of books in her arms acting ill. The mortified look Serenity sent her green haired friend was enough answer for a resounding no.
The ball to be held in Princess Lady Serenity's honor was a tradition in the royal family going back thousands of years. When a member of the royal household reached adulthood, there would be a party held in their honor. This was not only to signal the proper introduction into society but traditionally, also the opportunity to select a potential suitor for marriage. It was a given that suitors from all over the world would be attending this party, looking for the ultimate gain through the ultimate political marriage. Just the thought of being viewed as a grand prize caused Chibi Usa's spine to shiver at the notion of men approaching her for her position only -not her heart.
"PallaPalla has tried super hard, but she can't think of ever meeting Chibi Usa's boyfriend." PallaPalla scrunched her nose and tapped her chin as if she was overstimulating her brain thinking about all the possible candidates. The blue-haired guardian looked up towards the ceiling trying to force herself to remember who the mystery boy could be. PallaPalla was so focused that she accidentally walked into another student.
The Princess was often visited by princes from far-off nations looking to gain her favor. Her guardians, however, the girls knew the Princess wasn't interested in any of those guys.
Chibi Usa stopped suddenly in her tracks as the four girls slammed into each other and ultimately the pink haired Princess's back. Small gasps and grumbles followed from the abrupt halt while PallaPalla was knocked to the floor like a bowling pin.
"Helios…he's- he's not my boyfriend." Her hesitant voice shook as her cheeks flooded pink. The Princess clutched her textbooks tightly to her chest and lowered her face into the stack.
After a few moments, Chibi Usa peeked up from the books at her four friends gathered in front of her with questioning looks.
"Who is Helios?" CereCere raised a brow and placed a hand on her hip.
Sighing sympathetically at their expectant faces the Princess realized that she needed to revisit the past to jog their memories. The girls wanted an explanation and she felt like they deserved one.
Serenity titlted her head towards the opened doors, "C'mon. Let's go to the café. I have a story to tell you."
Over the next half hour, Serenity explained the story of her adventures from her travels to the past in great detail and how she came to meet Helios, Guardian Priest of Elysion. Chibi Usa told the girls about how when she returned back to the 30th century, she had never seen Helios again. That is, until about a year ago, when he began to appear to her in her dreams. Each night when the Princess would go to sleep she would wake in Elysion and spend her nights with Helios. The girls sat entranced at the story their Princess narrated to them as they ate burgers and drank milkshakes. When she finished, the four girls only stared back at her with wide eyes. They had so many questions but the foggy memory of meeting Helios in the past was becoming clear. Even though the four had prematurely awoken in the past, the memories they held of the time under the Dead Moon were incredibly fuzzy and frustrating.
"So…let me get this straight." JunJun began, sticking a french fry dipped in ketchup towards her pink haired friend, "You mean to tell us that you are dating a guy who only appears to you in your dreams?" The green haired girl popped the French fry into her mouth and chewed on the salty snack with a skeptical gaze towards the Princess.
Serenity's face turned deep red, "Jun…I told you we are not dating."
"I don't know Usa…from what you described it sounds like you are dating him to me." CereCere held up a palm and dropped each finger down with each point she made, "He is taking time away from his duties to spend with you, you talk with him for hours on end, you know basically everything you could know about each other, he takes you flying around Elysion, and he even-"
"Okay, I get it Ceres." The Princess madly blushed as she cut off her friend. There were definitely other details purposefully left out of the story and she explained as much as she was willing to share.
"Is he coming to your ball tomorrow night? VesVes questioned, voice low and eyes narrowing towards the Princess. Her suspicion was directed entirely on the fact that there was a man visiting her Princess each night, unbeknownst to her, and she wanted to make sure that he was serious about her.
The Princess frowned and focused her attention on the half-eaten burger on her plate, "I am not sure…but I hope so."
"PallaPalla thinks that from your story he will come, I know it!" The blue haired girl smiled and winked towards Serenity. Serenity grinned and silently made her wish that Helios would attend her ball,
"Thanks, PallaPalla."
That evening, Princess Lady Serenity lay back in her bed staring up at the moon illuminated ceiling. She thought about the conversation earlier with the girls at the café and her memories of Helios. Pulling up the covers, she folded her hands delicately over each other on her chest, closed her eyes, and let out a deep sigh she hadn't realized she'd been holding.
She was in love. She had been in love for a very, very, very long time. Ever since her first kiss with Helios as a child- she knew that he was the one meant for her. Her soulmate. She felt it with her entire being. Never before had she felt the same intensely pulling connection to another person.
Thinking back to the first time Helios had reappeared to her since her return to the 30th century, Serenity willed the memory to lure herself into a deep sleep. She briefly wondered if he would come to her again tonight as his visits had become a nightly occurrence almost immediately after they had begun one year prior.
Newly turned seventeen-year-old Princess Lady Serenity opened her eyes to the sounds of a soft trickling stream, chirping birds, and the calming cool breeze kissing her skin. The bright sunlight pouring past her eyelids created small dots to flutter across her vision as her pupils adjusted to the brightness.
"Mmhm." Serenity murmured, she sat up herself up and noticed the soft brush of green grass tickle beneath her fingertips. Rubbing her eyes until they came into focus, she immediately recognized where she was.
