The medical exam also didn't go quite as well as one might hope. Abigail was used to being checked by Uncle Jesse or Ms. Sam as she called them, not strangers. She broke Janet's stethoscope when Janet tried to listen to her heart. Then she realized she'd broken someone else's toy. She was immediately sorry and began to cry. It took a little while for Xander to get her to calm down. They were only able to finish the exam because he held her though it. Janet could only shake her head in amazement. She'd been warned after all.
Everyone else's exam went just fine and once they were declared Gou'ld free, were taken to the conference room to talk to General Hammond and SG1.
"I understand there were some difficulties with the exam." General Hammond said.
"Yah, I apologize for that sir. Abigail is used to being examined by Jesse or the Tribe's Medicine Woman, Samantha Gray. Having a stranger try to exam her, upset her. We can replace the stethoscope if you want." Xander answered.
"No, that's alright. I was just wondering why you brought her with, but I guess now I know." Hammond said.
"Not entirely, sir. Yes, we are the best people to help her manage her abilities. But there's another reason for bringing her with." Cordelia reached for Xander's hand as he began to explain.
"How much do you know about the rogue project from two years ago? The one that involved two of our people being kidnapped, nearly experimented on and tortured?"
"I've been told it was an attempt to control and militarize some of the creatures that come through these rifts. And that it violated a Treaty that's been in place since WW II, which made it treason."
"Correct, sir. More than a hundred people were ultimately arrested, including military personnel who violated Posse Comitatus, civilians and members of three different intelligence organizations. But not everyone seems to have been found. Somehow, survivors of that Charlie Foxtrot have found out that Abigail is the first known case of a Protector being born. There's been two kidnapping attempts on her. The most recent only two weeks ago. The President has a team from the FBI investigating. If they find these idiots first they'll go to jail. If any member of our family catches them, they'll never find the remains."
"I guess somehow they think maybe they can figure out how to make more Protectors without having to go through the extremely dangerous procedure the Tribe's use to make Protectors. But they don't know, or we think they don't know, is Abigail is even more unique than being born a Protector. Protectors have long had their own children. The procedure that makes a Protector predates the Gou'ld, after all. There's just never been one born a Protector. When we first learned Abigail had these abilities, Samantha Gray, our Medicine Woman, reached out to other Tribes around the world that use this procedure themselves. She was looking for anything she could find that could explain it. A myth, a story, anything. She found nothing. The only thing that might explain it, is that Abigail is the result of surrogacy. Without Faith's contribution, Abigail wouldn't be Abigail. She's our little miracle child."
"They want to experiment on her?" General Hammond exclaimed. "On a child?"
"Whatever their end goal is, they think it's worth it." Cordelia told them.
"We have family back home, but none of them are augmented. Leaving her with them while these people are out there, especially since they're patrolling for us while we're here, isn't feasible. The President's certain they'll have them contained soon. In fact, I'm pretty sure the timing of this visit, is to give us added protection. He said he'd been considering having this meet and greet for awhile, but our circumstances I guess, give him a way to look out for us while they track these people down. There are other Protector Packs after all, that could have been called in for this."
"I never expected to be a mom anyway. I'm fine being godmother and favorite auntie." Faith said.
"Hey." Said Willow, Heidi and Rhonda.
And Abigail settled the argument by declaring who was her favorite, aside from her daddy, I mean.
"Big boom!" The girl yelled.
"Big boom? I guess Grandpa Rory is your favorite. At least this week. A few days ago a storm knocked down some trees in his backyard. While Abigail was over visiting he blew out the stumps. She thinks it was great fun."
"Well I happen to like blowing things up myself." Colonel O'Neill told her. "It is fun."
"Indeed, O'Neill, given how many things you cause to explode, it does seem to be something you enjoy a great deal." Teal'C said.
"Grandpa Rory taught daddy how to make things blow up too. I agree, it's alot fun."
"Sometimes I swear you're still five years old." Cordelia told Xander fondly.
"Grandpa Rory, huh? I'm a Grandpa myself. We could compare notes, maybe." General Hammond said
"Yes, sir. Rory is actually my uncle. When my parents died in a car crash when I was ten he resigned his commission and adopted me. My dad was his brother. Rory was a Marine and a sniper. His last posting was at the Command we're affiliated with. He served there for ten years and left a Major. He oversaw our training. He, along with two others, are patrolling while we're here. They know what they're doing."
A/N Remember, Xander and his group can't tell the Stargate people about Magic or that Abigail is the result of magical surrogacy. And any sane doctor is going to check for precedent.
