Sailor Moon was originally created by Naoko Takeuchi, while Golden Hawk was created by me, although his secret identity was created by Jerry and Sharon Logue. This series takes place in a real place, Orange County, California, during the 1980s. While I strive to make this series as accurate as possible, I have made some changes for artistic purposes.

Meet Serena Campbell, a typical all-American girl. Blonde hair, blue eyes, a little on the short side. She's very pretty, even though she sometimes thinks her nose is a little small for her face, and she sometimes wishes she was a couple inches taller. She has family and friends, people who love her, and people she loves. She sort of somewhat had a boyfriend, well, he's a boy, and he's her friend. And now, he's her boyfriend for real.

CHAPTER 3: MERCURY RISING

FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA

JULY 5, 1986

10:30 AM

Jerry Logue arrived at the house directly across the street from where he lived, carrying a guitar case and a small amplifier. He rang the bell, and the door was answered by Molly Baker. "Come in, we're just about to get started," she said.

"Good morning, Brooklyn," he said, calling Molly by the nickname he gave her due to her accent, which came from her being born in the aforementioned borough of New York City.

"Morning to you too, Pineapple Head," Molly said, using the nickname she gave Jerry, due to him having been born in Hawaii. "We're gonna be breaking in a new second guitarist today."

"We finally found someone to replace Mike?" Jerry asked, as they went to the garage, where Chris Forney was finishing up setting up his drum kit. Jerry plugged his amp in, opened the case, and took out a Gibson Explorer in black, which he plugged into his amp. "Who is it?"

"Friend of mine," Chris said. "Name's Ray."

"Cool," Molly said. "Let's warm up a bit until Ray gets here, how about we do "Panama"."

Chris counted in, and they began playing "Panama" by Van Halen, with Jerry singing and playing guitar. Serena Campbell showed up at the point where the vocals kicked in.

"Morning, baby," Jerry said, giving Serena a kiss.

"Morning," Serena said.

"Whoa," Molly and Chris said in unison.

"We're officially a couple now," Serena said.

"Finally," Chris said.

"Yeah," Molly said. "The two of you have been ga-ga over each other ever since I've known you."

"We finally realized that the other day," Jerry said.

At that moment, a girl with long black hair showed up at the garage. She was wearing a white tube top under a pair of pink overalls that had the legs pegged a few inches above the ankles, and white sandals, and was carrying a guitar case. "Hey guys," she said, setting her guitar case on a stool and opening it. She took out a left handed Vox Phantom VI in red, and plugged it in to the nearest available amps. "You must be Jerry," she said, shaking his hand. "I'm Rae Hinkley."

"Hi Rae," Jerry said.

"Now let me guess," Rae said. "When Chris or Molly told you what my name is, you thought I was a guy. Don't sweat it. I get it all the time."

"Just as long as you can play guitar," Jerry said.

"Does this answer your question?" Rae asked, and played a note for note rendition of "Eruption".

"Holy crap on a cracker," Jerry said when she finished, and he started applauding. "You play better than I do."

"Let's hear you play," Rae said.

Jerry played the theme to Johnny Quest. "What do you think?" he asked.

"Not bad," Rae said.

"No offense, dear, but she does play better," Serena said.

"Who's the blonde?" Rae asked.

"Jerry's girlfriend," Chris said.

"Serena, Rae, Rae, Serena," Molly said.

"Nice to meet you," Serena said. "Don't think I've seen you around before. Where do you live?"

"Around the corner, few houses down," Rae said. "Just past the little cul-de-sac there. And before you ask why you've never seen me at school, I go to Rosary. At least, I did until September, when I start at El Dorado."

"You part of the "Great Exodus of 1986"?" Jerry asked. "I read about it, that's what they call it in the Register. Almost 400 students from Servite, Rosary, and Mater Dei are getting pulled out and sent to public school in the fall, in protest for what they feel is the Diocese of Orange is sweeping that little situation with Father Matthews under the rug, and I'll just leave it at that."