"Am I…in Elysion?" The Princess glanced around her to view the rolling lush landscape. Snowcapped mountains dotted the sky in the far distance and flowerbeds containing the most beautiful yellow and pink flowers bloomed before her. Birds sang and danced above her as she noticed the greenery of the trees and sparkling of the lakes and rivers all around her.
A soft neigh startled the Princess as she tilted her head back to find a very familiar sight. Her heart lurched beneath her chest as her hands pushed herself away from the fresh grass to propel her into a standing position before the approaching creature.
"Pegasus!" She exclaimed with delight, leaping towards the beautiful animal with arms open wide. She rested her head on his and wrapped her arms around his neck to give him a hug. Pegasus' fur, as soft and silky as she remembered, tickled as she buried her nose within his mane. The winged horse released a sound in his throat causing the Princess to step back and look at him. He made a sound and knelt to the ground, jerking his head to the side in a signaling motion.
"You want me to hop on?" The Princess guessed, pointing to herself and then his back.
He made a confirmation like sound while nodding his head and once Serenity settled herself on his back securely, Pegasus spread his white feathered wings wide. The two were in the air within an instant. As Pegasus leapt off the ground with a few powerful flaps, Serenity's eyes widened in slight panic at the motion feeling her body falter slightly off center.
Gripping his mane within her hands to keep herself secure, she glanced down as she admired the familiar sight of Elysion. Spotting the familiar temple in the distance steadily becoming clear as they approached caused her heart to thump uncontrollably. Attempting to gather her breathing, she placed a hand over her heart as the pounding of anticipation became so powerful it pulsed her chest. Realization dawned on her that she was going to be reunited with the man who had plagued her thoughts almost her entire life. Breathily, Serenity parted her lips to ask Pegasus her aching question,
"Are you taking me to Helios?" Serenity didn't realize how shaky her voice was before she heard her own unsteady question voiced aloud. Pegasus managed to hear the soft question and made a nod with his head as they soared over the landscape. Beginning to make their decent between the lush trees next to the temple, Serenity's hands began to tremble within Pegasus' mane as blood pounded through her veins. She looked up at the marble structure with wide eyes searching for a peak of Helios.
Once Pegasus landed safely on the ground, the Princess carefully slid off his back and gave his head a gentle pet. Turning around to face the stairs of the temple, she gathered her silky pink skirts, and made her ascent up the steps where she had once revived the Elysion priest from death. Each step felt heavier than the last as she climbed almost feeling an invisible force helping to pull her up. Serenity's legs felt so incredibly heavy as if they were held down by lead. Through this feeling she pushed through and continued upwards. Her chest constricted as a small fear filled her as she wondered if Helios would be as happy to see her as she was to be reunited with him. Panic filled her as she wondered if he even remembered her. For her it had only been a short span of time but for him…over a thousand years. A soft and warm comforting breeze enveloped her almost as if it were encouraging her to press forward.
Finally making her way up the stairs, she released her skirts and nervously wandered her gaze across the smooth marble of the top of the temple. Serenity's searching eyes didn't need to drift long until she found a form kneeling on the ground, back to her, in silent prayer. Serenity took in the familiar brilliant white hair and white robes trimmed in gold and teal. Her pulse quickened and heart thundered as she realized that Helios too had grown into an adult as she did. No longer was there a boy in front of her…but a man. Serenity felt lightheaded and her palms began to sweat from the nerves flittering within her.
Serenity attempted to calm her unsteady breathing as she feared she would interrupt his prayer prematurely. She fiddled with her fingers for a few moments in her gown before she couldn't take it any longer. The pink haired Princess couldn't control herself as she seemed to move on her own towards the kneeling man. She floated across the marble floor trying to remain as quiet as possible however the small clicks of her heels betrayed her presence.
Helios stood up from his position on the ground rising so slowly with his back still turned to her. Serenity marveled at how tall Helios had grown as he was almost a foot taller than her now. Her entire body reddened as she felt her temperature rise; it seemed as if she would always be gazing up at him.
"Helios…?" The pink haired Princess was sure her heart was about to explode from the thumping returning as he fully turned around to face her. The resounding of the thumps of her heartbeats were so loud they filled her ears. Finally. She would be reunited with her prince.
Helios was just as beautiful as she remembered, his golden eyes shining as his gaze captured her's and a content smile reaching his soft lips. Serenity felt her face become so hot as she tried to make it less obvious of her quick examination of his person. Helios had indeed grown into a man. She estimated he looked to be in his early to mid-twenties with his stronger features and physique. He wore the same exact outfit she remembered him in however he seemed more regal and mature now than in the past. The crystal horn was long gone from above his brow leaving just the red gem glinting on the center of his forehead.
"Hello, Maiden." Helios' voice was richer and deeper than she remembered. Serenity's heart skipped a beat again as they stood there facing one another. He reached out his hand with an open palm, beckoning her to come to him.
Serenity let out a small sob and felt a wave of relief filter through her entire body. Her red orbs glistened as she too took her own shaky step forward toward him, "You remembered your promise." She choked back her tears as she continued on, one shaky step after another towards the priest. He had promised her that they would meet again and here they were. Reunited at last.
