Duel Academy II
Yuji Kimura looked around at his surroundings in astonishment. He was currently standing in the biggest test arena he'd ever seen. Yuji was a 17-old-boy. He was fairly tall for his age with light blue hair swept over to one side save for a white parting which covered his white eye. He had dark blue eyes and an aura that seemed to give off positive vibes to the people around him. He wore a dark blue hoodie and black jeans with dark blue sneakers. His duel disk was a light blue with a high tech area to hold his duel disk and a mechanical blade which split out in two and joined to operate. At the minute he was at the duel academy entrance exams.
To get this far he had to take an entrance exam which was pretty tough even for his standards. Although they had to be, duel academy was the next stage to becoming a professional, card maker ect. basically the high end fun jobs. That was Yuji's plan to become the best duelist in the world! Kind of sad he knew but it's what he'd always dreamt of, he loved dueling more then anything. There was another reason why he applied but he wasn't going to reveal that straight away. The hall he was in very large with at least twenty different dueling pitches and stands where you could sit and watch and wait for your result. The result of your practical test. Yuji wasn't worried. He was confident enough in his skills and knew he could defeat a test deck. The roof of the arena was shut, probably to keep the prying eyes of the public out, after all a lot of celebrity duellists' children came to the academy and it had produced legendary talents in the past. When it was an Island huge dueling names such as Jaden Yuki and Zane Truesdale as well as card designer Chumley Huffington. Then when it moved to New Domino City it produced names such as Akiza Izinski. The school was a big deal. Now a days it was back on an Island, the original Island as it turned out.
Yuji decided that he'd wait until his duel by staying on the side and watching who might be of interest to duel when School starts. All the pupils seemed to be spread out across the stadium, although some of them had their jackets already. A mix of Red, Yellow and Blue. Some second and third years at a guess come to watch the duels of their siblings. Scanning the fields Yuji saw various monsters although most of the duels seemed to be approaching their end (most likely for the next wave to start). The majority of the monsters seemed to be Xyz monsters save for the odd Synchro. This was expected, Xyz monsters had been launched only a few years ago and were the easiest to use of the extra deck monsters forcing Ritual, Fusion and Synchro summoning to all take a back seat. Yuji's eyes locked onto one field just as the final attack was being ordered. It was ordered by a girl who like Yuji was 17 years old (everyone was). She was about a head and a half smaller then Yuji with Pink hair tied in a pony tail which went down to her mid back. She was wearing a white blouse with a pink leather jacket over the top with pink fur trimmings around the sleeves. She also had a pink mini skirt, black tights and black combat boots. Her face was what other boys who weren't Yuji would call cute and her eyes were a deep pink colour, the same as her duel disk which was the exact same as Yuji's save for the colour. She seemed to radiate self confidence and her facial features were moulded into a smile. Unlike her opponent who seemed to have gritted teeth and a face of pure panic. Sweat was dripping off his forehead as he looked over the human bird like creature in front of him. It was roughly humanoid in shape with blue skin and feminine features. Its hair was very long going past its legs onto the floor and was a shade of purple, her face was pretty for a bird women with a gentle smile on her face. Her wings were spread out and glowing a light blue. Also instead of feet she seemed to have Talons instead. Weird. The girl duelist raised her arm in the air and she shouted:
"Go Lyrilusc – Ensemblue Robin! Attack him directly! Final Melody!" At this the bird flew up into the sky to the amazement of the crowd and sang down a beautiful tune focused at the examiner. It hit him on the head knocking him off his feet as he screamed going to the floor.

