Author's Comments: Last of the QF. Btw know that there are implied more people in the tournament, but just assume that everyone not important just lost their battles off screen. I have no patience to write battles that don't matter to the main story, especially because that would mean making a bunch of ocs and ocs pokemon and personalities and i don't feel like doing that. Okay on to the last battles until semi finals. next chapter will be pretty much world building/drama before the semis start.
Lana stared ahead from her spot on her platform, her usual lax gaze hardened as she stared at her opponent. The battlefield was a large pool with a few platforms floating in the water, it was a request seeing as both Lana and her opponent specialized in water Pokemon. Green eyes gazed back at her with just as much heat as they sized each other up. Since the moment Lana had been made aware of the pair up, she had been ready, preparing to take the Cerulean Gym leader down.
It wasn't simple rivalry between two type experts that drove her, it was the need to protect her friend. Misty was the one he had been dreading the most, and if Lana could stop that from happening, she would. Glancing behind her, Lana looked at her friends, all sitting together as they waited for the match to start, already cheering for her and her Pokemon, even Ash was watching with a big smile, Raichu comfortably on his shoulder as they cheered for her.
"The Battle between Lana and Misty is about to begin! This is a two on two, single battle, no substitutions are permitted! The battle will be over when one side is out of Pokemon, or a trainer forfeits! Begin!"
Lana's face broke out in a big determined grin as she reeled her arm back, throwing out her first Pokemon. "Lets reel in a big one Lanturn!" From her Pokeball and into the water formed a blue and yellow fish Pokemon with lights dangling from her forehead.
"Misty calls: Seaking!" Misty called, throwing a pretty ginger, black, and white speckled fish pokemon with a horn and a pair of frilly tails.
"Thunder Wave in the water!" Lana ordered and Lanturn dove down into the water. Her body started to spark yellow and orange before a wave of electricity shot out, expanding through the water.
"Use Water Fall to get out of there!" Seaking summoned a large pillar of water, and swam up in, dodging Thunder Wave as it snuck up the water pillar after it. "Find Lanturn and use Horn Drill!" At the top of the pillar Seaking looked around until she could see a darker part of the pool, and she jumped, aiming her head down. The horn on her head started spinning at top speeds as she spiraled downwards, turning the fish Pokemon herself into a drill. As soon as she it the surface of the water electricity surged into her, but Seaking pressed on, barreling right into Lanturn before Seaking became paralyzed.
"Discharge!" Lanturn shook off Horn Drill, the Normal Type move did some damage, but not an overwhelming amount. Straightening back out in the water, blue electricity started to build up, the lure's on her head glowing brighter. With a cry Lanturn fired Discharge, which hit the paralyzed Seaking without any issue. Seaking floated to the top of the pool, her eyes in swirls.
"Seaking is unable to battle. Will Trainer Misty please forfeit or send out her next Pokemon?"
Misty grit her teeth as she recalled Seaking, but smirked as she brought out her next Pokemon. "Misty Calls: Kingdra!" From her Pokeball formed a large blue seahorse-like Pokemon with a long nose.

Max glanced back at Brock, who had cheered up from the previous day, even though the whole group was still reeling after what happened with Iris. Professor Oak promised he'd talk to Lance and get the whole thing smoothed over, but it was still a tense situation. "Hey Brock, who do you think is going to win?" He asked.
"Its hard to say." Brock admitted. "Misty has the type advantage with a Dragon Type, making Lanturn's electric type attacks less effective, but we also don't know what Lana's second Pokemon in, or if Lanturn knows any Ice moves. It's hard to say right now, but Misty has also had Kingdra since they were just a Horsea, so I don't doubt that they will battle hard."
Max hummed in thought and looked back at the battle, where Misty called out her first move.
—-
"Dragon Dance followed up by Hydro Pump!" Kingdra's body took on a miraculous purple glow, sparling and spinning around him as his attack and speed was raised. As the purple dragon energy simmered down, Kingdra threw his head back, and from his long nose, fired a large jet of water.
"Hydro Pump Lanturn!" From Lanturn's mouth shot another large jet that soared across the field, colliding with Kingdra's Hydro Pump.