Helios gave her a nod followed by a benevolent smile, "Yes. You must understand why I waited this long for our reunion..." He looked down at himself and back up towards Serenity with a sheepish grin.
A scarlet tint appeared across her cheeks as she realized that by the time she returned to the 30th century she was still a child and he…. well, he had already grown into his adult body by then.
His beautiful golden gaze held her pink orbs with resolve as she placed her delicate hand within his. Helios entwined their fingers and a feeling of pure energy filled her entire being at the touch.
Helios lifted their combined hands together to touch the back of her hand to his lips in a brief kiss, "I couldn't wait to see you again." The passionate love-filled confession spilling from his lips caused her to release the breath she hadn't realized she had been holding.
His deep voice struck somewhere so far in her soul like the pang of a brass bell as a resonation permeated her entire being. She needed to be in his arms. Right now.
The overwhelming urge to be within his reach became too much to bear as she suddenly leapt forward, releasing their combined palms. Helios quickly opened his arms wide to catch her as she closed the distance between them, skirts and hair billowing behind her. Throwing herself into his strong arms, she wrapped her own slender ones around him and buried herself in the warmth of his chest. Helios gripped her smaller body with such care as he placed a hand behind her head to press them both closer and leaned himself into her embrace. Being within his warmth felt like she had returned home after the longest journey. Tension the Princess hadn't realized she had been holding within herself instantly released as pure relief replaced it..
The tears Serenity had been holding back escaped in tiny trickles down her cheeks as she released another sob, feeling the overwhelming surrounding of the man she loved with all of her heart.
Helios noticed the wetness on her soft cheeks and pulled back slightly to gently wipe the tears away with his thumb. His brows furrowed as panic filled him, "Maiden, why are you crying?" His heart ached at the sight of her tears and couldn't bear to see her cry.
Serenity shyly looked away from him as she felt the soft caress of his fingertips on her cheeks wiping them dry, "I'm just…I'm so happy. I have been waiting for this day for so long." Her body felt like she was going to melt into a pile of goo being wrapped up in his arms like this. "Is this real?" The pink haired Princess didn't know what else to say or how to convey her feelings with words. Instead of waiting for his reply, she mustered up the courage and reached upwards behind the priest. She wrapped her delicate fingers between his silky white locks, pulling him closer as her eyes fluttered shut as she guided his head down to her. Once her lips touched the softness of his own, Serenity felt her skin tingle as she did the last time they kissed when she had brought him back to life. Helios responded to her motions by bringing her against his body with delicate care and molding her within his strong arms. Closing his eyes, he allowed himself to melt into her and poured his own feelings back to her through his kiss. So many words and emotions unspoken since their last meeting.
Serenity felt something within her chest stir as an invisible connection between them seemed to strengthen the longer their lips joined in a sweet kiss. Her body molded into his as Serenity deepened the kiss into desperation as she feared Helios would suddenly disappear. Serenity's fingers played with his hair as Helios wrapped one arm around her waist and used the other to press on her lower back. A soft moan escaped the pinkette mouth into his as a pang of pleasure erupted from her core all the way to her fingertips and down to her toes. She instinctively firmly pressed her lower half against his in efforts to join closer to him as their tongues danced.
It was at that moment he felt her sweet moan vibrate through him awoke something in Helios' passion-filled haze. Not wanting to release her, he reasoned with himself that there were more important matters the two of them needed to discuss before they could continue as they were dancing on such dangerous territory.
Pulling his lips from her's was one of the most difficult obstacles Helios faced in his long life. All he wanted was to continue to taste the sweetness of her on his tongue and feel her softness against him. Glassy orbs of pink met golden as they remained within each other's embrace, her hands still in his hair and his arms wrapped around her. Both gasped weakly, lungs feeling heavy as their bodies continued to burn with the blossoming need to be within the other.
"Come, Maiden." He rasped, still not wanting to let her go. Her fingers slid from the back of his head and around his neck to his chest. Helios took her hands gently within his own as he led the pink Princess back down the temple steps, both still in a trance, to a patch of lush grass below a blooming cherry blossom tree on the edge of a sparkling lake.
He assisted the Princess in getting comfortable on the ground in a kneeling position as their hands never detached. The peacefulness of Elysion was breathtaking around them but Helios only had eyes on her, "I want you to tell me of your adventures since the last time we met."
Heart still pounding and head still fogged, Serenity tilted her head forward in a nod, her gaze still locked on his. The smile that shone for her caused butterflies to flicker in her belly and a matching smile appeared on her lips.
"One condition." She gripped her fingers within his much larger ones. He sent a small press back.
Helios stared down at the Princess and realized that whatever she was going to ask he would give her. He would never be able to say no.
"Please, promise me. You won't leave me again."
Helios grinned and softly pushed himself backwards with his back against the smooth edge of a nearby tree trunk. Serenity's eyes flashed in alarm as she was quickly being pulled down along with him. A small gasp left her lips as she crashed onto his chest between his spread-out legs. Turning her around within his hold ever so gently, she rested her back against him with her head in the crook of his neck. Helios wrapped his arms around her as they settled into an embrace together. The Princess placed her hands on top of the arms he wound around her. She could feel the steady rhythm of Helios' heartbeat beneath her as she began her tale. They continued like this for hours until she fell asleep within his hold and ultimately awoke back in her bedroom the next morning. Alone.
