Chapter 12: Battle of the Bewilderbeasts
On the battlefield, Valka's dragons swoop down to engage the attackers, picking up soldiers and carrying them off while Drago stands in the line of fire, unflinching.
The catapults continue to bring down the icy defenses of dragon mountain. Drago's men pour into the tunnels.
"Whatever comes, keep hitting the mountain!" Drago ordered his men. "We need to draw the alpha out." He told them as the dragons continued to snag some of his men away.
Drago's armored dragons take to the sky, clashing with Valka's dragons in the skies as they are either wrestling in the air or being dragged to the ground..
Drago turns to his men in the back "Ready the traps!" He ordered.
Iron jaws are opened like bear traps, revealing screeching `bait' dragons within. Valka's dragons swoop down to rescue them, only to be snapped up in the fearsome jaws.
A second set of traps are cocked open, but instead of dragon cries, Zippleback gas seeps out... followed by an explosion. The Thorstons twins rocket out of the trap, riding Barf and Belch while joined by Astrid, Henry and the rest of the Riders, bursting out of the traps atop Meatlug.
"Surprise! Yeah!" Tuffnut called out to the army in mocking them.
"WHAT?!" Drago yelled in shock and anger.
Sparkfire came in with Raeda on her back, she sent out spine shots that were close to Drago, who he managed to dodge out of the way as she flew to her friends.
Eret comes flying out last, wailing aboard Stormfly. He struggles to hold on, as he rejoins Astrid, riding Meatlug, along with Fishlegs. He gives them a sheepish shrug.
Astrid turned to him with a smile. "You really are full of surprises." he admitted as she leaps onto Stormfly, steadying them. "Let's go!" she called out to the other riders.
Together, the riders rocket across the sky. "Dragon Riders coming through!" Tuffnut announces as they charge at Drago's army.
"Fire!" Fishlegs called out to Meatlug as she shot one of Drago's machines.
Snotlout laughs as he lets Hookfang burn one of Drago's Catapults.
Henry and his five dragons then took out multiple nets and bola launchers while taking out many troops on the ground.
"Never mess with the Dragon Riders!" Henry called out.
Dagur gave his signature Berserker laugh as he and Sleuther flew down as Sleuther's tail grabbed three of Drago's men that were surrounding a dragon as Sleuther then slammed them together and dropped them to the ground.
'Yeah, baby!' Sleuther roared.
"Ooh! That never gets old!" Dagur said giggly as he gave his signature laugh.
Valeria and Camo turned invisible as they sneakingly knocked back Drago's armored dragons as they turned and turned visible again and Camo shot some acid at the troops below, knocking them back or bringing them up.
"Should've made armor protections from a Changewing." Valerie mocked with a chuckle.
The Thorston Twins dived-bomb the traps with Zippleback gas, Stormfly and Sparkfire then setting them aflame. The yokes and leather bindings restraining the bait dragons are incinerated, freeing them to fly away, unharmed thanks to their dragon scales.
"CUT THEM DOWN!" Drago ordered his men in rage to get rid of the riders.
Projectiles are launched, one of which knocks Ruffnut off her dragon. She plummets past Eret toward the rocky shore below.
"Eret, son of Eret!" Ruffnut called out to him as she suddenly grabbed her left arm before hitting the rocks. She looks up and sees Fishlegs grabbing her while looking heroic. Soft and romanticized as her epiphany dawns.
Above them, more catapults fire, bringing down massive spires of ice, directly over Raeda, Astrid and Eret.
"Up girl! To the left, Eret! That's it!" Astrid told him how to steer Stormfly as they dodge the spires and catapults from Drago's army. "Look out!" She called out about the spire.
It's about to crush them when... it's blown to pieces by a Night Fury fireball. The Haddock twins, Heather, Ragnar, Stoick, and Gobber come bursting through the flames on their dragons.
Hiccup, Hicca, Midnight and Toothless arc across the sky triumphantly in sync and set their sights on a downed dragon surrounded by soldiers.
Toothless blasts one of Drago's net launchers, knocking it onto its side. "Yeah baby!" Hiccup cheered.
Midnight blasts some of the soldiers around the launcher. "Good job girl!" She cheered for her dragon.
Stoick then chops the trigger line, firing the catapult and netting the throng of soldiers, freeing the dragon.
