Oh no…no, no, no.
Beca stared at the redhead that was giving her a quizzical look. Both naked as the day they were born with Beca not even bothering to cover up.
She remembered this, it was probably the most vivid memory she had.
"How high does your belt go?" Chloe asked, just as unperturbed as the last time this happened.
"My what?" Beca was still unsure what that meant. Plus, her brain was still trying to catch up with the whole time travel incident. She wanted to go back five months, not five years. Something had gone horribly, horribly wrong.
"You were singing Titanium right?" Chloe asked.
Some part of Beca's brain managed to keep up with the conversation, she even managed to remember the exact words of this conversation. "You know David Guetta?" She needed to get out of here, she needed to find Lilly and figure out what to do. What she did not need was to relive one of her most persistent dreams that refused to go away.
Chloe scoffed, "Have I been living under a rock? That song in my jam, my lady jam."
"I know." The words slipped out before Beca could stop them, earning a raised eyebrow from the redhead. "Please leave," she glanced around the surroundings like that should explain everything, "I'm trying to take a shower."
"Well," Chloe placed her hands on her hips. "I'm not leaving until you sing." When Beca just sat there gaping like a fish Chloe made that humming noise she made whenever she was being stubborn.
It happened just like Beca remembered, her singing the song with Chloe harmonizing beautifully a few seconds later. The song ended, the pair staring into each other's eyes like the entire world was reduced to that shower stall. It was perfect, and for a second Beca forgot everything that had happened, until whats his face poked his head around the corner.
There might have been some things Beca had forgotten.
Chloe left after telling her to show up at auditions, leaving Beca to panic all over again about the fact that she was in the wrong time. She finished her shower, using the hot water to try and calm herself down. If she whittled down the problem there was only one solution, she needed to find Lilly.
But she didn't know where to find Lilly before initiation night. That's when she first met the rest of the Bellas, it also happened to be the first place she had been scared shitless by Lilly. She still wasn't sure how to approach the situation, the Lilly from her time had explicitly told her not to tell anyone that she was from the future. But that was before she had inadvertently jettisoned herself five years into the past.
This whole situation seemed familiar. Accidental time travel, where someone had to find the original creator of the time machine in order to get back… "Jesse!" Beca dashed out of the shower and almost made out the door before looking down.
"Right, clothes."
After an incredibly awkward encounter with Kimmy Jin, Beca made her way across campus to the radio station. There was a bit of nostalgia when she got to the building, something that quickly faded when she entered the incredibly dusty record room that made her sneeze just from looking at it.
Over in the corner Jesse was busy stacking cds. Without even bothering to announce herself, Beca grabbed his arm and started dragging him towards the door. "Come with me, I need your help."
"Wait, what?" Jesse barely managed to keep his footing as Beca pulled him out of the building. "Beca? What's going on?"
Beca didn't stop until she was behind the building, shoving Jesse against the brick of the building and holding up a finger to keep him from talking. "Shut up and listen. What movie is it where someone gets trapped in the past and has to use a car or something to make it back?"
Jesse, looking even more confused, caught his breath before giving her a strange look. "Do you mean Back to the Future?"
Beca snapped her fingers, "That's it! How did they get back to the future in that movie?"
"Why?" He asked.
Beca groaned, "Just answer the question."
"Well…Marty convinces Doc Brown to fix the Delorean and they manage to time it just right so that a lighting strike powers the flux capacitor and sends Marty back to nineteen eighty five." After Jesse finished his rant he tried to focus his thoughts. "You haven't seen Back to the Future?"
"No," Beca started to pace back and forth in the alley. That wouldn't work for her, she didn't have her time machine, she wasn't even sure if current Lilly knew how to make one. She turned back to Jesse who was looking at her like she was crazy. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Because you're kinda freaking me out." He gave her another weary glance. "I've known you for like a week and most of that time has been spent with you glaring at me."
Right, she had been a bit of a bitch freshman year…she blamed her dad. "Look. I'm sorry it's just," she considered her options. She could either try to start on the problem now or wait a week until aca-initiation. Of all the people she could trust right now Jesse was near the top of the list so Beca made a decision. "I need your help. I'm from the future and I need to go back."
Jesse snickered, "Yeah okay. And why should I–"
"You slept with a beanie baby until you were thirteen, your first crush was Kim Possible and your middle name is Meredith after your grandmother." It's amazing what you learn when you date someone for three years.
Jesse's face went pale, "How did you–"
"Where I'm from we dated for a while." She saw his expression turn hopeful so she had to act quickly. "Don't do that. It was fine in college but it's not going to last. Besides, you meet a really sweet girl when you move to L.A."
"Well what's her name?"
"I don't remember but she has a cat." Beca grabbed him by the shoulders and shook him a bit. "Look, will you help me out or not?"
He seemed to consider the question before slowly nodding his head. "Are you kidding me? This sounds awesome!" That made her smile, same old Jesse. "So what exactly is going on? How did you get stranded here?"
"Do you know who Chloe Beale is?" Beca asked.
"Uh sure, cute redhead that co-captains the Bellas?"
Beca tried not to twitch at Jesse calling Chloe cute. It might be an objective truth but that was beside the point. "Yeah that's her. Look, here's what's going on." She explained everything that had happened, even her trip into the space time continuum.
"Wow," Jesse looked a little overwhelmed with all the information. "So what do we need to do?"
"I need to find a girl called Lilly Onakuramara, she's the one that built the machine that brought me here." Beca let out an annoyed sigh. "The only problem is that I have no idea where to find her before acapella auditions."
"Oh yeah, I was planning to go to that." Jesse looked up like he was thinking of something. "So, we have to find a missing scientist and save a princess from a terrible fate." He looked at her and smiled. "This is going to be fun." He rushed out of the alley leaving Beca very confused.
"You are such a nerd."
