Summer Grounds Prompt 1b: Water
"Summer. Summer.Summer!" A youthful young man exclaimed out loud. "Here marks the beginning of our epic summer vacation!"
A crowd of people looked over at the boy and immediately began mumbling and staring at him.
"Bolin!" His brother, Mako, whispered in a hushed yell. "Shut it! You're drawing attention!"
Bolin just scoffed before looking at his brother. "Shut up? How can I shut up! Water parks are a must-go-to place during the summer! Not to mention this is our first time going to Avatar Waterfalls! Isn't that right Asami!" He immediately looked at his best friend with sparkling eyes.
Asami had an unamused look plastered on her face. "Yeah. It's one of the best places to get sunburned and swim in germs and bacteria."
Grabbing his chest as if he got shot, Bolin gasped. "And that's what showers and sunscreen are for babe. Come on! Don't be such a party downer you two, let loose, have fun!" He then pulled his brother and best friend into a headlock.
Mako immediately pushed him away, freeing Asami and him before they shot each other a glance. He then spoke up in a monotone voice as if Bolin wasn't even there. "When did Opal say she was gonna come?"
"Mmh… she said she just arrived." Asami pulled out her phone to confirm the message. "She's in the bathroom right now so maybe in five minutes?"
Feeling like he was being ignored, Bolin looked at them like a lost dog. "Uh… guys?"
"I see, you wanna find a place to chill until she gets here then? I don't wanna hop in without her." Mako then pointed his thumb in the direction of the water slides.
"Yeah sure, sounds great. I don't want to get separated." Asami readjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder before heading in that direction.
"Hello?" Bolin tried calling out again as he was left behind in the dust.
Mako shifted the bag on his shoulder as well before asking. "We should apply some sunscreen too, didn't you get pretty burned last year?"
Asami immediately whined. "Urgh, don't remind me. I was peeling for weeks. I swear, it's impossible for me to tan, I just burn."
Laughing at that, Mako took off his baseball cap before putting it on Asami's head. "You should've worn a sun hat."
She rolled her eyes at that. "I forgot."
"Guys! Don't leave me behind!" Bolin finally chased after them. Once he caught up, he threw his arm over Mako's shoulder. "You're both terrible, you know that?"
Both Asami and Mako responded at the same time. "Thanks."
Bolin was quick to groan out loud and that made the two of them laugh. Thankfully, they were quick to find a table with a vast umbrella. As they settled down and got ready, Opal finally joined up with them with a huge grin and wave.
"Guys! I hope you didn't miss me too much while I was slaving away at work!"
"Opal!" Bolin lit up like fireworks in the summer night sky. "You're finally here honey bunch!"
"Honey bear!"
Mako made a face at their nicknames and the two love birds were both quick to hug before pecking each other obnoxiously on the lips and face. Asami made a fake vomit noise before grinning when they shot her a look.
"Stop being so gross already!" Asami teased, "You'll infect us with your giddy energy!"
"Not my fault you two are the only single ones here." Opal said before sticking her tongue out at her, "If you hate it so much, just date again!"
That made both Asami and Mako make disgusted faces.
"Been there, done that, no thanks."
"We're better off as friends."
Opal then eyed them suspiciously before noting Mako's hat on Asami's head. "Sure, if you say so."
"Oh shut it, Opal, help me sunscreen my back if you're just gonna joke around." Asami then aggressively held out the sunblock.
"Ah yes, the joy!" Opal practically sang, "Get to feel you up realllll good now." Asami was about to take back the sunscreen but Opal snatched it out of her hand before she could. "Let's hope you don't turn into a lobster this time around."
"Don't worry, I won't. My ass will be sitting out for the most of it." Asami claimed before pulling out a book from her tote bag, "Got my entertainment here."
"Whaatttt, you're not jumping in Asami? That's so boring thoughhhh." Bolin whined as he fought with his brother for the sunscreen. He managed to pull a quick one and got to use it first.
Asami just sighed. "I told you I was in the middle of something but you guys were the ones who dragged me out."
Bolin snorted at her. "Yeah in the middle of growing a mushroom farm as you read."
Raising a challenging eyebrow, Asami shot him a look. "Guess you won't be getting a piece of my new batch."
He gasped at that. "What?! Noooooo! Please give me your shroomssss! They're the best!"
Shaking her head at that, Asami thanked Opal before applying sunscreen to the rest of her body. By the time they were all protected from UV rays, Asami was firmly seated at their table with no intention of moving.
