Author's Comments: Uh keep in mind these are the first battles I have ever written they are very very bad. Thanks pandamaster97720 for the advice it helped a lot and the battles aren't as sucky as they could have been if not for that bit of advice. I'm only writing important battles for the preliminaries, these are only the first round so if I don't write the battle for a character guess then assume it just didn't matter. The Master Cup and World Championship are two different things btw, obviously champions could join the if they wanted but the MC is more for common trainers and isn't as pristine as the WC. Wanted to explain that really quick. Okay I'll shut up, onto battles.

Ash made his way to the stands reserved for participants, stopping to give the odd autograph to other competitors that requested it, and in some cases to take pictures with them. After finishing another picture with the last two trainers from Kanto, he sighed in relief, getting a snicker from Raichu. "Hey you better not forget about me Big Bro!" A familiar voice called from ahead, and Ash turned to see a small 12 year old girl shove her way through the crowd, pulling along an older girl with shoulder length hair.

"Bonnie!" Ash grinned and scooped the girl into his arms, twirling her around while she giggled. "Troublemaker, you should have told me you were coming!" Beside them, Raichu and Dedenne's cheeks sparked joyfully, tiny shocks connecting them as they greeted each other.

Bonnie smirked mischievously once she was set down. "I wanted to surprise you!"

"Did Clemont come too?" Ash asked, reaching down to greet Dedenne.

"Nope! He's at home, there have been a lot of challenges lately and he couldn't get away. But!" She turned around and pulled the older girl forward. "This is my new friend Serena! She does Showcases, and Gym Challenges!"

"Its nice to meet you." Ash extended his hand. Serena seemed to zero in on his engagement ring and sigh sadly before shaking his hand with a shy smile.

"You too." She said softly. "Actually, it was your battle against Clemont that inspired me to take up Gym Challenges, I'm a really big fan!"

"Thank you, I'm glad I can inspire other trainers, its a bit embarrassing though." He admitted before motioning over to his waiting group. "How about you two come sit with us?"

"R-Really? Sitting with the Alola Champion and his friends?!" Serena stuttered.

Bonnie accepted easily. "Yes! Lana's here right? Yay! Lets go with Big Bro's friends!" Before Serena could say anything, Bonnie started dragging her over to the group, leaving Ash to follow behind them, chuckling at his adoptive little sister's enthusiasm.

Lana leaned over to whisper into Gladion's ear. "Are you sure they won't come over here?"

"Cynthia and Lance assured me that Security knows that those people are not to be allowed around our section, or around Ash." Gladion assured. "If they come close to him, Security will lead them away before Ash even notices."

"Yeah but Raichu will notice." Kaiwe pointed out. Since the betrayal the electric rodent had become extremely protective, and with his new Psychic typing nothing got past him.

Gladion rolled his eyes. "Raichu won't alert Ash, he knows it will just cause unnecessary stress. We're fine." He assured.

"If you-woah!" Lana was cut off by Bonnie tackling her. "Bonnie!" She squealed, hugging the little terror back.

"I invited them to sit with us." Ash explained. "This is Bonnie's new friend."

"Its nice to meet you all! I'm Serena." She waved shyly, immediately being scooped up to sit with the other girls.

"Were the pair ups announced yet?" Ash asked, slipping to sit beside Gladion. Raichu hopped up into his lap, chuing as Gladion started to pet him.

"Not yet." Gladion shook his head. Since Ash was participating he wasn't told any of the pair ups for the sake of fairness, he knew who was participating, but not in what order. Pouting, Ash nodded and released one of his extra Pokeballs, on his lap appeared a pretty lavender Espeon. In response, Gladion let out his Umbreon, who wasted no time padding over and purring over the shy Psychic type. "Wheres Jangmo-o?"

Ash snorted and pointed to the stands across the way. "My mom loves her." Sure enough Gladion could see Deliah in the stands, coddling the Dragon Type. Jangmo-o was very newly hatched, quite literally only a week old, but Ash wanted to bring her so she could see what real battles looked like. He brought Espeon because the previously abused Eeveelution got nervous when separated from his trainer for too long without Gladion's Umbreon.

"She knows she can't keep her, right?" Gladion smirked and Ash shrugged nonchalantly, knowing his mother would give her back when he asked. Green eyes glanced to the side to see a security guard lead away an irate redhead. Smiling to himself, the blonde slung his arm around the back of Ash's chair.

"Ugh I can't believe them!" Misty growled as she took her seat with the rest of her friends. Gary stared at Ash from across they way, trying to put the pieces together.

"I can't believe Ash is the champion of Alola." May hummed as she took her seet, a stack of papers in her hands.

"This-There must be some kind of mistake!" Max screeched, trying to come up with some sort of explanation.

"At least we know why Alola hates Misty." Dawn chimed in unhelpfully, getting a glare from the red haired woman.

"That loser must have cheated or lied to become champion! It just makes no sense!" Misty huffed, crossing her arms.

"Well I got our schedules." May waved the papers up, trying to break some of the tension. She handed the schedules out for the Preliminaries. "Misty is battling some lady named Giselle, its the first battle of the tournament. I looked it over on the walk back, and I'm battling Zoey, I didn't know she was even participating."