"Thank you very much," Rae said. "I wasn't directly affected, but it is kind of a sore subject. But anyways, what you forgot to mention is that every public high school in Orange County and even a couple in Los Angeles County will be getting at least one student from either Servite, Rosary, and/or Mater Dei. I don't know about that, but the one thing I do know is that I'm not the only one going to El Dorado."

"Think we can get back to rehearsing?" Jerry asked. "Isn't that why we're here?"

"Sure," Molly said. "You do know "Rainbow in the Dark", don't you?"

"Don't you need a keyboard player for that one?" Rae asked.

"I play keyboard and Jerry plays the bass," Molly said.

"I don't know the solo," Rae said.

"I do," Jerry said.

"I can play keyboard," Serena said. "And I've heard that song enough that I can play it by ear."

"Great, you're our new keyboard player," Molly said.

They played the song, with Serena on keyboard and Jerry on vocals, followed by a few other songs, specifically "If You Leave" by Orchestral Manoevres in the Dark, "Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits, "Tears are Falling" by KISS, and "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden, all sung by Jerry. They also played "If She Knew What She Wants" by the Bangles, "These Dreams" by Heart, and "I Only Want to Be With You" by Dusty Springfield, sung by Molly, "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts sung by Rae, and even Serena taking a turn at singing lead with "We Got the Beat" by the Go-Go's, and doing a duet with Jerry on "Shout it Out Loud" by KISS.

After going through their songs, practice broke up when Steve Petruzzi, Jerry's stepbrother came over. "Can you drive me to the mall?" Steve asked. "I'm going to meet a couple friends there, we're going to catch a movie."

"I'll drive you," Serena said. "I have my license and a car now."

"Just let me go put my guitar and amp away and let Bonnie know where I'm going," Jerry said.

"Take your time," Steve said. "I won't be ready to go for another 15 minutes."

"I'll go get Peggy Sue," Serena said.

"Who's Peggy Sue?" Steve asked, as he and Jerry walked back to their house.

"Serena's car," Jerry said. "Her parents got her a pink Cadillac for her birthday."

A bit later, Serena showed up in Jerry's driveway in Peggy Sue. "You guys ready to go?" she asked.

"Ready when you are," Jerry said.

"Coming right out," Steve said.

"Call me when the movie gets out," Bonnie said, as she came out. "And Serena, thanks for taking Steve."

"My pleasure," Serena said. "I wanted a reason to go for a drive anyways. Besides, Jerry's mom hasn't seen Peggy Sue yet."

"You named it Peggy Sue?" Bonnie asked.

"Name seemed to fit," Serena said. "After all, it is a pink Cadillac."

"I get that," Bonnie said. "Peggy Sue does fit the whole 50s vibe. But what I don't understand is why Jerry named his car the Flying Dutchman."

"I heard the name somewhere," Jerry said, "and it sounded cool. Anyways, after we drop Steve off at the theater, Serena and I are going to see my mom for a bit, and go see what's playing at Fashion Square."

"What about the mall?" Bonnie asked.

"We've seen 2 of the movies playing there," Serena said. "And neither of us wants to see either of the other 2."

"Makes sense," Bonnie said. "Anyways, Steve, don't forget to call me when the movie gets out, and Jerry, let your dad and I know if you plan on spending the night over there."

"I'll be coming back if I'm spending the night there," Jerry said. "I'd need to grab a change of clothes and my car."

"Okay," Bonnie said.

"So why would you name your car, anyway?" Steve asked.

"Why not?" Jerry replied.

"Yeah," Serena said.

A few minutes later, they arrived at the Brea Mall. Serena drove around to the entrance nearest the movie theater, where she pulled over so Steve could get out. "I'll be right back," Jerry said. "I'm going to call my mom and let her know we're coming."

"Okay," Serena said.

Jerry went to the payphones outside the mall entrance, and called his mom. "Hey mom," he said when she picked up. "Serena and I are at the mall right now, we're heading out your way. Yeah, Steve wanted to go to the movies, Serena volunteered to drive him. Sure, Bob's is okay, we were thinking of seeing what's playing at Fashion Square anyways. I'll just let Serena know, we should be there in about 20-30 minutes. See you when you get there."

