Show Me Off, Dammit!
Despite having lived in the city for over a year, Weiss was still surprised at how different the city was from Atlas. Having grown up in a city that considered sleep a luxury few could afford, the calm of the city was rather unnerving; and never more so than in the mornings. With its empty streets, clear roads, and the thin mist that rolled in from the sea overnight and had failed to fully dissipate, the city had an eerie quality to it that put her on edge. Thankfully, it was rare that she found herself in the city at such hours.
While evening trips to the city to get dinner or watch a film with her team were not uncommon occurrences, their morning routines were usually far too busy with training and classes to even think about visiting the main city. However, with an invite to try out a breakfast café that was due to open in two days, it was an opportunity Yang had not hesitated to drag her along to.
So, on a morning that would usually be spent jogging around the school's campus, Weiss was instead sat at a table on the sidewalk of the Commercial District, her favourite white and black coat wrapped tightly around her to stave off the slight chill in the air. In her hand was her Scroll, its screen distracting her from the sunrise as she idly flicked through her girlfriend's social media.
Unfortunately, the page was not doing much to improve her already dour mood. As she scrolled through numerous pictures of mouthwatering food and colourful drinks and movie ticket stubs, many of them stood out to her. She had been there for many of them, sitting just across the table enjoying the meal with either her girlfriend or the rest of their team. Yet, despite her presence at the time of taking the picture, Weiss couldn't help but notice a lack of it on the page itself.
Pictures with Ruby were almost as frequent as the food Yang loved to post, though that didn't surprise her given the two tight-knit bonds the two sister's shared. Blake was also a common appearance, and even Pyrrha and Nora showed up whenever Yang posted at the arcade. However, outside of group shots of them on a team outing, Weiss was unable to find a single image of herself. And ever since noticing it, she was surprised just how much it bothered her.
The two of them had been together for three months, and she had loved every moment of being with Yang. The woman was kind, and thoughtful. Not a day went by where Yang didn't make sure she knew just how much she loved her, and the blonde's tendency for spontaneity kept the relationship exciting, yet she was also always mindful of her need for space. In truth, though it had only been three months, Weiss could not remember ever being happier, and she knew Yang felt the same. So it confused her why she was unwilling to share that with her followers.
With a sigh at the question, she tapped the image that had started all the worry off almost a week ago. Blake's face sat in centre frame, her brow furrowed as her amber eyes scowled at the camera that had been thrust into her face. Draped over her shoulder was Yang, her vibrant smile radiating warmth even from the screen. The two of them looked as different as chalk and cheese, but Weiss knew their friendship was unbreakable. She also knew that was all it was, and all it would ever be.
But the comments didn't.
I knew it! Your so cute together!
What an adorable couple 3
Girlfriend reveal?
Yang had replied to that last one clarifying that the two were just friends, but that hadn't stopped the hundreds of comments that echoed their sentiments. No matter what picture of Yang and Blake she clicked on, she knew the comment would be the same. As would the comments for any of the post-workout pictures with Pyrrha or Nora.
With a sigh, she closed the app and pulled up her photo album. It didn't take long to find the one she was looking for. Her and Yang sat on Beacon's lawn, the camera thrust into her face as Yang pressed a kiss into her cheek. The smile on her face left nothing to doubt on how happy she was, and even looking at it brought back that same warm feeling. It was the same kind of photo that had been uploaded with Blake, but taken a week earlier.
Yet, Yang hadn't uploaded it, and Weiss couldn't figure out why.
"Missed my face already, huh?" She heard her girlfriend's voice say from behind her. "You know I was only gone for ten minutes, right?"
"The pictures were good company," Weiss looked up at her girlfriend as the woman set a tray of food on the table and began to remove her jacket. "All of the beauty, none of the talking."
Yang stuck her tongue out at the playful jab, and Weiss simply smiled in return. As much as the lack of pictures still bothered her, it was easy to feel happy when around Yang. It was just one of the many things she liked about the woman.
"So rude, and I even ordered your favourite."
Weiss looked down at the tray and saw the delicious looking breakfast Yang had ordered. The eggs benedict sat in the middle, the generous drizzle of hollandaise sauce enough to make her mouth water. Surrounding it were two plates of pancakes and some melon and apple salad. Beside it was a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. For a small breakfast café, it all looked really good, and Weiss couldn't wait to tuck in.