The two jets of water collided, spraying against each other as they fought back and forth. Kingdra's Hydro Pump had an obvious edge, what with Dragon Dance, and simply being a stronger Pokemon, as such it pushed the other Hydro Pump back, and collided with Lanturn.
"Dive deep into the water and use Take Down Lanturn!"
"Follow it and then use Bubble Beam!"
Lanturn swam deep into the depths of the water, and Kingdra gave chase. Lanturn started to glow and flipped around to swim towards Kingdra at top speeds, while Kingdra fired a spiraling beam of bubbles. Lanturn dodged, intent on hitting the dule water/dragon type, but Kindra wasn't giving up either, shooting small spurts of Bubblebeam as he tried to land a hit. Lanturn cried out when a close Bubblebeam hit, but pushed through, colliding with Kingdra in a heavy hit that dealt damage to Kingdras, but also Lanturn. Not one to be outshone, Kingdra straightened himself out and fired another close Bubblebeam, before swimming to the surface, Lanturn following close behind. As soon as they broke surface, Misty called her next attack.
"Ice Beam now!" The frost beam shot from Kingdra's nose, immediately striking the unprepared, and damaged water/electric type.
"Discharge!" Lanturn growled, releasing a large burst of electricity. The heat from Discharge thawed away some of Ice Beam's effects, however before it could hit Kingdra, the sea horse like Pokemon leaped into the air, and out of the water.
"Hydro Pump!" Ice Beam tapered off and in a second was replaced by Hydro Pump, that hit Lanturn's Discharge, soaking up some of it's electricity and firing it back at Lanturn. Lanturn cried out in pain, before passing out.
"Lanturn is unable to battle. Will Trainer Lana please forfeit or send out her next Pokemon?"
"Lanturn Return!" Lana recalled swiftly. "You were awesome, take a nice break." Lana fished out her next Pokeball. "Lets reel in a big one, Dragonair!"
Misty's eyes bulged. "Did she just say Dragonair?!" She stammered to herself.
In the water, unwinding like a serpent, was a long, elegant blue and white Dragon Type with bulb shaped gems, a single white horn on her head, and feathered ears. "Nair!" Dragonair cheered in a soft croon. In comparison to other Lana's Dragonair was small, way bigger than Dratini, but still on the smaller side, a mark of its young age.
"Now then, Let the battle between Dragonair and Kingdra: Begin!" The audience went crazy. They had missed out on a Dragon v Dragon with Iris and Kiawe and they were roaring with glee at a water/dragon blow out!
Both trainers called out their beginning moves at the same time. "Ice Beam!" Two Ice Beams shot out, colliding with each other in a cold burst of power.
"Agility!"
"Dragon Dance!"
Dragonair lit up in a subtle white glow, moving swiftly through the water as her speed was raised, while Kingdra glowed a bright purple, raising his speed and attack.
"Ice Beam Kingdra!"
"Into the sky!" The feathered wings alongside Dragonair's head grew in size, and flared, before lifting Dragonair into the air, effortlessly dodging Kingdra's Ice Beam. "Fling Kingdra into the air with Twister and then use Ice Beam on the pool!"
The gems on Dragonair's tail started glowing dark blue as Dragonair swirled her tail. Winds started picking up, spinning and dragging the air in the arena. Kingdra tried to fight against the pool, attempting to dive down but Twister was too strong, drawing Kingdra in and dealing damage as he was tossed around in Twister's coils. With Kingdra out of the water, Dragonair fired Ice Beam into the pool, freezing the surface of the water.
—-
"Why did she freeze the pool?" Dawn questioned, glancing worriedly at Misty from her seat.
"Kingdra don't maneuver too well outside the water." Gary spoke up, inclining his head towards the field, where Kingdra fell from the dwindling twister onto the frozen pool, unable to stabilize very well on the cold, chunky ground that was once the pool. "Its a smart move."
"But Misty…" May trailed off.
"Misty won't stay down for long." As if to prove his point, Misty called out her next move.
—-
"Draco Meteor!" Kingdra, rolled over onto his side, angling his head upwards as orange energy built and pulsed inside him.
