Jesse and Willow were throwing up in the nearby bushes. SG1 looked bored, same old, same old. Xander looked awed. "That ranks right up there with sex for the first time. And the first mind blowing orgasm."
"I saw colors I can't even name." Kyle said, equally as awed.
Heidi was bouncing on her toes. "Can we do it again? Huh? Huh? Can we do it again?"
"I think I know what a religious experience feels like now." Tor said.
"That's like the world's coolest roller coaster." Rhonda said.
"Holy shit, it's like I could hear the heartbeat of the Universe." Came Faith's comment.
"I take it you're not having any problems?" Colonel O'Neill asked, curious at their reaction.
"Give us a minute, Colonel." Xander requested, as he closed his eyes and reached for that part of him that was the Bonded soul. The rest of the Pack did the same. After a moment they opened their eyes and Xander said, "we're just fine, Colonel." Then he noticed Jesse and Willow weren't quite so fine.
"Hey, you guys, okay?" He asked, concerned.
"I shouldn't have eaten any breakfast." Willow said queasily. "What the Hell was that?"
"An intense overload of our senses." Jesse told her. "We'll get used it. They did." He pointed at SG1. "I take it you guys aren't having any problems?"
"Nope, we're doing just fine." Xander assured him. "You got any antinausea stuff in your kit? You both could probably use some."
"Yah, good idea." Jesse dug it out of his kit and handed a tablet to Willow, who pulled out a bottle of water and washed it down.
"Take your time, the first time though can be a little rough. We'll go when you're ready. We just need to check in with General Hammond, before we go anywhere anyway. Daniel dial Earth."
"Colonel O'Neill, how is it going?" They could heard hear Hammond over the radio.
"Just fine, sir. The Pack didn't have a single problem. Willow and Jesse are little nauseous, but recovering. We'll be moving on in a bit."
"Xander, are you sure you're okay?"
"Reminded me of the Bonding Ceremony, honey. The afterward."
"Oh. Don't have too much fun without me."
"I won't, my Queen, I promise."
"Hi daddy!"
"Hey, Tiny Princess, look out for mommy, okay? I'll talk to you later."
"General, we'll check-in in 24 hours, unless there are problems."
"Acknowledged, have a good trip."
"You guys feel up to moving on? It'll take about an hour to get to the site."
"I'm good, Colonel." Jesse assured him.
"Me, too." Willow said.
Over the next hour Willow and Daniel kept up a prattle of conversation on myths and folklore. The Pack and Colonel O'Neill discussed everything from the best way to fish, (blowing them out with dynamite or using it as excuse to take a nap) to Clem.
"Back when you first got here, you told Abigail that Teal'C was like Clem, only not funny looking. Who's Clem."
"Clem's someone who came through the dimensional rift in Sunnydale. One of the few that doesn't think people make tasty treats. When we found him, he was in the tunnels under Sunnydale, afraid to come out. He had managed to learn some English. About the worst you can say about Clem, is that liverwurst is the equivalent of chocolate for him. He resembles a human shar pei. Abigail thinks he's adorable. He even has floppy ears. He's proof that not everything that comes out of that thing is a nasty wanting to put the hurt on us humans. If he could go home, he would, but it seems one way."
They arrived at the remains of what was once a small outpost of the Ancients. Willow once again was vibrating with excitement, Daniel wasn't too far behind her. The Pack was kind of bored, until Xander touched a panel by a door and everything lit up like a Christmas tree. And all Hell broke loose.
Panels and displays were lighting up all over the place. The Pack was staring, confused, trying to understand what was happening.
"You've got the gene!" Daniel exclaimed.
"The gene? The Ancient gene, the briefing the President gave us, mentioned?"
"Yes, I wonder if the rest of you do too." Daniel said.
One by one each of the Pack placed their hands on a panel. And one by one they lit up. Unfortunately, for Willow and Jesse, as well as Faith, nothing happened when they touched a panel. Willow, especially, was disappointed.
When the call came in only a few hours after SG1 and the Pack had left General Hammond sighed and wondered if sending the Pack out with his trouble magnet team had been a good idea.
"General Hammond, we got us a bit of a situation here." Came O'Neill's voice over radio.
"Is everything alright, Colonel?" Hammond asked, concerned.
"Well that depends, sir. On whether or not you consider the fact that all five of the Pack members have the Ancient gene, a problem."
In the end Hammond ordered the Pack and Colonel O'Neill back to base. Per regulations, the Pack would now need to be tested, a fact that did not go over well with any of them. They had a legitimate concern that their samples and results could end up in the wrong hands after all. After discussing it with the President, who understood their concerns, especially in light of the kidnapping threat against Abigail, managed to convince them to allow the testing. They needed all the people they could find with the Ancient gene, after all, so they could understand the technology and hopefully reverse engineer it. Xander finally agreed as long as Abigail was not included in the testing. Which the President readily agreed to. Dr. Fraser's test subsequently confirmed, all 6 Pack members, including Cordelia, had the Ancient gene.
