A good sleep was the reward for someone's long and hard day, something that Rocky was very much looking forward to. However there just stood something in his way from getting it, it wasn't Marshall spraying him with his water cannon, it wasn't a random loud noise from outside the lookout that would have made anyone go inside. It was in fact his own.
Rocky laid back in his cushioned pad, A Sheet coving covering over his doggish body with his head faced straight up. Slowly breathing in and out as his body was still but his mind was having a civil war.
'Dude you should totally go talk to her'
"No I can't do that she'll break me like a twig, I got to wait until the right time" Rocky whispered to his own mind, from a third person he would be perceived as lonely, crazy, or both.
'We can't wait, She'll be gone in a week when you finish the rocket, You need to make your move'
"What do I say?"
'I dunno I'm just your subconscious, Not a pickup artist'
Rocky groaned, smashing both of his paws against his eye lids in exhaustion. Losing a debate against himself in end only to sigh and seek a second opinion. Getting up from his comfort and exiting his room get this off his chest before he'll never get any shut eye.
Walking out into the open lounge of the lookout, Semi Dark as no lights were in obviously as every other occupant was fast as well, Rocky stepping over to the large panels of glass that acted as the Lookout's walls. Looking through to see Adventure Bay down the Hill, briefly passing by the Windows after in search of one of his friends to talk to.
Unbeknownst to him after leaving the window, A Rope suddenly shoots up from the bottom of the Lookout right up to the very top. Within moments, A Familiar Orange Feline was seen. Over his eyes a pair of Night vision Goggles.
Slowly observing all possible movement inside the sprawl of the Lookout before making his silent move to infiltrate. Retracting a single talon from his paw and carving himself a little entrance for himself. Cutting in the shape for a small box perfectly.
Jumping in after, catching the small square shape of glass he had just cut and placing it gently on the floor. "Special Agent Pebbles, I've made entry" He whispered with a tap of his communications device set in his ear.
"Excellent now find the place where they keep their equipment and wiretap one of them, Audio recordings are what we need for this Investigation. According to the schematics the Equipment should be stored somewhere below"
"Roger that" Pebbles responded, leaping and ducking behind furniture to do his best to not be seen. The Night aiding his as from a distance he would only be seen as a small inanimate object however only time would tell whether he was as good as his father or not.
Meanwhile, Rocky breathed a sigh of nervousness before knocking on the room door of one of his friends. Three singular knocks as before Rocky sat himself right at the door for a response, within moments the doorknob twisted and unveiled to be Skye. There didn't need to be sunlight to see Skye was as tired as a bat.
"Yes?" Skye asked, rubbing her eyes with her paws to try and see straight after just being awoken. "Hey Skye, Hows it hanging?" Rocky casually asked with a smile to try and lightened the unamused cockapoo. Skye starred backed with no slight glee, just mild frustration.
"Rocky, what do you want, Its two in the morning" Skye questioned once more, Rocky in response rattled his head slowly and slightly up and down in understanding. Looking back at the aviation canine except with a more serious face.
"Okay Okay, I need to ask you something important. So, l has this friend right, He like into machines…. but not me though. A-And he likes this girl, she's like tough but she's very nice, and sweet and but she doesn't like to show it"
"Uh huh, go on"
"So like…. How do I tell him how to tell the girl that he likes her in a special way because she might say no"
"So…This friend of yours wants to confess to a tough girl but she's nice on the inside?"
"Yeah that's it, So how do I….I MEAN HE, How does HE confess to her like a really in a special way to bring out her nice side?"
"I guess getting something like flowers is too much but then again would…..Wait, Hold on a second" Skye perked, her tail began to wag suddenly as he mind started to tick and twine and the continuous thought of his question.
Skye smiled as she looked up at the mixed breed, thinking she had the whole equation already figured out by now. "I know what you're talking about" Skye said. "W-What, N-No you don't" Rocky stuttered with a flushed face.
Faintly shaking in fear from the cockapoo's growing knowledge of the circumstances. "Hold on Skye, Th-This isn't what you think, I promise" Rocky begged and pleaded and tried to assure her that whatever she was thinking, she was far from the truth.
"Its okay Rocky, your secret is totally safe with me. I just can't believe it's true after all, Chase really likes me" Skye squealed at the thought.
"I'm being serious, you can't tell…Wait did you just say Chase?" Rocky caught the name from Skye's fake realization. "Of course, it's so obvious. Chase was scared to confess to me, so he asked you for advice on what to do so you decided to ask me"
Rocky kissed his teeth whilst softly rocking himself back and forth trying to come up with a polite and easy way to tell the cockapoo that she had it all wrong. "Well actually Skye, Chase didn't actually-"
"No words Rocky, I don't want you to spoil anything else for. I can't wait until tomorrow morning, He thinks he gonna have the surprise on me; but jokes on him, Goodnight Rocky" Skye concluded with her moment of bliss in her mind, closing the door on Rocky.
