A/N:

This is the first of my Twilight fanfic series. I've created OG characters for each of the Twilight Cast characters. Briar and Lyric have their own respective books and they will be released and updated simultaneously. You can read either one first or read them at the same time. Briar's story is called "Forever."

**Lyric POV**

Lyric Michaels hated starting over at away from her friends, but she'd do anything for her sister. It was because of this fact that she was sitting in her Kia Sorrento next to her twin, Briar, dreading entering the new school. Forks High School was minuscule compared to her old school in Nashville. She glanced over at Briar and could tell she was calm and eager to begin her new adventure. She couldn't be angry at her sister. She deserved all the happiness in the world, and it wasn't fair for everything she'd endured so far. She sincerely hoped this school would be different from the last. This was because even though the kids knew about her illness, they still treated her like a pariah. Lyric was eventually treated like this as well because she went out of her way to defend her ailing sister. Out of nervousness, she fiddled with her woven pink scarf and noticed Briar pulling on her jean jacket. She hoped her nervousness wasn't rubbing off on her because she wanted the first day to be the best day. Starting over wouldn't be too bad because they were all navigating through it together. When Briar asked her if she'd support her in asking their parents to move, she didn't hesitate. Her sister wanted to live in a tiny city, far away from where they'd been. She knew she was chasing her demons and wishing they stayed away, and she genuinely hoped they did. To say their parents were surprised was an understatement, but they would do anything for Briar. Yes, they would do anything for Lyric as well, but Briar was the priority while her health was stable. Paul and Luna Michaels didn't hesitate to pause all of their business dealings and start the process of moving. They settled on Forks as a family because it was precisely what Briar wanted.

Lyric glanced down at her outfit and hoped it was okay for a first day outfit. She was wearing a white ribbed sweater, a woven pink scarf, matching pink slip-on tennis shoes, pearl stud earrings, and a rose gold anchor necklace that had a diamond ship wheel in the middle that had a dainty chain of diamonds extending on both ends. Her parents got Briar the starburst necklace telling her she was the brightest star in the family. They also gave her an anchor saying she held the family together. She and Briar never took their necklaces off. Scoffing slightly at her nerves, she slipped her hand into Briar's and squeezed, not sure if she was reassuring herself or her sister. She felt her sister return the gesture and turn towards her with a bright smile. Lyric couldn't help but smile at her sister's excitement. "Are you ready to do this?" she asked softly. Briar kept the smile on her face as she replied, "At least it's the first day of school so we shouldn't stick out too badly."

Not one to delay the inevitable, Lyric climbed out of the car at the same time as her sister did, both grabbing their packs from the back seat. As they walked towards the office, she stiffened as every eye in the parking lot stared at them. So much for not sticking out like they'd hoped. Luckily, there weren't too many people in the parking lot, just a few waiting for the day to start. When they passed a group of kids standing around a blue van, Lyric perked up. They all looked the same age. Maybe she could befriend them. She knew Briar would mostly keep to herself and usually follow her lead in social settings. As they got closer to the group, all eyes stared unashamedly at them, mostly curious. There was one girl, a brunette with her hair in a messy ponytail that looked at them with disdain. Great, a bitch on the first day was just what Lyric wanted. Choosing to ignore them all, she took Briar's hand and walked across the parking lot to the office. When they entered the dimly lit office, her senses were assaulted with the overuse of Victoria Secret's Love Spell perfume. She glanced at Briar in her peripheral and saw that she didn't seem to notice. The older lady behind the desk smiled at them as they walked up to the desk. "Well, hello girls, what can I do for you?" Lyric saw the way that Briar shrank into herself. She used to be so confident and playful, but the damn kids at their last school destroyed her confidence. Standing up straight to take charge of the situation, Lyric returned the woman's smile.