"Which I am assuming I cannot eat yet?" She already knew the answer.
"Sorry," Yang apologised and pulled out her phone. "Just gotta take some pictures."
Weiss gave an understanding nod of her head and leaned back out of the shot. Wasting no time, the woman began taking pictures of the food and the store. Thankfully, Weiss knew Yang had never particularly cared about the quality of her photos. Rarely did she take the time to make sure everything was perfect, and instead preferred to capture them as they were. So, within only a couple of minutes, the pictures were done and Yang was typing away on her phone. As the blonde sat down, Weiss heard her scroll buzz on the table as a notification lit up her screen.
Early breakfast with the girlfriend at Meggscellent Morning on the east side of the Commercial District. Opens on Monday, and all customers get 10% for the first week. #QueerOwned #Sponsored #PaidInFood
She smiled at the "girlfriend" part. Though it was frustrating that Yang seemed to be keeping who she was a secret from her followers, she loved that Yang was never subtle about the fact they were dating. Even if she wasn't in them, she would always be referred to in the description with pride.
"Okay, now you can eat."
"Finally," She groaned.
Though the food looked delicious, the first thing she reached for was the coffee. As the bitter taste of the dark liquid warmed her, she let out a relieved sigh. Opening her eyes, she saw Yang watching her with an amused grin.
"What?"
"Nothing," Yang chuckled and stabbed one of her pancakes, "Just still funny to me that you, of all people, hate the cold."
Weiss could see how it would amuse the woman. Due to her home being situated in the middle of a tundra, she supposed it wasn't unreasonable for people to assume she had a preference for the colder weathers. However, the truth could not be more opposite. Weiss hated the cold. She hated how she could feel it in her bones, how it drained her of all her energy and made her feel tired and lethargic.
"I am the daughter of the richest man in the world," she said and reached for her eggs benedict. "We had heating in the mansion. One of the few good things about it, actually."
Yang hummed before leaning in with a mischievous grin. "Well, I'm happy to share my heating, if you want."
Though Weiss rolled her eyes at the teasing, the offer was indeed tempting. Whether it was her semblance or just her genetics, Yang generated heat like a furnace. It was yet another thing that drew her to the woman. Just like her personality brought life to any situation, her mere presence brought a comforting warmth.
"That would make eating very difficult," Weiss replied with a flirty smile, "You can warm me afterwards."
"Free breakfast and a cuddle date with my beautiful girlfriend?" Yang's eyes lit up with an excitement that Weiss found endearing, "Couldn't think of a better morning."
The sincerity in Yang's voice was enough to make Weiss blush, but also enough to make her feel stupid. Why did she care if Yang didn't post pictures of them together? What they had was good, amazing even, and she didn't need the world to bear witness to that. Unfortunately, even though she told herself that and knew it to be true, that didn't fully erase the frustration that was bubbling within her.
"AHA!" Yang cheered. Her fist pumped the air as the booth owner let out a loud groan. "Told you! Not a single bottle standing."
Weiss shook her head at her girlfriend's childish glee. Though the silly pier game was far below their skill level, enough that Yang had managed to knock over all six towers with only two balls, it was fun to watch Yang enjoy herself. After all, it was her zest for life that had first caused Weiss to fall as hard as she had.
"Alright,"Weiss held her hand up in defeat. "I stand corrected."
Yang gave a small gasp. "The Weiss Schnee admitting defeat? Are we in a bizarro world?" She gave the blonde a playful scowl before she turned back to the owner of the booth. "Alright, what's my prize?"
With a defeated expression, the man pointed to a rack on the side that was filled with a collection of large stuffed animals. Almost immediately she saw Yang's eyes fall onto a giant panda that was almost as big as she was and felt a wave of sympathy for the owner. No doubt he had not expected to part with it.
"I will take…" Yang paused and pointed towards the panda, "The fox."
Weiss raised an eyebrow, as too did the booth owner. Glancing over at the panda, she saw a small, white fox hanging next to it. Unlike the prize Weiss had been sure the woman would pick, this one was barely the size of her forearm. Obviously not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, the man didn't ask questions and handed it over.