Rocky unseen by the Skye throwing up his paw to stop and get her attention but it was already too later. Rocky slammed his head against the wall behind him and groaned knowing the deed had just done. "Ughhh, I'm so sorry Chase, I screwed up"
Turning himself around, letting his back contact with the wall instead and bringing his head up to the ceiling. "I guess I'm gonna need a guy's opinion on this then" Rocky sighed, turning tail and walking away to another one of his friends.
Meanwhile below in another floor, Pebbles snuck around silent moving through and through each corner. Peaking his head around before stepping through as per his training. Sticking close to the wall and searching his surroundings.
Slowly etching himself against the walls, Silent and surely deadly as he clutched his Silenced Pistol in one paw. Peaking his head around through an open door, it was dark but there were no chances he was willing to take. Jumping into the room, Rolling on the carpet in a combat roll formation. Rolling onto his paws and extending his pistol outwards.
Scanning the room for any threat that moved, looking from corner to corner before concluding he was clear to look around. Eying across the room and its details for him to relay back. "Im on the ground floor"
"Look around, it's gotta be somewhere around there somewhere. Hurry up"
"I'm looking geez, Easy for you to say when you're all the way back in Washington in a fancy office with air conditioning watching over me like I'm some sort of kitten" Pebbles whispered back to his agent in his ear. "Tell you what, When you start prioritizing your mission over some dumb puppets on a street corner, then we'll talk on that" He stated, taking jab at Pebble's maturity and lack of an adult attitude.
"It was actually puppets made out of balloons" Pebbles weakly defended, absolutely not helping his case if he was in a court of law.
"I don't care Pebbles, Just find the damn equipment already" He said, The Feline could basically hear his gritting teeth from over the communication line. Rolling his eyes as he looked all over the room before discovering the sets of pup-packs reserved for Paw Patrol next morning.
"Jackpot, I found it" He stated, eying the array of each member's packs hung up on racks.
"Good, I recommend wiring up the Green one's pack, He seems to be more in touch with Laika so you should get a lot of recording from his talks with her" He stated, Pebbles has had enough to training to realize that a recommendation is basically a command.
Nudging his own head as he reaching in and slipped the wire inside the weaves of the green vest that would wrap around the mixed breed. Stepping back to admire how noticeable it was would look in the end. Shrugging his head in the end as he walked away with confident and accomplishment.
"Mission Accomplished, Leaving the area now" Pebbles said with a swag in his step. Making his way up to where he came in.
Walking through into the open lounge of the Lookout before all of sudden seeing two canine figures pass right by him. Just a few feet away from him.
Fortunately, the two were didn't think to look to their side to see the suspicious feline that scoured the Lookout without notice.
"Thanks for willing to talk about it so late at night by the way" Rocky thanked patting his friend on the back before the two sat down at the kitchen counter.
"No problemo dude, not to toot my own horn or anything but I'm pretty much an expert on this romance thing" Marshall replied with a cool breeze.
"Really, so have you told Everest how you feel yet then?" Rocky asked looking back at Marshall who stood a bit crestfallen.
"W-Well yeah, but no…. Last week we hugged for like 3 seconds longer than usually, so I'm pretty sure she likes me" The Dalmation boldly claimed as the mixed breed just rolled his eyes.
"Whatever, so can you help me or not?"
"Yeah of course, I just need to know the details of who this so I can help" Marshall request, seeing Rocky's ears perk down from starter embarrassment just from thinking of it.
"C-Cant you just give me some tips without knowing?"
"No can-do dude, It's all about first impressions and you gotta make a killer first impression. A first impression so good that she'll want to marry you on the spot" Marshall leaned into the mixed breed, fur to fur as Rocky tried to avoid eye contact.
Marshall looking back to see his friend still unwilling to give up the name. "Oh c'mon, you can tell me, It's not like anyone else is in this room" Marshall exclaimed.
Oblivious to the Orange feline that eyed the twos conversation from across the room, using the night's darkness as his cover. There was no information that Pebble really needed from the two, but a little eavesdropping from time to time never hurt the agent.
"Swear you won't tell?"
"Swear by the pup treat gods in the sky" Marshall held his paw in the half mast like it was some sacred oath to the nation.
"Okay, come closer" Rocky insisted, seeing the Dalmation creep forward in an eager way. Pebble's seeing his moment to make his exit dashing for the whole he came through.
Running at max speed but careful not to trip or make a single sound or else. "DUDE!" Marshall shouted suddenly, scaring the Feline making him freeze suddenly with his heart pounded. "Shush, don't you dare tell anyone" Rocky threatened viciously tapping Marshal by his chest fur. "I won't I promise, But I do have a bit of a starter idea for you" Marshall mentioned, bringing the mixed breed in for a silent whisper.