Princess Lady Serenity had been heartbroken to open her eyes back in her own bed without Helios. She felt like a part of her was missing like the final piece that would complete a puzzle. The Princess wondered if she had dreamt of their meeting, but it was the faint smell of fresh pine and flowers still around her that further reiterated that it was in fact not a dream. A tickle touched her closed palm and when she held it up above her and released, a small white feather fluttered down. Her meeting with Helios really did happen.
The Princess went along with her day like normal but with a sense of melancholy. Chibi Usa decided to keep the meeting with Helios a secret and told no one. Serenity was thrilled to have met Helios again but he had left her. Sensing her mood, everyone in the palace avoided her as the Princess was slightly irritable and not in a mood to be approached. When her guardians and Diana had asked why she behaved the way she did she simply told them she didn't want to talk about it and that she was just overtired.
That evening when she went to sleep, Serenity was relieved her dream world once again sent her back to Elysion, back to her prince. He had kept his promise after all and hadn't let her alone.
Their meetings continued up until now in the present day. Every single evening for almost a year, when she would go to sleep, her dream would take her to Elysion. Serenity would spend her nights talking, laughing, and exploring Elysion with Helios as her physical body slumbered in Crystal Tokyo. Surely enough their bond grew stronger with each passing day and Serenity couldn't wait to fall asleep for the evening to be with Helios. He was her best friend, and they could talk about anything and everything. Sometimes words weren't necessary as they were content to bask in each other's company in silence, listening to the calming nature of Elysion with her in his arms.
Neither had dared attempt kiss the other since their first encounter. Up until this point, their nightly rendezvous were innocent. Serenity could feel the urgent pulsing need within herself, pulling them together like magnets whenever she was with him but she could always manage to push it back down.
Now, the urge was to the point that she was on the brink of insanity. Whenever the two of them were together, she had the urge to press herself against his body as close as she could get. If she could just experience those sparks of passion and electricity fill her veins as his lips claimed her's once more.
Serenity opened her eyes and stared up at the ceiling as her stomach constricted with a boiling feeling of need overwhelming all her senses. Her heart raced so quickly that she couldn't coax herself to fall asleep one evening. Her red eyes glazed over and thoughts became hazy as passion boiled through her veins like a volcano. The Helios within her vision hungrily captured her lips with his and as their tongues danced, his large hands roamed her body and explored her curves.
Serenity nestled herself back against her sheets and pulled the blankets up to her chin to cover the blush of her cheeks. Breathing in and out deeply for a few minutes helped her to fall off into sleep rather quickly.
She awoke in Elysion the moment she had fallen asleep in her bedroom. When her vision cleared, she found she was lying on her back in the soft grass gazing up at the sky.
"Helios?" Her breathy question rang through the air like a bell as some blue birds flew over her singing a sweet melody.
"Yes, Maiden?"
Serenity turned her head slightly surprised to find her white-haired prince lying beside her with love and warmth in his gaze.
The moment their eyes locked, her heart rate accelerated once again remembering her daydream of him just mere moments ago back in her bedroom. She felt the familiar heat on her cheeks as blood rushed to her face staining them pink. The burning need for pleasure once again consumed her like fire and she felt her sense of control fading. Whatever invisible thread that pulled her to him was quickly becoming something she could not push away any longer. Serenity shimmied herself closer to Helios as he watched her curiously until they were mere inches apart. She needed to touch the warmth of his skin against her's. Small strands of her pink hair fell across her forehead and Helios couldn't help himself but to reach out and spread them back off her beautiful face.
Mustering up the courage to ask the question she had wondered since their first meeting she finally allowed it to flow from her lips,
"Will I ever get to be with you in person outside of my dreams?"
Her question was hesitant and oh so quiet. She was afraid to hear the answer because she feared rejection. It was something that weighed on her mind ever since their spirited meetings began a year before and she was always too shy to question it. Serenity treasured the time she was already able to spend with Helios here in her dream world, but she wanted him. For real. And for herself.
Helios was silent for a few moments as he contemplated. His gaze drifted down to her pouty lips and then back to her stunning orbs. Finally finding his response, he genuinely replied, "I fear I do not know that answer…."
Sensing her emotional shift, he grasped a hand within her's with a firm yet gentle grip, "…But I hope, soon."
Serenity's heart thundered in her ears as they remained in their positions lying next to each other on the hardness of the ground. Her body pulsed like a steady drum to the point Serenity was convinced the ground beneath her was thundering. As Helios' hand grasped her delicate palm within his strong grasp, he laced their fingers in reassurance. Both the Princess and priest felt the familiar shock wave that coursed through their veins every time they made contact. This time, the shock was earth shattering.
She hadn't realized that a small whimper left her mouth at the feeling of rising pleasure that coursed through her veins at their contact. Her breasts swelled beneath her gown as the tips of her nipples hardened and peaked. Her self-control was slipping fast and before she knew it, she was reaching for him to pull his lips to her's in a fierce, demanding kiss.