"You ready to go?" Serena said, when Jerry got back in the car.

"Yeah," Jerry said. "By the way, we're meeting my mom for lunch at Bob's Big Boy on Beach."

"Perfect," Serena said. "Since we're going to see what's playing at Fashion Square anyways."

They arrived about 20 minutes later, at Bob's Big Boy, where they met up with Sharon, Jerry's mom, as well as Debbie, his sister. "Debbie told me you got your license," Sharon said.

"Yeah," Serena said. "Passed my test with flying colors. Got a perfect score. And since it was my Sweet Sixteen, my parents got me a car for my birthday."

"What kind of car did you get?" Sharon asked.

"1959 Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz convertible," Serena said. "But wait, here's the best part: it's pink. That's right, I got a pink Cadillac."

"Nice," Sharon said.

"Serena and I are dating now," Jerry said.

"I knew you would someday," Sharon said.

For lunch, Sharon got a chef salad, with bleu cheese dressing, and a diet Coke, Debbie got a Big Boy combo with Roquefort on her salad and a chocolate shake, while both Jerry and Serena got Big Boy combos, Jerry getting 1000 island(along with some extra 1000 island for his burger) and a root beer shake(hold the whipped cream), and Serena getting ranch and a peach lunch, Serena showed Sharon her car, and while Sharon and Debbie went to one of the stores in Fashion Square, Jerry and Serena went to the theater at nearby Fashion Square, where they didn't see anything they wanted to see(the only movie there they would have any interest in seeing was Big Trouble in Little China, which they had already seen).

Meanwhile, in Fashion Square, Amy Anderson had just finished having lunch with her mother at Fiddler's Three, and went to the nail salon to get their nails done. They had both gotten manicures, Amy getting a light peach colored polish, her mother getting fuchsia. "You sure you don't want a pedicure too?" Saeko Anderson asked.

"I'm sure," Amy said. "I know it's summer, and I'll mostly either be wearing sandals or going barefoot, but I really don't like doing my toes. Maybe if it was a special occasion, like a wedding or my senior prom, but for the most part, I like my toenails unpainted."

"Okay," Saeko said. "What do you say we meet up at the bench out front in about an hour?"

"That's fine," Amy said. "I saw a cute dress at Helping Hearts, I want to see if it's my size, and maybe look around to see if they have anything else I like."

"You need any money?" Saeko asked.

"I have some money on me," Amy said. "If I need any more, I'll come get you."

"Okay," Saeko said. "But I don't get why you like shopping at thrift stores."

"It's not the money," Amy said. "To me, going to thrift stores is like an adventure. I never know what I'll find there. On a good day, I could spend more there than I would spend at Bullock's."

"You probably could," Saeko said. "Besides, I saw the dress you're talking about, and it is cute. If you get it, I may end up borrowing it myself once or twice. In fact, why don't I just meet you at Helping Hearts in about an hour."

"Okay," Amy said. She went to Helping Hearts Helping Hands, a thrift store whose profits were used to help fund Helping Hearts, a La Habra based charity that helped people with intellectual disabilities. The shop provided jobs for teens and adults with intellectual disabilities, as well as a day camp for children and young teens with intellectual disabilities.

"Hi Amy," a young man, in his early 20s, with Down's Syndrome, said when she entered.

"Hi Billy," Amy said.

"Is there anything I can help you with today?" Billy asked.

"As a matter of fact, there is," Amy said. "I'd like to see that blue dress in the window."

"My pleasure," Billy said. He liked helping customers, especially ones like Amy. In fact, he especially liked helping Amy, as outside the store, the two of them were friends. "The changing rooms are all empty if you want to try that on," he said.

"Thanks Billy," Amy said, as she took the dress, and went to try it on. When she tried it on, she was pleased to find it fit her perfectly, and the price tag on the dress said it was only $5. "What do you think?" she asked, as she came out of the dressing room, and turned around so Billy could see her from all sides.