"Thank you," she smiled at him. To Weiss' further surprise the stuffed animal was held out to her. "Here you go."
The proud, beaming smile on Yang's face brought one to Weiss as she reached out and took the fox. Though it was far from the gifts she had become accustomed to being presented with growing up, the feeling behind it made it far more special than anything she had received before.
"Thank you," she blushed, feeling a happy warmth rush through her.
"Cute Atlas Fox for a cute Atlas woman," Yang winked, "Now you've just gotta name it."
"Name it?" Weiss pondered.
She raised the stuffed animal and inspected it closely. While definitely not the highest quality, it was undoubtedly cute. Its pale blue eyes stood out against the soft white fur, which was tinged blue around the ears and tail. As she gazed upon it, she felt a sense of familiarity as a memory came rushing back to her. A small hint of happiness in her childhood playing with her siblings under the watchful eyes of their family butler.
"It…" She hesitated, not wanting to sound childish. "Klein used to call Whitley his little Snow Fox. Would it be weird to name it after my brother?"
"Huh?" Yang seemed surprised at the question. "No? I've got three called Ruby. Well, one. One is a dog called Ruby-doo, and the other is a kangaroo called Kangaruby."
Weiss could imagine the proud smile on Yang's face when she came up with those names. With the name of her own decided, she looked at it again and felt an odd sense of happiness as she made its paw wave.
"He's perfect," Weiss smiled softly and placed the stuffed animal in her bag, its head poking out just enough that she could run a finger over the soft fur.
"That's because I'm a teddy aficionado," the blonde grinned, obviously satisfied with herself as she slung a muscular arm around Weiss' shoulder.
A comfortable warmth enveloped her as she was pulled back into the crowded pier, and she was more than happy to lean into it. For the next couple of hours, they stayed like that as they explored the rest of what the pier had to offer. As they made their way between food stalls and game booths and puppet shows for kids, Yang snapped picture after picture.
"Hold," the blonde ordered as Weiss picked up a large mallet. Even with all her training, she still felt her arms shake at its weight. "Hold. Almost there."
"Yang…" She began to scold the woman, but saw a mischievous grin on her face that told Weiss the picture had been taken.
"Sorry, couldn't resist," the brawler teased, "Cute woman with big hammers is a good look."
"Maybe you should have dated Nora then," Weiss returned the teasing.
Putting as much strength into her arms as she could, she brought it down and struck the button. Unfortunately, much to her annoyance, the bell did not ring.
"Oooo," Yang let out a playful groan, "Just a little too weak."
"Uh huh," Weiss put a hand on her hip.
With a point of her finger she summoned a small, black glyph under the metal weight. Turning it red, she released it. The sudden burst of energy sent the weight rocketing into the bell. The loud clang rang out over the crowd, and a ticket was produced from the side of the machine.
"Now that was cheating," Yang chuckled at the display.
"And you using your strength wasn't?" Weiss cocked an eyebrow and pulled her ticket free.
"Nope. No semblance needed," she flexed an arm, her bicep bulging and causing the sleeve of her jacket to stick tightly to her form, "All natural muscle, baby."
Weiss hummed in feigned disbelief. Reaching out she squeezed the bicep and found it as firm as stone, but gave her an unimpressed look. "A little squishy. You need more protein."
"Bitch," Yang swore playfully. The arm fell and snaked its way around Weiss' waist, a smile forcing itself onto her face as she was pulled in with little effort. Not that she gave any resistance.
She looked up into her girlfriend's lilac eyes and let her hand glide up from the woman's bicep to the back of her neck, losing it in the mane of wild blonde hair. A surge of excitement ran through her as Yang bit her lip. Three months, and every moment between them still gave her the same feeling as the first. The giddiness, the butterflies in her stomach, the complete inability to not smile. It was intoxicating.
However, as Weiss leaned in to steal a kiss, she felt Yang's hand slip to her waist. The fingers dug in gently and began to twitch, the sudden action causing a burst of laughter to escape her as she cringed away from the assaulting hand. The tickling only lasted a moment, as Yang took full advantage of her being off balance to spin her on the spot. Her arms draped around her shoulders and pulled her close before pressing a chaste kiss into her cheek.
