Subject: Intern Assignment (Thierry)

Thierry,

Enclosed is the file you should be doing your transcription work on. As we discussed, your transcriptions will be passed along to the media department to be processed for merchandising - you may recall "behind the scenes" articles and a few Victor biographies. The Catelli biography is still our best-selling, but I challenge you to make the Akiyama account even more compelling. As you wrote in your internship application, the Hunger Games are about telling a story. Find the story and tell it well.

Send your drafts to me when they're completed.

Regards,

Jacin Yves

The footage takes place on Reaping Day in District One. The Mayor of District One is about halfway through his speech about the Dark Days. The crowd is a mix of completely bored or excited, which I always like better. The outer districts are so nervous all the time, so it's nice to see people get excited about finding out who the tributes are like I do.

Seated in really fancy chairs on the stage behind the Mayor are the District One Victors. I still don't understand why they have so few. Aurelia Charm is wearing this really gorgeous pink pantsuit and gold earrings. I still think she should dye her hair or her eyes or something, it would really suit her. She's definitely had some plastic surgery by this point, though, although I wish it was more interesting. I've seen her look really bored in some of the older years, from when she was younger, but right now she's paying attention. She seems to be looking for someone in the crowd, and once she finds them, she gives them a nod. Man, I would love to know the Volunteers ahead of time like she does. Is it true that she gets to pick them every year? Sitting next to her is her old Mentor, Augustus Braun. He's one of the only pre-Quell people still around. He also has a suit on, and I think he chose one that was too small on purpose so his muscles would show. I'm not complaining!

After waiting forever, the Mayor finishes the speech and the Escort comes forward! Luminah Sitee! They're sooooooooo gorgeous. They've got this really good purple skin tint, which I'm so jealous of because I've heard those can give you lesions if you don't do them right, but they have this really good lavender tone that must have cost bazillions. They've dyed their hair the same color, and had lavender eye injections too, so they have this really great monochrome look going on. Their nails are long purple jewels, and honestly I really think they're real jewels. I wonder where they got them done. They also have a long, flowy iridescent dress that I think I would die for and matching dagger stilettos. Luminah is the prettiest one there and definitely the best-dressed on the Escort list this year.

Anyway, Luminah talks for a little bit- I missed what they said because I was staring at their dress- and then sashays over to the Reaping bowl. They use their long jewel nails like tongs and pull a slip from the bowl. Then, they sashay back to the microphone and unfurl the slip so they can read it. "Our first tribute this year shall be… Mirinda Amaryllis!"

Wherever Mirinda is, she doesn't bother moving, and she doesn't have to, because someone else shouts, "I Volunteer!" and strides forward. And she's absolutely stunning, but like, in a natural district-born way. She's tall, with long legs and arms, like a model, but also really nicely toned. She has this flawless dark brown skin and her hair is cut really, really short, but she has a nice head shape so it looks really good. She has great cheekbones too. She's wearing this fitted black crop top with only one strap and a flowing gold maxi skirt with some gold jewelry.

She gets onstage and Luminah Sitee asks what her name is. The girl takes the microphone and says, "My name is Amar Firoza, and I am proud to represent District One this year!"

The crowd cheers a lot. Then, Luminah repeats the same process with the second bowl, taking even longer this time. They pull out the slip, unfold it, and announce, "Our second tribute this year is… Klaus Valentin!"

Immediately, another voice shouts, "I Volunteer!" The crowd of eighteen-year-old boys parts to allow him through. Unlike his district partner Amar, he's very short. She's probably a full head taller than him. He has straight, dark brown hair that just barely brushes his shoulders, light skin, and sharp, dark eyes. He has a square chin that he's holding very high and nice cheekbones, too. He's dressed more like the Victors, with a black suit jacket, black pants, brown dress shoes, and a gold patterned dress shirt. He's really pretty too, like Amar, but in a different way. When Luminah hands him the microphone, he lifts his eyebrows and says, "I am Katsuo Akiyama, and I am Panem's next Victor."

The crowd goes crazy again, and then Luminah talks a little bit more, and soon Peacekeepers come to take the tributes to the train station so they can come to the Capitol and train. Neither tribute is acknowledging each other yet. Amar is waving at the crowd- she seems really sweet, I like her a lot already. I bet everyone in District One adores her. Katsuo gives people in the crowd he recognizes a few quick, dignified nods, but doesn't bother smiling or anything. He's definitely going for a different angle here, which isn't my favorite, but that's okay.

Then the footage is over! Pretty good Reaping, right?
