Restaurant to Another Remnant

Chapter Two: Interdimensional Meetings.

Written By Jlargent.

Me: Here we go with Chapter Two. I'm going to keep this author's note short since I feel like that, I need to focus on the story itself. I do not own Restaurant in Another World, nor do I own RWBY in any shape or form. Typical disclaimers apply. Also, I know some people do not like the first-person perspective that I use in my stories, but you have to understand this is how I work. I want to show how a person would feel about something as it was happening.

Ozpin's POV.

"According to Team RWBY the door to the Western Restaurant Nekoya was located where we place the relics." Glynda comments, the two of us were heading to the clearing where we place the relics. We change the conditions of the exam every year to prevent anyone from cheating, then again it doesn't stop most individuals from trying to sneak their way in.

"Professor Ozpin, we've arrived, and the door is right there." Glynda spoke snapping me out of my thoughts, I seem do be doing that a lot as of late. Getting deep into my thoughts and becoming distracted from the current task.

"Good, do we have everything we need?" I ask her.

"Yes, we have bronze and silver coins made from the pictures that Team RWBY have taken in order to pay their tab as well as additional coins to pay for our own meals. Books on the more recent history of Remnant, several vials of Dust as well as crystalized versions, and language books for beginner to intermediate levels." She reviewed the large box that she was levitating using her Telekinesis Semblance. I nodded in thanks.

"Good, I would rather not make a bad impression on our hosts by forgetting anything." I tell her.

"At least it is a good thing you convinced miss Rose and Miss Xaio Long that their uncle would not be attending this meeting." Glynda replied.

"Yes, I know that a five-star restaurant would not be Qrow's usual source of information, seeing as it is located in another world." I pointed out.

"That and if what his nieces say is true, he would possibly outdrink the dwarves that visit there. And leave us with a larger tab than necessary." She groused in agreement.

"Admittedly, Qrow's bluntness would be a breath of fresh air in an otherwise delicate diplomatic meeting, but I do agree that being intoxicated during a pivotal meeting would be more of a detriment." I agreed with Glynda. I smiled at the possible chaos that Qrow could do but that's neither here nor there, we stop right in front of the door to the "Western Restaurant Nekoya" I smile a bit at the whimsical door plate "I could see why most patrons would attend here, the sign is whimsical enough to warrant curiosity, but at the same time shows that it is a reputable restaurant." I mused.

"I do feel nostalgic though." Glynda replied.

"Oh?" I asked her.

"I had a cat like this when I was a child." Glynda commented "I was eight years old when I got her, I named her "Patches" because of the pattern of her fur." She sighs, I could see a small tear form in her eyes.

"What happened to Patches if it's okay to ask?" I inquired.

"Sadly, she passed away about a few years ago. Old age." She confessed.

"I'm sorry for your loss, Glynda." I tell her.

"Thank you, Ozpin." She tells me, she reaches into her skirt pocket to pull out a handkerchief. After wiping her eyes, she levitates the box behind her. She nodded and I pull the door open the sound of the bell rings out indicating that there is a new customer. There standing near the entrance was a young woman in a waitress outfit, her gold hair is a similar color to that of miss Xaio Long and the small goat horns would indicate that she is a Faunus, but I am well aware that Faunus does not exist in the "Other World" as was described, so going by that I can assume that she is a demon.

"Hi and welcome to the Western Restaurant Nekoya. New customers?" she asked.

"Yes, I do believe that the "Master" is expecting us today." I inform her.

"You must be from Remnant, right? My name is Aletta, and I will be serving you today." She introduces herself "I'm sorry that I did not get a chance to meet your students." She spoke.

"It's okay even the most dedicated worker needs to rest and recover at some point. You have a considerate employer to give you time off because he felt if you needed it." I tell her.