"You look cute in that dress," Billy said. "In fact, we have a pair of shoes I think would go perfectly with it. Would you like to see them?"

"Definitely," Amy said. Billy took her to where they kept shoes, and got her a pair of pumps that were the same shade of blue as the dress, and had 1" kitten heels, and they were in her size, and were only $2. She removed the sandals she was wearing, and since she was wearing sandals with bare legs, Billy handed her a pair of disposable nylon booties, which she put on under the shoes. "You're right, as always," she said. "I'll take both the shoes and the dress." Once Amy changed out of the dress and shoes, Billy put them up front, behind the counter, hanging the dress on a small rack, and the shoes in a cubbyhole under the counter, both labeled with her name. As he did that, Amy continued shopping, finding a couple other outfits she liked, as well as a few separate pieces, and another pair of shoes.

Meanwhile, Serena and Jerry finished lunch, and went to the theater in Fashion Square. As it turned out, they didn't go to the movies, as three of the four movies were movies neither was particularly interested in seeing, and the other, Big Trouble in Little China, they had already seen. "I decided I'm spending the night at my mom's tonight," Jerry said. "Which means I have to go back to my dad's and get a change of clothes and my car. Tell you what, why don't I call you when I leave, and you can meet me at 300 Bowl."

"Is that the one on Whittier or Imperial?" Serena asked.

"Whittier," Jerry said. "We can drop my car off at my mom's on the way."

"Sounds like a plan," Serena said. "I kind of wanted to go bowli..." She heard screams coming from the general direction of Fashion Square's courtyard.

"I heard it too," Jerry said. "Let's go investigate."

The two of them went to Fashion Square proper, where they saw a creature attacking shoppers. The creature stood about 7 foot tall, had greenish blue skin, and would easily blend in to the cantina from Star Wars. "Looks like this is our first rodeo as an official team," Jerry said, as he materialized a gold colored device the size of a cassette case, with rounded corners and beveled edges. On one side was a handle, the other had a gold circle with a carved impression of a hawk's head in the center. He held the device out in front of him with his right hand, his left on top of the device. "Golden Hawk!" he yelled, and was transformed, the device becoming the buckle of his belt.

"You took the words right out of my mouth," Serena said, holding up her brooch. "Pretty Soldier of the Moon,Make-Up!"

As Serena and Jerry transformed into Sailor Moon and Golden Hawk respectively, Luna appeared at their feet. "Oh good," Luna said. "You're both here and in character. I got an alert about activity here at Fashion Square, as well as another matter I need to look into."

"Enough yapping," Golden Hawk said. "I see something that's evil as Old Scratch himself, that's ugly as sin, and is in desperate need to have my foot shoved so far up its ass, its tonsils will have athlete's foot."

"And my foot shoved so far up its ass its breath will smell like nail polish," Sailor Moon said. "Leave those shoppers alone!" she yelled at the creature.

"Come deal with us!" Golden Hawk said.

"And who are you?" the creature asked.

"I am the Sailor Soldier of Love and Justice," Sailor Moon said. "I am Sailor Moon, and in the name of the Moon, I'll punish you!"

"And I'm the Wicked Cool Suburban Vigilante of 1986," Golden Hawk said. "You can call me Golden Hawk, and in the name of all that is awesome, I'll kick your ass!"

"Delusions of grandeur," the creature said. It shot a blast of energy at Sailor Moon and Golden Hawk, who easily avoided it. Golden Hawk grabbed his staff and transformed it into a blaster, and fired several shots at the creature.

"Moon Sonic Blast!" Sailor Moon said, shooting powerful sound waves at the creature.

As Billy and Amy came out of the store to investigate, the creature grabbed Billy by the throat and picked him up. "Leave my friend alone!" Amy said, throwing the can of soda she had in her hand at it.

"Maybe I should take you instead," the creature said, tossing Billy aside.

Amy ran from the creature, and let out a scream as she tripped, in front of Luna. As she screamed, Luna could see the symbol for the planet Mercury on her forehead for a brief moment. "It's her," Luna said. "The second Guardian."