Some archers came into positions. "Take them down!" The archer ordered as they were readying their arrows.
Gobber and Ragnar came flying to them. "Heads up!/Coming through!" They called as Grump and Sully flew in from behind, knocking the archers out with their tails.
"Haha! I love doing that!" Gobber chuckles.
Ragnar then noticed more dragons coming in from behind and smirked, "Skully, let's show 'em your new move, Blazing Bone!"
Skully then whipped around, lit one of his tail bones on fire and flung it at the enemy dragon, knocking it away.
Another dragon tried to attack them from behind but was blown away by a small tornado. Ragnar turned and saw Heather flying over to him.
"Watch your back." She warned with a smirk.
Ragnar smirked back, "Right back at ya." He said before they both charged right back into the battle.
Drago hears Toothless and Midnight's high-pitched roars and turns to see them streaking across the sky.
"Dragon Masters." Drago muttered to himself with narrow eyes.
The Haddock twins to Astrid and Eret on Stormfly while Henry flew up next to them..
"Welcome aboard, dragon rider!" Hiccup announced to Eret.
"Thanks. I think." Eret said nervously while still trying to get used to Stormfly's saddle.
Astrid and Henry glared, both relieved and annoyed to see Hiccup and Hicca.
"Where have you two been?" Astrid asks the two.
"Yeah. We've been worried about you two." Henry added as he Wildstar shot a fireblast at a nearby soldier without looking.
"Oh you know." Hiccup began as he let his sister finish.
"Catching up with Mom." Hicca finished as that led Astrid and Henry shot a confusing glare at them. They nod skywards.
Astrid, Henry and Eret look up to Valka, in full warrior garb, rising from the towering ice spikes, atop Cloudjumper.
"Whoa..." Eret simply said in shock and awed.
An earth-trembling roar follows as the Bewilderbeast rises behind Valka, ready to fight for the protection of the nest.
"That's your mother?!" Astrid said to the Haddock twins in shock and amazement.
"Yes, she is." Hicca simply said with a smile,
"You know that explains so much about you two." Henry commented, now knowing where the Haddock twins got their love of dragons from while also shocked to see the Haddock twins' mother.
"Well, now you two know where we get our dramatic flair." Hiccup added as he and his sister spread out to back into the fight.
On the ground, Drago saw, gawking in awe as the great Bewilderbeast blasts an epic explosion of ice upon the attackers.
"The alpha! Now we have a fight!" Drago starred with a determined look on now it was time to get serious.
Valka blasts overhead on Cloudjumper, commanding swarms of dragons to swoop down and attack Drago's army. A swarm of Zipplebacks set themselves aflame and roll like fiery wagon wheels through the battlefield, scattering soldiers and destroying war machines.
One of them gets caught under a Dragon Swatter, but the Haddock twins and the two Night Furies double-back for a rescue. "There! Come on, guys! Show them what we got, guys!" Hiccup called out.
"Right behind you, bro!" Hicca stated as the Haddock twins flew down for an attack.
Toothless and Midnight dive-bombs the swatter and destroys it completely with a combined plasma-bolt, freeing the dragon.
Hiccup and Hicca cheered. "Thatta boy!" Hiccup said to Toothless.
"Nice shot girl!" Hicca cheered to Midnight as they continued the fight.
With Valka, on Cloudjumper as they pry Drago's armored dragons off of the flailing wild ones. A net suddenly envelops Cloudjumper. They crash heavily, but Valka cuts herself free, sliding to a stop just paces away from Drago.
"I've waited a long time for this!" Drago declares to her as he cocks his bullhook, ready to strike, but Valka deflects Drago's hit and attacks him.
"You cannot take our dragons!" Valka declared as she kicked Drago back. "They are controlled by the alpha!" she added.
Drago just simply gave a smug look at her. "Then it's a good thing I brought a challenger." he said casualty before he turns to the flagship and yells savagely, whirling his bullhook overhead.
The heavy chains are released. The underwater creature, now freed, breaks the surface in an epic cascade of seawater. It rises toward the shoreline, revealing itself to be a second Bewilderbeast, darker, meaner, and covered in scars that indicate years of training and abuse. The chains fall away from iron cuffs fastened to its much thicker and sharper tusks.
