I am in no way a medical expert or doctor so this is just from my personal experience!
Mariner Bay...
The next morning Ryan woke up slowly from his sister's bedside. He rubbed his eyes. He looked up to see a nurse. "How is she?"
The nurse smiled sadly. "No change". Shee quietly excused herself as Ryan saw his family come in along with . Ryan didn't like the look on his face.
"I know how hard this must be on all of you. I am only letting Carter hear this to because he is family. Jay's vitals arent improving. Overnight as you slept Ryan we tried to ease the sedatives to try and get a response but no results this morning".
" what are you saying?" Ryan demanded.
The Doctor sighed sadly looking at each of them. "I'm saying this because the chances of Jay coming out of her coma are slim."
"Your saying we should let her go?" Bill managed keeping on eye on his baby girl.
"Sadly yes, you all, especially you Dana have seen cases like this during your time don't have to decide right now. Right now i am ordering you all go to eat and get some fresh air i am here if you need me". He told the family and left the room.
"No we are not doing this. She's still in there i know she is i will not unplug her" Ryan growled walking out of the room and the hospital.
"Dana" She turned to Carter. "Is it true what he is saying? that her chances are slim".
Dana wiped the tears from her crying eyes. "Yes. Typically people in these situations respond after sedation is lifted whether is twitching or feeling the tube but she didn't. "
Carter nodded and sat on the edge of the bed in silence.
Ryan found himself standing outside of the destroyed cafe. The vision of his sister on the ground still fresh in his mind.
"Ryan". He turned to see Tommy approaching. The two men hugged. "How is she?"
"Not good. They tried to wake her from the sedation to get repsonse but nothing. They, uh want us to let her go. told us that her chances of ever waking are slim to none. If it wasn't for me hiding things she wouldn't be in this situation. Tommy i can't do it. I can't just let her go".
Tommy gripped his shaking shoulders. "Listen to me this is not your fault okay. We can't just give up. She's gonna make it. She has to".
"Listen i am going to head home and grab a shower and fresh clothes. Go see her your part of her and our family to". Ryan told him as he walked away.
Tommy got to her room and knocked. He swallowed as his eyes landed on the broken girl in the bed. Dana walked over and hugged him tightly. "Thank you for coming".
"We'll give you some time alone". Carter offered as he led Dana and Bill out of the room. "You never retired did you?" Carter told him with a wink pointing to the news as it showed three rangers desstroying a monster. Tommy pulled up his sleeve showing Carter the black gem. "Black Tommy?".
Tommy grinned a little as he turned his attention towards the young girl. He pulled up a chair and sat down. "Hey shorty". He cleared his throat. "You know i remember the last time you were in a hospital you had just broken your elbow. I remember rushing you here after visiting you were terrified and all i had to do was bribe you with ice crream and you calmed down".
Tommy took her hand in his. "Come on Jaylynn don't give up now. Show us that your just as strong now as you were back then". Tommy pleaded stroking the huge bandage on her cheek that covered the cuts. "Please Jay prove the doctor wrong". He stayed there in silence.
Ryan walked back into the hospital. He found himself outside the chapel. He walked in to find it empty. He sat down. "You must think i am crazy for doing this". He blew out a breath. "I know i was never the perfect son, i was never the perfect big brother. I guess what i'm asking is please don't take her from me. Please give her a fighting chance. Jay is one of the most loving people i know, she deserves a second chance. Please" Ryan stood up on shaky legs and left the chapel.
Ryan walked back to Jay's room. Dana closed the door behind him. "What's wrong?"
"Son, we need to talk". Bill spoke approaching his son. "Ryan we each have decided-"
"No! Dad no! we are not-"
Dana cupped her brother's face. "Ryan look at me okay, you and I both know that Jay wouldn't want this." Dana pulled her heartbroken brother into her arms. Bill and Carter pulled them into a group hug. "Ryan we each had our time with her. Its your turn"
"Dana i can't, i can't say goodbye to her". He cried into her shoulder. Dana pulled away.
"We won't leave, we are all here." Bill told him. Ryan sat in the chair. Dr. Walsh stayed in the corner with Tommy next to him.
"Jaylynn, i'm so sorry. I sorry for letting you down" Ryan rested his forhead against hers. "Thank you for letting me in when i came back. Thank you for lighting my way. If you need to rest then its okay". Ryan kissed her cheek. He felt everyone stand around him. He nodded at the doctor.
Dr,Walsh laid his hand on the ventilator switch. "I'm sorry everyone". He watched as everyone each laid a hand on her.
"Wait!".
"Tommy? Tommy what?" Dana cried.