"Good morning, I'm Lyric Michaels and this is my sister, Briar. We're starting as seniors today." She saw the relieved smile that her twin gave her when she began talking. They waited patiently as the woman fished their schedules out and handed them both to her. The sad gaze she sent her sister sent slight rage down her back. Already the pity was starting with the adults. It took everything in her to not snap at the woman for her obvious behavior. Lyric took the two pieces of paper and noticed that she held out a third, which she also accepted. "Here are your schedules," the woman began. "Please have your teachers sign that so you can bring it back to me at the end of the day. This other paper is a map of the school. It's not very big so you should get the hang of it very quickly." After saying a quick thank you, Lyric grabbed her sister's hand and led her out of the small office. She gazed at their schedules and couldn't help the scowl that marred her ivory skin. Unable to control her expression, she handed Briar her schedule.

"We're only in two classes together," she complained. "We get lunch and gym together and that's it." She saw her sister's disappointment immediately. She knew she was trying to make her feel better when she nodded at her and smiled softly. "Don't worry about me, Ly, I'll be okay." Briar said softly, comforting her. "It looks like I'm in mostly AP classes anyway." She knew she was pouting, and she wanted her sister to have the best day. So, mustering all of the positive vibes she could, she looped their arms together and grinned at her. "Well, I can at least walk you to your first class."

The two of them began searching for her class which was a basic 6. They'd made it about halfway down the hallway when a cute Asian boy with pretty eyes and black hair appeared next to them. "Hey there ladies!" He exclaimed as he smiled brightly at them. "I'm Eric, and I'm your welcome wagon. Can I help you find your classes?" Lyric saw her sister look over her shoulder and practically shrink away from the attention he called to them. She felt her arm slip away from hers and tried her best not to laugh at the expression on her face. "That's okay, my class is right there, but thank you." Briar said in a panicked voice as she disappeared into her classroom. Lyric turned to face Eric with a smile and shrugged her shoulders. He was super cute, so who was she to say no? "I wouldn't mind the help, honestly." Lyric said flirtatiously. "I'm looking for Room 9, World History." She watched as his face lit up at her words. "That's great!" He almost yelled. "That's my first class of the day too. Follow me." She walked next to him down the hall and passed her sister's classroom. When they got to the room, it was already mostly full, but Eric placed a soft hand on her arm with a smile. "Go get your form signed and I'll save you a seat." Lyric beamed at him, making his cheeks flush. "Thank you, Eric. I really appreciate you helping me out today." He just nodded as he turned to find two seats together. Lyric walked over to the teacher and held out her form with a small hello. He dismissed her immediately after, only telling her to find an open seat. She turned to the classroom and found Eric waving her over.

She was extremely grateful that the kids were actually being nice to her. Eric was sitting next to three other kids, but the seat directly in front of him was free, which she sank into. Eric grinned as he introduced her to his friends. "Lyric, these are my friends Angela, Tyler, and Lauren." He said as he pointed out each person as he introduced them. "Guys, this is Lyric Michaels." Lyric raised an eyebrow at him but smiled sneakily. "How did you know which one I was?" She asked curiously. "Technically my sister and I never introduced ourselves." The pink in Eric's cheeks only intensified at her question, causing his friends to snicker. "I saw it on your schedule when I was next to you." He answered honestly. Lyric chuckled softly, not wanting him to feel uncomfortable. "I am just teasing you, Eric." She said kindly. She couldn't say anything else because the teacher called the class to attention.

