He races through the dark corridors. Frantically opening locked doors to no avail. He could feel those red eyes burning into his neck.
"Gregory!" Vanny giggles from the other end of the hall, her skipping in the same pace would seem like forever to catch up to the frantic boy. "No running in the halls, Gregory. You can get hurt. We can't have fun when you're hurt."
Flashes of being seconds away from death, his friends nearly destroyed from protecting him, the fires engulfing around, he gripped a doorknob tightly and bang against it, successfully opening and rushing in.
Only to be literally slapped by a brick wall. "No, no!" He hits the wall.
Vanny stood in the doorway, giggling. "You're MINE!" She darts at him, the knife aiming high. Gregory shrinks in fear, knowing the inevitable outcome that awaits him.
A silhouette darts from the shadows, hitting Vanny with a punch to the face. The latter drops the bloody knife in pain. Her mask removed, revealing a pissed off Colleen hissing at the unknown.
The silhouette pounced onto Colleen, hitting the woman with rage as each word spews from its mouth.
"Don't..." A punch to the mouth.
"You..." A couple of hits to the neck.
"Touch..." Another strike to the woman's chest. And another. And another.
"HIM!" A final scream enhancing the seemingly fatal blow, Colleen lays still. He gaps at the scene in horror of what took place.
He blinks and the room is bright, with an entrance on the other side of the room. A chance to leave.
Not until he thanks his rescuer.
Then suddenly, he couldn't really see, but felt someone scooping him into their arms and walking towards the exit. It was his rescuer, but their face remains unseen.
A pair of arms extend from the other side and the silhouette gracefully deposits the child into the receiver's arms. The door slowly closes, and a hint of light from his side shines through the dark alcove. He was able to make out a tiny piece of who his savior was like, at the cost of his heart sinking into pieces.
"Mom?"
