A/N: I know it's been a while that I posted a chapter on this one but I want to thank everyone who's been patient with me as I write for a gazillion stories at the same time.
Kim was up and running errands with Vinessa while Kevin was helping Adam work on the master en-suite, or that's at least what he told Kim. What he really needed right now was his best friend's advice.
"I know something's on your mind Ruz." Kevin could see he was fidgety as soon as Kim left with his sister.
"I have something to run by you." He motioned for him to follow him upstairs.
"Alright, hit me with it." He watched as Adam pulled something out of the top drawer and opened it, showing it to Kevin.
"Damn brother." He whistled. "When are you going to pop the question?"
"I don't know man. I was thinking of doing something special this time." He took a deep breath and pulled another box out of how drawer. "I found this in my dad's things." He pulled out another velvet box and handed it to Kevin.
"What's this?" He opened it and looked at Adam after he saw what was in it.
"I found it in my dad's things, it was my mom's. I had this thought of maybe bringing them both to a jeweler and see what they can do with them." He trailed off.
"That'd be great."
"I just feel this ring always belonged on her finger and when pop's popped the question, he were insanely in love with my mom and I love Kim more than anything and if I'm being honest, she saved my like after he passed and I just want to be able to spend the rest of my life making it up to her."
"I'd say this is a damn good place to start." Kevin pulled Adam in a bone crushing hug. "Try not doing it in the locker room this time?" He chuckled as he released Adam.
"I plan on doing it right this time."
"And you better not dig your heals again or you and I will have a problem."
"I know she already said yes but trust me, if she doesn't change her mind when I ask her in front of everyone, we are getting it done within the year."
"That's what I like to hear. Now come on, we better get our asses going or Burgess will have them."
"Oh, she already has mine." Adam laughed as he hid both ring boxes back his drawer. "Let's go before she has yours though." He patted his chest and the two of them left the room and headed to his dad's house.
"So, what are we working on today?" Adam was the one driving today.
"Well the bathroom is pretty much all clear. The shower and the tub are being delivered by the end of the day and the guy that is doing the tiles in there and the new flooring in the kitchen should be here within the hour so we're on painting duty in the bedroom."
"I can work with that. You getting a plumber to put everything up in there?"
"Still not getting anywhere with that."
"I got someone that can hook you up, let me give him a call." Adam was always amazed how many people Kevin knew and when he hung up the phone, he knew he was getting a good deal. "He says he can be there tonight, shouldn't take too long."
"Damn Kev. I swear if I didn't know you better, I'd think you had ties to the mob." Adam chuckled. "How much will it cost me?"
"Nothing, he owes me a favor."
"Thank you, really." He was incredibly fortunate to have an amazing friend in Kevin. "I owe you big time."
"Don't sweat it." They got out of the car and headed upstairs to get started. "What were Burgess and Vinessa going for?"
"The vanity for the bathroom. I figured that if we can get the kitchen, master and living room done, we can move in and play the rest by ear."
"That sounds like a plan. But you know we definitely gotta have a BBQ in here when that back yard is going to be done."
"You can absolutely count on that." They laughed as they got everything ready. The floor was covered, and everything was out when there was a knock on the door. Adam hurried down the stairs and opened the door to the guy for the tiles. "Thanks for coming so quickly, I know you guys are really busy."
"Don't sweat it Ruzek, it's the least I could do for what you did for my family." The two walked into the room.
"This is my boy Atwater." The two men shook hands. "He's been giving me a hand in here. And this is Markus, I worked a case with him a while back."
"Nice to meet you."
"Likewise." Kevin echoed. "I'll get back to work because my boss won't be happy if she sees me taking a break already." He laughed.
"And I'm pretty sure she won't give me his money either if I don't get on with it too." He chuckled. The rest of the team was downstairs scrapping the kitchen flooring and they all worked in relative silence while they waited for Kim to return.
Kim was more than happy to do some shopping with Vinessa. She had good ideas and apart from the bathroom vanity, they came back with a light blue color of paint for the bathroom some bedding for the room. She was really hoping that they'd be able to move in soon, even if the house wasn't fully ready. She really thought that it would help settle Adam a bit if they could start building a life in there.
"Are we going to do some painting today?" Vinessa asked Kim as they were bringing everything inside.
"Not today." Kim could see the disappointment in her features. "The plumber is coming tonight but what about helping me with the kitchen when it's all done?"
"Yeah, that'd be cool. When are you and Adam going to move in the house?"
"I'm not sure yet, it's all up to Adam." Kim shrugged. She wasn't going to put pressure on him and if he wanted to wait then they would, but she was hoping for sooner rather than later. Vinessa took Kim's answer with a nod of her head as they stepped through the front door. The noise coming from the kitchen was loud so she simply waved at the men and headed up with Vinessa. She knew the guys were in the master bedroom painting and the tiling in the bathroom was getting done too.