The history class wasn't going to be terrible. As she looked at the syllabus, she realized she'd already covered most of it at her previous school. It seemed that Forks was a bit behind in the regular courses because she learned this in her junior year in Nashville. When the class was over, the five of them headed out into the hallway. She found that she really liked Angela right away. She was a calming presence and just seemed to be inherently kind. Her next class was English, which she was happy to discover that Angela had next as well. As they walked down the hall, she turned to see her sister making a beeline for her. Lyric couldn't help but smile brightly at her. She was happy to see the smile on her face. "Hey B! How was your English class?" She saw the breath that Briar released, causing her to frown. Her twin saw this reaction and shook her head as she glanced at the other students near them. Lyric wanted to introduce her, but she didn't have the opportunity. "It was okay, but the end was super awkward." She said vaguely. She watched as she leaned closer to Eric, deepening her frown because this wasn't how her sister normally acted. "Hello again, Eric. Sorry I practically ran away this morning. I was overwhelmed." She explained to him. "Would you mind pointing me in the direction of building C?" Lyric watched as Eric's face brightened as he stared at her sister. Lyric sighed internally at herself and realized that he'd just been nice to her. Granted it was the first day and she didn't need to try and find boyfriend material anyway. They were only here for a year before college. She watched as they both waved and said goodbye to her, but then disappeared quickly down the hall. Angela grabbed her attention, causing the smile to return to Lyric's face as they began walking towards their class, the very class that her sister had just been in.

When she walked into Mr. Berty's classroom, she walked over to him and handed him her form. He did a double take when he saw her and grinned. "I had your sister in my last class, Ms. Michaels. You two sure look alike." Lyric didn't respond to his observation, just thanked him for the form and sank into the seat next to Angela. As they waited for class to start, the girl leaned over to her. "Don't take Eric's dismissal too hard, Lyric." She said kindly. "He's always been fascinated with new students. We had another new student last year, Bella, and he and the other boys were obsessed. He and I went to prom together last year, but it was obvious he wanted to be with her." Lyric frowned at her words as she looked at her new friend and scoffed. "Angela, you're a total babe!" she exclaimed. "If he couldn't see what he had in front of him, then it's definitely his loss." She watched as the girl smiled to herself and blushed. Before she could say anything, two boys came bounding into the room hurriedly. One boy smiled brightly at Angela and kissed her cheek. "Angela, babe! I was waiting for you!" Angela giggled at the interaction and motioned to Lyric. "I'm sorry sweetie," she said. "I was showing Lyric where to go. Lyric, this is my boyfriend, Ben and his best friend, Austin. Guys this is Lyric Michaels, she and her sister just moved to Forks." Both boys greeted her enthusiastically and she couldn't help but giggle at their antics before they were all called to order by Mr. Berty.

The class was also going to be easy for her. They were reading Shakespeare and though she wasn't a fan, Briar loved his stories. When the class ended, they all gathered their things and headed to the cafeteria for lunch. Angela waved at her and went to find a table as she'd brought her lunch that day. Lyric didn't mind buying her lunch, but she knew Briar would be upset that their mother hadn't packed her lunch like she always did for Briar. She knew her mother was trying to manage. She also understood that her mom just wanted her to have the freedom to be normal instead of being micromanaged like her sister had to be. She was moving in line normally when her sister's voice sounded beside her, causing her to jump. "You didn't bring your lunch today?" Lyric fake glared at her sister for a moment before answering. "B, you know I hate it when you sneak up on me like that!" She watched as she smiled innocently at her, pleased that she'd successfully scared her. Shaking her head, she couldn't help the slight dip in her expression as she leaned over to speak softly. "Mom forgot to make my lunch last night and handed me twenty dollars this morning." She watched her sister frown and become upset like she knew she would. "You can share mine, Ly, you don't have to eat school food if you don't want to." Lyric almost scoffed at the suggestion. Her sister barely ate anything as it was. There was no way she could take what little she had with her. "Absolutely not, B." She said firmly. "You barely eat as it is, so you need your lunch. You can find us a table and I'll meet you there. I'll grab you a water while I'm in there, okay?" She watched as Briar's shoulders sagged but she nodded in agreement.

Getting through the line took more time than she would have liked. Unlike her last school, who only gave them thirty minutes to pick up food and eat, Forks gave them fifty minutes. She assumed this was to buffer the time it took to actually get their food from the line. Once she was in the line, she grabbed a tray and scrunched her nose at the offerings. Pizza was the decision because whatever meat was sitting on the other side wasn't something she wanted to try. She grabbed some fruit, a cookie, and two bottles of water before walking to the cashier. When she walked out of the small alcove where the food line was, she scanned the room and found her sister sitting with a tiny girl with fairy-like features. She went over to the table and placed her tray down next to Briar with her eyebrows raised. Her sister was actually smiling brightly and speaking animatedly with this girl, and it was so unlike her, especially on the first day of school. She watched as Briar smiled up at her and pushed the seat next to her out for her, which she sank into gratefully.