"Don't let them launch that move, grab Kingdra with Wrap!" Dragonair dived down from the sky, landing on the chilly ice pool. She shot out her tail, it coiling around Kingdra with ease as she wrapped around it.
Despite the tight hold, Kingdra was able to fire a large, glowing orange ball of energy into the sky. Smaller meteors broke off, spiraling downwards towards the ice, causing the ice to crack and shatter under the onslaught of meteors. "Now Ice Beam!" Despite the harsh hold, Kingdra craned his neck and fired an Ice Beam at Dragonair, causing to her cry out at the powerful attack and unravel, allowing Kingdra to slip back into the water.
"Are you okay Dragonair?" Lana called out worriedly, Dragonair crooned reassuredly, but Ice Beam dealt some major damage. Despite her affinity for the water, Dragonair was only a pure Dragon Type unlike Kingdra, who's secondary water typing could shave off a little bit of the an ice type attack's damage. Lana looked out at the field. The pool was now an amalgamation of large chunks of ice and freezing water. "Aqua Tail!"
Misty frowned, she had hoped Ice Beam would have been enough but it seemed like she was wrong. Kingdra was panting heavily, tired from his battle with Lanturn, and Twister dealt quite a bit of damage, as did Wrap. "Ice Beam again!"
Dragonair's tail became encased in water, bubbling a crisp blue color as Dragonair twisted, slamming her tail onto the ice and water. Kingdra jumped out from the water, and shot out another Ice Beam as Dragonair delivered another hit. Aqua Tail slammed into Kingdra just as Ice Beam landed a hit, ending both Pokemon spiraling. Kingdra could barely stay afloat, and Dragonair was struggling to push herself back up. The audience, trainers, and referee held their breath, watching both Pokemon closely until finally, Dragonair fell, her eyes swirling as she passed out. Not a moment later, Kingdra followed.
The referee had to look at the tapes to see who fell first, allowing the two trainers to return their Pokemon. "After careful review, Dragonair was the Pokemon unable to battle first, meaning the winner of this match is: Misty and her Kingdra!" The audience started cheering for both trainers and Pokemon.

Lana's head was bowed as she walked down the halls, her chest restricted with disappointment. As she neared the group she found Kiawe and Ash waiting for her. Shame burned behind her eyes as she met Ash's soft gaze. Before either boy could get a word out, she apologized. "I'm sorry."
Kiawe sputtered in confusion. "What are you sorry for?"
Ash however, understood in an instant. Chuckling warmly, he ruffled her hair, pulling a disgruntled whine from the shorter girl. "I knew what participating in this tournament meant. It meant I'd likely run into, and probably have to battle them. I am nervous, but it'll be okay." He promised. "But thank you for trying to protect me."
Lana offered a watery smile. "Does this mean I'm your favorite Trial Captain?"
Kiawe, having understood the jist of the problem, made an offended noise. "Excuse you, I'm his favorite Trial Captain!"
"No I am, I'm the funniest!" Lana grinned impishly.
Ash sighed at their mannerisms. "You're both wrong, Mallow is my favorite Trial Captain."
Both Fire and Water experts squawked. "You're only saying that because she makes you food!" They screeched simultaneously.
Ash merely raised a brow at them. "And?"
—-
Ash stood on his platform, massaging Raichu's cheeks as he waited for the match to begin. Once again he was going last, mostly because his opponent had a bit of a problem with the rules that had been set and had kicked up a bit of a fuss, and partially because the matchup had garnered some attention from Sinnoh spectators and had spiraled online, building the tension of the match, resulting in Lance moving the match down last as a big finale.
Not that Ash wasn't excited to battle the trainer, he was, but he was a bit apprehensive to face his match up, mostly because of the extra paperwork Ash was having to file due to his upset, and insistence that he be given special treatment due to his own trainer rank, and Ash's own. First he wanted to use two Legendary Pokemon, when all official tournament rules state only one per match because he had a high trainer rank, when that was turned down he brought up Ash's rank as a champion, stating that his use of two Legendary Pokemon would even the playing field, when that didn't work he claimed the tournament was rigged, at which point Cynthia and Lance had to be called in, with a few other officials, to explain why the rule was in place. Finally the man just gave up, still not happy but unwilling to further jeopardize his standing. It was a massive headache and the issue lead to two nights of Lance and Ash having to drag Cynthia back to her hotel room because she was hammered(shes like 24ish) from drinking her frustration away. So yes, while Ash was happy to, technically, have a rematch, the man was also a great source of pain and annoyance the last few days.