Though Yang's body was mostly muscle, Weiss still found it easy to melt into her.
"Nope," The blonde popped the P just as her sister tended to do.
"Really?"
"Rudeness and cheating don't deserve to be rewarded."
"But the latter is a result of your influence?"
"How dare you!" Yang replied with her best attempt at an offended gasp. "I am a model citizen, thank you." Yang chose to ignore the doubtful hum Weiss gave in return. "Now, smile for the camera."
Sure enough, one of Yang's hands pulled away and held up the Scroll. With her movement less restricted, Weiss twisted her body as best she could and pressed a kiss into her girlfriend's cheek just as the picture was taken. Once it was, Yang pulled up the new picture and Weiss gave an approving nod at how happy they both looked.
"I like that one," she smiled.
"Me too. Totally screensaver material."
With a few swift presses of the screen, Yang set the picture as her new screensaver. It was a small action, but one that made Weiss even happier.
"Now," Yang's other arm slipped from around her shoulder, tracing its way down her arm until they're hands met, "We should get to the ferris wheel before they close it. Best view of Patch I'm gunna get for months."
Weiss gave her girlfriend a nod, entwining their fingers as Yang pulled her towards the giant rotating circle at the end of the pier. As they made their way through, she began to scheme in her head. In a small box away from the crowds, she knew it would not be hard to break Yang's supposed punishment.
Night had begun to fall over the city. As Weiss walked out into the darkening street, she watched distant street lights and apartment windows flicker to life, their glow reflected on the wet pavement. People had all but disappeared, either having retired for the night or enjoying whatever nighttime activity appealed to them. Thanks to a small summer shower, the chill that had blown in from Atlas was gone, replaced with a gentle warm breeze that made her release a sigh of relief as she waited on her girlfriend.
They had not intended to spend the entire day out together. It was supposed to have just been breakfast, but with Yang's interest in the pier fair and her own interest in seeing the new Dust exhibit, an unspoken agreement had been made between them to just stay in Vale. Though, Weiss was not going to complain about how the day had turned out. Just like every day with Yang, she could hardly remember a time where she had felt happier.
She was happier still to feel arms snake around her shoulders, and reached up to rest her hands against them. "All ready to go?"
The blonde hummed contently and held up a bag that had been pressing against Weiss' stomach. "Couple of extras bagged for later, too."
Weiss shook her head. After complaining about the portion sizes Yang had ordered double of everything she wanted. But even after they had finished the dessert, the woman had ordered extra to take home. She was hardly surprised, however. Being from a Mistralian family, Weiss knew Yang was accustomed to having a table struggle to support the weight of the food placed upon it.
"I will let you pick the place next time."
"Hey, it was still great," Yang shrugged, "Just need more than a mouthful on the plate, you know. You sure you don't want me to go halves, though?"
"I'm sure," Weiss appreciated the offer.
"Okay then," Yang breathed, her breath smelling of strawberries and cream, "So where to now? Anything else you wanna do, or are we going back to Beacon?"
"I think I am ready to retire for the night," Weiss answered with a mischievous grin, "But the dorm might be a little too crowded for me tonight."
She felt Yang nuzzle a little deeper into her, "Oh really?"
Weiss hummed her confirmation and twisted around to face her. Throwing her arms around Yang's neck, she stared into the brawler's eyes to make her intention clear. "There is a nice hotel nearby, however. I think that would serve as a better end to this night."
Yang gave an excited smile, one that caused Weiss' skin to prickle. Unable to resist, she rose up onto her toes and pressed a kiss onto Yang's lips. Still high off the rush of such a great day, the feeling that pulse through her was exquisite; so much so that she almost missed a different feeling trying to worm its way into her mind. But not for long.
The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end as the feeling of being watched settled on her. Her training took over, and her senses activated to identify the cause not far away from them. However, before she could even break the kiss, Yang's hand had already left her waist, followed by the sound of flesh meeting plastic and a disgruntled complaint.
"Hey!" Said the man's voice.
