Mizuki had been a nothing his entire life. Denied access to healer training since he wasn't a bender, forced to work a job at a local library at the age of six to survive, only having two friends in Mako and Bolin and even then sort of barely... he really felt like nothing for as long as he had been alive. His only solace was reading, the books of his local library filled his very soul with peace. He read on everything but his favorite subject were the Air Nomads! Nothing was as interesting as the barely alive people who's last surviving members saved the world from the Hundred Year war.
He read on them almost daily, learning and aspiring to their vegetarian lifestyle, appreciating the basics of their combat style, learning about the spirits themselves! It was a daily task to meditate like they did, to find the peace they managed.
So, naturally, it was on his fifteenth birthday on his way to help the Fire Ferrets as a healer, that things took a terrible turn. He was feeling somewhat better about his life, happy to have some extra cash and just generally feeling peachy, when someone shoved into him. He almost collided into a wall, turning sharply and saw his assailant. A man with a knife looking at him coldly.
"Give my your cash!" The man lunged forward, crazed and desperate.
Something burned in Mizuki's chest, and before he could stop it, he panicked and threw out his hands. Air, pure and powerful, blasted out and slammed into the man. he flew back, slamming into the alley wall with so much force something cracked. As he collapsed, the uncaring Mizuki looked at his hands.
"How?" Focusing on the fear he just felt, he threw out his hands, and was stunned when he was pushed back by a blast of air. "Grandma Kanade was from... she married a man from the Fire nation, but no one knew where she was from. Maybe she was an airbender? That would fit in the timeline...I need to go..."
And so he rushed away, hurrying to the Fire Ferrets... never noticing the trail of heat emanating from his hands, the tremor of the earth around him or the scent of rain so thickly filling the air...