"Dang…" Yuji muttered as the monsters de materialised and the girl walked up to the examiner. She held out her hand and helped him to his feet. The examiner nodded his head, de activated his duel disk and said:
"Impressive skills. Welcome to Duel Academy." He seemed to have an unbelievably fake posh English accent. In response the girl smiled wide and shook is had rather quickly comically moving his arm up and down.
"Thanks! Sweet duel by the way!"
"Beg your pardon?"
"The duel that was totally sweet! Thanks for doing it teach!"
"You enjoyed an examination?
"Well since it was as fun as that, hell yeah."
"I see, you're a rather impressive person you know."
"Gee thanks teach!" She seemed to be smiling wildly again causing several students watching the exchange to say 'cringe'. Yuji didn't think anything of it though, although she did seem a bit excessive though.
"That's Professor Thompson to you young Lady."
"So, you're a teacher at the island? Cool! I just thought you were like a higher guy especially with hat bad accent."
"I'm head of dueling linguistics and if you must know I'm from London thank you this is my real voice."
"So… you talk like that… all the time." The girl blinked.
"Yes is there anything wrong with that miss?"
"No no no… I didn't mean anything… It's a good voice."
"I suggest you go and sit down miss. Good day."
The man walked away from her and went down to the gathering groups of professors with their equipment. The girl just walked away from them and took off her duel disk and deactivated it going to sit in the stands. She just so happened to sit about three seats from Yuji as he was basically nearest the floor. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand and muttered silently under her breath a 'phew'. Yuji looked over at her but she seemed to be looking at her lap.
"Nice duel." He said to her causing her to jump at his words.
"Woah don't do that please!" She said holding her hands over her chest as if she was holding her heart. Yuji sweat dropped, was this girl for real?
"Sorry." He responded simply.
"Hey, it's cool don't worry I was pretty amazing wasn't I." She said to him. He just scratched the back of his head.
"Well, I don't really know to be honest I only saw the end of it."
"I was so good! I won in like 2 turns and my Xyz monsters were so amazing!" Yuji found himself sweat dropping yet again at this girl. Woah she was arrogant.
"Didn't it say turn six on your duel disk?" Clearly this was the wrong thing to say though as the girl suddenly seemed to fall off of her chair. She got back up and went right up to Yuji's face.
"WHAT!? WHO DO YOU EVEN THINK YOU ARE!?"
"Yuji Kimura nice to meet you" Yuji held out his hand ignoring the anger seething out of the girl. Although at Yuji's name she seemed to forget her anger momentarily as she thought for a second.
"Hey your name sounds kinda familiar."
"What's your name?" Yuji asked trying to avoid the subject which would have inevitably come up.
"Evelynn Anderson." She seemed to say her name with a sense of pride. How was she so full of herself. The name was very familiar though and it was clear who she was.
"Oh, does that mean your family owns those huge cloths departments?" The girl looked very surprised at hearing this.
"Yeah, how'd you work that out?"
"Well, your last name for a start, also the fact that all your cloths are from an Anderson store and also because I heard the Anderson's daughter wanted to become a duelist instead of going into their family clothing business."
"My dad's business. And you seriously worked all that out?"
"No, I just remember seeing your name in the news."
"Oh right." This caused Evelynn to burst out laughing to which Yuji just looked at her like she was clinically insane. She seemed to stop after a minute and then start up again straight after. There was no way this girl was real. After she stopped, she turned to Yuji again.
"So, why'd you apply to the academy?"
"Whys anyway apply to the academy… to be the next king of games of course!" Yuji said smiling at her for the first time.
"Not possible." She said to him turning away and closing her eyes.
"Says who?"
"Says me, I'm gonna be the next queen of games."
"You'll have to defeat me first if you want to." Yuji said smiling at her.
"Oh that'll be easy."
"No offense," Said Yuji trying to find an easy way of saying this, "But with that attitude your gonna be defeated pretty easily."
"Not possible with my deck, after all did you see my duel with the examiner?"
"Well yeah, a Lyralusc deck may be pretty strong and rare but you only defeated a test deck."
"Oh trust me, some of these test decks are strong. Look at that one over there." She pointed her hand over to a duel field. Yuji was surprised to see her taking his casual insult of her skills so well. He looked over to where she was pointing.
"Woah what is that?" Yuji exclaimed focusing on the blue dragon on the examiner's field. It was large with six wings protruding from its back and two powerful arms and two powerful legs from the front. There seemed to be strange markings over its body and it's eyes glowed a bright red. It roared from where it was on the field with two balls of light orbiting around it.

"Evolzar Laggia." She said focusing back onto the duel.
"They use Evol decks as test decks?" Yuji asked in disbelief. An Evol deck was tough for most duelists because their Xyz monsters could negate and destroy your monster effects. Laggia was the weakest but it was still a troublesome monster.
"Only a simple one. Nothing too serious but still enough to test you. The only problem is that the man whose using it also uses an Evol deck as his personal deck. Meaning he knows it's strategies pretty well. Just watch this."
The two of them turned their attention back to the duel. The owner of the Evolzar monster was a tall man with a black beard and swept back black hair in a bun. He wore black glasses and a yellow duel blazar with a dragon bird monster sewn on as a badge. His duel disk was also a standard silver academy one which split open like all other duel disks. His opponent was a very worried looking applicant who had only a warrior monster on his field and a facedown card whereas the examiner had only his Laggia.

