Tech has autism. Hunter doesn't, but he's got sensory issues. They both have trouble eating the sandwiches they got from a deli. Logical solution: pick them apart and take what you like. Echo is the confused new guy. You shouldn't need a disclaimer because it's obvious I am not Dave Filoni. Anyone who has that idea is wrong.
Tech was almost ready to scream. Of course his sausage, cheddar, mayo, and lettuce sandwich on a slider roll without seeds had been messed up. The sausage had fennel that would make it annoying to chew and poke at his tongue, which wasn't the deli's fault, but still annoyed him. At least it was sliced thin. He may be able to remove the seeds. But of course there was too much mayo and it was between the cheese and the bread, soaking into it and making it too squishy against the roof of his mouth. And of course they used the slider roll that had seeds on it. He put it down on the table and took off the top bun. It was worse than he thought: Some idiot put pickles on it. The pickle juice had no doubt seeped into the bun along with the extra mayo.
He finally sat down next to Hunter, who also had his order messed up. Tech knew that Hunter hated seeded buns as much as him.
"You got the seeds too, huh?" asked Hunter, "I specifically asked for a bun without any, but they were out of everything else!"
Tech nodded and said "There's also the fact that their only sausage has fennel. May I borrow your knife?"
Hunter handed it over and said "Sure. Why?"
Tech responded "The bun became soggy and has pickle juice in it, so I have to get rid of the soggy parts," and cut the soggy parts of the bun off. "Hey, Wrecker," Tech added, "You seem to be finished with your sandwich. May we use your plate?"
"They got the order wrong, then?" said Wrecker, who knew the drill by then, sliding his to Tech, who put it between himself and Hunter.
Tech placed the soggy part of the bun on the plate and responded "Yes, and I don't want the pickle juice to get on my sandwich." He finished his sentence by placing the pickles and the residue he had carefully scraped off the lettuce onto the plate, glad that the pickle juice was at least somewhere it wouldn't mix with the mayonaise.
Hunter took the pickles off Wrecker's plate and put them next to the sausage from his sandwich, so he could use them on his sandwich instead. "If you get the seeds off the buns, I'll get the seeds out of the sausage," he said.
Tech placed his sausage slices on Hunter's plate while taking Hunter's bun and beginning to pick off the seeds, making sure not to miss any. He seriously wished he brought his tweezers. He'd have to make do with one of Crosshair's numerous toothpicks and his, thankfully nimble, fingers.
Within a few minutes, he and Hunter managed to remove all of the seeds from the sandwiches and place them on Wrecker's plate. Echo was staring at them in confusion by then, but Tech didn't bother to explain yet. He still had to scrape off the excess mayo from his sandwich. Once he finished, Hunter placed his sausage back on his plate and Tech gave Hunter his now seedless bun.
Once they finished Tech reassembled his sandwich, making sure that the cheese's mayonnaise side was facing the lettuce so that it didn't get anywhere it wasn't supposed to. He put his sandwich back together only to notice that the buns were a little big still. 'Well,' he thought, 'That's easy enough to fix.' He rotated the bun a little before picking off the excess bread on the sides and began to happily eat his sandwich.
Echo had never been more confused in his life. Okay, well, maybe when he walked in on Anakin making a life sized pinata of a gundark. That was weird. Or when Ahsoka had suggested pranking a Separatist battleship instead of attacking it and the strategy somehow worked. Or perhaps when he and Fives found Obi Wan crying about a cheesy romance he was watching. Okay, he'd never been so confused about something unrelated to the disaster lineage. Still, it was confusing to see two members of his team meticulously removing seeds from their respective sandwiches.
Once they finally seemed to get their sandwiches to their liking, Tech began to pick off the bread as he ate whenever it hung over the edges of the toppings. Echo never had an issue with too much bread before. He wondered why the bread and seeds bothered them so much, but noticed that he'd been staring too long. He knew it might offend them to ask, but after a few minutes, his curiosity got the better of him.
"Why do they take the seeds out first?" Echo asked nobody in particular, "They're barely noticeable."
Crosshair answered "Not to them. They have sensitive mouths. They're usually like this when their food has something they don't like."
Wrecker added "You should have seen when we got the wrong jam and it had seeds in it. That was funny."
Tech didn't look up from his sandwich as he replied "No it wasn't. I couldn't have my favorite breakfast 4 times in a row."
Echo asked "So, I get Hunter has enhanced senses, but why does Tech pick through his food?"
Tech finished his sandwich and began to tap a consistent rhythm on the table that reminded Echo of the one song that Tech always seemed to listen to. Without looking up from the table, he answered "I think it's a part of my mutation. I'm very smart, as you've seen, and I also displayed several traits that are known to be symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. I never got a diagnosis because Jango Fett was neurotypical and so it's logical that his clones would be too and human neurodiversity is different from kaminoan neurodiversity. However, since I am already different from most clones, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to consider this idea. At least, that's my best theory as of yet."
Echo considered Tech's theory. He didn't know much about ASD, but it seemed reasonable enough to accept. After all, Tech probably knew more about it than Echo did.
A/N. I have a hard time writing about autism from a reg's POV. I'm not too sure if it was realistic. I am, however, very sure on my opinions for a sandwich: slider roll (no seeds) (cut to the perfect size), 1 slice of turkey, 4 slices of ham, 2 slices of American cheese, a teeny bit of mayo (preferably not touching the bun, but I'm more flexible about it than Tech and Hunter are written to be), and a few chips on the top for crunch. This is what I'd do if I got a sandwich with seeds and I honestly based this on me a bit.