"Look. Unless my eyes are going blind i could have sworn her hand moved". He pointed to the hand Carter was standing next to. His eyes went wide as her finger twitched. "I knew it".
smiled. "Her pupils are reactive to the light."
"Does this mean she's going to be okay?" Carter asked hopeful.
"Look its a sign but i don't want to get ahead of myself until i see more. I will cut off all sedation and see where it goes for the next few hours." He nodded at the family and left the room.
The weight in the room began to lift slightly. "Look i may not be a captain of rangers but i am ordering everyone to go home or at least get some food." They looked at Bill Mitchell and saluted.
Tommy walked outside and felt a sense of relief. Tommy made sure he was alone and cried in relief as he let tears roll down his face. He jumped when he felt a hand touch his shoulder. "Kira?"
"Hi, sorry but we were worried about you". She told him with a smile as Conner joined them. "Ethan stayed behind just in case".
"Is your friend okay?" Conner asked his mentor.
Tommy rubbed his face. "I think so, we were about to let her go but i saw her hand move."
"Dr.O what is her name? how do you know her?" Kira asked him sitting next to him. Tommy smiled at her. Kira may be a tough girl on the outside but she has a pure heart.
"Her name is Jaylynn" They turned to see a taller guy. "She is my younger sister. I'm Ryan"
"The titanium ranger?" Conner sputtered."Nice to meet you sir".
"I'm Kira".
Ryan shook their hands. "Nice to meet you, i take it your the new rangers under his wing?" Ryan asked pointing to Tommy.
"Yeah". Kira told him with a nod.
"Don't worry your secret is safe with me, Tommy told Carter and I he was a ranger again". Ryan explained. "Thanks for coming. Listen i better get back inside but when things calm down i would love for Jay to meet you guys".
"I am glad she is going to be okay". Conner told him with a smile. Ryan nodded and went inside.
"Look you guys can stay as long as you want, why dont you guys take in the city i am going back in there. I will let you guys know how she is doing". Tommy told his two rangers.
Three Hours Later...
Over the past three hours Jaylynn proved she was a fighter. They had removed the tube from her throat and replaced with it an oxygen mask. The sun had gone down. Bill Mitchell was sitting next to his daughter while everyone was asleep.
He chuckled as he saw Ryan resting his head on Dana's. Carter had his head on Jay's right leg while Tommy was laying on the couch near the window.
"Oh Jay what a family we have built over the years and its clear your the heart of it. All you need to do honey is show me those blue eyes that you were blessed with". Bill whispered stroking her cheek. He glanced up to her face as she made a noise. "Jay?"
Seconds later Bill cried in relief as those baby blues appeared. "Oh thank heavens.". He felt her squeeze his hand. "Its okay baby, your okay" She looked around with her eyes, noticing everyone in her room. "Let me go get the doctor okay".
rushed in quietly. "Well what have we here. You young lady gave us a i need you to follow my light just with your eyes okay?" She did as she was told. "Good. Now your lungs sound a little congested but that should clear, does it hurt to breathe?"
She shook her head as he took the mask off and put a nasal cannula on. "Your throat is going to be sore for a while so for now just rest okay. But you have permission to rudely wake everyone". He told her with a wink. "I will be back later to check on her".
"Dad". She croaked.
"Shh don't talk". He kissed her cheek. Bill winked at her and threw a pillow at his son and daughter. They jolted awake but fell out of their chairs into the floor causing a bang making everyone wake up.
"Ow" Ryan groaned."What was that for?"
"Well I, should say someone decided you snore to loud". Bill chuckled as Ryan and Dana got back into the chair. Carter was rubbing his butt. "He does snore doesn't he?". Bill asked the girl who just smiled weakly.
"Jaylynn?" Carter whispered. She looked at him. "Welcome back".
"Jay" Ryan whispered as he climbed in next to her mindful of the wires. "I knew you would be okay, i just knew it". He spoke into her hair. Carter shook Tommy awake. Dana sat next to her legs taking both her hands in hers.
"Hey shorty". Tommy greeted looking at her face. She gave everyone a light smile.
"Excuse me but i think someone needs her rest you can all come back tomorrow". stated from the door. "However under the circumstances one person can stay"
Jay weakly gripped Ryan's arm. "We have a winner Ryan you can stay everyone else go home and get some rest".
Once everyone left. The doctor checked her over. He helped move her so Ryan could lay next to her.
"Jay you scared us, you scared me please Jay i'm so sorry".
"I'll go". She whispered.
"What?"
She weakly turned her head to look up at him. "I'll go"
"Don't worry about that right now okay, get some rest. Tomorrow is a new day". She nodded laying her head in his chest letting the medication take over. Ryan felt her body relax. He laid his head on top of hers and let sleep take him.
Note: So she is awake. next couple of chapters things will pick up.