"Alright, have fun you guys. Don't get too excited, we don't want to be kicked out like last time." Asami dismissed them with a wave.
"Not my fault they don't allow dino floaties in the wave pool."
"You mean boat-sized ones." Mako corrected.
"But it's still a floatie!"
Opal snorted at that. "One that knocks people out."
"Hey, where's the fun in floaties if I can't mow people down with them!"
Asami laughed before waving them off. "Yeah yeah, I'll be watching over our stuff so go have fun already."
Bolin gave her a bright grin, "Last one in is a rotten turtle duck!" He sprinted right after yelling that.
"Hey! No fair! That's cheating!" Opal quickly ran after her boyfriend.
Mako was the last to leave, he rubbed his neck in a nervous tick before glancing at Asami awkwardly. "Hey… you sure you're good by yourself?"
Asami spared him a glance before giving a courteous smile. "Yeah, I'm good. Go ahead and have fun." She then raised her book up, "This is all the company I need."
"..." Scratching his head, Mako sighed before dropping his hand. "Alright, let us know if you need something alright?"
She waved him off again, "Got it."
"Mako! Hurry up! We're gonna leave you in the dust!" Bolin shouted from the top of the small water slide.
They both looked up to where he was. "Damn, how'd he get there so fast?"
"No idea…"
When Asami was finally left alone, she enjoyed the relative silence of her own company. She recently got hooked on this new sapphic book series written by Ashley Herring Blake. She stumbled upon Delilah Green Doesn't Care by chance at a second-hand bookstore and shortly after learned after binge-reading it in a day that there was a second book. She went straight down to the nearest bookstore to snag the sequel and from there, she barely cracked the book open before getting dragged out of her home by her so-called friends to go to a water park.
Asami's lips curled upward with a snort. She swore this book had so many rom-com cliches but was written so well that it made her giddy knowing she was right. A couple of pages later, someone walked into her line of sight. She half wondered if it was one of the boys and was about to rip them a new one for disturbing her again, however, when she looked up, it was some random dude she had never seen before. Ah. She hoped this wasn't what she thought it was.
"Hey there, you alone?"
Tch, of course.
She didn't bother replying and went back to her book.
"Ah, I get it, you're friends must have ditched you on lookout duty."
Talk about old.
She never understood why men never took the hint that she wasn't interested.
"Come on, just ditch that stupid old book. I promise we'll have a better time together."
Anddddd there it was. The audacity men had, thinking they could give her a good time.
She let out a deep sigh before marking her place in the book and shutting it. How should she reject him? If she was lucky, he'd give up after three tries. She set the book down gently on the table before finally looking up to face him with an annoyed look. However, just right when she opened her mouth, an unfamiliar voice spoke up.
"Hey baby, I hope I'm not boring you too much."
A feminine voice at that.
Asami blinked before turning and facing the source. She was immediately met with the hottest lifeguard she had ever seen in her life. She had beautifully tanned skin that was hardly covered by that sports bra and parker. She even had toned muscles that bludged from her shorts that begged to be kissed and the clearest blue eyes she has ever seen.
The lifeguard was shortly by her side and she leaned against the table before leaning in close to her ear. "Play along with me?" She then leaned her head forward, blocking the view of the guy, before bringing her lips close to her lips and making an audible kiss noise. She had faked a kiss. "I promise I'll be off in a few minutes and then we can grab the guys and go."
Completely astonished, Asami blinked before remembering to react. She gave her a sweet and flirtatious smile before grabbing her forearm. "You owe me dinner for being late then."
"Ohhhhh I can give you more than just that baby." The lifeguard then winked at her with this sexy grin.
Asami blinked. Oh. Oh… She blushed heavily at the innuendo before clearing her throat awkwardly. When the lifeguard took her eyes off of her, she was about to make a face before giving the guy a side-eye. Of course, he hadn't left. With a quiet sigh, Asami reached up to grab the lifeguard's neck and pulled her down into a fake kiss. Her lips were hovering at the corner of her lips when she made an audible kiss noise as well.
"I'll look forward to it then babe."
Thankfully, the guy gave up after that. "Tch, fucking dykes."
Once the guy was out of earshot, Asami stood up to thank the lifeguard. "Thanks a lot for the save Miss…?"
The lifeguard gave her a soft grin. "Korra, and please drop the 'Miss.'"