Something black moving from across the way snagged Ash's attention. His opponent looked the same, if a bit older, then he did back in the Sinnoh League, with long, wispy dark blue hair and clothes a dark crimson.
"The Battle between Ash and Tobias is about to begin!" The referee winced as the audience burst with excitement, bets being placed between friends and cheering echoing in the stadium. "This is a two on two, single battle, no substitutions are permitted! The battle will be over when one side is out of Pokemon, or a trainer forfeits! Begin!"
"Rise Tyranitar!" Tobis called as he threw out his Pokemon, a towering macha colored bipedal Pokemon with a fierce snarl.
"Lycanroc I choose you!" On the field formed a quadrupedal wolf like Pokemon, with spiky white and orange fur, and narrowed, battle ready green eyes.
—-
"Woah!" Professor Oak stood up, his eyes flashing with scientific greed as he took in the rare orange Lycanroc.
"What's the matter Professor?" Misty eyed the man warily.
"Lycanroc is a Pokemon from the Alola region, we saw Lycanroc's Midnight Form yesterday." Professor Oak fished out his Pokedex and pulled up a picture of a red bipedal wolf, like the one they saw the day before. "Lycanroc has two known forms, Midnight, and Midday." He swiped the dex to show a softer looking brown and white quadruped wolf Pokemon.
Misty raised her brow, not really looking at the Pokemon on screen. "So Ash's Lycanroc is different colored?"
The Professor shook his head. "No, a few years ago the Pokedex was updated. Someone in Alola evolved their Rockruff, but instead of getting Midnight, or Midday, they got an entirely new form! The Dusk Form!" Swiping his dex again, he revealed the orange and white variant, like the one Ash had just unleashed. "Of course, as soon as I found out I asked if they could send over the Pokemon so I could study it, but I was turned down. Professor Kakui said the trainer didn't want to send over his Pokemon, intending to use the Pokemon in his upcoming trials, and so Professor Kakui and my cousin conducted the research on the Pokemon. I've read their paper, but I wish I could have studied the Pokemon myself."
"So Ash used that research to evolve his own Rockruff, its not that big of a deal." Misty scoffed.
Professor Oak shook his head and sat back down. "There's still a lot of research being done on Lycanroc, its not like an Eevee, who you simply give an Evolution stone to. As it stands, there is only a single documented Dusk form Lyucanroc." A twinge of bitterness was in Professor Oak's tone as he stared at the orange and white wolf.
The group of friends shifted uncomfortably, and Gary reached out to pat his Grandfather on the back in hopes of comforting him.
—-
"Curse Tyranitar!" Black and purple energy pulsed around Tyranitar, twinging orange, before twinging blue as Tyranitar's Attack and Defense heightened, and his speed lowered.
"Sand Attack." Lycanroc let out a mighty howl, standing on his hind legs before slamming his front legs into the ground. A large cloud of sand picked up, and shot towards Tyranitar, striking the towering Pokemon in the face. Tyranitar growled, scratching at his eyes in order to try and dispel the sand.
"Stomping Tantrum, now!" Tyranitar's body lit in a golden glow, and started stomping, as if a child throwing a tantrum because they didn't get a treat from the store. With a final stomp, the ground splintered, and cracked, hurling shards from the battlefield at Lycanroc.
"Stone Edge!" As an orange aura surrounded his body, Lycanroc slammed his front paws into the ground, causing the ground to split open, and large, jagged blue stones to shoot up, surrounding Lycanroc and taking Stomping Tantrum's hit, and protecting Lycanroc from injury.
"Ice Fang!" Tyranitar stormed towards Lycanroc, fangs glowing a frosty blue as he snapped his jaws.
