MUTTATIONS REPORT 06/09/99

Hawk muttations worked excellently today. Two units were deployed at 1:34 PM, following a 24+ hour period of no tribute elimination, and both units performed to full potential. I have been experimenting with various birds of prey for several years now, honing their attack instincts, but it's been difficult to make sure they don't feed on their prey as well. Several Avox trials went awry that way. They needed to learn to hunt for the sport of it, as opposed to the reward of food.

Unit 1 and Unit 2 were deployed in Quadrant III, which had the highest concentration of tributes. There, they quickly found a tribute (Fallon Caligo, D5). Luckily, Caligo saw them coming and attempted to flee, allowing us a better opportunity to observe a proper hunt. Units 1 and 2 pursued for 00:03:10, at which point Unit 1 became temporarily disoriented. Unit 2 pursued and began landing several attacks with its talons, allowing an opportunity for Unit 1 to make up for lost time. Both units attack Caligo - I believe they were coordinating strikes, which was absolutely thrilling to see - and Caligo attempts to defend herself, but the hawks slash through her forearms. By this point, Caligo loses control of her jetpack and begins to spiral downwards. As the situation becomes more chaotic, Unit 2 slashes at her neck, and her eyes roll back. Unit 1 compounds on the damaged area, as it was trained, and Caligo falls from the sky. Her tracker reports her eliminated at this time.

At this point, electroshocks were utilized to restrain the hawks and bring them back to their roost, where they were fed according to performance. If there is a lapse in excitement at any point moving forward, I am confident the hawk muttations will solve the problem. I am very pleased with today's performance.
