Honestly, I apologize for not including his other siblings besides Brother Noir. I honestly don't know how many he has. Much apologies. If you leave how many he has in the comments, I will fix the story accordingly. The first part is kind of depressing, but I promise you, you will be rewarded at the end for finishing it.
A Good Liar
"You will do okay." Fred told Vesper.
"How do you know?" Vesper mocked him.
"Now. Now. Am I supposed to tell my secret, am I?" Fred joked.
Che Vesper clicked his tongue, and glared at him. What does he know? What does he know about my pain? If you know, try helping me. And I know you won't, because you're lazy. You haven't worked as much as I did. You just didn't. Vesper spoke in his mind.
Fred moved away, and Vesper blamed himself for it.
"I am not a good person. I am not…" He told himself. Fred was one of the only people who was naive enough to treat Vesper well. When he disappeared, Vesper felt more alone.
But he didn't back down. He couldn't back down. All the world was against him. What would he have if even left him?
Fred…
"Vesper! Clean your room!" His brother shouted.
A year passed since Fred left him, and Vesper already forgot about him. Vesper cursed at his brother behind his back, and begrudgingly began to clean his room. It was dusty and filled with empty bags, sneakers and chips.
"He must have had a reason." Vesper convinced himself. He wanted to think good of his brother. He was his brother after all. But the heartache in his chest didn't dissipate, and his empty soul remained empty. He moved, carrying his tired body, picking up the remnants of his shame.
"What's the point.."
Vesper suddenly thought of Fred's words. Why did he sound so convincing? Why.. no way he experienced the same as I did. If he did…why didn't criticize me? His mind was filled with angst. "That bastard. He knew I would suffer. Or he didn't know and gave me false hope. I'm glad he left." But he backed down on his words, knowing how harsh he sounded. "I'm sorry Fred. But I can't…I just can't." He felt as if the tears were clogged in his eyes. He wanted to cry. But he couldn't.
Then some sort of paper was spotted by Vesper's tired eyes. It was a letter.
"I've never seen that before."
He looked at who sent it, and he was flabbergasted. It was Fred.
"He wrote a letter?"
He opened the letter.
Yo Vesper. You've come so far. I believe in you, but you're not ready yet. I will send you another letter when you're ready. But I believe in you. You will be okay. I can't help you on your journey, but I do know this. You will be okay. I am not looking down on you. We're both young. The world is our oyster. You haven't tried everything, right? You will do okay. I believe in you.
Fred was the only person that treated him well now that he thinks of it. Fred didn't leave him alone when Vesper glared at people. He didn't criticize him, nor did he frown at his behavior.
I see hope. Vesper thought. "You will be okay." Well, okay Fred. If you really believe so, I will take up on it. You better take responsibility..
He felt new fresh energy fill his mind. He decided he must act to become a better person. He thought about what he had left to do.
"I must remember other people's names. I must show interest in others' views. I must not go back down. I must not. I must smile."
He often thought about Fred's words, and followed his advice with blind faith.
A long while passed, and people miraculously started to respond kindly to his smile. He greeted others and complemented them first, and others answered happily. He was happy as well. He started to gaze into people's hearts. He saw their pain, their agony, and their potential to be happy, just like what he realized. He complimented them, and asked first if they were doing okay.
But Fred didn't send him another letter yet.
2 years later he became a popular Hololive Vtuber. His mind was at peace, and although he continuously worked, he had fun. Working was fun.
But he fell into a slump. Something was amiss. He wanted to get up, but he couldn't. He felt sad and powerless of how he couldn't make his followers happy. He felt anxious for some reason, and he didn't know why. It wasn't that he was afraid of his followers, nor was it that he didn't want to work.
"They're so nice to me, and yet.."
Vesper stared into the ceiling while lying down.
"It's sure comfortable. I wish I can stay this way. But..my followers..I am sure a happy person..Happy..Happy? How did I become happy again?"
He traced his memories back, and the first thing that came to his mind was his brother. He called his brother.
"Yo, what's up Vesper?"
"I'm good dude. I just need some advice."
"Oh. You're not doing well?"
"No."
"Oh? That's awfully honest. I like that. Spill the bean my dude."
And Vesper told him about his situation. Brother Noir nodded from time to time, and recalled someone unexpected.
"I realized you became somewhat different after Fred left. He was a good person. He loved you a lot."
Vesper didn't recall somehow changing. "Did I change?"
"Yeah."
"Okay..Why mention him now?"
"Oh. It's just that he sent a letter from Korea."
"Oh..Wait. WHAT. And you're telling me this now?!"
"Uh..sorry?"
"I'm going home. Tell mom and dad I will be back."
"Cool! Mom and Dad will be delighted!"
He arrived at his home and hugged his mother and father. Her mother had the eyes of an old lady who lived all her life taking care of the troublesome Vesper.
"Oh. You're looking for the letter? I kept it safely with me."
And it took only a moment for his kind mother to find the letter.
He opened the letter, and read it.
Dear Vesper.
I am in Korea right now! Here's my usual phone number. I see you're doing well. I just want to say this. You're the kindest man out there. You're the greatest achievement this mankind gave birth to, hahah maybe that's just flattery. But it's true. You're one hopeful dude. I recovered because of the time we spent together. You made me realize, the world may still have something left for me. I carried on, believing my happy days would come."
Vesper continued to read.
You were in so much pain. This is a guess, but you thought you wouldn't overcome it, didn't you? You thought you could've died helplessly, when nobody would mourn your death. I know that's wrong, but a young naive mind has a way of doing things. Even I don't know how. Even when I recovered, I didn't know what to say to you. I used to think why saints didn't help me, but I dare say it's because they're awkward as I was with you. But remember this Vesper. When I said you will be okay, I filled my heart with saying it. I took the greatest risk. And…all for a lie. Yes Vesper. I lied. "
"Huh?"
"I didn't know if you could become better. I didn't know how I recovered myself, so what right do I have to tell what you could be? All I could show you,..was my spirit. I put all of my past pain and endeavors into this one phrase. "You will be okay." Remember my dude. I just know everybody has good in them, and you're not special. I lied..because I had nothing else to lose if it was wrong, and I had everything to gain if it was right. I just hope…my spirit went through you. I hope you will follow this lie to make it true."
Love Fred.
"This dude..has a way with words." Brother Noir teared up.
His mother and father hugged Vesper, and he hugged them back.
"I must call him!" Vesper gleamed in happiness. He punched in the number, and the phone rang, and it was picked up.
"Hello?"
"Is Fred there?"
"Oh..Vesper. My dude."
A relieved Vesper poured his past pain, and his current happiness into this one sentence.
"I couldn't have done without you."
"I couldn't have done it without you either."
Vesper teared up.
"Oh yeah. But first, start your stream, would you? We miss you."
"Wait what?! You're a Vespie?!"
"I talk to your brother sometimes on social media. How am I supposed to keep tabs on you?"
Then Vesper realized the first letter was placed by his brother.
Vesper felt deceived in and out, and he loved every bit of it. Vesper chuckled, and promised to start streaming by the end of this week.
