Catherine opened her eyes.
She could see clouds floating above her in the clear sky. Sitting up, Catherine realized that she was sitting in a clearing with grass growing in every direction. A tree stood at her back, and she leaned on it, catching her breath. The trip though time, or whatever that was, was more tiring than she expected. Even as a demigod, she felt as she was going to suffocate. Looking down at herself, Catherine realized that her Camp Half Blood T-shirt is hanging loosely from her shoulders. She had travelled to the time when she was about eleven or twelve, when Percy and she still didn't know of gods and myths. She observed her surroundings once again. This time, she spotted a few old-looking cottages in the distance.
It would probably be a good idea to go there, there would be people.
Suddenly realizing that Percy and the Timulator was nowhere to be seen, Catherine stood up quickly and walked around. Soon enough, she saw the 11-year-old Percy snoring away in a patch of grass. His orange T-shirt was, like hers, loose and too big for him. His arms were skinny and a little pale in the sunlight. The Timulator sat smoking and cracked at his side. Gods, it broken!
"Wake up, you sleepyhead," Catherine said, nudging Percy at the leg, "Come on, we're here."
"Cookies, delicious," Percy muttered in his sleep while chewing nothing in particular.
"Gods," Catherine murmured. She held out a hand and sensed the water pipes below the field. At her will, water exploded from the ground and splashing Percy on the face.
"Gah!" Percy yelled while jumping upright, "Holy Hera Catherine, what's that for?"
"You won't wake," Catherine replied with a shrug, "And the Timulator is apparently broken. You know how to fix it?"
"How come I know?" Percy asked in a voice much higher than his usual, turning his palms upward to show that he had nothing, "I am no son of Hephaestus! Why don't you tr-"
His voice was caught by a hissing noise coming from the Timulator, and a puff of green smoke billowed from the sphere. Percy jumped and backed away, looking genuinely scared.
"Gods of Olympus, what is that?" he yelled in a high-pitched voice, "Did I activate something?"
Catherine looked in a combination of interest and horror as a mummy-like structure rose from the smoke. It opened its mouth and another billow of smoke floated out with the smell of decay.
"Wait, isn't this the original Oracle of Delphi? Before Rachael came and replaced that mummy?" Catherine asked with surprise.
Before Percy could reply, the mummy opened its mouth, and it began to speak in a hissing voice, "Two shall travel through time and space,
to save their friends from Death's cruel pace.
Both two sides shall gain no pain,
for honor and glory shall come from rain."
After the final word, the mummy dissolved into a pile of sand, and the Timulator cracked open completely, leaving a small silvery bag on the floor.
Catherine turned and looked at Percy who was staring back.
"So, that's the prophecy I guess?" Percy said, "I get what the two lines mean, but the rest? It's a little misty."
"Yeah, and the line 'both two side shall gain no pain'. Which two sides? I don't get it," Catherine replied with a slight nod, "But let's not dwell on prophecies for now. It is always confusing. What's that?" Catherine indicated to the small bag on the floor.
"We'll see," Percy said, walking towards the bag and picked it up. He pulled the leather strings at the opening and yelled in surprise.
"What is it?" Catherine asked, hurrying forward. To her amazement, the bag was full of gold and bronze coins. These coins were smaller than drachmas, but they were not much lighter.
"I don't know," Percy said, "But it would be a good to idea to keep it."
"I agree," Catherine muttered, "Let's leave this field now, I don't think there's anything here. To say the truth, I don't even know where we are. In that direction, Percy. I saw houses over there."
After about half an hour of walking, the two reached the end of the grassy fields. In front of them, Catherine could see a row of houses by the side of a road. Catherine could see that the road was called "Pivot Drive". Although it seemed as if everything was normal here, she could sense powerful magic. Catherine wondered why would the gods send them here, to a place none of them had went to before. Then, something suddenly dawned on her.
"Oh my gods Percy!" Catherine yelled, grabbing Percy on the shoulder, "We are not even in America anymore! We are in London! In England! For gods sake why are we sent here? Is there a mistake?"
"Wait," Percy said, holding his hands up, "Wait. You say we are actually in England? The England England?"
"Yes, at least that's what I think so. I have seen these streets before in a book we once read in elementary school," Catherine said, biting her lip, "But why? Why are we sent here? Aren't we supposed to be in New York City saving our friends?"
"I don't know Catherine!" Percy replied in a bewildered voice, "First, let's ask somebody about when and where we are exactly."
He started walking towards the row of houses across the street. Unfortunately for Percy, he tripped and fell forwards. In order to break the fall, he instinctively held out his hand in front of him. Then, Catherine wasn't sure what happened exactly, but a bus suddenly appeared in front her brother who was still sprawled on the ground.
"Holy Hera!" Percy shouted and rolled away from the vehicle, "What just happened?"
Catherine held out her hand and pulled her brother up from the road and looked at the front of the bus. This vehicle was two-floors tall, with words were carved on the front of the bus in a fancy handwriting that made it hard for Catherine to understand the words.
"hTe nghKit suB?" Percy asked, squinting at the words. For someone who had dyslexia, it was almost impossible to read these letters.
"The Knight Bus," Catherine interpreted for Percy. She usually had no problems with letters, which is unnatural for a demigod. Even most kids in Cabin Six couldn't read English as fluently as she could.
Then, the doors of the bus slammed open, and teenager about 17 stood at the front. Catherine immediately took off the silver ring she wore on her index finger and the sword silverous appeared in her hand. This weapon was given to her from her father Poseidon when she went to visit him in his underwater palace. The sword hilt was silver, embedded with an emerald, and the blade was complete celestial bronze.
She pointed her sword at the young man and ordered in a firm voice, "Who are you? What is this bus?" Catherine could sense that this boy was not mortal, but not a demigod either.
"Gah!" yelled the boy in surprise, "Young lady could you not shove that sword of yours in people's faces so frequently?" He spoke in a strong British accent.
"Answer my question!" Catherine urged, pushing her sword closer towards the teenager.
"Fine, fine! My name is Stan Shunpike, okay?" the boy yelled, putting his hands above his head, "This bus is the Knight Bus, a convenient way of transportation for witches and wizards!"
"Witches and wizards?" Percy asked.
"I will tell you if you get this sword out of my face!" the boy, Stan said in defiance.
"Fine, but nothing suspicious, or I will personally send you to the Underworld," Catherine threatened and willed her sword back into a ring.
"Now tell," she ordered.
"Wait! Before that, are you going to somewhere? Diagon Alley, I suppose. Come aboard. I will explain on the way!" Stan said with a forced smile, "Any luggage?"
"What?" Catherine asked.
"Money please, for the transportation," Stan said, holding out a hand, completely ignoring her question.
"We don't have money," Percy explained.
"Oh none of that my young boy," Stan smiled, "I already saw the glint in that bag of yours. Hand it over please."
Percy not knowing what to do handed over the bag. Catherine looked intently at the man as he took a few bronze coins from the bag and threw it back to Percy.
"Now that's solved," Stan said, turning into the bus, "Follow me guys!"