Intense energy surged between the two as their arms both quickly wound around the other, pulling their bodies flush together, so tightly nothing could come between them. Just like her daydream, Helios urged Serenity on her back as he gripped her shoulders within his firm grasp. His legs braced himself above her body on either sides of her thighs as he crouched on all fours above her. Her eyes slid open and she saw the flicker of his dangling earring sparkle in the sunlight as their lips hungerly explored the other. Serenity arched her back up as she pressed into his hold, demanding lips dancing with each other.
Their lips parted as both panted, trying to regain their breath with Helios still above her. Serenity lay below him like a goddess sprawled against the earth, flushed pink, chest rising and falling rapidly. She gazed up at him through hooded eyes, heart thundering beneath her breasts. Helios resolved in that moment, he would do anything his Princess asked of him. Anything. For the rest of his long life. He would follow her to the ends of the universe to make her happy.
"Why-Why did you stop?" Serenity gasped for air and questioned the male above her with impatience.
Helios sat back on his legs in a kneeling position between her legs and pulled the Princess carefully up to him. Serenity raised an eyebrow with curiosity as he lifted her left hand to his lips and gently pressed a kiss to her knuckles.
"My Maiden." Helios closed his eyes as his lips lingered on her knuckles. She noticed the slight shaking of his own hand grasping hers. The pink-haired Princess watched as his other hand reached into his pocket to pull out a small velvet box. Watching curiously, he held it in front of her and presented, "An early Birthday gift." Serenity's heart fluttered as she accepted the small box and weighed it in her hand. It was smooth and covered in blue velvet. Glancing up into his golden eyes she noticed the reddening of his cheeks as he gently urged her to open the box.
Lifting the lid revealed the most beautiful ring she had ever laid her eyes upon. It was a golden band with a small red heart-shaped ruby that matched the gem decorating his forehead and small glittering diamonds flanked on either side of the ruby. Helios took great care in reaching for the ring to pluck it out of the box. She intently watched as he slid it on her ring finger and kissed the top of her hand once more.
Serenity felt like the world slowed to a halt around her as Helios slid the ring on her finger. Her body overwhelming filled with the sense of undying love.
Helios continued softly, "Maiden. Never fear anything when you wear this. Know that, as long as you wear this ring of protection, I will always be with you."
Tears welled in her eyes as she reached up to bring him down for a sweet kiss. "Oh Helios!" She looked at it on her finger, "I love it! This is the best gift I have ever received. Thank you."
Helios smiled and gathered her into his arms and rested his cheek on her head as she pressed herself into his chest. Serenity grinned in satisfaction when she realized the rapid pulse of the man beneath her cheek matched her own.
"Helios?" Serenity pulled slightly away from the man to meet his gaze. He raised an eyebrow in question.
Helios held her body to his and closed his eyes as Serenity played with his hair and reopened them when she finally spoke,
"I know I mentioned it to you before….but there is to be a birthday ball thrown in my honor for my introduction to society tomorrow night. I was wondering…" She nibbled on her lower lip, "I am hoping. Will you come?" She glanced up at him waiting patiently for his answer.
Helios kissed her forehead with the softness of a feather. Serenity blushed prettily as she lay on the grass staring up at him awaiting his answer.
"My Maiden, I cannot make you a promise I cannot keep. I do have my duties here in Elysion…" He started as she felt her world collapse on top of her. Helios felt the change in her demeanor and kissed her lips sweetly as he knew this was not the answer she wanted.
"I-I understand." Serenity mustered, the waves of disappointment consuming her and tears welling up from behind her eyes. She hoped with the ring he had given her and what they had just done that he would appear to stake his official claim on her during the ball. She wanted to scream, cry, throw a tantrum. Serenity realized that asking him to leave his duties was selfish and so she remained silent in quiet defeat. The one man she wanted more than anything in the solar system was so close yet so far away from her reach.
Helios frowned. He knew this day was rapidly approaching when she would want him to join with her above on Earth. Helios held one of the most important duties on the planet by protecting Elysion and the people of Earth's dreams. He wondered if he had made a mistake falling prey to his own sins of pleasure only to disappoint the woman he had loved for over a thousand years.
"Sleep now, my Love." Helios kissed her lips gently, urging her into the sleep that would send her back home. He couldn't stand for one more moment to see his maiden so sad. Small tears escaped from his closed lids as he pressed into her.
Serenity fought against the overwhelming heaviness that enveloped her being. She clenched her fingers onto the warm nakedness of Helios' back, "No, I want to stay with you!" She desperately mumbled into his lips as she felt him slipping away from her into darkness.
Serenity's eyes snapped open as she awoke in her bed, clothed once more in her nightgown. Tears welled in her eyes as she brought her hands up to swat the tears away. It was then she noticed the faint sparkle of the ring Helios had placed on her finger twinkle in the moonlight illuminating her bedroom. Glancing over at the clock on her night stand she realized that it was still the middle of the night.
Moving her body to the side to look out the window of her bedroom into the night sky she saw stars twinkling.
She curled herself up and reached to grab a pillow. Wrapping her arms around the soft plushness of the object she fell into her first dreamless sleep in over a year.