She withdrew herself from her girlfriend and gave the man a tired look. Though the hoodie and jeans gave him the look of an ordinary citizen, the lanyard around his neck showed he was a journalist. For which magazine, Weiss didn't care enough to read, but she didn't doubt it was one that specialised in gossip. They were usually the only ones brave enough to hound her. In one hand was a tape recorder, and in the other was a camera that Yang was holding by the lens to prevent any more pictures being taken.
From the tension on Yang's finger, Weiss could tell the woman was restraining herself from what she wanted to do.
"Weiss!" The man started before she could tell him to leave. "Our readers would love to know what your thoughts are on your father refuting the SDC workers claim…"
"I have had no thoughts on the SDC's actions since I stepped down from my position as Heiress to focus on my future as a Huntress," Weiss scowled at the man. "However, given the vile man I know my father to be, I side with the employees completely. And no, I will not be answering any more questions."
Despite her words, she knew the man would try for more. "Wait! Is this your girlf-"
His words were gut off with a slight pained groan as Yang twisted the camera into his chest. Her lilac eyes locked onto his, their colour swirling until they turned into a deep red. Weiss watched fear enter the man's eyes.
"No means no, dude," She snarled at him. "Don't make me break your camera."
He gave a nervous nod of his head, and Yang let go of the lens. As quickly as they had turned red, her eyes shifted back to their soft lilac. Though Weiss didn't doubt he would take more pictures as soon as her back was turned, Yang's warning seemed effective enough to keep them out of their faces. So with a happy smile of her own, he took her girlfriend's hand and led her away from the man and towards the hotel.
"You should have destroyed it," she smirked as they rounded the corner, "It's what I do."
Yang chuckled. "Oh, I remember. I just have more restraint than you."
"Hmm," Weiss hummed amusedly and wrapped her thin arms around one of Yang's muscular ones. "That has not been my experience. Need I remind you what happened on the ferris wheel?"
"Nope," Yang lips formed into a wicked grin, "I remember it vividly. And I will finish it when we get to the hotel."
Weiss felt a shiver run through her at the purr in Yang's voice. Even the interruption had not been enough to dampen her happiness, and so clinging a little tighter to their girlfriend's arm, she picked up her pace a little.
"We best get moving them," she answered with a seductive smile, feeling Yang match her pace.
Sat in front of the hotel window overlooking the city, Weiss idly pulled a brush through her hair and listened to the humming that came from the shower. The night had been just as satisfying as the day, and though it had been nearly an hour since, the pleasant fuzziness remained, each stroke of her hair sending a nice tingle through her body. It was almost enough to keep the worry from her mind.
Almost.
Despite how much she had enjoyed the day however, left alone in the room her attention had once again returned to her Scroll. A notification of a new post to Yang's social media had been waiting for when she had left the shower, and though she had tried to tell herself that she didn't care, her curiosity had gotten the better of her. Sure enough, not a single one of them was a picture of them together. And even worse, Weiss could tell it was purposeful.
She recognised multiple pictures and when they had been taken, and knew that there were pictures of them together between them. In order to select them, Yang would have had to purposely skip all the ones that included her. It was that new knowledge that bothered her and threatened to end such an amazing day on a sour note.
The entire day, their relationship had felt as strong as ever. Yang's actions had proven that the spark was still very much alive, and the care she had shown was almost brighter than what had caused Weiss to fall in love with her in the first place. With things between them being better than ever, it only confused her more why Yang would wish to hide their relationship from people.
It didn't make sense to her. Her entire life she had been surrounded by people who had made their connection to her clear due to the door it could open for them, and it had always annoyed her. Enough that she had chosen to attend Beacon over Atlas to lessen its frequency. It had worked, to a degree, but after finally finding someone who she wanted to be proudly shown off by, someone who put most of their life on the internet anyway, they were refusing to do so.
As loath as she was to admit it, it annoyed her. As stupid as she knew it to be, it caused an itch, one she wasn't sure how to confront. So, as she heard the door to the shower unlock, she closed her Scroll and made a show of brushing her hair.
"Damn," Yang breathed as she left the room. The woman wore a crop top and shorts-her usual nightwear-and Weiss could see the steam rising from the blonde's shoulders in the reflection of the window. "That shower more than makes up for the cost of the room."