Dawn looked up and nodded. "Actually quite a few coordinators are participating, Kenny and Ursula, and I'm pretty sure I saw Harley skulking around. I guess we aren't the only ones who got bored."

"Ugh, my first battle is going to be so boring! Giselle is nothing but a pretty face, and she's a Rock and Ground Type Trainer." Misty groaned. "It would be different if she were someone like Brock, but I'm a Gym Leader, she'll be out in one hit!"

"Don't stress so much Misty, we can go to the pool after the first days of the Preliminaries are up and blow some steam there." May soothed her friend. "You're going to give yourself frown lines."

Sighing, Misty nodded. "I guess you're right."

"Will Misty Waterflower and Giselle Golde make their ways to the Battlefield Please? We're ready for you now." A voice called over the intercom.

"Lets get this over with." Misty hoisted herself up and made her way to the battlefield.

She was directed to the left and came out on the green side of the stage. The field was part water, and part land. On the other side of the field was an older Giselle. Time had been her friend, as she was just as pretty, if not more so, than when they were younger. Her hair was long, reaching her knees, and her face was untouched by make up except for a simple glittery brown gloss. She seemed to recognise Misty before she smirked and gave a fake nice wave.

"The Battle Between Misty, and Giselle is about to commence! This is a One on One battle, no substitutions. The winner is decided when one side is unable to battle or the trainer forfeits. Begin!"

"Misty calls: Starmie!" In a flash a purple starfish like pokemon with a shiny red jewel materialized on a land bump next to the water.

"Come on out Marowak!" Giselle threw out a PokeBall, and a bipedal Pokemon with a smooth skull-like face, holding a bone in its hand.

"Lets end this quickly with Hydro Pump Starmie!" Misty called out.

Starmie jumped into the air, letting out a blast of water from its uppermost spike that hurled towards Marowak at top speeds.

Giselle simply smiled. "Ice Beam, followed by Bone Rush." Marowak opened its mouth and a shimmery, frosty beam shot forward, turning the Hydro Pump into a beam of ice that hurled towards them. Without wasting time, Marowak's bone lit up a stunning blue color. Wielding it like a staff, Marowak shattered the frozen Hydro Pump.

In the stands Ash watched in an intrigued hum. The beautiful brown haired woman had grown tremendously since he had last seen her. No longer snooty, he could tell that their meeting so long ago had wisened her up of the actuality of Pokemon battles.

"That was amazing!" Serena gasped. "But isn't Marowak a Ground Type? They're weak against water types."

"Type matchup means nothing if the moves can't hit." Ash advised. "Pay close attention, this battle is shaping up to be more interesting than I realized.

—-

Misty growled. "Use Swift Starmie!" Starmie started spinning and stars burst from it's gem, raining down on Marowak.

"Spin your Bone Rush Marowak and then use Bonemerang!" Marowak started pinning the bone, still a bright blue, in front of them, shattering the Swift as they collided. When Swift tapered off Marowak threw the bone, watchin it spin as it headed for Starmie.

"Stop it Psychic and then send it right back!" Starmie's gem flashed red before purple energy entangled the Bonemerang, stopping it in the air before sending it hurling back towards Marowak. Marowak let out a cry of pain as it was hit by its own attack. Now use Power Gem!" Starmie spun in the air, gem flashing before powering a bright red beam from it's gem. Marowak cried out again, but easily stood back up and Misty huffed in frustration.

—-

Ash couldn't stop the tsk sound that left his mouth, catching his companion's attention. "I said Type match ups mean nothing if the moves don't hit, and what I said was true, that being said, if Misty had used Hydro Pump, a water type move, instead of Power Gem, a rock type move, this battle would have been over."

"But isn't Misty's Starmie higher level?" Bonnie asked, and the ravenette shrugged.

"Even a higher level Pokemon can't always KO Pokemon using a move they're neutral against." He explained.

"Whats your bet for the outcome?" Gladion asked.

Brown met green as Ash glanced at his fiance. "Misty is going to lose her temper and drag this battle out longer than it needs to be."

—-

"Marowak use Bonemerang again!"

"Starmie in the water!"

"Ice Beam the water so it can't escape!" Just as soon as Marowak threw its bone club, it froze the water solid, causing Starmie, who hastily tried to dive into the water, to crash against the icey surface before Bonemerange smashed into the other Pokemon's back, causing it to cry out. "Now use Headbutt!"

"Get out of there Starmie!" Starmie started to stand, but was thrown back by Marowak's thick skull smashing into it. Misty growled again. "Use Tackle while its close!" Starmie started spinning, and tackled Marowak while in close range, sending it staggering back.

"Focus Punch now!"

"Stop it with Psychic!" Marowak's fist lit up, followed by the bipedal Pokemon punching towards Starmie, but before it could land Starmie stopped it with Psychic. "Now use Hydro Pump!" Marowak went flying, the water type attack causing it to skid backwards. Marowak tried to stand, but fell back down, eyes swirling as it passed out.