The next day flew by in a blur as Princess Lady Serenity was pampered and prepared for her ball. All she could think about was Helios and what they had done the evening prior, the soreness between her thighs a constant reminder. Her guardians sensed her upset behavior, but no one dared ask about Helios after the conversation they had with her the day before. They feared that Helios had told the Princess he would not be coming to her ball, inferring from her mood, and they didn't want to make her more upset. Instead, the girls did the best they could to prepare their Princess for the party by making her laugh and giggle at their silly antics.
Later in the evening when the party had already begun in full swing, Lady Serenity approached the dual doors leading towards the balcony at the top of the dual staircase. The staircase led down to the main ballroom in a grand swirl mirrored on either side of the balcony. The pink haired Princess could hear the muffled conversations of the crowd and smelled the delicious spread of food wafting from the stations along the walls. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she walked through the doors opened before her by two footmen. The glittering of the chandeliers twinkled like starlight and danced off the marble stone walls of the hall. Pretty kaleidoscope reflections radiated amongst the floor from the setting sun filtering through the various open French doors into the ballroom.
The crowd hushed to a murmur as Lady Serenity made herself visible on the edge of the balcony. The bottom of her pink gown kissing the edge of the railing. Setting a gentle smile upon her face she looked down through the crowd of hundreds of people tilting her head forward in greeting. Her eyes darted through the hundreds of faces looking only for one, with golden eyes and gorgeous silver hair.
Disappointment flooded her as no such face was found, and so the Princess released her grip on the edge of the balcony rail to make her way towards the left side of the staircase. The feeling of disappointment started to seep into her stomach but she pushed it down with stark optimism. "Maybe he will come. Maybe he is already here and I just simply have not seen him yet." Serenity inwardly reassured herself.
Serenity placed a sweet smile on her face as her parents announced the grand introduction of their daughter into society. Their words flittered in and out of her hearing as her distraction continued but she could hear them praise her and talk about how magnificent of a leader she would make one day. Then came the part where it was mentioned that she may find a suitor this evening and Serenity inwardly cringed as she could feel male gazes on her, hungry like piranhas. These men only wanted her for the chance to be King one day, and nothing more.
Once the announcement concluded, dozens of men lined up for the chance to dance with her. Serenity accepted each one as was expected of her but as she danced with the countless males, she would send polite smiles but not converse with a single one other than a few simple pleasantries. All these men had one thing in common. They wanted her for title only and didn't actually see her as a person.
Serenity's feet started to ache after the countless waltzing and ultimately broke away from her latest suitor, one who she couldn't even remember their name, and apologized as she told him she needed to take a break.
"Hanging in there?" Hotaru approached the pink haired Princess with a beverage which the latter eagerly accepted and downed. The two girls drifted off to the side of the dance floor where the four other guardians gathered. Guests kept their eyes on the Princess but no one dared to approach seeing a guardian in her presence.
Serenity sensing the eyes still on her sent Hotaru a look that screamed "My feet hurt and I am tired". The purple haired guardian giggled in apology, "Sorry, you are doing great." Hotaru had noticed the dull look behind Chibi Usa's gaze from the moment she entered the ballroom and after quickly being brought up to speed by the four asteroid guardians had figured out what was going on.
Hotaru nudged the Princess lightly with her elbow into her shoulder and muttered, "I'm keeping an eye out for him." By him, she meant Helios of course. She knew that the Princess had been distracted lately but hadn't known the full extent of what was going on until learning from the others. Due to the ball preparations, Hotaru had not attended school with them the day previous as she normally would and so she had missed Serenity telling the others of the story of Helios.
Princess Lady Serenity's cheeks flushed pink. Was she that obvious?
"Princess," A young man's voice interrupted Princess Lady Serenity's conversation with Hotaru. Serenity forced a smile to her face as she turned to face the intruder, but the grin vanished just as quickly as she plastered it on her face once she realized who it was who approached her.
Holding back a snort she dipped gracefully into a curtsy as the young man bowed back at her.
"Hello, Prince Katsu." She nodded in polite greeting. Even though the world was under one monarchy under Neo Queen Serenity's rule, there were still various kingdoms scattered across the globe for alliance and political reasons. The planet was too big of a place to rule single handedly. Prince Katsu was from one of those random kingdoms and Serenity never really bothered to remember which one. Katsu was a few inches taller than her with deep black hair and piercing green eyes. He was lanky and thin with the creepiest smile she had ever seen. Katsu had made a few visits to the castle over the past few years trying to win over her favor but his greedy personality and selfishness turned her stomach over a hundred fold. Serenity remained polite with the prince but it was clear that he only saw her as a prize and didn't want to truly get to know her. Katsu was used to getting everything he wanted and he made it very clear he wanted her…and to be the future King.
"I have come to wish you a Happy Birthday, Princess." His lips curled into a half smile, back straightening up once he came out of his bow.
"Thank you." The Princess nodded politely. She awkwardly stared back at the man in front of her who made no further moves. Prince Katsu consistently approached her during these types of events with his intentions to court the pink haired maiden clear. Unfortunately for Prince Katsu, Serenity also made her intentions to avoid the self-absorbed Prince at all costs with swift rejections.
