Rowan Ross was… someone who disliked crowds. They were too annoying for his liking, always spreading the word on the ground about what was happening. It annoyed him, cause one mistake and everyone on your level would know what would be going on in your life, and he hated it. It's why he preferred being above them all.
Literally.
If you were to give him something to climb, he'd find a way to get up it. It was a fun challenge for him, it was also mind clearing for him.
Which was something he needed after two recent incidents in his life.
The first was his sister, Rose Ross. He was at home when his father, the principal of the school he went to, called to ask him where she was. Rose told him she was going out with friends, so he didn't know. After the call ended with his father, he tried calling Rose himself and got sent straight to voicemail. It was only later that night when his father came home that he found out that his sister had taken her own life.
And that broke him beyond anything.
The twins may have not gotten along all the time at school, but at home they were the best of friends. So hearing that she had taken her own life made him feel so… hollow.
It didn't even stop there.
A week had passed, and Rowan had stayed home because he couldn't go to school without getting sick. Every time he thought about his sister he ended up getting sick.
He couldn't stand being in his room anymore, or in the house in general. It was too suffocating for him. So, at night when everyone was asleep, he climbed onto the roof and just laid there, taking in the fresh air. It made him feel better, a lot better.
He took his phone out and turned it on for the first time in a week. He went to his photos, ignoring the mass amount of text notifications from friends, and scrolled through them, smiling at the old photos he had of him and his sister.
His smile fell when he saw one of him and someone else, a guy.
Kyle.
He quickly turned his phone off and put it away, memories of the missing boy coming back. It took him a lot to not start crying on the roof right then and there, but he managed. After wiping his eyes, he looked down and noticed police cars pulling up to his house. With a small sigh he went back inside.
There was a knock on the door and his mom answered it. It was an officer. He had come to report that his father, the janitor, and four of his classmates had gone missing.
That just made everything worse for him, he couldn't take it anymore and left the house, needing some air.
He needed to clear his mind.
He drove to a nearby mountain and began climbing, not even concerning himself with falling.
He needed to forget, to think of something else, to block his mind out of everything.
He didn't even notice the mist seemingly coming out of nowhere.
Just like that Rowan Ross vanished just like his father.