Valka gasps in shock and realization of Drago's plan with that poor Bewilderbeast.
"Holy Razorwhip Scales!" Valerie called out. "That dragon is massive!"
The Haddock twins and the other riders looked in shock and horrified. "Another one?" Hiccup asked horrified.
"I WAS WAY OFF! THAT IS A CLASS TEN! CLASS TEN!" Fishlegs called out in fear.
"Its tusk is even sharper than the other one's!" Raeda called out after seeing how sharp Drago's Bewilderbeast tusks are.
"And judging by its scars and cuffs on its tusks, I'm guessing that Drago found it as a hatchling and abused it constantly till it blindly followed his command!" Hicca added in horror and feeling sorry for that poor creature for something Drago did to it.
Toothless and Midnight grimace in rage, imagining what would happen to their hatchlings if Drago got his hands on them. Now determined to finish Drago if they can get by this battle.
Drago's challenger lumbers onto the beach, focused on Valka's Bewilderbeast.
Valka saw this and was worried as she realized Drago's plan: to kill her Bewilderbeast and have his own become the new alpha. "No. No." She said as she needed to stop Drago now more than ever.
"Come on! Take down the alpha!" Drago demanded his Bewilderbeast to get it to take down Valka's.
Valka attacks Drago with her bullhook, trying to stop his commands, but Drago strikes back, knocking her forcefully onto her back. He pins her as she struggles, removing her mask and staff. He's about to finish her off when he was suddenly knocked to the ground. He looks up, fuming, to see Stoick helping Valka to her feet.
"Thank you." Valka thanks her husband after removing her extra armor.
"For you, my dear... anything." Stoick said to her in a determined voice as he got his ax battle ready for Drago.
As Drago regains his weapon, drops his heavy cloak, revealing an armored covered arm and begins circling Stoick. Meanwhile Drago's Bewilderbeast confronts Valka's in a threat display and Valka's answers back with a clash of tusks.
"Val, do you think you can stop them?" Stoick asked his wife, fearing that their battle would kill them all.
"I'll do my best! Come on, Cloudjumper!" Valka calls out to her dragon as she cuts the nets away and hops onto Cloudjumper, flying off toward the Bewilderbeasts as they charge each other, clashing tusks.
Drago lunges at Stoick, swiping his bullhook. "You..." Drago said in shock on seeing his old enemy return, "I watch you burn!" He called out in disbelief as Stoick held him by the metal arm.
"It takes more than a little fire to kill me!" Stoick said in rage as in 'I've been waiting a long time for this' or as in 'it's time for some pay back!' as the two imposing warriors clash weapons, slashing and landing punches on each other.
Valka flies between the Bewilderbeasts, waving her staff commandingly, but to no effect as the two Bewilderbeast continue fighting.
On the ground at the exact same time with the bewilderbeasts, Drago and Stoick continue fighting each other as Drago hooks and yanks the ax out of Stoick's hands and hurls Stoick to the ground.
"Stoick!" Gobber said to his friend as he flies by and hurls his prosthetic mace attachment to him.
Stoick catches it and lands a direct hit on Drago as Drago stumbles back from the hit.
Everyone watches as the two Bewilderbeasts fought. But, with a devastating swipe, Drago's Bewilderbeast takes down Valka's, plunging in its tusks into its exposed underbelly, delivering the finishing blow.
"No!" Valka cried out in shock and sadness to see the king she lived among for twenty years, go down by Drago's.
The Haddock twins and the others watch in horror as Drago's Bewilderbeast roars in triumph to the skies as the Sanctaury dragons land and bow their heads down in acknowledgement of the new alpha -Dago's Alpha.
"What's happening?" Snotlout asked in worry.
"The King of Dragons possesses the power to make other dragons bow before it, willing or unwilling." Henry said in a grim tone, "And now, they bow to their new king
"This is the battle for the King of Dragons all over again." Hicca said in a shocked and dreadful voice realizing with her mother's Bewilderbeast dead, Drago's Bewilderbeast was now the new alpha.
Drago smiled triumphantly at his Bewilderbeast and saw Valka's perish. "We've won." He called out as points his bullhook toward Valka and Cloudjumper. "Now finish her!" hH ordered his Bewilderbeast to get rid of Valka.