"Hey darling." Adam smiled at her and kissed her cheek. "Did you find everything?"
"Yeah but I need some help, the box is pretty big."
"Alright, we'll get it done when we're finished in here."
"Looks good." She looked at their progress. "I'll get lunch in for everyone."
"You know what to put on that pie Burgess." Kevin called after her.
"You'll get what I pick on your pie Atwater." She yelled on her way down, pulling her phone from her back pocket to make the call. They worked until the food got there and the whole team ate on the deck in the back.
"This place is starting to look half decent Burgess." Kevin took the sight of what she had done so far.
"It'll still take some time still, but this place will be Intelligence ready when I'm done. You know you want to throw a party out here." She nudged his shoulder, and everyone laughed.
"Damn straight." He laughed. "And a wedding celebration too."
"Wedding?" Markus looked at Adam who could only grin.
"I asked and she said yes."
"You said yes to this knuckle head?" He looked at Kim with a smile.
"He can be quite charming." Kim teased and smiled at Adam, who winked at her.
"Very charming." He said, pulling her to him.
"Good luck with him because he's trouble."
"Trust me, I know." Adam poked her as she made fun of him.
"Congratulations both, really."
"Thanks." They said at the same time. Kim was happy that this was another good day for them. They finished eating and Kim cleared all the food with Vinessa while the guys went back to work. When it was all done, the plumber swung by and Adam helped him move the heavy stuff in and set. Kim did some more cleaning in the kitchen until the plumber left and Adam ordered them some dinner.
Kim was more than happy when everyone was out of the house, leaving her with Adam with their order of Chinese in the living room.
"We got a lot done today." Kim stole a dumpling out of Adam's box.
"I want to move in here soon, before we get married." He mused.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah." He smiled at her. "We just need the bedroom and the kitchen done for now." He took the box she was holding out of her hands and set it on the table.
"Oh really?" She smirked.
"Really. He moved closer to her on the couch and leaned down to kiss her. "I just need that sexy body of yours in our bed." He trailed the kisses down her neck as she ran her fingers through his hair. "And a stocked fridge to get your energy up after I'm done rocking your whole world." He hands were starting to un-button her shirt as he nipped at the flesh on her neck.
"I can't argue with that logic." She pulled him down closer and he returned his lips to hers. They let their hands do the talking as they undressed each other. They didn't care that the couch was less than spacious, and Adam made love to Kim, more than happy with the way things were going lately.
"This was fun." Kim had her cheek on his chest as they enjoyed basking in bliss.
"It was." She sighed in contentment. "But you know, the day isn't over." She probed herself on her chin against his chest.
"Dirty, dirty mind." He smirked, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "But I have a little something for you before we head back home and I make love to you all over again." He extended his hand and pulled his pants closer, grabbing something in the side pocket.
"What is it?" She was no giddy.
"A key to our new home." It was a lone key on a ring but the smile she gave him was worth everything.
"Really?"
"Yeah, really." He couldn't help the laugh that left his lips. "This is your home too so you don't always have to wait for me to come in here until we officially move."
"I love you." She pushed herself up and kissed him. "I love you I love you I love you." She pecked his lips.
"You love me?" He teased.
"Oh yeah." She took the key out of his hands and kissed him again. "I can't wait to become your wife and begin a life with you."
"And it's going to be pretty amazing." He cupped her cheeks and they kissed again. "Come on, get dressed so we can go home and I can take you to bed properly."
"You're so charming." She pushed herself from her position on Adam's chest and started getting dressed.
"I try." He smirk as he stood and got dressed himself. They returned home and Adam was on Kim in a second and they left a trail of clothes all the way to their room and Adam did exactly what he had promised her.
Adam slipped quietly out of the bed, wanting to let Kim sleep. He had an errand to run and he was hoping to get it done before they got called in. He took what he needed in the top drawer and left a note for Kim in case she woke up before he was back. He made it just in time for the woman to open the door and he slipped inside with a polite smile.
"Can I help you with something young man? She asked with a smile.
"I'm hoping that you can." He pulled out both ring boxes out of his pocket and put them on the counter. He was feeling a bit nervous as the woman open the two of them. "It's a complicated story but I asked my girlfriend to marry me again and this is the first engagement ring I gave her a few years ago and this one was my mother's and I was hoping to get some alterations done so I could ask her in front of all of our friends with both.
"They are both beautiful, you have great taste." She pulled his mother's ring out of the box and read the engraving on the inside of the band forever. Adam hated that it hadn't been the case for his parents but that's what he wanted with Kim and he would work every day to give her the most perfect life that he could. "I can absolutely do something nice for you."
"Perfect." She started filling out some paperwork when his radio came to life. "5021 IDA responding, advise for plain clothes officer on scene." He quickly pulled one his card out and handed it to her. "Please call me when it's ready." The woman didn't say anything, letting him leave, clearly the call an important one. All he had to do now was think of the perfect way to propose to her and he'd be golden.