Weiss tried to reply with an affectionate smile, but what she saw in the reflection of the window annoyed her even more. Instead of the genuine warmth she intended, she saw the same practised smile she had used for most of her life. It was a smile she had never given Yang before. Even more frustrating was how Yang's face fell upon seeing it.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine."
Much like the smile, her words came out more terse than she intended. Frustrated at her own inability to control her emotions, she let out a sigh and shook her head. She didn't want such an amazing day to end in a fight.
"Okay," she watched worry enter Yang's eyes, "If I ask again, are you gunna tell me the truth this time?"
Weiss placed the hairbrush down and stood up with a groan. Though she wished she could have ignored it, Yang was now aware that something was bothering her. Knowing Yang well, she knew the blonde would not let it go until she found out what it was, so taking up her Scroll, she opened it up to reveal the still loaded page and gently threw it onto the bed for Yang to see.
"Why don't you upload pictures of us?" The question was more accusatory than she meant, and definitely sounded more childish than she would have liked, but at least they were finally spoken aloud.
Unfortunately, Yang's reply only confirmed her suspicion that her absence was purposeful. With a scratch of her head, she looked away awkwardly. "Oh…" She muttered.
"You upload pictures of everyone and everything else," Weiss continued, hoping her explanation would make her sound less petulant, "And you are always taking pictures of us, but you never upload them. And I don't understand why."
She waited as Yang thought over her answer. Numerous emotions flickered across her lilac eye; from shame to worry to confusion. That last one seems to be the most dominant, and the one she went with. With an apologetic look, she gave a soft shrug of her shoulders.
"I just figured you didn't want me too."
Weiss' confusion at that statement was greater than Yang's. "What on Remnant would make you think that?"
"Well…" Yang reached up and untied her ponytail causing her hair to spill over her shoulders like liquid gold. "You weren't exactly a fan of having your picture taken last year, and you already have enough of the press following you everywhere and sticking your face on magazines, especially since you stepped down from the company and spoke out against your dad."
"I guess I just thought you wouldn't want your face plastered even more places that would make even more people talk."
Weiss felt herself shrink a little in shame at Yang's answer. Just as she thought, her concerns were stupid. Yang was being respectful of her privacy, just as she had been in every other regard. And yet, her own doubts and insecurities had caused her to assume the worst.
"So you were just thinking about how I felt?" Weiss voiced aloud, more to herself than to Yang.
"Well yeah," the blonde replied anyway, "What did you think I was doing?"
"I…" Weiss shook her head. "It doesn't matter. I was just being stupid."
However, as she made to turn back to the window, she felt Yang's hand land on her waist and pull her back. The hand itself was firm, but the pressure was more guiding than forceful. Weiss knew she could continue to turn away, that Yang would allow it, but instead let herself be held steady.
"You're not being stupid," Yang's voice was reassuring, "If it's worrying you then it's important, and I want to know."
Weiss looked up into Yang's lilac eyes and found comfort in them. She knew that no matter what she said, Yang would not judge her or downplay her concerns. So, with a small sigh, she shook her head.
"In my world, you are either a boon or a burden," she explained, "And when someone stops associating with you publicly, it's usually the latter. I thought maybe I was too controversial for your page."
"Too con- Weiss," disbelief tinged Yang's voice as she shook her head, "I don't see you like that. I've wanted to post the pictures of us, but I also wanted to respect your privacy."
There was just as much honesty in Yang's words as the first time she had said them. However, with her doubts no longer internalised, they provided more comfort than they had before.
"You are one of the few people who do not have to worry about that," she let her arms reach up to wrap around the nape of Yang's neck, "I like taking pictures with you, and I want you to show me off like you do others."
Yang gave an understanding nod in return, though raised her free hand to scratch her head. "I guess I could've just asked, too, huh?"
Weiss chuckled as relief began to settle in. "That might have helped both of us," she smiled, "Why didn't you?"
"I didn't want it to be taken the wrong way," Yang shrugged, "You hate being in the public eye, and we're still kinda new but I'm really liking what we have and I'm just…" the rambling stopped as she took a breath to steady herself, "I'm just trying not to fuck this up, you know?"
"I know how you feel," Weiss admitted. It was still a relatively new experience to have friends, let alone a girlfriend. "But you are doing incredible so far. Not that I'm grading you."