Come morning, it was like clockwork. Everyone minded their own business apart from a separate few that took it upon themselves to help other. Rocky, who walked outside with a plate of assorted with all different kinds of breakfast friendly foods.
It was no secret that Laika wasn't the biggest fan of sweet things, in particular so called 'fatty American things. However, she did like pizza, so it was always up in the air.
Rocky walked along side the Lookout with the breakfast food for the canine cosmonaut. Taking several deep breathes as he approached Laika's first space craft now made as her temporary home.
From a distance away, The cat from last night and his midnight raid. Stood hidden from the innards of a tall tree. Spying Rocky with a pair of Binoculars. Ready to listen in on his every word when talking to Laika.
Holding a small black box in his feline paw that blinked green and red with an assortment of dials of buttons. "Agent Pebbles reporting in, I'm about to get the audio" he said into his earpiece.
"Listen in to every word, do not fail on this" The agent responded. Rocky turning the corner around the lookout to see Laika laying right by her home dome, to his surprise to see her already eating something.
"Ummm Morning Laika, Whatcha eating?" Rocky asked to see Laika lift her muzzle up in surprise.
"Good morning, just enjoying some fresh fish from the river nearby" She stated with a shark faced smile.
"I didn't know you can fish"
"I can't"
"So how did you get the fish?"
"I just jumped in and grabbed it with my teeth" Laika responded getting a bit of weird reacting from Rocky.
"Ooookay then, Well I made this breakfast for you. Topped with Pancakes, Eggs and everything" Rocky pointed out, tilting the plate slightly to Laika to show her.
"Oh, Спасибо (Thank you) but I'm not that much of sweets person, but I appreciate that thought" Laika said, trying not to fully turn down Rocky kind act.
"Oh, you're welcome, its okay" Rocky shrugged with a smile as if he wasn't beating himself up inside.
'Stupid Stupid Stupid, of course she doesn't like sweet things that much, such an idiot' Rocky subconscious shouted, just beating the dead horse at this point.
"You wanna sit with me though, a bit lonely out here" Laika offered patting the patch of grass right next to here, the proposal sounding music to his ears.
"And I see you also understood me when I said Thank you" Laika commented as she looked back at the fellow mixed breed with an impressed feeling. "Well, you know I've been reading here and there, Picked up a few words" Rocky replied, shrugging off.
"Well you are a smart dog, Lets see what other words you know" She implied as the two got the eating and chatting away. Meanwhile, A distraught Pebbles freaking out over the conversation that he couldn't here.
He was certain they were talking, but no audio was coming through. "What the actual fuck, what kind shitty wires are you guys at the HQ giving me?" He frustratingly said over his earpiece, shouting back at the agent on the other end back at Langley.
"Impossible, There must be some mistake you made implanting the wire" The agent responded, defending the integrity and reliability of the CIA's spy ware. Suddenly being shushed by Pebbles as he began to fiddle with the black communications device in his paw. "Hold on, Im getting something" he said, twisting dials as he heard static of broken words coming through.
"H-H-y Zuma, Pass the ball over here!" Pebbles heard clearly over the communications device, looking perplexed as he looked through the Binoculars back at Rocky and Laika were just sitting down, peacefully talking and about the unknown. No radical movement of shouting or anything.
"What the hell?" Pebbles commented twisted his head as he is listening back into the small audio interceptor. "What's the problem, did you figure it out?" The supervising agent asked.
"I guess, but something doesn't seem right…and the voice is different too" Pebbles commented looking back at two mixed breeds laughing and coursing with each other. Suddenly the tree Pebbles stationed himself in shook, leaves brushing back and forth and against each other. Pebbles grappling his claws into the bark of the tree in sudden fear and surprise.
Looking down to see a small football had slammed into the tree and stayed stationary in the shade under. "I'll get it!" Pebbles heard on the communications box right beside him, Hearing the rapid movement of who ever it was running through the grass until Pebbles finally seeing his mistake.
Marshall running up the checkered football to pick it back and carry it back over to the rest of his friends. Pebbles letting it sink in as he slowly tapped his earpiece to relay what happened. "So ummm, don't get mad, But I may have accidentally placed the wire on the wrong person"
"You incompetent, brainless, sack of orange fur. How can you honestly place it on the wrong person's pack?!"
"It was really dark, it was hard to tell"
"Well, this is your problem and you're going to have to fix it, Just like your dad would have done. Get that audio any way you can, Do NOT fail this time" He replied, cutting the communication line. Not wanting to deal with the constant failure of this cat.
Adding salt to wound as he compared him to his father. Pebbles slumped down throwing his back against the bark of the tree, looking up at the leaves he could basically reach out and touch. Contemplating whether being a special agent was really something he was thriving at or just barely getting by.
"I can fix this" Pebbles didn't say to his fellow agent in his earpiece whether he could hear him or not, it was said to himself. He could prove he was just as good as his dad and just as creative and loyal.