Lyric pushed one of the water bottles over to her sister. She frowned slightly when she noticed that she had yet to pull her lunch out. "B, I know you don't have much of an appetite, but please try to eat some of it." She was shocked when Briar rolled her eyes at her before pulling her bento box out of her bag. She knew that she didn't have much of a stomach for certain foods or food in general because of the medications she was on. She was envious of the vegetables she saw in her box but remained silent. The only green in the cafeteria was jello, which was simply not acceptable. A few minutes later, two boys arrived at their table wearing identical smiles. Lyric was struck by their beauty and how alike they looked to each other. They must be siblings, she thought. The one boy sitting across from Briar was tall, had pale, flawless skin with a head full of bronze hair. She smiled softly to herself when she noticed the way he kept staring at her sister. Her gaze paused when it landed on the boy directly in front of her. He was also tall, maybe taller than the other one, skin just like the other two with chin-length curly blonde hair. He was absolutely gorgeous, and she felt a weird sensation in her chest as she looked at him. She noticed the redhead's mouth quirk at her scrutiny, so she hastily put her eyes back on her plate. She felt her sister turn in her seat towards her, so she expected her voice.

"Lyric, these are the Cullens." She began. "This is Alice, Edward, and Jasper." Lyric smiled at all three of them, extremely proud of how outgoing her sister behaved. Before she could respond, Alice spoke up and leaned forward. "Hi Lyric, it's so nice to meet you! Jasper's last name is actually Hale. We're all adopted, and Jasper is our newest member, so he and his sister wanted to keep their last names." She watched as Briar flushed at the mistake she'd made, but saw that Alice patted her back to reassure her. She decided right then that she liked Alice because she made her sister comfortable, and she desperately wanted her to have friends. When she saw the face Briar made when she looked back at her food, Lyric gently grabbed the strawberry Ensure drink their mother included and twisted the cap off, sitting it in front of her. "B, just drink this okay? Please finish it, you need protein." Realizing she may not have spoken as softly as she'd intended, she watched as Briar kept her head down and nodded before picking the drink up. Lyric mentally scolded herself for being an idiot. She hated embarrassing her sister, especially in front of her newly acquired friends. Wanting to help, she grabbed the bento box in front of her sister, closed it, and placed it back in her bag for her. She was also extremely happy when she noticed Briar put the empty carton back on the table, indicating she'd drank the whole thing.

She couldn't stop the bright smile it caused because her sister rarely finished a meal or a shake. It always caused them all to worry. She leaned over again when she realized she had yet to pull her pill case out. "Don't forget to take your medicine, you need to take it with food." She tried to say this as quietly as possible, but it seemed that the three onlookers still heard her as they watched them curiously. Her eyes landed on Jasper's once more and she was struck by how easy it was for him to keep her gaze. She felt her cheeks heat up as she looked down and silently cursed. She never got flustered by a stupid boy. What the heck was going on? She watched as her sister popped the pills into her mouth and swallowed them down with the water, she'd given her. Lyric quickly finished her pizza and a few pieces of fruit before breaking the cookie in half and handing one piece to her sister. She watched as Briar's face lit up at the idea of chocolate and hoped it didn't make her sick. Soon after that, the bell rang, making her frown slightly. She hadn't been able to converse at all with the others because she was so worried about her sister. As they stood up, she froze when she heard the sound of Jasper's voice for the first time. It was deep, yet melodic, and he had a hint of a southern twang. "What class do the two of you have next?" Lyric couldn't help but give him her best smile, he was just so pretty. She heard her sister snicker next to her to which she playfully swatted her leg. "B and I have gym now, it's the only class we have together."