"Evolzar Laggia attack his monster! Evolving Flames!" The dragon opened its mouth and prepared to fire at the young applicant. The applicant although worried didn't give up though.
"I activate the trap Sakuretsu Armour! Now when your monster attacks I can destroy it!" A card with a wolf in armour appeared fighting back two red warriors.
"Big mistake." Yuji said to Evalynn who just nodded.
"A pointless move. I activate the effect of Evolzar Laggia. Now by releasing two overlay units, your effect is negated, and the card destroyed!"
Evolzar Laggia spread out its wings and caught it's two overlay units with it's mouth, then Sakuretsu Armour glowed and shattered into pixels.
"Not good!" The applicant cried.
"On with your attack Evolzar Laggia! Destroy his monster!" Evolzar Laggia gathered blue flames in it's mouth and then fired them onto the poor applicant's monster destroying it into pixels and causing him to go flying back in defeat.

"Fail! Try again next year." He said walking away whilst the applicant looked like he was on the verge of tears.
"Woah he's a little angry." Yuji said turning back to Evalynn. She looked back at him nodding her head. "From what I've heard he's a nice guy but when he duels he goes a bit overboard."
"A bit? he sounded like he was gonna kill the poor kid."
"Well, he used to be a former pro but had to give it up because a monster attacked him too hard one day causing a real injury. Apparently, he's been like that ever since."
"Hope I don't have to face him." After Yuji said this a man wearing an academy's committee blazer approached the pair. He had a clip board with him and focused in on Yuji.
"Are you Yuji Kimura?" He asked looking Yuji up and down.
"Yes." Yuji responded looking up. The man just ignored him and looked on his clipboard.
"I need to ask what deck your using so we can find an opponent."
"Malware."
"A what?"
"Malware."
"Never heard of it, are you messing with me kid."
"No, it's just a very rare deck. Look under Cyberse category." The man reluctantly did so. Yuji understood why he was reluctant. Cyberse experimentation was still very new only a few decks of it existed, they weren't available to the public. He only had one because of his mother. Looking under the Cyberse archetype he saw there was indeed a Malware archetype. Except it said only one in existence.
"You have a Cyberse deck?" Evalynn asked in disbelief. Other people around them who heard started talking to each other.
"Yes."
"You're the only one who has them?" The man asked.
"That's right?"
"Well then… I think Professor Tanner will be a suitable opponent. Find him at field 3." At that he walked off.
"Looks like I'm up then." Yuji said after the man had gone. He got up from his chair only to see Evalynn staring at him.
"You don't know who Professor Tanner is do you…"
"Well… No."
"The guy who just dueled."
"Wait what? You mean I'm against him!" Yuji widened his eyes in disbelief.
"Looks like you won't be making it after all. Nobody ever defeats Tanner."
"We'll see." And at that Yuji walked away. Seriously? What was the point in having an unbeatable dueling instructor. Did Chancellor Rhodes even want people in her school?
Yuji walked around the fields with the duelists on and made it to field 3. It was the opposite end to where Evalynn was although she could still see him. Many of the students watching him were muttering things. All he could make out were the words 'Cyberse' and 'Malware'. He paid it no mind however. He looked over to his opponents end of the field and saw he was just setting up and signing a paper. 'Don't be nervous' Yuji thought to himself. 'All great duelists have been where you are now, and if they can make it so can you.' That was what his mom had told him. She had every faith he could do this. Although Yuji wasn't really sure if he had complete faith yet. At least this was only a test deck. The best test deck at that. His opponent had finally finished setting things up and placed his duel disk on his arm activating it. Yuji did the same.
"So, your Yuji Kimura?" He asked eyeing Yuji carefully.
"Yes professor." Yuji bowed his head slightly. Pay the teachers respect was what he was told by his sister. She had been big on that when she went to Duel Academy.
"I hear you have a Cyberse deck. Is this true?" He seemed to have a glee of excitement in his voice like a giddy school child.
"Yes professor, a Malware deck."
"Ah! You know I've always wanted to teach a Cyberse duelist! I do hope you succeed!" Yuji honestly believed his words. Although, he did struggle to accept that this same man was just earlier looking like he was about to rip off the head of a poor applicant. Scratch that he almost did. The professor seemed to be picking up on the fact that Yuji was feeling a little nervous.
"Don't be nervous boy, this will soon be over." And suddenly the malicious sound in his voice seemed to be back. Now the man just seemed to be looking Yuji up and down. This man clearly had issues.
"When do we start?" Asked Yuji hoping to redirect the man's attention.
"Well," He said raising his arm, "They say there's no time like the present."
"Then let's do this." Yuji also raised his arm, confidence in his voice. 'Here we go, the duel of your life.'
"Duel!" They both simultaneously shouted.