"And, for a dance." He finally finished, breaking the silence. He held out his hand to her as she stared down at it. If she rejected him after dancing with other suitors, it would not look good for her at her own coming out ball. She inwardly cursed at the trap she was unable to escape from and the slimy snake knew what he was doing. Not wanting to do this but also not having a choice in the matter, she delicately set her left hand into his. His icy cold grip grasped her delicate fingers and tugged. Katsu suddenly paused and his eyes widened at the sight of the beautiful ring upon her ring finger before he tugged the Princess into a silent waltz. The red from the ring glittering beautifully in the sparkling lights of the ballroom. He sneered inwardly at the thing willing it to go away. He was so lost in his thoughts that he was silent throughout the duration of the dance as he contemplated. Princess Serenity was thankful for the lack of conversation but keenly aware of what he was staring at the entire time.
As the waltz drew to an end he cleared his throat and parted his lips,
"Princess Lady Serenity, you know that I have been quite persistent in asking for your hand. I have come tonight to ask you once again if you will be my wife."
Serenity resisted the urge to roll her eyes for the umpteenth time, "No, Prince Katsu. Regretfully, I cannot marry you."
"Surely you have not been spoken for already." His tone rose and eyes drifted back towards the jewel on her ring finger with distaste.
"As a matter of fact, yes, I have." Serenity was treading into dangerous territory but was determined to have the suitors stop. Starting with the dumbass in front of her. She had not in fact been spoken for but if it wasn't Helios, she didn't want anyone else. A little lie wouldn't harm Katsu.
"What?" He yanked her left hand and attempted to try and slide the ring off her finger. He would replace it with the insanely gaudy jeweled ring he had in his pocket. "This is impossible! You belong to me!"
Several bystanders gasped at the outburst of the Prince as her guardians made a move to get into position if the Princess needed help.
Serenity tightened her fingers together to prevent Katsu from removing Helios' ring and tugged her arm to no avail. "No, I don't think so!" She grunted, holding her fist closed and standing firm.
As she finally pulled her hand away from Katsu's grip, a familiar ring of a bell resounded within her ears. She turned her head ever so slowly knowing that sound.
"Helios?" She questioned breathily, eyes wide as blood rushed to her ears and pulsed within her head. Red met Golden. Standing behind her was the gorgeous Elysion Priest staring cold, hard eyes towards the Prince attempting to manhandle his Princess. The world seemed to come to a pause around them. She couldn't believe it. Helios was standing before her, dressed in his normal white robe attire as she had always known him to wear. His red teardrop jewel on his forehead sparkled from the glow of the room as he bent down into a low bow, attention back on her. The crowd parted and watched the exchange with curiosity and murmured whispers between them.
"Who the hell is this?" Katsu interjected, looking between the Elysion Priest and the Princess.
It really hit her, as he stood back up after a few seconds. He was tall and slender and devastatingly gorgeous. He looked exactly as he had appeared to her in her dreams only, she thought he looked even more handsome. Not one moment had gone by since childhood when they made that promise to each other that she did not think of him. It was only when he began to visit Chibi Usa one year ago from the day that she had the relief of knowing he remembered their promise and possibly, his love was as strong for her as her's was for him.
She felt instant pressure build up behind her brows and release as a tidal wave as tears welled up in her eyes as she took a hesitant step forward, almost afraid he would vanish into thin air if she moved any further. Helios gave her a small smile before setting his own foot forward, golden eyes shining with love and an equal longing. He held out his hand,
"Hello, Maiden. Happy Birthday."
Not caring what anyone thought, Princess Lady Serenity quickly closed the small distance between them and threw herself into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his torso, and buried her face into his warm neck as tears slid down her cheeks. He smelled clean and familiar – of fresh air and pine. Helios welcomed her with a smile and secured his own grasp firmly around her body. Prince Katsu's jaw dropped to the floor at the sight.
"You came!" Serenity cried, pretty ruby eyes sparkled from the tears gathering within them as she pressed herself further into him. Her hands gripped his robes as she tried to further reaffirm to herself that he was real. Helios squeezed her gently to let her know that he wasn't going anywhere.
The two pulled back to look at each other with adoring love.
Helios simply took her hand in his and motioned to the cleared center of the ballroom, "My Maiden, would you honor me with a dance?" His gentle gaze lowered, and they moved forward.
Serenity's heart and body pulsed as he led her into the crowd on the dance floor who parted for the mysterious man and their Princess. Serenity ignored everyone and everything around her as her focus was only on the man in front of her. The music began as the two joined together and seemingly floated around the floor as if in a trance.
Onlookers were mesmerized by the couple and hushed whispers of gossip continued in the background trying to guess who the unknown man dancing with the Princess was.
"That's got to be Helios!" VesVes cheered from the sidelines standing with the others. Hotaru nodded and smiled as she watched Chibi Usa and Helios grace the floor. PallaPalla and CereCere signed dreamily watching the couple and JunJun didn't take her eyes of the fuming Prince Katsu in the corner. He looked like he would burst into flames at any moment now.
The music ended as Helios dipped his Princess into the final dip. Helios bent his head forward, capturing her lips before all guests. Her hand reached up to cup his cheek as he kissed her.
