Chapter 5:
Anakin had left the atmosphere of Yavin IV, he along with R2 set a course for the Hoth system. He had volunteered to go along on this scouting mission for numerous reasons: he didn't like to feel useless, he was getting sick of the Yavin temple and he could take a break from his family drama with Luke. Without knowing Luke long he already lived him to bits, he was his future son, but he had to act like brothers. Anakin enjoyed having family that was similar to him, that wasn't a luxury he had before time travel.
Anakin's Y-Wing entered the cold space above Yavin, Anakin set the hyperspace coordinates before entering light speed. Anakin and R2 would sit in silence for hours, they were glad to be in each others company, but didn't feel the need to talk.
The Y-Wing came out of hyperspace, in front of them stood the ice planet of Hoth.
"Are you ready R2?" Anakin smirked, he took the ship into a nosedive towards the planet. It didn't take long for them to enter the atmosphere, immediately Anakin was hit with the icy cold air, even within the cockpit.
Anakin used his homing beacon to pick up on any magnetic frequencies, this would prove useful as it shows where the ion cannon should be. After an hour of searching he finally found it, a 50ft cannon on top of a gargantuan cave. The ion cannon had seen better days, but it wasn't anything a couple of mechanics could fix.
"There it is, now where's that shield generator?" Anakin said to himself, R2 gave a couple of whistles about the cave.
"I know R2, there probably will be some wildlife"
It took less than a minute for Anakin to spot the shield generator, it was only a mile out from the cave. However it was completely frozen over, if the rebels wanted to use this as a base it would take some time. This was a long term solution, but they needed a short term.
"R2, scan the outer rim planets for Imperial occupation" R2 obliged and began searching through imperial records.
Anakin directed the bomber towards the cave, ice surrounded the entrance and snow lay peacefully on top of the cave. Anakin turned on the spot light of the Y-Wing, he flew a couple meters inside the cave before landing, it was pitch black.
Anakin opened the hatch to the cockpit and gracefully exited, landing on both feet he ignited Obi-Wan's lightsaber, illuminating the cave.
Suddenly a screech bellowed throughout the cave, Anakin could make out a large figure at their rear end. Its nostrils flaring, its eye shine illuminating the rear end of the cave. Anakin wasn't necessarily struck with fear, but curiosity. He had heard of the humanoid creatures that stalked Hoth's icy plains.
The creature glared at Anakin, it's white fur blended perfectly with the cloud white snow.
Anakin used the force to enter the creature's mind, he sensed hunger and confusion. Anakin allowed himself to be open, and lowered his defences. Suddenly the creature stopped glaring and glaring at Anakin, and rather moved passively toward him. R2 gave a shriek, whilst Anakin remained calm and focused.
The creature was two feet in front of Anakin, Anakin could see its tusks, and round black eyes. The creature sat down in front of Anakin, confused on what he is. He used the force to sense if there were other life forms in the cave, there were none.
Anakin commanded the creature through the force to leave the cave, and to never return. The creature obliged and left, it could survive days in the so now without shelter, it would be fine.
Anakin stared blankly at the ice cave ceiling, glaciers and icicles stuck through like nails in a door. The cave was secure and safe, rather warm too. Anakin walked further into the cave, it opened up similar to the hangar back at the Yavin temple, the further he went, the warmer it got. This was surprising to Anakin, usually an ice planet would freeze a human being in minutes, however this cave seemed to defy logic.
As Anakin walked toward the end of the hall, he noticed a slight glimmer, an illuminating light similar to one of a kyber crystal. However if it was a kyber crystal, Anakin would sense it resonating through the force. Although whatever it was, was surely calling out to him. Anakin followed the bright blue light, it took him to a claustrophobic gap inside the ice. As Anakin used the force, he could sense power, and strength. Whatever it was, it had the power to destroy the entire cave and Anakin. However it seemed to have no intention of doing so...
Anakin touched the ice wall, his bare hand shivered on the freezing cold ice. His hand fully covered the light source. Within an instant, Anakin started to get visions. However these weren't things he had seen, but rather things he knew...
Anakin saw a crimson red blade, gliding against a grass green energy. It was Qui-Gon and Maul, just seconds before Qui-Gon died. Although he was witnessing the events transpire, that wasn't the focus of this vision. The vision kept his eyes glaring at Obi-Wan Kenobi. When Maul's death defining blade stuck Qui-Gon's torso, Kenobi let out a deafening scream. The pain he saw in his master reminded him of himself, the pain he went through when seeing Obi-Wan die. It had all come full circle. However Kenobi didn't give into rage or anger, he simply used it to give him motivation, and reason. He didn't give into the Dark side like Anakin did, that was what made Obi-Wan a great Jedi. His determination and will to oppose the darkness, as those who appose it are more powerful than the ones who wield it.
Anakin was suddenly taken out of the vision, he was grateful yet annoyed, he hated seeing Qui-Gon die but took pleasure in Obi-Wan serving Maul justice by severing his legs from his torso.