Lyric was amused when Alice clapped her hands and bounced on her feet in excitement. "Yay!" She yelled in a squeaky voice. "We all have gym together!" Lyric grinned at the girl's excitement and followed the three of them next to her sister toward the gymnasium. She knew Briar was dreading this class the most because she had a doctor's note excusing her from all physical exertion. While their three new friends walked over to the table filled with uniforms, she and Briar walked over to the coach and handed them their forms. He signed Lyric's form first and told her to hurry and get a uniform. She hated leaving her sister, but she didn't want to get into trouble on the first day. She picked up the red shorts and white t-shirt before heading towards the locker room to change. She was very surprised when Briar came in after her and dressed as well. She explained that the coach wanted her to change every day and participate in activities that were low impact. Her sister's excitement completely diminished when they headed back out and the volleyball nets were out. She watched as her sister walked to the bleachers dejectedly and sat down. She ended up on a team with Alice and Jasper while Eric and Edward were on the other side. She wasn't very skilled at sports because most of her free time was spent taking care of her sister. While they waited for Edward's side to serve, she heard Jasper's voice next to her. "How are you liking Forks so far?" He asked conversationally. To her utter embarrassment, she felt her cheeks flame again, but she refused to acknowledge it as she answered.

"It is definitely different from Nashville, that's for sure." She replied. "Still, I think I like the pace of this school better. The kids at our last school weren't very kind to us." She watched as his handsome face was marred with a frown at her words. She shrugged. "Everyone here has been extremely pleasant except for the one brunette over there that keeps glaring at the two of us." Jasper followed her line of sight and watched as his frown turned into a scowl. "Don't worry about her," he said simply. "That's just Bella and she is completely obsessed with Edward." They couldn't talk anymore as play resumed and she found herself actually having fun. Jasper went out of his way to help her, but that caused him to accidentally bump into her to save her from being smacked with the ball. She would have fallen if his strong, yet gentle hands hadn't caught her shoulders. He looked at her in concern as he quickly removed his hands. "Are you okay?" he asked worriedly. "I'm sorry about that, I didn't mean to push you." Lyric smiled prettily at him causing him to gulp which she loved. "I'm okay, Jasper. Thank you for catching me and saving me from the ball." She found it adorable that she'd rendered this gorgeous boy speechless. He simply nodded at her and turned back to the game. However, she noticed that he kept stealing glances at her, causing her to giggle to herself.

After their riveting game ended, they all jogged to the locker room to change quickly so they could go to their last class of the day. Her last class was Spanish, and it was the class she dreaded the most. They all gathered in the main area of the gym right when she heard Edward say "Wow, we have all the same classes this semester." She saw her sister bite her lip and blush profusely and it warmed her heart to see her worry about a boy instead of her health. Alice spoke up next to her with a chuckle. "You two better leave so you can get a table together," she said. "You know Bella will try and sit with you if you don't." Lyric was fascinated by Edward's reaction to the other girl's name. Lyric couldn't help the chuckle that left her mouth as she spoke up. "What is her deal anyway?" she asked. "Eric told me she was a total bitch to my sister. I'd hate to have to kick someone's ass on the first day of school." Her sister laughed nervously, and Jasper chuckled softly beside her. It was her sister who broke the silence, worried she would make good on her words. "Lyric! You can't get into fights, you promised mom and dad!" Lyric shrugged at her, not phased. "No one messes with my sister." She told Briar, who shook her head at her, partially in amusement. She watched as her sister turned to Edward, her cheeks a permanent shade of pink. "Should we head out?" She asked him. "I don't want to be late." The two of them said goodbye to the rest of them and Jasper and Alice faced her. "What class do you have next?" Alice asked politely. When she bemoaned the fact that she had Spanish for the last class of the day, Alice chuckled and nudged Jasper with her elbow. He held out his arm to her, causing her to bite her lip like Briar had done as he spoke to her softly. "That's my class as well, shall we?"