Both players drew five cards and looked over their hands. Yuji looked over his shoulder and saw that Evalynn seemed to be sitting closer to the duel field as were many other students who probably heard he had a Cyberse deck. Unfortunately, Professor Tanner seemed to notice Yuji hesitate and thought this meant Yuji wanted him to make the first move.
"My turn." He said picking a card from his hand. 'Dam it,' Yuji thought to himself, 'gotta focus.'
"I'll start by summoning Evoltile Gephyro." The professor placed the card in his duel disk and a small four legged purple lizard with a tail of visible DNA inside of it. (ATK:200 DEF:400 LV1)
"200 Attack points?" Muttered Evalynn from the stands confusion in her voice.
"Guess he bricked." Was what other people from around the duel were also saying. However Yuji wasn't most people.
"So what are you planning on doing to your monster?" He asked.
"Very good my boy, most people would think this move weak. All the same it doesn't matter what you think, you're doomed!"
"I activate the spell card Evo-Force!" This card showed a bridge of light between a dinosaur and a lizard. "Now I tribute my Gephyro to summon my Evolsaur Pelta from my deck." A large green dinosaur monster appeared on the professor's field. It had purple diamonds along its back and red spikes protruding from it's side, like its predecessor its tail also had visible DNA. (ATK:1100 DEF:2000)
"Now that's more like it." Clapped Evalynn as did others around her.
"Theres more my boy, because now thanks to the spell I used my monster unlocks it's abilities. This means it gain's 500 defence points."

"2500 defence points…" Yuji muttered. The crowd around him started cheering.
"I end my turn make your move boy."
"2500… Still nothing I can't handle." Yuji said cheerfully.
"Handle?" The professor repeated.
"He's nuts." Evalynn said to herself.
"I draw." Yuji scouted over his hand. Nothing too good but nothing too bad, he could certainly start with a good impression. "I summon my Malware Driver in attack mode!" (ATK:2100 DEF:1300 LV5)
A large humanoid figure rose. It was covered in silver armour with a pair of cybernetic silver wings coming from its back. It also had a belt with two large swords on and its face was covered with a scarf. The rest of its body not covered was black apart from its human looking face which had blue cyber like eyes. "Woah." Muttered Evalynn. This time the crowd were cheering about Yuji. It was the first time many of them had seen a Cyberse monster, yet alone a 17-year-old with one. Even the good professor was impressed though he tried to hide it.
"It is certainly impressive boy but how exactly did you summon it?"
"When you're the only one with a monster I can special summon him from my hand."
"I see in that case you have a different problem. Your monster isn't strong enough."
"That's where his other ability helps, because when he attacks my opponent's monster, he gains 500 ATK points."

"Blast!"
"Now to use them! Attack Evolsaur Pelta!" Driver lifted it's swords high into the sky and they glowed red. He then ran to the dinosaur monster and slashed them down causing an explosion and Tanner to wince.
"Next I'll use the quickplay spell card Malware Infection!" This card showed Malware Driver slashing down on a zombie monster. "Now when a Malware monster destroys your monster, the top card of your deck goes to the grave, and if it was Malware Driver who destroyed your monster, if the card you sent is a monster you take damage equal to its attack."
"I see. An underwhelming but affective strategy." The professor took of the top card and unfortunately for him, it was indeed a monster. He slid the monster into the graveyard slot and said, "It was the monster Evolsaur Diplo with 1600 Attack points."
"Then that's how much you lose."

"Unfortunately for you my Pelta has an ability also. Since it was special summoned by the effect of my spell when you destroyed it I can add an Evoltile monster from my deck to my hand."
"I'll end my turn there which means Driver's attack points go back down to normal, your move teach."