Anakin at this point in time, didn't know that Mail returned during the clone wars, he believed that was how Maul died, painfully falling down a reactor shaft.
Anakin knew this would be a great place for a base, it had a strong connection to the force, meaning it would be perfect for his and Luke's training.
"R2 are you able to get a communication to the Rebels?" Anakin asked
R2 gave a series of sad boops, indicating he was unable to.
"Very well then, mark theses coordinates, we'll head back and tell them ourselves" Anakin said before jumping back into the cockpit, once again they took off. This time heading towards Yavin.
Luke and Biggs had been talking for hours, 2 hours to be exact. They were catching up on old times and discussing some major issues.
"So...your brother. Do you reckon he'll leave the rebellion?" Biggs asked.
"I'm not too sure, I'd like to think he'd stay. After all he said he would. But I fear his pursuit of revenge will be his downfall." Luke sighed. He had taken what Leia said literally, that if Anakin fought Vader again then he would be killed.
"I get what you mean, but- but he's only going to get stronger right?" Biggs asked. He liked Anakin ever since the Death Star trench run, he saw the good side of Anakin facing Vader and surviving. However it was a very close call, Biggs felt the Rebellion needed stronger leaders, not that the leaders weren't already strong. Biggs wanted Anakin as a symbol to the galaxy, a new generation of Jedi.
"Well that's the idea Biggs, he said he'll train me as well. Don't know if he'll keep his word..." Luke sighed.
"Of course he will Luke, he promised to help the Alliance and he's gone off scouting for us, if he's promised you something directly, you can count on it happening." Biggs started to reassure Luke. Biggs had almost been the brother Luke never had. But Biggs was open to the revelation of Luke having a brother, things wouldn't be the same, but they would still be good.
"Luke, I don't think you realise the magnitude of our situation now, we could be seconds, hours or days away from the Empire striking at us, we can't afford to live these moments in regret or doubt. The general will come back, and he will train you." Biggs said. This gave Luke some comfort, after all Luke hadn't known Anakin all that long. Even with the case of not knowing Anakin, he still trusted him more than Han, Leia and he was almost on an equal trust field with Biggs.
"I haven't known him all that long Biggs, but I feel like I've known him all my life. We get along fine, that's something you don't usually see with brothers. Maybe more father and son type relationships. All I know is that he's a powerful Jedi who's hiding some important secrets, hopefully he'll share them one day."
"Well you can't expect him to say everything at once, he's only know you a couple days as well, even if he knew you before you were separated. I know I've been a brother to you Luke, but you've got a real one now. But don't think I'm going to stop looking after you, that would lead to disaster." Biggs chuckled.
"Well what are you going to do? Become a brother to him as well?" Luke chuckled.
"That's not a bad idea, best friends with two Skywalkers. Oh, wait. That's a mixture for disaster." Biggs started to laugh, he enjoyed hanging around with Luke, especially as he felt bad leaving him for the Imperial academy.
The rebels had fully packed, ready for the green light from Anakin to leave Yavin and head to wherever they were told to. Leia was searching for Han and Chewie, after all they agreed to stay, but she couldn't find them anywhere. She tried to speak with them via the com link but there was no response.
As it would turn out, Han, Luke, Chewie and Biggs were all at the bar. Luke and Chewie were sober, the same couldn't be said for Biggs and Han.
"So wh- when are we leaving this dump?" Han slurred his words when he was drunk, he also acted incredibly immature and stupid.
"As soon as the- the General gets back" Biggs replied
"Why- why did they immediately make him a General, but not- me?" Han asked.
Luke, Chewie and Biggs immediately burst out laughing, it was obvious they made him a General because he was a Jedi, maybe the last one.
"Well what do you think Han?" Luke chuckled.
"I-I think it's because I'm more handsome than him, and all the women would stare at me too long" Han blurted out.
This caused everyone to explode with laughter, Leia just that second came round the corner and chuckled.
"I don't know where you get your delusions laser brain" Leia said.
"Oh come on princess, you know it's true. But- why is the Jedi a General?" Han asked.
"You've literally just said it" Everyone said in sync.
"I- don't get what you mean" Han said before taking a swig of his drink.
"You're impossible" Leia said.
"Well I think, princess. That you just can't let a gorgeous guy like me out of your sight." Han blurted out.
"Oh, right. Because that makes sense doesn't it." Leia sarcastically replied.
At this point everyone was laughing, they laughed for what seemed like hours. Suddenly a rebel trooper approached the group.
"Ma'am, one of the sensors at the entrance of the temple has been set off, it could be the General"
"Very well, round up everyone for a warm welcome. It will save time and we can leave in less than ten minutes" Leia replied
"Right away" The rebel did as told, rounded up every Alliance member, ready for the briefing from Anakin. Everyone approached the the gargantuan blast door that separated the hanger from the outside of the temple. The blast doors opened, it revealed a figure standing before the door. However it wasn't Anakin...
