"Okay, so we've all had a chance to spend some time with these people. What are your impressions?" Xander asked.
"That if Tara and I ever decide to have a child, I want Dr. Jackson to father it."
"Okay. Not the response I was looking for."
"It's just, he's really smart. It didn't take him long to figure out that what I was looking for was information on demons. Of course, he thinks it's just how our ancestors interpreted what they saw, but still, it was a brilliant intuitive leap."
"Plus, he's hot." From Faith.
"That too."
"Okay, moving on. Did you find any useful information?"
"Actually yes and no. Yes, most cultures out there have stories that could indicate demons or Hellmouths. No, because there was nothing concrete. We need to evaluate on site to know for sure."
"Which means traveling through the Stargate and exploring."
"Yes."
"Well, Teal'C and Colonel O'Neill are the only people on base who can give us a real work out. They're both highly trained and Teal'C is really strong. Not as strong as us, but still strong." Kyle said. "He said he wants to teach us his people's martial art. I'm up for it."
Various agreements from the Pack and Faith greeted this assessment.
"Well I've filled Dr. Fraser in on the specifics of your augmentations, to use their term. I feel comfortable that she could treat most injuries you might get if I'm not there to do it." Jesse told them.
"That's good to know. Any concerns?"
"No, they seem like good people. I haven't found deception in any of them. Aside from the fact that the Colonel and Major Carter like each other, but aren't doing anything about it." Heidi said.
"There are regulations about working on the same team as someone you're involved with in the military. They could probably get around them if they wanted to, but it would effect their jobs and their superiors would have issues with it." Xander told her.
"That's a bummer." Rhonda said. "I'd hate it if I couldn't work with Kyle."
This statement was also greeted with agreement from everyone else.
"Alright then, we have an early morning to prepare for the trip through the Stargate. Everyone get some rest, we'll see you in the morning."
"I'm kinda jealous. I'd like to go too." Cordelia said, wistfully.
"Maybe on a future trip, my Queen." Xander smiled at her. "Come on, let's get Tiny Princess into bed."
"Not sleepy."
"Really? Because daddy's sleepy. Maybe you can tell daddy a story so daddy can fall asleep."
"Okay, daddy."
Of course, Abigail was asleep before she managed to finish her story.
The next day dawned bright and early. Or as bright as windowless rooms in an underground base can dawn. The Pack, along with Faith, Jesse and Willow were In the infirmary right on time for their pre trip check up, Cordelia and Abigail were there to lend support. After which they all headed to the conference room for their pre trip briefing.
"So we're prepared to send you through to an uninhabited planet approximate 80 light years from Earth. It has some ruins on it that are from the race we call the Ancients. They were the builders of the Stargates. The mission is to do an onsight evaluation and determine if a long term study is feasible. Of course, that is dependant on if you can handle gate travel. If you have no issues then the trip is scheduled for two days. If there are problems, you will of course, return immediately. Any questions?" General Hammond asked.
"No, but I have one point to make." Xander answered. "My Pack is used to following my commands. In my absence, they follow Cordelia's. Baring that, we all follow commands from our Chief or my uncle. We understand chain of command and the need for a clear chain. As such, for the duration of this trip, we will follow your orders Colonel O'Neill, unless we encounter the types of situations we're used to dealing with. In which case, I would hope you'd trust us to know what we're doing."
"You mean fighting demons." Colonel O'Neill said.
"Willow mentioned Dr. Jackson had made that determination. You understand, we know what we're fighting?"
"Yes. And I will accept that you're the expert in those situations. I appreciate your willingness to follow our chain of command. It will simplify things in the field."
"Yes, it will."
"Excellent, Alpha Harris, thank you for making that clear. If there's nothing else, then gear up and head out." General Hammond ordered.
Once in the armory, the Pack stripped off their shirts and put on their light armor. Something that surprised Colonel O'Neill as he'd expected them to use the base provided vests. When he asked why he was told it was because it was formed to fit each of them individually. A gift from the Tribe.
"A most excellent gift." Teal'C commented.
"Yes, and it's saved our lives several times." Xander answered as he strapped on his sword and attached the P90 as well.
"You mentioned before that each of you have different weapons you use based on what works for each you. What weapons do you each use?" O'Neill asked.
"Tor uses claws, Heidi sais, Rhonda metal tonfa and Kyle a battle ax." As each brought out their weapons and secured them. "Cordelia uses a double bladed retractable staff and Faith uses two seax blades. Willow and Jesse don't usually carry weapons."
"Claws, really?"
"I like to fight up close and personal." Tor told him.
Everyone headed for the gate room where Cordelia and Abigail were waiting to say good bye. The Pack and Jesse and Willow all got an Abigail good bye kiss and Xander got a Cordelia one. They were all awed when the vortex opened up and splashed out. And then the Pack stepped through into a new adventure.
