Kelsey came home from the park earlier then expected. She had slept till nearly six a.m., which was late for her. She'd been shocked when she woke up. It wasn't downpouring like the weather bug stated last night before bed. Still, she came home unable to focus. Again, She was startled that the portal potion had somehow worked without her physically using it because Avatar Kyoshi stood tall in her living room! But she wasn't alone either. She'd with her adopted six-year-old daughter Obsidiana.
Kelsey wasn't surprised that Obsidiana was there. After all, she was Kyoshi's daughter in all but blood. So, of course, the mother of a young child isn't going to leave her alone. Kelsey greeted them politely and gave them some carbonated water since she didn't drink tea. She calmly escorted Obsidiana to her bedroom and logged onto a website that allowed a person to watch cartoons and anime for free. Kelsey went to the movie list and found The Last Unicorn. She blew up the screen and gave Obsidiana one of her stuffed animals.
After ensuring the little girl would be alright, she returned to Kyoshi in the living room. "I don't have guests over since no one ever comes over. So these little visits from your world are a delightful treat."
"I'm sure they are, young Storyteller. I'm assuming you know who sent me to help you out?"
"Well, who else but the Mother of Humanity would send someone to help me? However, I wonder why she sent you. I'm not a parent or a warrior. So I'm unsure why you're chosen."
"Alanna informed me you need help with your self-esteem and sense of self-worth. So I presume that's why she sent me."
"Well, I suppose you could relate to having lousy parents. I know yours abandoned you when you were a child. Mine? My whole family is quite abusive; most disowned me long ago. I wouldn't say I like that my mother can't understand why I don't want a relationship with my twin sister. Again, you can't expect someone to want a relationship with someone who has abused them for years. Especially when they never took accountability for it or sincerely apologized."
"You're correct. I know what its like to have rotten parents. I was also badly mistreated by the village until Kelsang took me in. He was a great father figure. Growing up, he was the only one I felt truly loved me unconditionally."
"The only one who made me feel like that was my grandma, who has since passed. It's not easy for me to be neglected while being abused. Plus, having the entire family deny it."
"I've seen what neglect and a lack of positive relationships can do to one's psyche. It's still not easy for me to forget the past, and I don't believe I'll ever truly be able to forgive my parents for what they did to me."
"I hate that people insist you always have to forgive. They can't understand that some things are unforgivable. For me, to forgive my family for a lifetime of abuse only gives them power, and they get off scot-free of their actions. It means I'm forced to bend to their will, and I'll still suffer because they've got a free pass to continue their abusive behavior since they are 'forgiven." I believe you need to EARN someone's forgiveness.
Also, it would be best if you didn't FORCE someone to forgive. That has to be on their terms and their choice. You shouldn't order them to forgive and ignore why they haven't forgiven others."
"It wasn't till I met Yun and Rangi that I felt I had friends. However, I assume you're aware of what happened to Yun?"
"He went insane when he found out he wasn't the Avatar. Then went on a killing spree till you're forced to put him out of his misery."
"I still haven't forgiven myself for that either. So yes, I do know what its like to feel unloved and unwilling to forgive those who haven't earned it in my eyes."
Kelsey sighed. "I want people to show me respect, Kyoshi. I want people to treat me with kindness and be there when I need a shoulder to cry on. I want them actually to talk to me.
I want them to make time for me. Return my messages. Overall, I want a real friend and someone to be a friend. I'm tired of doing all the work in every relationship and no one doing half of the work.
I've tried multiple times to talk to my online friends about issues in the relationship. Only to be shut down every time. You can't fix a relationship without being willing to listen and actively work on the problem."
"Yes, relationships of any kind are a two-way street. Rangi and I still have issues with our relationship or sometimes disagree on how to raise our daughter. However, we know nothing will be accomplished if we don't effectively communicate."
"I wish someone would do that with me. Just listen and work towards repairing our friendship before its lost forever."
Kyoshi glanced out the glass balcony door. I'm afraid I can't stay much longer. Alanna's powers only allowed my daughter and me an hour to visit. I'll come back sometime and help you out more.
"Thanks for coming, Kyoshi. The only thing I've long to tell you is this. I wish you would stop the war in Ukraine. Of all the Avatars, I know you'd be the best suited to end this senseless conflict."
"If I could, I would certainly. Sadly, I can't interfere directly with affairs in your world, Storyteller."
"I understand, Kyoshi. I hope you and Obsidiana have a nice day. Tell her she may keep the teddy bear. I still have quite a collection, and one bear missing isn't going to hurt anyone."
"Thank you, Storyteller, you are most kind." They returned to the bedroom, where Obsidiana remained transfixed on the computer screen. Kyoshi informed her they'd have to finish the movie another day. A portal opened, and mother and daughter returned to their world.