Jasper led her to the left of the school to building D, next to the class her sister had gone to earlier in the day. She kept her hand loose on his arm, but she could feel how cold his skin was through his sweater. She didn't mention it, she was just shocked at the fact he was being so polite to her. They walked in comfortable silence until they reached the doorway of Mr. Esposito's classroom. She dropped her arm from his and smiled up at him. "Thank you for walking with me, Jasper." He dipped his head slightly and gave her a small smile of his own. "You're welcome, ma'am." He said with his southern accent peeking out. "Would you like to sit with me? I can save you a seat while you get your form signed." She couldn't answer him for fear of her voice squeaking so she just nodded, causing him to smile again. She kept feeling a pulling sensation in her chest and it exploded into tingles as she held his arm. She chalked it up to nerves as she walked over to Mr. Esposito who was distracted and signed her form. She took her seat next to Jasper in the back and watched as Eric walked in and sank into the seat next to hers. Jasper stiffened slightly but didn't say anything as Eric greeted her.

"Great game today, Lyric." Lyric laughed at his words and shook her head. "I don't know how to respond to that, Eric." She chuckled. "If it wasn't for Jasper, I'd have been sent to the nurse's office several times during that game." She felt Jasper relax next to her at her words and realized she had touched his arm when she'd said his name. She glanced over at him, removed her hand, and smiled brightly at him. When his eyes met hers, the tingling sensation increased tenfold, and she had difficulty looking away. Jasper just smiled at her and finally broke eye contact when the teacher called the class to order. Spanish was going to be a difficult subject for her. She'd failed it once before and needed to pass it this year if she wanted to graduate and not be sent to summer school. She felt Jasper lean down and whisper in her ear. "You seem nervous," he began. "I actually already know Spanish fluently, so I can tutor you if you need." Lyric bit her lip once more and turned to face him only to realize how close their faces were. Her breath hitched slightly at the close proximity, but Jasper didn't move away like she'd expected. She looked up into his beautiful amber eyes and spoke as softly as she could. "Thank you, Jasper, I'd really appreciate that." She watched as his eyes dipped towards her lips before he chuckled and leaned back into his seat, the teacher completely unaware of what had transpired. She wasn't crazy, was she? He looked like he wanted to kiss her, and she definitely wouldn't have objected.

When the last bell of the day sounded, Lyric sighed gratefully. The teacher spoke only in Spanish because it was a senior level class and she'd only caught maybe every fourth word he'd spoken. Jasper held his arm out to her again, which she didn't hesitate to accept. As they walked to the parking lot she started talking excitedly. "Today was actually a really good day if you don't count that disastrous last class." She watched as a bemused expression crossed his face. "I really hope you meant what you said about tutoring me because I didn't understand anything that man was saying in there." He was saved from answering when they stopped next to Edward and Briar, with Alice in front of them. She noticed the bright expression she had as she looked at the two of them. Lyric realized her arm was still hooked on Jasper's. Blushing in embarrassment, she hastily let him go and moved to stand next to her sister. Alice bounced on the balls of her feet as she looked between the two girls. "I hope you guys enjoy shopping. I'd really love a girl's day soon. We can invite our sister, Rosalie, to come along." Lyric heard Edward's disbelieving snort at that statement but chose to ignore it. They both smiled brightly at the pixie because both of them dearly loved shopping but rarely got to because of Briar's illness. They said goodbye to the three Cullens and headed towards their car. She extended the keys to her sister to see if she wanted to drive, but she just shook her head and slid into the passenger side. Lyric shrugged and climbed into the driver's seat, starting the car, and heading towards home. When they arrived at their house, their parents ran outside in a mixture of worry and excitement. She watched as her father's eyes scanned Briar before landing on her with a bright smile. She was definitely daddy's girl, and she wasn't ashamed to admit it. She watched as her dad chuckled at the two of them, both radiating excitement. "You two look like you had a great day." Lyric was delighted when her sister nodded with a huge smile on her face and said, "We had a great day, daddy."