"There must be something in that brownie I had with lunch," Amy said. "I could have sworn I just heard that black cat speak."

"Why do people think my ability to speak is a side effect of drug use?" Luna said, as she produced a pen with a disc on the cap that had the symbol for Mercury on it. "Take this, and repeat after me, Pretty Mercury Soldier, Make-Up!"

"Okay, kitty, I'll do whatever you say," Amy said. "Maybe if I do, this nightmare might make sense. Pretty Mercury Soldier, Make-Up!" When she said that, she was transformed. She was wearing a costume similar to the one worn by Sailor Moon, but with collar, choker, tights, and wristbands in a darker shade of blue, boots(with dark blue laces) and neckerchief were light blue, a dark blue gem as a clasp, and her top had long sleeves. Also, her fingernails were now dark blue, and she was wearing a dark blue visor over her eyes, which acted as a HUD display. "What just happened?" Amy asked.

"You're now Sailor Mercury," Luna said. "Sailor Moon and Golden Hawk need your help."

"I assume Golden Hawk is the one who's dressed like a ninja and the one dressed like me is Sailor Moon," Sailor Mercury said.

"You assume correctly," Luna said.

"Okay then," Sailor Mercury said. "Mercury Hailstorm Barrage!" Hailstones of different sizes shot from her hands, assaulting the creature.

"Now who are you?" the creature asked.

"I am the Sailor Soldier of Love and Wisdom," Sailor Mercury said. "I am Sailor Mercury, and in the name of Mercury, Douse yourself with water and repent!"

"You mean getting your ass handed to you by three of us isn't enough?" Golden Hawk asked. He grabbed the creature by the wrist and pulled it towards him, clotheslining it with his right arm. He then picked the creature up to its feet, grabbed it in a front facelock with his left arm, and fell onto his back while slapping the creature's left shoulder, driving the creature's head into the ground. "Sailor Moon, do that thing with your tiara as soon as this thing gets up!"

"Right," Sailor Moon said, removing her tiara. "Moon Tiara, Boomerang!"

She threw her tiara at the creature, destroying it. "That takes care of him," Sailor Mercury said.

"Good riddance," Golden Hawk said.

"Are you okay?" Sailor Mercury said, helping Billy get up.

"I'm just a little shaken up," Billy said. "but I'll live."

"That's good," Sailor Mercury said.

"Alright," Golden Hawk said. "Everyone here who received superpowers from a talking black cat in the last week, gather around."

"What's this all about?" Sailor Moon asked.

"Yeah," Sailor Mercury said.

"I just wanted to welcome the newest member of our team," Golden Hawk said.

"You did good for your first time," Sailor Moon said.

"Gee, thanks," Sailor Mercury said.

"Anyways," Golden Hawk said, grabbing a few smoke pellets from a pouch in his belt, "time we had a little privacy." He tossed the pellets down, and the three of them were surrounded by a thick fog. While they were still able to see, nobody outside could see or hear them.

"I think it's time everyone change back to their civilian identities," Sailor Moon said, touching the jewel on her brooch. "Serena Campbell."

Golden Hawk grabbed his belt buckle, which transformed him back to Jerry Logue, the buckle becoming the device he used to transform.

"Now how do I change back?" Sailor Mercury asked.

"Touch the clasp of your neckerchief and say your real name," Luna said.

"Amy Anderson," Sailor Mercury said, touching the clasp of her neckerchief, and transforming back to Amy.

"I think since we're all going to be working together," Jerry said, "we should know each other's secret identities."

"True," Serena said. "If we're going to be working together, we should be able to trust each other. Way I see it, if we can trust each other with our secret identities, we definitely can trust each other. Anyways, I'm Serena Campbell."

"Amy Anderson," Amy said.

"Jerry Logue," Jerry said.

"You two look familiar," Amy said. "You go to El Dorado?"

"Yeah," Jerry said. "Now that you mention it, I think I've seen you around campus, but probably never noticed."