The crowd seemed to be pretty impressed by this turn of events with everyone commenting on Yuji's move which seemed to be making Tanner's eye twitch. 'He's making me look like an amateur!'
"Woah he got rid of that defence like it was nothing." Evalynn said in amazement, "Still nothing I couldn't have done."
'Okay, lets keep calm here everything seems to be under control.' Yuji thought to himself. 'This is for you mom; I hope I do you proud.'
"I will draw!" The professor drew his card. "Poor poor Yuji, you still have no idea do you."
"About what?"
"That by sending my monster to the grave you're helping me to win this."
"Say what?"
"First off I will activate the spell Evo-Singularity. Now I add an Evolsaur or Evoltile monster from my deck to my hand. I'll add Evoltile Megachirella."
"I will now summon Evoltile Megachirella." A small red four-legged Lizard arose and hissed at Yuji. It like it's other counterparts had clear DNA in it's tail. (ATK:0 DEF:0 LV:1)
Yuji was familiar with this monster, unlike the crowd. "What good will 0 attack points do." They were saying.
"I activate It's special ability, I sacrifice itself and discard a card to summon a Fire dinosaur monster from my deck. I select: Evolsaur Vulcano." A large blue diplodocus materialised on the field and howled. It had wings and its tail was full of DNA. (ATK:1200 DEF:1000 LV4)
"The monster you discarded was what you added to your hand on my turn wasn't it."
"You pick up fast for an amateur!" Woah. This guy really needed to chill out. "I activate Vulcano's ability to special summon an Evolsaur from the grave. Such as the monster you sent to it last turn! My Evolsaur Diplo will now rise!" The purple diplodocus now rose from the ground and howled. It too had DNA in it's tail. (ATK:1600 DEF:800 LV4)
'He's right guess I really did help him out last time, aw man, sorry mom… sis.'
"And now for the crowning move! I overlay my level four Evolsaur Vulcano and Diplo! With these two monsters I build the overlay network and Xyz summon…" A portal appeared from the ground. The two said monsters became balls of light and entered the portal causing an explosion of light. Emerging from the portal was the light blue dragon Yuji had seen before. "…Evolzar Laggia!" Its six wings spread widely, and it shrieked loudly deafening the hall for a few moments. The two balls of light surrounded the creature. (ATK: 2400 DEF:2000 RNK4)
"This complicates things." Yuji said taking a step back from the creature. "I really gotta keep my guard up."
"As if you have a choice!"
"Well he's done for." Evalynn said sitting back, "Shame, I needed a rival." The rest of the crowd all seemed to agree that Yuji had no hope now. "What a loser." "Guess having rare monsters doesn't make the duelist".
"So Yuji, are you scared of my Evolzar monster."
"More annoyed to be honest. It's like a pest. A pest which is constantly bugging you." The dragon seemed to screech at Yuji for his response and seemed eager to attack him.
"A pest eh? Well lets how well you deal with it. Laggia attack! Evolving Flames!" The DNA in the tail in Evolzar Laggia glowed bright red and then the dragon burst out blue flames from its mouth directed at Malware Driver. Yuji could only watch as his monster shattered into pixels. 'Dam it.' He thought gritting his teeth as he took damage.

"I would say that's enough punishment for now. I end my turn with a facedown card." Tanner smirked to himself. 'Even if he summons a monster Laggia will simply destroy it, and if that fails my face down will make sure I am well protected.'
"My turn, I draw." Yuji picked up a card from his deck. 'His Laggia is going to be a big setback. I need to find a way around it.'
"I activate the spell card Malware Network. Which means now I can summon a Malware monster from my deck, however I can't normal summon." A spell card materialised on the field which showed a cybernetic looking area.
'He could use that to summon something to defeat my Laggia. I must be careful.' Tanner gestured to his monster. "I activate Evolzar Laggia's special ability, now I detach two overlay units and negate and destroy the effect of your Malware Network."
"Bummer." Said Evalynn looking over the two duelists field. "He can't normal summon either because of that spell. He's effectively shut himself down."
"Never knew you were so interested in a boy." An Icelandic voice rang out from behind her. Evalynn turned around to see a very pretty brunette girl with blue eyes. Her hair was tied back into a ponytail and went down to her back, and she was wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans as well as a white blouse and a white duel disk on her arm.
"Hera! You made it!"
"Of course I did. And did you?" She remained calm as ever. Evalynn had known Hera for five years now and she was the calmest girl she'd ever met.
"Well yeah duh."
"Not really duh. From your arrogance I expected you to lose instantly."
"Shut up."
"I'm just stating facts."
"At least I can actually smile."
"I smile, you just don't always see it. So why are you watching the duel below?" She focused her eyes on the two opponents as if analysing each one.
"Well it's not everyday you get to watch a Cyberse deck."
"Cyberse? Your joking right?"
"Nope he has a whole deck of them."
"I've never heard of someone to own a Cyberse deck. They were never released."
"Seems they were made legal though, the computer recognises them."
"Then this should be interesting." The brunette sat herself down next to Evalynn and the two quietened down to watch Yuji. Speaking of Yuji, he was now smiling to yourself which didn't go unnoticed by the mentally unstable Professor.
"What's the smirk for boy?"
"For bating you out."
"WHAT!?"
"I activate the effect of Malware Network in my graveyard!"
"Huh! The graveyard!?" Was the response from the crowd and the professor.
"That's right, by banishing it from my graveyard I can summon a Cyberse monster from my graveyard. So lets all welcome back: Malware Driver!" The silver winged blue eyed swordsman re appeared. (ATK:2100 DEF:1300 LV5)
"Clever." Hera praised from the crowds.
"Woah, Hera gives compliments?" Evalynn teased next to her earning a light slap on the shoulder from the girl in question. Yuji continued with his move.
"So now, I attack Evolzar Laggia with Malware Driver. And don't forget he gains 500 ATK points.

