"Breaking News!"
Sydney was doing a news report at the studio regarding some shocking information which was being broadcasted on TV. She apparently worked for a news company called "The Daily Pothole".
"It's been reported that one of L.E.A.F's Master Class Agent's, also known as a local hero and crime-solver, Rookie, will be stepping down from L.E.A.F."
"Additionally, he will no longer be a teacher and organizer at Flamingo Highschool, which opened 7 months prior to now."
"Due to these changes, Flamingo High has closed down for the rest of the week, and will be opening back next Monday."
"This is truly depressing news - as you may or may not know, Rookie has served plant society countless times."
"He contributed to putting an end to the Pirates that attacked the beaches of Tourist Trap from a few years ago, well as ending a hostage situation that happened during a Halloween Party the L.E.A.F agency held that same year."
"We also know that he assisted with the situation with the strange giant mech that was attacking the city, which ultimately completely exploded! Causing the entirety of Giddy Park to be rebuilt."
"Currently, we have been given no reason for why Rookie had to step down, so it's possible there's something he's hiding from the public."
"His collages of L.E.A.F, such as Snaplight, Sunny, or even his fiancée and collage, Rosemary have not made any comments regarding Rookie's decisions."
"This news has us questioning the future of L.E.A.F."
"For years they've protected humans, our people, and our home, but as time goes and as they age, we wonder if our heroes are beginning to fall."
"My name is Sydney, and this has been The Daily Pothole. More on the story as it develops."
BZZZZT
Rookie turned off the TV. He was sitting on the couch, he looked tired and just sort of depressed by what he just watched. He really doesn't know how he's going to handle the situation he's in. He's not sure if he should just tell the world that he's dying. Even him stepping down as a L.E.A.F agent has sparked fear in the masses, a fear that he can understand. He understands that he and his generation won't be around forever, and worries for who will take the roles that they once did when they're all gone.
"The media is so overreactive, don't you think..?" Said Rosemary, coming in with tea she prepared for him.
"Yeah well, maybe they gotta good reason to be worried this time.." He grabbed a glass of tea and drank a bit, as Rosemary sat down next to him.
"Hey, I mean, the rest of us are still gonna be aroun-"
"But for how long?" Rookie said, interrupting her.
"...Rookie-"
"We had to risk our own lives for other people countless times...it's gonna get to us all someday." Rookie continued.
Rosemary Sighed. "You really need to give it a break...worrying about that stuff won't do you any good. Besides, Vinny...you've been worrying about other people's lives for your entire life, now that you're out of work, can't you just give yourself a break?"
"I..I get where you're coming from." Rookie said.
Rosemary gave a weak smile.
"But it's just...I'm worried about what happens next. What if some new threat comes and everyone can't stop it..?"
He said as he looked at his hands.
Rosemary then just put her hands into his and looked him in the eyes. "..It's not your problem anymore."
"Whatever he does is on us now."
"So just...take it easy, please.."
"I already hate seeing you like this, and I want you to be with me for as long as you can, hun."
She said as she moves her hands up to his face, causing Rookie to blush a bit.
"When heroes fall...there will always be someone who comes after them."
"That's how the earth keeps spinning."
She smiles at him again.
Rookie sighs and scratches his back. "I guess so.."
"Speaking of which, I need to go see Lance, for aaa..Job Interview."
He said as he got up and wrapped his scarf on his neck and grabbed his sword.
"A job interview? Hehehe...I imagine Lance wouldn't be great at that." Rosemary said.
"I know...and I'm accommodating for that."
"How?"
"Don't worry about it."
Rookie closes the door and leaves. She watches him leave as she drinks some tea, curious as to how he's going to accommodate.
"..meh, whatever."
Lance was sharpening his sword in Weirding Woods, he mostly does this outside because it drives his girlfriend absolutely crazy. But he's also outside to meet an old friend for a "job interview".
Rookie shows up in the distance, walking towards Lance.
Lance senses his presence almost immediately and stands up, holding his sword.
"So, you've finally arrived."
"Hahah- I wonder how you notice so fast." Rookie remarked.
"I've trained my body to sense things beyond my eyes using my nervous system." Lance explained.
"Yesh! I don't even know how you'd train for that."
"Well, perhaps you may find out if you pay attention in this fight.."
Lance takes a battle stance.
"This is the last time I can do this Lance...make it count!"
Rookie draws his sword and gets into a battle stance.
"HIYAAAAAAH!"
Rookie jumps and slashes downward at Lance, which he blocks by holding his sword above him.
Lance then sends Rookie back by pushing his sword, Rookie then moves swiftly to the left, and then forward to do a spinning slash at Lance.
Even though he dodges a few slashes, he does get hit by a few.
"GH!"
Lance retaliates by stomping his foot to make him fall, and then hitting rookie with the handle of his sword to knock him away.
"GAH!" He's knocked back and drops his sword.
"Unfortunately Rookie, my instincts are as sharp as my blade..."
"I don't think so, because I mean, you DO sharpen that thing like, ALL the time. Seriously, do you ever get bored of tha-"
"HALT FROM TAKING IT SO LITERALLY AND FIGHT ME!"
Lance charges at Rookie and slashes upwards.
Rookie is able to get up and grab his sword to defend himself, so they're swords clash.
"If you plan on never fighting again, then give it everything you got!" Lance demanded of him.
"W-Well, I ain't gonna be as good as my prime, but I'll show you a thing or two!" Rookie says.
Rookie fakes out lance by moving his sword forward with the intent of slashing him and then he kicks his stem to sweep him of his feet.
"GUH!" Lance falls over and then Rookie steps on him to hold him down, then giving him a little gash on his cheek with his sword.
"*Pant* *Pant* told ya I still got it..heheh.." Rookie remarked.
"Huh...I'm impressed.." Lance acknowledged his ability to do such effective moves, even in his current state.
"Well...pant that's enough evidence for me, Lance.."
"You can replace me as the new teacher."
Rookie said as he got off of Lance, causing Lance to stand up.
"Ah, lovely.."
Lance dusts himself off.
"Well, Vincent, I quite enjoyed this job interview, I find it quite better than the ones that my partner tends to have...I mean, honestly, why would you bring paper to an interview? Can't you just get a messenger to send that?" Lance complained.
"Don't worry about that, Lance.."
"Just please.."
"Make sure that my students grow well."
"I never tell them this but...our people really are going to need them someday."
"They need to be as capable as they can be when their time comes." Rookie explained.
"I understand the weight of this job. You feel that if they're not disciplined properly, that may cause consequences later...very well. I will teach your- or rather my students everything I can." Lance declared.
Rookie smiled.
"Thanks, pal."
He turns around
"You should visit me and Rosemary sometime...she makes some killer tea."
"Oh, sounds lovely."
"Perhaps I'll satisfy that offer someday, but now I shall prepare to begin lessons this week."
"That's the spirit."
Rookie walked off, going back home as Lance watched.
"Perhaps...I can even make them stronger than you or me, Rookie.."
"After all, the newer generation always has more potential than the last."