Asami chuckled bashfully at that. "Thanks for the save Korra, I'm Asami by the way."
Korra nodded before shrugging. "Don't sweat it, just doing my job and saving those in need." Her eyes then veered off to the table. "That's an amazing series by the way, I totally ran off to the nearest bookstore to snag the second book when I finished the first."
"Right!" Asami immediately beamed. "It's so good! I was planning to read this one at home but then my friends dragged me out here."
"Ahh… that explains a lot, I was wondering why you were by yourself."
Wait? Korra had been… looking at her? This hot lifeguard? Shut the front door!
"Anyways, I'll be around in the area. If you see me, feel free to say hi, and don't be afraid to ask for help." She pointed a thumb past her head. "Anyways, I gotta go now so have fun reading." She then pivoted on the soles of her feet and started walking away.
"Ahh—" Asami reached out her hand as if she was going to grab onto Korra but then fell short right after. "T-Thanks again!"
Korra didn't turn around but she did wave at her with a peace sign. Asami was somewhat disappointed with their short encounter but, she was grateful to meet such an attractive woman in the first place. She ended up taking a seat before picking up her book. She opened the pages back to where she was before letting her eyes flicker up. They quickly found Korra and okay, Asami wouldn't deny it. She currently found Korra's arms, legs, and ass more interesting than her book at the moment. Her book could wait.
Because Korra's nice ass couldn't.
A part of her knew it was wrong but Asami at least had the decency to be polite about it. She hid her face behind her book as she stared at Korra shamelessly. She was just appreciating from afar okay? If Korra were to come back in her direction, she promised she would look away but for now, she was going to enjoy this eye candy for as long as possible. Besides, from what vibes Asami picked off from her gaydar, it was just a hunch but she had a feeling Korra probably wouldn't mind her staring.
It wasn't until some time after that Asami got dragged away from her seat. Korra had left and her friends were back and very insistent on getting her into the water despite her protest. They were yapping around about something like 'What's the point in wearing a swimming suit if you're not gonna jump in?' and 'Come on, just a few slides then we could go home!' and 'It'll be fun and you know it!' and so and so forth.
So that's where Asami was, riding this boat ride and getting soaked from her mid-waist and down. Of course, it looked like she pissed herself. She had to admit though, it was fun. The adrenaline was nice. Her friends were right, getting some fresh air and doing something more stimulating was worth the hassle. They went down a few water slides, swam around in the float pool, and did a few other attractions at Avatar Waterfalls.
When the time they had to leave came, Asami had just finished changing her clothes. She was as dry as she could be and was zoned out as she waited for her friends to be finished.
"Asami, I'm gonna go get some water, you want something?" Mako asked as he set down a towel in his bag.
"No, I'm good. Thanks anyway."
He nodded before making his way, leaving Asami alone. Asami settled in her spot, standing in a corner while spacing out. She was flipping through her phone when a voice called out to her.
"Hey there, miss, I was wondering if you knew the time?"
Asami looked at him, eyeing him suspiciously before answering the question. "It's 7:50."
"Wow really?" He exclaimed, "That's later than I thought! Say, if you don't mind, did you want to get some dinner? I know a spot that's open pretty late."
Anddd there it was. Sighing softly, Asami looked back at her phone. "No thank you."
"Aw come on, it'll be my treat! I promise it's to die for!"
You're the last person I'd want to die with. "How many times do I have to say no for you to understand? No. I. Am. Not. Interested."
"Come on, give me a chance. A beautiful gal like you shouldn't be alone on a night like this."
An eyebrow twitched. "I swear… men are such—"
"Baby, there you are!" A familiar feminine voice called, "I was looking for you." Right when Asami turned, she was faced with blue eyes. It was Korra.
Korra smiled before walking up to Asami while making eye contact. She then shot the guy a look, eyeing him up and down, before standing next to Asami and holding her by her hips. "I'm starving, you down for dinner?"
"Perfect! You can join us too miss, the more the merrier!"
Humming thoughtfully, Korra shot him a side glance. "Hmm, I don't know." She then eyed Asami playfully, "I was craving something more… fishy."
Asami gasped as her face burned up. Was Korra actually… flirting with her?
"Then we can eat at a seafood restaurant! I know quite a few." The guy continues to push, not reading the underlying message.