"Crunch."
Lycanroc took off, fangs beaming black as he approached the storming Rock/Dark type. Lycanroc leapt at Tyranitar, digging his fangs into his opponent's rock hard hide, and clamping down. Tyranitar growled in pain, and snapped his jaws over Lycanroc's tail, digging the frosted fangs into the Rock type. Lycanroc whimpered in pain as the ice type move bit into him, freezing over his tail a little bit.
"Counter!" The black rock near Lycanroc's head glowed orange and green as the wolf released crunch, before he delivered a heavy blow to Tyranitar's shoulder, sending the Tyranitar reeling back.
Tobias frowned as the attack did a phenomenal amount of damage, and Tyranitar crumbled to the ground, and Lycanroc leapt back to stand before Ash. Counter was a fighting type move, not only were rock types weak against fighting types but so were dark types. Not only that, but Counter was a move that increases damage if the user had been hit, and Lycanroc was able to land his Counter attack at a very close range.
"Tyranitar is unable to battle. Will Trainer Tobias please forfeit or send out his next Pokemon?"
Sighing at being defeated, Tobias recalled Tyranitar. But Tobias wasn't out of the tournament yet. "Darkrai Rise!" From his Pokeball appeared his signature Pokemon, bathed in black tendrils and flowing white hair that only showed their cold blue eyes.
"Now then, Let the battle between Darkrai and Lycanroc: Begin!"
Tobias ordered his move before Ash could even speak. "Dark Void, followed by Dream Eater!" From its hands Darkrai formed a red and black ball of energy that shot towards Lycanroc, encasing him in a bubble. Lycanroc howled in alarm before crumbling to the ground, asleep. Darkrai then pulsed black, a shadow version of itself separating and gliding towards the sleeping Lycanroc. It phased through its sleeping opponent, sucking away Lycanroc's energy. When it returned back to its body, Lycanroc's eyes were swirling.
The referee sputtered, but quickly called an end to the battle between Lycanroc and Darkrai. "Lycanroc is unable to battle. Will Trainer Ash please forfeit or send out his next Pokemon?"
Ash returned Lycanroc with no protest. "I figured you would use Darkrai, good thing we learned a new move for this battle." Ash grinned as he pulled out his Pokeball. "Persian I choose you!"
"Purmow!" From his Pokeball formed a large quadruped wild cat, with a round head, short snout, and luxurious deep blue fur, on her head was a stunning sky blue gem. Around her neck was a stunning silver collar with red gems.
—-
"Is that an Alolan form too?" Dawn asked, glancing back at Professor Oak, who nodded.
"Alolan Persian, its a Dark type." He informed with ease.
Misty curled her nose. "It looks weird."
"They look like that because Meowth and Persian are spoiled in Alola." Brock explained, eying her collar, and shiny fur with amusement. "From the looks of it, that one's spoiled a great deal." Misty rolled her eyes.
—-
"Now then, Let the battle between Darkrai and Lycanroc: Begin!"
"Sorry Ash, but it's time for the battle to end. Dark Void!" Darkrai formed another ball of black and red energy and hurled it towards Persian. Like before, Persian was encased in a bubble, before she fell asleep on the spot. "Dream Eater." Darkrai separated from its body, and zoomed towards Persian.
Ash simply smiled. "Sleep Talk." Persian dodged the approaching shadow with ease, before the gem on her forehead started glowing white. From her gem fired a blue and white beam that shot out and hit Darkrai, whose trainer was too surprised to act quick enough.
Tobais shook his head to clear it. "You're still very surprising." He chuckled deeply. "Ice Beam."
"Sleep Talk again."
As Darkrai fired the frosted beam toward Persian, Persian's right claws extended and lit up, turning a hard silver. Persian took off running towards Darkrai, able to dodge Ice Beam while still being fast asleep due to her twitching whiskers and ears. As she got closer she shot out her metal claws, slashing at Darkrai, and causing it to twist and dodge.
"Dark Pulse!"
"Sleep Talk!"