Stoick whirls around, spotting Valka and Cloudjumper in the alpha's sight. "No!" he yelled out in fear.
Drago's Bewilderbeast inhales... and blasts! Valka steers Cloudjumper out of the way, but ice hits his tail, causing them to spiral out of control toward the icy spires.
"Hold on!" Stoick called out to his wife as he leapt onto Skullcrusher, spurring him into the air. "Skullcrusher, go! Come on, Gobber!" He called out to his friend as he tossed the mace back to Gobber in passing, who followed brazenly, waving it aloft.
"Right behind ya, Stoick!" Gobber announced as they flew to save Valka and hoped to stop the Bewilderbeast.
Right next to Dragon Mountain, Valka and Cloudjumper are still trapped next to Drago's Bewilderbeast. With Cloudjumper tail impaired, he struggles against a throng of oncoming dragons. Valka is knocked off, but manages to cling to her dragon's neck. As she loses her grip and falls…
Stoick leaps from Skullcrusher and catches Valka. He sinks his ax into an icy column, and they slide to a safe landing. Drago's Bewilderbeast presses closer, sniffing them out.

With Hiccup and Hicca, they've spotted Drago on the battlefield, commanding the Bewilderbeast to finish the job.
"Stop! Stop!" Hiccup yelled to Drago.
"Enough's enough, Drago!" Hicca yelled out as she and her brother landed their Night Furies a few paces from Drago and brazenly removed their helmets to reveal their faces.
Drago eyes them, incredulous, then begins to chuckle. "These... are the two great dragon masters? The Slayers of the Red Death, defeaters of my former successor, the children of Stoick the Vast? What a shame he must feel?" He mocked them.
Toothless and Midnight snarl, ready to blast, but Hiccup and Hicca calm them with a hand gesture.
"That's where you're wrong Drago." Hicca said in a stern voice.
Hiccup steps in with a stern as well. "All of this loss, and for what? To become unstoppable? To rule the world?" he asked incredulously at Drago, in response from him, Drago smirks and turns away from them, practically saying he was right.
"You have to stop this Drago." Hicca continued for her brother. "Dragons are kind, amazing creatures that can bring people together." she finished.
Drago laughs mockingly at them, he sets his bullhook to the ground and removes his false arm. "Or tear them apart." Drago replied as he revealed that his left arm is gone, nothing but a stump at his shoulder. The Haddock twins were taken back at the sight, having not known that Drago's arm was prosthetic like Hiccup's leg. "Could've used you for this Healer Dragon Master." he said mockingly to Hicca as she narrowed her eyes at him. He reattaches the prosthesis, circling the Haddock twins menacingly. "You see, I know what it is to live in fear. To see my village burned, my family taken." He stated as he told about his past while the Haddock twins kept an eye on him as he continued. "But even as a boy, left with nothing, I vowed to rise above the fear of dragons and liberate the world." He declared while he looked at the Bewilderbeast with the dragons from the nest and to his army circling behind the alpha.
"Then why a dragon army?" Hiccup asked.
Drago grins and smug at them. "Well, you need dragons to conquer other dragons." he simply said.
"Or maybe you need dragons to conquer people." Hiccup replied with narrow eyes.
"To use the fear of dragons to control those who are forced to follow you…" Hicca added with narrow eyes matching her brother.
"And to get rid of those who won't." Hiccup finished with a stern look.
Drago chuckles at them. "Clever children." He admits as he grabs his bullhook and re-approaches the Haddock twins.
"The world wants peace. And we have the answer, back on Berk." Hiccup suggested while Toothless and Midnight ready themselves.
"Just let us show you how to make peace with them." Hicca added, reaching her hand to Drago.
"NO!" Drago declined, "Let ME show both of YOU." He replied as he shrieks madly, calling over his Bewilderbeast.
Toothless and Midnight circles Hiccup and Hicca, protectively for anything that's gonna happen to them.

From the Bewilderbeast was about to blast Stoick and Valka. It hears Drago's distant wails, and approaches obediently.
Stoick and Valka saw this and are confused on where it is going.
"What?" Stoick asked in confusion as he followed its stare to the distant battlefield below. He spots Hiccup, Hicca, Midnight and Toothless a few paces from Drago.