"Liar," Yang joked, causing them both to smirk, "But good to know."
The hand that had been scratching Yang's head moved away to join its partner on Weiss' waist. Their eyes were still locked on each others', but the tension that had filled the space between them was gone, replaced with a gentle warmth that made Weiss feel floaty.
"So did I make you feel better?"
Weiss gave a nod, "And I you?"
"Mhm," Yang hummed with a happy smile, "Now, what do you say we watch a documentary, or dog videos or whatever you want, and then head to bed?"
It was a simple suggestion, but Weiss liked it. The quiet nights were always her favourite. So with a smile of her own now that her worries had been assuaged, she leaned up on her toes and pressed a kiss into her wonderful girlfriend's cheek.
"I would say that sounds perfect."
Sunlight streamed through the window as Weiss awoke. The golden glow stung her eyes, encouraging her to stay awake despite the soothing birdsong that floated through the open window and tempted her back to slumber. Despite wishing to listen to the latter, however, she listened to the former, and sat up to stretch the sleep from her body. As she did, she noticed the emptiness of the large bed.
Yang was gone, and with not a single hint of the warmth she usually left behind, no doubt had been for a while. The bathroom door was open, and no sounds came from inside, so Weiss surmised she was indeed alone in the room. It was a little disappointing. She enjoyed waking up with Yang and spending an extra few minutes every morning in her arms revelling in her body heat. But if she was gone, Weiss knew it was because she had things to do.
Sure enough, as she looked to her side, she saw a hastily drawn note propped up on the bedside table.
'sparring with blake so left a little early. whitley has your coffee xx'
Her brain still waking up, the last line confused her, though not for long as a quick scan of the room cleared things up. Sat in front of the television was the little snow fox Yang had won for her the day before, and behind it was a thermos with a red dust crystal embedded in its side. Another note rested beneath the fox's chin, and as she got up to read it, she let out an amused chuckle.
'weiss' coffee. hands off!'
With a smile at her girlfriend's playfulness, she ran a finger over the soft fur of the stuffed animal before grabbing both and returning to the bed. As she sat down and pulled the covers back over her legs, she took a sip of the drink and let out a sigh of relief. Even Yang could not compare to the taste of coffee in the morning.
With the deliciously bitter taste of the drink on her tongue and the warmth it spread through her system, she let out a soft yawn and reached for her Scroll. Even though it was Sunday, there was still some work she could go over, especially in the quiet of the hotel room. However, as she unlocked the screen, a message awaited her from Yang's social media, and the tagline removed any thought of studying from her mind.
Shh! She's sleeping. #GirlfriendReveal
Even for her, the speed in which she clicked the notification was impressive. The device took a second to load, but once it did, Weiss was finally greeted by a picture of them both together. It was a new one, one that had been taken that morning. Her sleeping body was nestled against Yang's, her head resting on the blonde's brawny shoulder as her arm laid across her chest. Much of Yang's face was hidden by the mess of white hair that surrounded them both, but even Weiss could see the woman was pressing a kiss into the top of her head with a smile on her face.
It was the first time Weiss had ever seen herself asleep, but she was surprised at how peaceful she looked. Her features looked softer than she had even seen in the mirror, and there was no hint of the day-to-day stress that always crept up on her. Only a year ago, she would have believed such a look on her face impossible; but after years with friends she genuinely cared for, and a girlfriend who made her feel special, she could finally see just how different she had become since attending Beacon.
Though she loved all of the pictures she had of them together, Weiss was glad Yang had chosen to share that one. It was the new her; the Weiss she had come to Beacon to find. So, settling back into her pillows, she hugged Fox Whitley tightly to her chest and liked the picture, a giddy feeling overtaking her as she resolved to spend the next few minutes of her morning reading through the comments, all of which seemed excited for them.
A/N
Hello all. Just mostly some fluff from me today. I kinda just wanted to write something about how small things can affect a person, and though they aren't deal breakers, they are still things that should be addressed, especially when they are things that are easily fixed or a result of misunderstandings. As I always like to show in the relationships I write, communication is key :)
Anyways, that's all from me today. Hope you enjoyed, and I will see you whenever I next upload :)