Darkrai fired a pulse of purple energy, sending Persian sliding back, but not for long as her claws once again extended and turned silver. She leapt at Darkrai, slashing at it and finally landing a hit, that caused Darkrai float back. Persian's eyes snapped open, waking up from her sleep.
"You awake, Persian?" Ash asked, getting a loud purr of reassurance. "Good job, now use Taunt!"
"Purrmow mow Per!" Persian sneered at her fellow dark type, and while the people in the audience had no idea what she had said, she had obviously said something pretty rude, as Darkrai's usually passive face contorted into one of rage. Ash glanced at Raichu, but seeing the slack jawed look on his face made Ash decide that he didn't want to know.
Darkrai growled and fired Ice Beam without Tobias' say so. "Darkrai what is your problem?" He floundered.
"Dodge and then Night Slash!" Persian leapt and dodged Ice Beam, her claws glowing purple before she delivered a harsh slash at Darkrai.
"Dark Pulse!" Darkrai, still angry but willing to listen, did as told, firing a strong pulse of dark energy towards Persain.
"Catch it!" Before Tobias could question what Ash was talking about, Persian's claws lit back up, slashing at Dark Pulse and absorbing it's energy. The extra energy from Dark Pulse caused Persain's claws to become sharper, and longer, like blades of dark energy that pulsed. With a snap of his fingers Persain took off, her claws scraping against the ground as she neared Darkrai.
"Dark Void!" But Taunt was still in effect, meaning he couldn't use Dark Void, or Dream Eater, causing Darkrai to simply dry to dodge the onslaught of slashes that were directed towards him. With a mighty roar, Persian dug her claws into Darkrai, causing him to growl in pain.
"Power Gem!" Close range, a blue beam shot from Persian's gem and hit Darkrai. Persian pushed herself off Darkrai and stood a tail length away, watching at Darkrai tried to push himself up, only to ultimately slide back down, unable to battle.
"Darkrai is unable to battle. With no other Pokemon, Ash and Persian are the winners of the match!"
—-
Ash chuckled as he sat in the hallway, his lap full of giant, spoiled cat. Persian rubbed her head against his cheek, shooting snide grins at Raichu, who pouted from his spot floating beside them. Ash found it kind of hilarious that his Psychic rodent, and Dark feline had their own little rivalry, especially because Persain was extremely physical with him the same way Meganium(once Bayleef) was. But they were also extremely close, and worked well together during double battles. "Don't give me that look Raichu, you know Persian needs cuddles after battling." Raichu gave an exaggerated sigh, but calmed down. Suddenly however, both Raichu's and Persian's round ears flicked, drawing Ash's attention up.
A familiar young lady stood just in front of him, a meek smile on her face. "Hi Ash." She greeted, voice low and uncertain.
Ash swallowed his surprise. "Dawn."
TO BE CONTINUED…
Author's Comments: My idea for having Lana battling Misty is like in mha when Ururaka fought Bakugou to try and stop Midoriya from having to fight his bully, Lana wanted to beat Misty so Ash didn't have to face her. Idk how well that came across.
I also put a lot of thought into Ash's Pokemon Team. It is not the same as in canon, obviously, because these are Pokemon I wish he had caught and used, and this is his official team, meaning he carefully chooses what Pokemon to be on it. He has all his other Pokemon back in Alola. Also yes his Persian is shiny, I just like Shiny Alolan Persian more than regular Alolan Persian.
As for Tobias', I knew I wanted Ash to Battle Tobias, their battle in Sinnoh was so flipping unfair and Ash deserves better. There should have been a rule in place about using more than one legendary, the only reason they likely didn't was because they didn't think anyone would have a single legendary, much less two. I'm going off topic, anyway in this world it became a rule after Tobias' battle with Ash in sinnoh because Officials also thought it was extremely unfair. That being said, I poured over a lot of other stories with Tobias, and other sites to see what others think his team looks like, and honestly I really didn't like any of those. Tobias just seems like a dark or psychic trainer to me, maybe ghost, so I poured over a bunch of Pokemon to try and find the perfect second Pokemon for Ash v Tobias.
Also sorry this took so long honestly I just had no motivation to type, and these are big battles that I didn't want to tackle without any enthusiasm.