"Hiccup! Hicca!" he yelled in a panicked voice as he rushed off. Valka follows, racing past Gobber as he finally joins them, winded from having run up the mountain. "Come on, Gobber!" he called out to him.
Gobber sighs tiredly. "Okay, change of plans." he muttered to himself as he hurried back down the mountain after them.

Back on the ground, Drago jabbed his bullhook into the ground commandingly. The Bewilderbeast flinches and stops, submissive.
"No dragon can resist the alpha's command." Drago explained. "So he who controls the alpha, controls them all." he added.
Drago points to Toothless and Midnight. The Bewilderbeast stares and hisses, forcing Toothless and Midnight to cower under a hypnotic ultrasonic broadcast. The two Night Furies struggle against the alpha's command, writhing and grinding their heads against the ground.
"Toothless? You okay, bud? What's going on with you two?" Hiccup asked his dragon in concern.
"Midnight? Are you alright girl?" Hicca asked worried to her dragon as she turned to glare at Drago. "What are you doing to them?!" She demanded.
"Oh, you will see." Drago simply said with a smirk. "Witness true strength. The strength of will over others."
Toothless and Midnight fights the command, shaking their heads in protest. The Bewilderbeast insists, with a mesmerizing glare and a low, throaty grumble until Toothless and Midnight finally succumbs to its control. They raise their heads, they stare vacant and robotic, as their pupils turn to thin slits.
"In the face of it, you two are nothing." Drago stated as he then pointed to Hiccup and Hicca.
'Kill them.' The Bewilderbeast ordered to Toothless and Midnight.
The two Night Furies slowly turn face to the Haddock Twins. Advancing on them.
"Uh, what did he just tell you two?" Hiccup asked the two dragons in slight fear.
"Midnight why are you looking at me like that?" Hicca asked in fear as she and her brother backed away from their mind controlled dragons.

Stoick is bounding across the ice, pushing himself to make it to Hiccup and Hicca in time.
On the mountain, the Night Furies kids are seeing the whole thing, being too young to be controlled by the alpha's control like the other hatchlings, they see their parents who are being controlled by the new alpha, and by their guess, were being controlled to kill the Haddock twins. So thinking quickly, the five Night Furies kids, with Darkie on the back of one of his siblings, flew out of the cave and heading straight to save Hiccup and Hicca.
Stoick saw the Night Furies younglings in the distance as they flew to where he was heading, he smiled, knowing that he wouldn't have time to save both his children. Both sides are heading straight for them.

Back with Hiccup and Hicca, they are both still backing against a fallen ice, with Toothless and Midnight advancing mindlessly, nowhere to run.
"Toothless, what's the matter with you? What're you doing?" Hiccup asked his dragon in fear.
"Midnight, you and Toothless need to fight it! Don't let this alpha take away your free wills!" Hicca pleaded with her dragon in attempts to get some sense into them back.
But their words were death to the mindless Night Furies as they both yawned their mouths. Gas seeps from their throats. Drago walked away, knowing that the two are toast.
"Knock it off! Stop! Snap out of it!" Hiccup called out to them but to no avail as their mind controlled dragons are inching closer to them.
Stoick barrels through ice formations and over war machines, racing against time as the Night Furies younglings are flying right beside him, racing against time as well.
"Toothless! No! Toothless! Don't!" Hiccup pleaded.
"Midnight! You can't do this! This isn't you!" Hicca pleaded as well.
"Hiccup! Hicca!" Stoick called out to his childrens in fear.
Toothless and Midnight charged up their plasma blasts to fire.
"STOP!" Hiccup and Hicca called out in terror.
"KIDS!" Stoick yells to them loud enough and close enough for the Haddock twins seeing their father about to run into the fray.
"DAD! NO!" Hiccup yelled out.
"DAD! STAY BACK!" Hicca yelled out next to their father.
Toothless and Midnight then fired their blasts at them, Stoick leaps in front of it, shoving Hiccup out of the way of Toothless' blast and at the same time, the Night Furies younglings came to Hicca and pounced her and themselves out of the way of Midnight's blast as it hit the pillars…But Stoick wasn't as fortunate.

With Valka, she heard the bast, horrified at what the Night Furies hit from their plasma blast as she came closer.