A soft glow of golden light surrounded the couple at the touch and illuminated the room. The Princess' guardians suddenly braced themselves in preparation for defense,
"What's happening?!" JunJun reached her hand up to shield her eyes as did the other girls. The attendees all gasped at the sudden brightness, most trying to take cover from it and others crying out in confusion.
Sailor Venus made her appearance behind the quartet and placed a hand on Saturn's shoulder as the group watched the glow strengthen and radiate like the sun. "Two souls who are made for each other. Destined to reunite have been reunited." She mostly spoke aloud to herself than to the group of girls ending her statement with a loving sigh, still transfixed on the couple. JunJun raised an eyebrow, not understanding the elder guardian's message as the girls turned back their attentions to the couple.
Helios and Serenity parted as the glow faded away as he brought her back into a standing position. He grasped both of her hands within his and bent down on a knee.
"My Princess," He began, kissing the ring on her hand softly, "I am your humble servant. I vow my everlasting allegiance and offer my entire being to you. I promise to always stay by your side and protect you, my beautiful dreamer."
Serenity's gaze softened and squeezed his hand, "You are not my servant, Helios." His head lifted up towards her as she continued and he still knelt, "You are my equal. And I vow, to stay by your side and protect you with everything I have." Serenity signaled to Helios to stand and grasped both of his hands within her's, "For the rest of my life." She affirmed with a nod.
A pretty blush graced Serenity's cheeks as she fully realized the depth of their exchanged vows and public audience. Both leaned in towards the other and lips connected once more. This time, an incredibly bright pink and gold light filled the room. Gasps and awes from the crowd around them immediately sounded as between the two young adults as a glittering ruby colored crystal appeared between their chests. Serenity's ring finger tingled as golden light erupted from the ring Helios had gifted her and sprinted from the ruby. Parting their lips, their eyes widened as a large golden scepter, similar to the queen's, formed between their chests and expanded from the ring. At the top of the scepter was a golden heart and floating between the heart lay the new ruby crystal. Both grasped the scepter with wide eyes as the ruby crystal released its warm light blanketing the entire room in a beautiful glow. Both Serenity and Helios floated up off the floor a few feet along with the scepter and a brilliant flash of silver light sparkled like diamonds around the couple.
Once the light dissipated, the Princess' dress changed from her pink gown to her white and gold Princess dress. Helios' attire also changed into a brilliant white suit with gold trimmings along the front and up towards his collar. In addition to his brilliant white suit a long cape of white appeared behind him attached to his outfit by two ruby fastenings and gold chains stretched across the front. Shocked, both stared at the other with both sets of hands still gripping the glowing scepter before them as they lowered, and their feet touched the floor.
It was then Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion stepped forward, parting easily between the crowd. Neo Queen Serenity smiled proudly upon her daughter with her hand over her heart.
"Princess Lady Serenity, Priest Helios" She began, captivating the attention of the entire crowd. "Your love and promise to one another has born the Legendary Golden Heart Scepter and Ruby Moon Crystal." Both Helios and the Princess looked at each other in shock and back down to the scepter with the shiny jewel floating within it, "Together, you both will use this scepter and crystal to protect each other and our planet."
King Endymion rested a hand behind his wife and used his other to raise his staff containing the golden crystal to address the crowd, "We bestow our blessing on the future rulers of Crystal Tokyo! All hail to our future rulers, King Helios and Queen Lady Serenity!"
The crowd erupted in the loudest applause and cheering following the statement. Except the eager young bachelors of course who had lost their chance.
Princess Lady Serenity gasped and looked up towards her smiling priest who wrapped his own arm around her waist to pull her closer,
"I hope you don't mind that I asked permission to marry you, Maiden."
Serenity's heart couldn't feel fuller as she rested her cheek onto his shoulder. Her orbs glimmered with happy tears as he grinned down at her, "You are the best gift ever, Helios."
Their future looked bright, indeed.
Prince Katsu's face fumed bright red, "What is the meaning of this?! She is supposed to be mine! She chose a damn PRIEST over a Prince?!"
The four asteroid guardians rolled their eyes and created a human barrier between the new couple and the upset Prince, slowly using themselves to push him towards the exit.
"Sorry Lover Boy." CereCere wrinkled her nose in distaste at the scene the Prince was causing to himself.
"Our Princess belongs to no one!" PallaPalla declared, hands on her hips.
"Time for you to leave now!" VesVes snickered, sticking out her tongue.
Hotaru lead the Prince calming out the door onto one of the many balconies. She turned right around and calmly entered back into the room. Katsu remained dumbfounded on the balcony.
"BYE BYE." JunJun declared, shutting the doors behind them and locking the Prince out on the balcony.
The girls snickered at the confused look slapped across Katsu's face as the doors closed on him locking him out on one of the many balconies. He would have to decide to wait there until the party was over or shimmy down one of the many columns of the palace to make his escape. The girls quickly turned and returned to celebrate with their Princess and newly found Prince as Katsu screamed obscenities towards them on the balcony, the girls giggling all the way.
Thanks so much for reading! Was this perfect? Probably not. But, if you wait for something to be perfect, you will never post it.
Please consider leaving a review. I would love to know what you thought.
Bye for now!
