They called themselves ȋ̶̢̩̅ɿ̶͓̏̆ʏ̵̨́͝ʜ̵̼͋q̶͉̬̕ɘ̸̦͝Ƹ̵̗̉͌.
We called them friends.
They came from another world, one which we had seen but never spared a second glance. We were not so curious in those days. They arrived on our world in carapaces of shining metals, in skins that were not their own, to protect them from what was, to them, a brutal and life-extinguishing cold. And that sparked something new in us. A desire to… learn. Learn about people who were not like us, and worlds on which we could never tread.
They were as astonished as we were, when they stumbled on our home by accident. They were trying to escape a flensing wind. They had not seen the warning signs, or if they had, they did not know how to interpret them. We welcomed them. And from that tentative first meeting grew joy, and relief from a loneliness we had not known before that day. Because we were no longer alone.
You are so very like them.
We can only hope you will not make the same mistakes they did.