"Well, it's good to meet the two of you," Amy said, "but I have to get back to Helping Hearts."

"Is Billy working today?" Jerry asked.

"You know Billy?" Amy asked.

"Yeah," Jerry said. "He lives next door to my mom. His twin sister works at Gracio's Pizza, right across from Meltebeke Volkswagen, over by Pic-N-Save."

Amy went back to Helping Hearts, along with Jerry and Serena. Jerry went to look at the records, and found a couple that aroused his interest. One was KISS, the self-titled debut album from the rock group of the same name. He looked at the back cover, at the track listings in particular, and noticed the album only contained 9 songs. He also found Nazz, the self-titled debut of that particular band. Serena looked, and found a couple outfits, and Jerry found a T-shirt from KISS's Dynasty tour in 1979, which was not only in excellent condition, but was in his size. He and Serena then went to look at some of the other things, and found several child's metal lunchboxes. Serena found a KISS lunchbox, and showed it to Jerry. "Hey Jerry, didn't you tell me once you had a KISS lunchbox one year when you lived with your mom?"

"Yeah," Jerry said, and Serena handed it to him. He looked at the box, and opened it to see if the Thermos bottle was still inside, which it was. He then inspected it, and found a Chicara symbol and the initials "GCL" etched on the top of the lid. "In fact, this is the lunchbox I had."

"How do you know?" Serena asked.

"Here," Jerry said. "I remember my mom telling me that most of the boys in my class would have KISS lunchboxes that year, so she convinced me to etch my name on it, so I knew which one was mine. I didn't really feel like carving my name, since there were a couple other guys in my grade named Jerry, so I just carved my initials, as well as some Japanese symbol from the cover of Hotter Than Hell." He pointed to where he carved his initials and the symbol. "Funny thing, there was only one other guy who had a KISS lunchbox that year."

"Where did you get the G from?" Amy asked. "I thought your name is Jerry."

"My full name is Gerald," Jerry said. "I just go by Jerry. Anyways, I'm going to buy this lunchbox. Not that I really need it, but I think I might find some use for it."

"How did it wind up here, anyways?" Amy asked.

"My mom," Jerry said. "She saved all my old lunchboxes from when I was a kid, as well as my sister's. A couple years ago, when Debbie started middle school, she donated them to Helping Hearts. She also donated most of my old toys when I started junior high. I had a lot of Star Wars stuff, Hot Wheels, a full set of KISS action figures, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel and DC superheroes, and some other stuff I don't remember."

"Didn't she think some of that stuff might put you through college?" Amy asked.

"Nah," Jerry said. "They've been played with a bit too much to have much collector's value, and they do some good being donated to a place like this. Besides, toys are supposed to be played with, not collected and displayed on a shelf somewhere."

"Anyways," Amy said, "I gotta go pay for my stuff, my mom should be here in a few minutes."

"I got all I want," Serena said.

"Me too," Jerry said. Along with the records, the lunchbox, and T-shirt, he found a couple other shirts he liked. Amy found an additional outfit, as did Serena. "Let's get out of here while some of us still have money," Jerry said.

"Good idea," Amy said.

"I see you found some things you like," Billy said, when Amy went to pay for her stuff. "And here's the dress and shoes you found when you first came in."

"Thanks, Billy," Amy said, paying for her stuff, which Billy put in bags.

"I found a couple cute outfits," Serena said, as she paid for her stuff.

"I see you still like KISS," Billy said, when he saw what Jerry was purchasing.

"If you ask me," Jerry said, "they waited too long to take the makeup off. They should have taken it off when they released Creatures of the Night. I know a lot of fans had written them off at the time, but I think if they had the publicity around taking the makeup off, people would discover it's their hardest album yet."

As Jerry paid for his items, Saeko came in the store, after getting her pedicure. "Find anything good?" she asked.

"Yeah," Amy said. "I found a few outfits, and a couple pairs of shoes. Anyways, mom, I want you to meet a couple friends from school. This is Serena and Jerry, and this is my mom."

"Nice to meet you two," Saeko said.