"Match end!" The referee called immediately. "Marowak is unable to battle, and that means Misty is the winner!"

"You were wonderful Marowak, return." Giselle smiled kindly at her PokeBall, lovingly running her thumb over the red and white technology.

"Great job Starmie! Return!" Misty shot a smug grin towards the pretty brunette, who easily ignored her and caused the redhead to huff and frown before storming off to get her Pokemon looked at.

—-

"I hope Marowak is okay." Bonnie frowned, tilting her head into Lana's palm when the older girl patted it in comfort.

"There are plenty of nurse joy around Bonnie, after a bit of rest Marowak will be good as new." Ash assured, glancing at Kaiwe as the boy stood. "Your turn?" He questioned.

"Yep, against someone named Paul." Kaiwe nodded simply.

"Be careful." Ash warned. "Paul is a very serious, and strong trainer. His Pokemon are top notch, and while not a method I agree with, his training style has made his Pokemon strong and unyielding."

"Are you speaking as my Champion, or my competitor?" Kaiwe asked humorfully.

"Neither." Ash grinned wildly. "I'm speaking as your friend, and his rival." The fiery duo shared a look before Kaiwe walked away.

—-

Kaiwe came out of the blue side of the arena, brushing his fingers over Turtonator's Pokeball, and eyeing his opponent. Paul was extremely tall, with purple hair that was chopped into an undercut. His face was blank, and masked in perfect indifference.

"The Battle Between Kaiwe, and Paul is about to commence! This is a One on One battle, no substitutions. The winner is decided when one side is unable to battle or the trainer forfeits. Begin!"

"Torterra stand by for battle!"

"Turtonator lets go!"

Both trainers threw their pokeballs out at the same time, Kaiwe perhaps a second later due to the restriction of wearing a shirt. Two shelled Pokemon took the stage and Paul visibly scowled, his mask breaking for the first time.

"Start with Stone Edge!" Paul ordered.

"Take the hit with Shell Smash!"

Turtonator lit up a bright orange, his shell strengthening in defense before Toterra could shoot rocks towards him. The fire type Pokemon huffed, the Stone Edge doing minimum damage if any at all. Paul growled in frustration, forcing himself to calm down.

"Use Flamethrower!" A burst of flame charged towards Torterra, but was cut off by a Leaf Storm Counter Shield that Paul ordered, the leafs picking up the flames and spiraling them upwards and keeping Torterra safe. Kaiwe simply smirked. "Dragon Tail, now!"

"Frenzy Plant!" But the call came too late, Turtonator rolled onto all fours, tail lighting up a vibrant orange. He charged the counter shield, dodging the large vines that sprouted from the ground. Whipping around, Turtonator's Dragon Tail broke through the counter shield, and collided with Torterra, sending the tired Pokemon into the counter shield, where it was sucked up and damaged not only by the Flamethrower, but also its own Leaf Storm.

Somehow, Torterra was able to stand back up, but it was injured, and tired.

—-

"Woah! That Torterra is so strong!" Bonnie gasped.

"Yes, most Pokemon would have fallen by now." Gladion nodded, eyeing the Torterra critically.

"Paul and Torterra have been together a long time." Ash informed, scratching Raichu's head while the rodent cooed in agreement.

—-

"Get some of your energy back with Giga Drain!" Green tendrils shot from Torterra, wrapping around Turtonator and unwilling to let go. Turtonator growled in pain as his energy was sucked out and transferred to Torterra.

"Break free with Flamethrower!" A burst of flame shot fromTurtonator, and Torterra dropped him in favor of dodging out of the way. While still injured, Torterra had healed some and was roaring to turn the battle around, but because of how tired it was, moves like Hyper Beam and Frenzy Plant were out.

"Stone Edge again!" Sharp stones hurled themselves at Turtonator, colliding with the Pokemon, and causing him to stagger back slightly. "Before it can recover, use Crunch!"

Kaiwe smirked, "Let it get close!" Turtonator stayed still, shell facing the other turtle Pokemon as it charged him. "Now Shell Trap!"

"Torterra get out of there-" Torterra tried to skid to a halt, but it was too late, Turtonator's shell exploded, sending Torterra falling to the ground, eyes in swirls.

"Torterra is unable to battle! The Winner is Kaiwe!"

Whispers and awe swept the crowd, Sinnoh native stuttering over the fact that Paul had lost so badly. Kaiwe, in a burst of happiness, happened to rip his shirt off, breathing a sigh of relief as the restrictive thing was off while he cheered, causing some people in the crowd to scream with joy.

"Return!" Turtonator was zapped back into his pokeball and Kaiwe smiled down at it. Not many could realize, but Turtonator was actually pretty tired, Kaiwe doubted that he would have won if Paul hadn't used a Grass type. Kaiwe smiled towards Paul, waving his hand as a show of good faith, and while momentarily taken off guard, Paul smirked and nodded stiffly before walking off.

Author's Comments: How did I do for my first time writing a battle? I know Paul got creamed but I really just wanted him gone. I figure if this sucks I can only improve from here.