The warrior in question had its swords glow red as it lifted them into the air preparing to strike the screeching dragon. However the professor was ready.
"I activate a trap! Its Evolutionary Bridge!" The card that flipped up showed a cyberspace with an Evoltile and Evolsaur monster glowing orange. "Now when a monster I control is targeted for an attack, I can summon an Evoltile monster from my graveyard and switch it to the attack target."
"What?"
"I summon Evoltile Gephyro." The purple lizard with a DNA tail arose from the ground and a bright light shone from Drivers eyes who turned it's head to Gephyro. Driver slashed its swords down on the small Lizard causing an explosion but the professor remained unharmed.
"You survived for now. I'll end my turn by setting one card facedown."

"But my boy, my Gephyro has an ability. When it's destroyed in battle I can special summon an Evolsaur monster from my graveyard. Such as Diplo!" The spirit of Gephyro rose from the graveyard and glowed turning into the familiar purple dinosaur. (ATK:1600 DEF:800 LV4)
"And it's special ability will now shatter your facedown." Diplo lashed its DNA tail around and destroyed the facedown card which turned out to be a mirror deflecting something off it. 'Dam it… My mirror force."
"Woah, it's a good job the professor got rid of that or he would have been in real trouble." And similar words were now being said. It seemed not many were giving Yuji a chance.
"Its hard to see how he will win now Cyberse deck or not." Said Hera turning to her friend.
"Agreed. I can't believe I thought he'd be a good rival."
"He'd still be too good for you." Hera said closing her eyes causing Evalynn to fall anime style and turn white. The professor put his hand on his duel disk and said:
"I draw!" Looking over his hand he'd come to a decision. "I summon fourth a second Evolsaur Diplo!" A second copy of the purple diplodocus appeared on the field this one on the other side of Laggia to it's counterpart. (ATK:1600 DEF:800 LV4)
"This ain't good." Yuji thought bracing himself. 'Sorry Mom… Sis.'
"Now my Laggia will attack your Driver! Evolving Flames!" Laggia gathered blue flames into its mouth and shattered driver for a second time causing Yuji to wince from the pain.

"Next my first Diplo attacks you directly!" The large dinosaur raised it's tail and launched it down on Yuji causing a large thud and to force Yuji to clutch his side in pain.
"Ouch, that's gotta hurt." Evalynn said wincing more then Yuji.

"And now the second Diplo launches it's assault! The same thing happened again only this time Yuji clutched his other side.

Yuji gasped for breath but still forced himself a smile. "I survived… He muttered.
"I think not!" Shouted Tanner reaching for his hand.
"What…"
"I activate the spell Evolzar Ascension! Now by sacrificing two monsters my Laggia gains an additional attack for each!"
"Say what!" Cried Yuji in panic.
"He's done for!" Evalynn shouts in her friend's ear causing her to wince.
The two purple dinosaurs shattered into pixels and the pixels reappeared as balls of red light which shot into Evolzar Laggia. "Be gone! Evolzar Laggia lay waste to this pathetic duelist!" Laggia gathered blue flames in it's mouth and fired it down on Yuji causing a huge explosion. The entire crowd were shocked and wandered what the end result was. However, that became apparent when the smoke cleared and Yuji was still standing and a trap showing a cybernetic explosion with dead pixels flying everywhere on his field.