This time, Korra sighed. She leaned into Asami's ear before whispering, "Spirits men can't read the mood for shit… you seriously got bad luck don't you?" She then gave her a pitiful smile before eyeing the guy. "Buddy." She then grabbed Asami's hand and interlaced their fingers, "Do I have to spell it out to you?" The guy shot them a blank face before Korra shook her head. "We're together." He still had a stupid look on his face. "As in we're dating. She's my girlfriend."
"Huh? What? But that's… huh?"
Seriously dude. Have you really never seen lesbians or something?" Korra sounded astonished and looked irritated at the same time. There was a heavy crease in her eyebrows as she pointed herself. "Look at me," she then pointed at Asami, "And her. We. Are. Gay. Lesbian. Woman and woman. Got it?! We're not into dudes so why don't you scram and get lost!" Her voice rose at the end and people began to stare.
"Asami?"
Asami quickly turned before her face brightened up. "Mako!"
The guy made eye contact with Mako before sighing. "Oh, you already had a boyfriend. Why didn't you say so."
Korra's veins practically popped as she almost jumped the guy. "I said she was my fucking girlfriend so get lost before I fucking make you!"
Both Asami and the guy flinched and thankfully, he seemed to get the message before scramming. When he was finally out of earshot, Korra let go Asami's hand. "Sorry, I didn't mean to um… get so personal with you."
"No, it's okay. I appreciate the help."
Mako finally went up to Asami's side defensively before shooting them both a look. "Hey, you alright Asami? What's going on?"
Korra eyed Mako before taking a step back and raising her hands up as if she was surrendering. "Sorry for the trouble, I didn't mean to bother your girlfriend."
Asami was quick to make a face. "Wait what—"
"Some guy was bothering her so I was trying to help. Anyways, I should be on my way now." She then waved before taking another step away. "I hope you enjoyed the park. Maybe I'll you around again?"
Mako was confused as Asami quickly reached out to grab her arm. "Hey! Wait please, Korra, let me thank you probably."
Korra made a face before she looked back and forth between the two of them. "Um…"
Asami smiled again before pulling Korra's arm closer to her chest. She was blatantly flirting a bit if she was being honest. "If you don't mind, how do you feel about dinner?" Okay, sure, she wasn't exactly being original like that guy from earlier but hey, she was fairly certain that Korra found her attractive too. "That is if you don't mind." She then pointed at Mako before clarifying, "Mako's a good friend of mine. I came together with him and his brother and his girlfriend. They're cool people so if you're down for it, we'd be happy to have you along."
Mako shot Asami a look and Asami just gave him a thin smile before nudging his side.
"Right, Mako?"
He glanced back and forth between the two before smiling handsomely. "Yeah, I'm cool with it. I don't exactly know what's happening but we'd be happy to buy you a meal. As thanks for helping her out."
"Makoooo! Asamiiii! We're back~!" Bolin shouted once he was within earshot. He was quick to notice Korra before walking up and asking, "And who's this pretty lady?"
Opal jammed his side before smiling at her. "Hey, nice to meet you, I'm Opal and that's Bolin, my boyfriend." She then offered her hand for a shake.
Korra chuckled before accepting her hand. "Korra, I'm one of the lifeguards working here. I had the pleasure of helping Asami a few times from unruly men."
As they shook hands, Opal eyed Korra up and down before smirking at Asami. "I see, in that case, we can't let her savior go scott free! You wanna come have dinner with us?"
Laughing at her friendly gesture, Korra glanced back and forth between them all. "Not you guys too…" She took a breath before shrugging with a smile. "Sure, why not? I guess it's fate since I ran into Asami again."
"Cool! Then it's settled."
Mako finally grabbed his belongings before nodding toward the exit. "Shall we go then? It shouldn't take us too long to head over to the restaurant."
"Alright, sounds good," Korra said before rolling her shoulder. "Lead the way. I came here by bus so whatever works for me."
Korra started following behind Mako and the moment Asami followed after them, Opal leaned into Bolin's ear. "We're totally hooking them up right?"
"What?" He whispered back in an innocent voice.
"Bo, come one, look at Asami!" They both looked at her. Asami was sneakily checking Korra out, eyeing her backside and ass. "She is soooo attracted to Korra. She's a hundred percent her type!"
He hummed while rubbing his chin. "You think so?"
"I know so." She exclaimed with much oomph and confidence. "Whatever we do, we are getting them together night!"
Bolin was quick to grin. "Operation get Asami laid?"
Opal nodded back. "Operation get Asami laid!"
