Subject: Intern Assignment (Vaingloria)
Vaingloria,
I'm putting you on the audio transcriptions instead of Thierry because I trust you to be more objective. As the pre-Games process occurs, we need to have eyes and ears everywhere we can. I want transcriptions for all twelve districts as you complete them- we need a good idea of how everyone's interacting. I know there's a lot of content here, so just focus on the tribute interactions, especially the initial meetings and any pertinent dinner conversations. Use your best judgment.
I plan to keep you on audio transcription through pre-Games and post-Games content, especially for interviews. If the video transcriptions become too much for Thierry, we'll have you two collaborate or split the work. Keep me updated on your progress.

Jacin Yves

Gamemaker Yves,
Please do not make me collaborate with Thierry. If it comes to it, I'd rather split the work.
Thanks,

[The audio is sourced from a microphone within the dining car of the District One envoy. It begins in the afternoon on June 1st, 99 ADD. I have chosen to denote the speakers by first initial and last name. The participating speakers are Aurelia Charm, Victor of the 82nd Hunger Games; Augustus Braun, Victor of the 67 Hunger Games; Amar Firoza, Tribute; and Katsuo Akiyama, Tribute.]
A. FIROZA: We've met before, right?
K. AKIYAMA: If we have, I don't recall. My apologies.
A. FIROZA: Don't worry about it! I'm Amar. Really nice to meet you.
K. AKIYAMA: Katsuo Akiyama. Pleasure.
[A door opens and shuts. Footsteps, shuffling.]
A. CHARM: Good to see the two of you getting along. How are you both feeling? I know the goodbyes can be intense sometimes.
K. AKIYAMA: Perfectly fine, thank you.
A. FIROZA: Yeah, they can be… I'm excited, though! Do we know who our allies from Two and Four are yet?
A. BRAUN: We'll watch the recap together later. As for right now, Aurelia and I have discussed, and we believe it's best that I Mentor Amar, and Aurelia will Mentor you, Katsuo. How does that sound?
K. AKIYAMA: Excellent.
A. FIROZA: That works for me!
K. AKIYAMA: I would like to have our consultations separately, please.
[Amar Firoza laughs a little.]
A. FIROZA: What, you're already planning against me? Ouch…
K. AKIYAMA: That's not what I said.
A. FIROZA: Relax, I'm teasing.
K. AKIYAMA: I am relaxed. You, on the other hand, are already demonstrating signs of paranoia. Perhaps you are insecure about your own capabilities, and that is why you are so quick to insult me? Especially given how common a request of that kind is.
A. FIROZA: Like I said, teasing, not insulting. Thank you for the concern for my self-esteem! I feel pretty good, though. And if anyone's paranoid here, it's definitely you, Kat.
K. AKIYAMA: Kat?
A. CHARM: Katsuo, calm down.
K. AKIYAMA: I am calm. I am clearly calm. What I fail to understand is why the two of you are allowing one of your tributes to verbally attack the other right in front of you. I would like an apology.
A. BRAUN: Lighten up. She was making a joke.
A. FIROZA: No worries. Sorry, Katsuo. Didn't mean to start us off on the wrong foot.
K. AKIYAMA: You did.
A. FIROZA: I apologize.
K. AKIYAMA: I accept your apology.
A. FIROZA: I really do hope we can be friends.
K. AKIYAMA: Friends?
A. FIROZA: Yes!
K. AKIYAMA: You have some interesting priorities.
A. FIROZA: No, I'm serious! We should be friends! District One never sticks together in the Games, and we always lose because of it. Maybe we could change that.
K. AKIYAMA: Interesting.
A. CHARM: She does have a point. Maybe you don't have to be best friends, but it could be mutually beneficial to have a working relationship, Katsuo.
K. AKIYAMA: And if another tribute offers another, more productive, partnership?
A. FIROZA: Who knows, maybe we'll both find something better! I just- I really didn't mean to make an enemy of you. There's no need for that. I'd rather we get along, you know?
K. AKIYAMA: …I will consider.
A. FIROZA: Awesome!
K. AKIYAMA: Aurelia, can we have our discussion now, please?
A. CHARM: Of course. We'll go in the other car. Right this way, Katsuo.
[There is some shuffling. It sounds as though they're pushing back their chairs. Footsteps, then a door opens and shuts, and the footsteps are gone.]
A. FIROZA: He's an interesting one, isn't he?
A. BRAUN: Are you serious about wanting to be his friend?
A. FIROZA: I think he's funny. He reminds me of Carina.
A. BRAUN: I'm not sure he's interested, though.
A. FIROZA: You know what's interesting, though? We've definitely met before. We've had like three conversations. I'm pretty sure he was pretending not to recognize me on purpose.
A. BRAUN: That probably means he's definitely not interested.
A. FIROZA: I remember him, though. He's the one who cut off that kid's hand, right?
A. BRAUN: Yes. Honestly, Amar, I think there'll be better options for you within the Careers. I don't think Katsuo is someone you should trust. Between you and me, I don't like him at all.
A. FIROZA: Is that why you're my Mentor and not his?
A. BRAUN: That's one of the reasons, yes.
A. FIROZA: I think he'll warm up. I know his type. I just… I don't want to be alone. You know?
A. BRAUN: I suppose.
[Amar Firoza sighs.]
A. BRAUN: There's plenty more to discuss, though. What weapon do you favor?
[End transcription.]