The crowd were shocked. "No way…" muttered Hera. Tanner however was angry.
"How in the world did you survive that!"
"When you attack me directly whilst I have fewer then 500 LP, then I can activate the trap Malware Implosion from my hand to end the battle phase."
"Blast! It seems you have one more chance. Do not waste it on another weak move. I end my turn with a facedown card." Internally Tanner scowled. 'Blast, he knew that I would summon back Diplo to destroy a face down so he hid that trap in his hand to draw my attention. He is smart'
"Time to win this… I draw!" Yuji drew a card and smiled properly for the first time in the day. "Time to win this."
"A bold statement to make, lets see if you can back it up."
"You think he can turn this around?" Evalynn asked her friend.
"Its possible." She replied expressionless.
"I'll start by summoning Malware Hardrive!" A large warrior looking monster materialised next to Yuji. It had glowing blue eyes and a scarf covering its head like it's counterpart. It had a red cape falling freely from it's back and futuristic looking Gold and Silver armour covered its upper torso and lower body and cybernetic blue lines ran throughout. It also wielded a shield with a cybernetic embroidment on it. (ATK:1700 DEF:300 LV4)
"I use Hardrive's special ability to send Malware Retainer from my deck to the graveyard." Yuji placed a monster into the graveyard slot.
"A pointless move. I'm afraid your monster may look impressive but it is not enough to destroy my Laggia."
"I know that on it's own its not… but with this it is! I activate the spell Malware Practice. Now when I control Malware Hardrive, one monster on your field bites the dust." A spell showing Malware Hardrive attacking Utopia appeared on Yuji's field and entered Malware Hardrive as it roared and took aim at the professor's dragon.
"I thin not! I activate my facedown card: Xyz Break! When I control an Xyz monster, then I can negate your spell card's effects." Hardrive stopped glowing and Laggia screeched once again.
"Ah… He almost had him!" Evalynn looked dejected.
"Don't worry… He clearly has a plan." Hera said neutrally again.
"Theres more boy. Now my trap and your spell become Laggia's overlay units." Both cards glowed and transformed into orbs that surrounded the dragon.
"You really had to jinx him didn't you." Evalynn sighed as her friend had an anime style tick mark above her head. The professor on the other hand was in no time for jokes. 'I must be careful to use my Dragon's ability for the right time. Otherwise I may end up in a difficult situation.'
"Whilst your standing there thinking I'm going to activate the final card in my hand: Monster Reborn! So now rising from my graveyard will be Malware Retainer!" A portal opened below the two duelists and a large warrior witch lady arose from it. She was covered in a silver cloak which also went above her head. From her face all that was visible were the Malware trademark glowing blue eyes. Her hands were covered in Silver gloves and the exposed part of her cloak showed she was also wearing silver glowing armour with a belt going around the top and a knife visible from the holder. She carried a metal staff in her hand with a blue crystal on the end. (ATK:1300 DEF:1400 LV4)
'Is he planning to xyz summon straight away? Both his monsters have the same level. Hmmm I should hold off for now to see what he does with this monster, I can always negate the Xyz summon if he does plan on doing one.'
"I activate the special ability of Malware Retainer."
"Huh?" Tanner was awoken from his musings.
"Now I can send one monster on your field to your graveyard." Retainer pointed her staff at Laggia and the crystal glowed blue. Tanner stood there frowning. 'So that was his plan… send my monster to the graveyard using Retainer and then attack me directly with both to win… too bad it won't work.'
"I activate Evolzar Laggia's special ability. Now by using two overlay units I negate and destroy your monster." Laggia slashed the overlay units with its hands and gathered blue flames in it's mouth shattering retainer into pixels.
"He almost had him… If only the professor never used that trap." Evalynn frowned
"The professor is an intelligent man, he saved it for the right time."
"Your right he was always prepared."
"Your friend dueled well."
"He's not my friend."
"You almost had me there boy, but fortunately I was ready for you." Tanner laughed in a rather maniacle way.
"… But you didn't see this coming." Yuji replied calm as can be. Everyone listened carefully and the whole crowd seemed shocked. In her office far away watching the screen a women was frowning at the duel.
'Mom, sis… this is for you.' Yuji thought as Tanner finally snapped to reality.
"See what coming?... What are you talking about?"
"This! My Malware Hardrive counts as two monsters when I Xyz summon!"
"NO!"
"Yes! I overlay my level 4 Malware Hardrive!" Hardrive split into twoorbs and entered a vortex on the ground glowing a purple light. Tanner scowled inside. 'He set me up!' Yuji just continued to the amazement of the crowd.
"With this one monster I build the overlay Network and Xyz summon a monster of pure Nightmare! A Cyberse monstrosity ready to obey my will! Appear Rank 4… Number 108: Malware Encryption Coder!" The vortex exploded with energy and rising from within it came a rectangular 3D shape with cybernetic wires on it. This started to develop and unwrap into a warrior like monster. It was large with gold crested armour around its torse. The arms were muscular and were covered in a black material up until the arms which had gold plating around them. Its legs were covered by silver and black armour and were likewise very muscular. Its boots went up to just below the knee. It also had a red cape surrounding its back and covering it's shoulders seemingly hugging onto the back of it's body. There was a blue orb glowing in the chest plate and Cybernetic lines ran down connecting it. The number 108 was carved into it's shoulder almost out of view. Its face was covered with a gold mask seemingly covering half of the face completely with carved Cyberse symbols going left and on the other side a blue eye was revealing, the back half of the head however was covered by a red hood connected to the cape. In two holsters was also two very large golden swords. The monster roared in attack mode. (ATK:2500 DEF:2000 RNK4)
Now the whole crowd was cheering and rising to their feet. They'd never seen a number card before. There had been 110 of them made and only very select duelists had them. The numbers 101 through to 110 were all supposedly missing and no one knew where they went. As for the rest of the 1 through to 100 numbers… Some still weren't discovered. They were the rarest cards in the world, not even industrial Illusions knew their whereabouts.
"… I did not see this transpiring…" Was all that could come out of Tanner's mouth.
"He has a… Number…" Hera stated in disbelief.
"Incredible…" Evalynn also said admiring the number herself. Yuji soon brought everyone's attention back to reality.
"My number 108 can only be destroyed by another number so good look with that."
"But… this is a test deck… there are no numbers." Tanner cried in disbelief.
"Theres more when my Number attacks, you can not activate cards or effects until the end of the battle. There will be no escape for your dragon."
"This can't be…"
"Malware Encryption Coder will now attack Evolzar Laggia! Encryption Data Break!" The monster lifted the swords from its holsters and connected their blades together forming an x. It then jumped in the air and came down again near laggia lowering the swords in an x slash. Laggia cried out in pain as it shattered into pixels in an explosion and the professor winced at the damage.