(Linebreak)
Back where the twins and their father are, Drago hears the explosion and glances back, to see the Haddock twins still alive but Stoick laying lifeless in the aftermath. Drago merely hummed concededly, accepting Stoick's death as better than nothing before shuffling onwards.
Hiccup and Hicca both got up from the ground, with the Night Furies cubs next to them. They were stunned by what happened and what their dragons did, the Night Furies cubs were a little shocked and horrified at what their parents had done. Hiccup and Hicca come to and see Stoick in the rubble. They rush past the still-entranced Midnight and Toothless with smoke emitting from the sides of their mouths, straining to scatter the ice boulders on top of Stoick's body.
"Dad!" The Haddock twins both cried out.
Valka arrives, winded and aghast. "Stoick…" She called softly to her husband but he did not respond. She helps children turn Stoick's body over. Valka presses her ear to Stoick's heart, confirming his death with a mere glance to Hiccup and Hicca. They tear up, overwhelmed.
"No…" Hiccup stammered while Hicca covered her mouth and started crying, realizing their father was gone.
The Night Furies cubs came to the Haddock twins' sides. Nuzzling and cooing sadly to the Haddock twins over the death of their parent's riders father.
Satisfied, the Bewilderbeast turns away, releasing Toothless and Midnight off the trance-like state.
'Wha… What happened?' Toothless roared in confusion as he shook his head.
Midnight looked up and saw their riders, children and their mother over Stoick's motionless body, 'Stoick?' She said in horror.
'Did, did I?' Toothless warbled in horror as he realized what happened.
Astrid, Henry, Eret, and the other riders then arrived, and saw Stoick's lifeless body. Astrid gasped in horror.
"It can't be." Henry denied, hoping this wasn't happening as he and Astrid rushed to the Haddock twins. Astrid held Hiccup from the back while Henry held Hicca close to his chest as she cried.
Gobber then came over as he removed his helmet as he stared heartbroken at the sight of Stoick, his old friend and the strongest warrior he'd ever known, now dead.
"No." Heather said in dread and wide eyes as Ragnar was just as shocked before Heather hugged him and cried as he slowly held her close.
"No. Not them. Not them either. Please don't let them feel the same pain." Dagur muttered in shock, wishing this kind of reaction wouldn't have happened to the Haddock twins like it did with their father.
The other riders were just as horrified as Raeda, Valerie and Ruffnut cried into their hands while Snotlout, Fishlegs and Tuffnut comforted them as best they could while shedding tears themselves. The dragons bowed their heads sadly at the loss of Stoick the Vast.
'No. No.' Toothless warbled in shock as he approached the grieving family while Midnight followed slowly behind him, sniffing Stoick's hand. 'S-Stoick. Come on. get up, y-your okay, I know you-'
"No! Get away from him!" Hiccup yelled angrily at Toothless pushing him away from Stoick.
'Hiccup…I, I didn't mean to…' Toothless recoiled innocently in guilt over what he had done.
"GO ON! GET OUT OF HERE!" Hiccup yelled angrily at both Toothless and Midnight in rage and grief at the loss of their father. "GET AWAY! BOTH OF YOU!"
Toothless and Midnight were shocked by what Hiccup said, but complied with his words as they both retreated like scolded dogs, ear plates back and head hung low, while Toothless carried a heart full of guilt, knowing Hiccup had every right to hate him for his crime.
Hicca watched, just broken-hearted, as she turned to Hiccup as he fell upon Stoick, inconsolable.
"It's not their fault. You know that, Hiccup." Hicca told her brother as the alpha bellows, calling all of the dragons to gather.
"Your sister is right, son. Good dragons under the control of bad people do bad things." Valka finished The Rider dragons' eyes turned into slits then all followed the command as the Riders called after them.
Drago notices Toothless tumble down a snow-bank, once again he and Midnight have slit-eyed and entranced, but while Toothless is unable to fly to the alpha without a rider while Midnight remained on the ground with him, even in the Bewilderbeast's control they still stick together. Drago pins Toothless down, eyeing the saddle, pedals, and prosthetic tail on him.
The Haddock twins and Valka watch with tears in their eyes alongside the Night Furies cubs before they hear Drago and turn to see him riding on Toothless with Midnight at his side.
"GATHER THE MEN AND MEET AT BERK!" Drago called out to his men as his soldiers cheered in the thousands.