"You destroyed my Laggia… Impossible… IMPOSSIBLE!"
"I'm not finished yet! By using an overlay unit, my Encryption Coder can attack again!"
"No… This can't be…"
"All right! He's gonna win!" Evalynn said with her smile wide.
"I don't believe it!" Hera said disbelief evident in her face. Encryption Coder just lifted it's swords once again.
"Attack him directly! Encryption Day Break!" Encryption Coder ran up to Tanner and lowered its swords in the X shape. Tanner screamed at the pain and was sent flying backwards to everyone's shock.

"No way…" Tanner layed on the ground for a minute. The whole crowd was cheering for Yuji loudly. He hadn't even arrived at the school and it seemed he was going to be popular.
"Alright Yuji! I have some competition finally!" Evalynn shouted to him to which Yuji turned around and saw her shouting a him. Her cloths looked even more ridiculous from here. She seemed to have a friend who wasn't smiling evidently finding her annoying.
"I doubt you have the skills to challenge me…" Yuji muttered which she seemed to hear somehow despite the crowd going wild cheering Yuji's name. She dropped to the ground yet again anime style to which her friend just closed her eyes and sighed.
"Yuji Kimura… Congratulations." Yuji turned around to see that Professor Tanner was now standing next to him. He took off his glasses and stroked his beard. "I apologize if I went a bit over the top, I have problems containing myself."
"How come?"
"Well I got badly injured in the pro circuit and ever since I've just been a bit unstable."
"I see…" Yuji didn't see. Was losing that bad?
"Chancellor Rhodes seems to think that if new students can face me they can face anything. And that is certainly true of your boy. I look forward to teaching you."
"You… you mean…"
"Yes my boy… You've passed the exam! Welcome to Duel Academy!"

Once per turn (Quick effect), you can detach one Xyz material from this card, this card can make a second attack this turn.

And done! That is the start of my first Yugioh fanfic. I did originally plan something else but I settled for this. So basically the main protagonist is Yuji Kimura who uses a Malware deck. This is custom made and focuses on Dark Cyberse monsters and being able to Xyz summon. I used Yuji's name off of Sci fi Fan's fanfic Yugioh ARC-V the fifth circuit's main protagonist and was inspired by his deck of Cyberse monsters but the characters aren't really similar other then that. This Yuji's deck focuses on Xyz summoning. The other three significant characters are Professor Tanner who will be one of Yuji's professor's and is a bit unhinged, Evalynn Anderson who is a rich, cringey, arrogant and goofey dressed character and probably the main female lead. We also have Hera the cool and calm Icelandic duelist who yes is very much based off of Hera Hilmar the real life actress because for some reason I always pictured her in Yugioh IDK why. Besides her appearance and nationality, this Hera is gonna be quite different from the real life version.
Anyway the only other big thing is to explain this series. It is set in duel academy on the island many years after GX. So in this series it follows on a few years after 5Ds and Zexal never takes place nor do the characters exist. It takes place a twenty years after the end of 5Ds so some characters from the other shows will appear in older forms. I may include some characters based off of Zexal characters and that will include the rival and his deck but no spoilers on that yet. His personality and life will be very different. The numbers also exist in this but we will learn more about them in the next chapter. Barians don't exist in this show either but their rank up magic spells do. And I think that's it.