She smiled "If you would follow me to a table, I'll get your menus and water. I understand that you cannot read the words from either world so if you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them." She replies. We follow her to a corner booth, and already sitting there was an elderly man with a white beard that was long, next to him was a young woman dressed in a dark green dress, unless I miss my guess this was Victoria, which would make the man next to her Artorius her teacher in magic, and sitting at the end was a tanned young woman wearing clothing that is more suited for the harsh deserts of Vacuo.

"Greetings, you must be Headmaster Ozpin." Artorius greeted, extending his hand.

I return the gesture "Please call me Ozpin, Mister Artorius." I gestured to Glynda "This is my most trusted confidant Glynda Goodwitch, she is also a professor at Beacon Academy." I introduced.

Artorius laughed "Please call me Artorius, this isn't a diplomatic setting. We are all patrons here so why not relax a bit before we talk shop." He said and gestured to the two women "This is Victoria, she has been my student for many years, and this is Renner, she is the princess from the Kingdom of Sand, and she too is quite adept in magical theory." He introduces.

"It is a pleasure to meet the two of you. I would have loved to talk to Miss Schnee about Semblances having what was spoken about them from Victoria. Unfortunately, I was occupied with affairs of the crown since my stepbrother is away on his honeymoon. And I had just managed to secure enough time for this." She explains.

"Oh?" Glynda spoke.

"My brother is the rightful heir to the throne; we had discovered Nekoya on a patrol of our kingdom, and we've been customers since. In fact, it was here that we met Adelheid, the princess of the Grand Empire." She chuckles a bit "For my brother Shareef, it was love at first sight but by the gods was he a nervous wreck!" she sighs.

"That reminds me of Taiyang trying to get the attention of Summer when they were still attending Beacon." Glynda said sighing "It wasn't until the end of their third year that they started dating." She comments.

"And I walked away five hundred Lien richer from the staff betting pool." I commented, making her scowl and Artorius laugh.

"It's not that uncommon that teachers would place bets on student activities. But to bet on their love life? I must admit it is amusing." He commented before taking a sip of his beer.

"I don't really see the point of betting on one's romantic outcomes, to be honest." Victoria spoke taking a bite of her Pudding Ala Mode.

"To be fair to you, you're not really interested in romance despite your young age." Renner replied sipping her Melon Float "I would be lucky that I could find someone as nice out there." She sighs.

"Well, you are in a restaurant connected to various locations in your world so the odds of meeting someone like that are fairly high. Your brother met his wife here so you could meet someone you like as well." Victoria points out.

"I think you mean "Two Worlds" now that Nekoya is connected to Remnant. That means we could expect Huntsmen and Huntresses stumbling across this establishment." I commented.

"Did the Master find out how this happened? From what I understand his grandmother was the one that created the door to Nekoya. She must have some idea as to how or why this has happened." Victoria asks.

"He did contact his grandmother, but she has yet to respond. I would suspect that she may be looking into it but has not come up with an answer as of right now." Artorius answers "If I were to make a guess, I believe the magic that connects to Nekoya to the Other World and master's has either grown powerful enough to reach another world or that some sort of interference caused this to happen." He theorizes.

"Without looking at the magic itself to confirm this, that is about as good of a theory as any." Renner agreed "And we don't know for certain if connecting to Remnant was an accident or not if another party somehow managed to manipulate the magic involved." She continued.

Nekoya and use that for their own ends." Victoria spoke next "I must admit, when I was a child learning under Artorius, I was severely tempted to do the same but thankfully he prevented me from doing so." She tells us "I actually looked at the magic involved, and it was staggeringly complex in its simplicity and in what spells and components were used, and many of those components are materials that I do not recognize." She finishes, before the conversation could continue a voice in our heads made itself known.

Are you ready to order? The voice was young and female, and I slightly jump at the sudden intrusion.

"Ah, yes Kuro, we're ready to order." Artorius spoke "Please put their meal on my tab." He offered.

"That would no be necessary, we have silver and bronze coins to pay for our meals." Glynda replied pulling out a bag of coins that were in the box.

"Very well then, we would like another order of our usuals. As for our new friends…" Victoria ordered.

"I think I would like to try the "Western Omelet" and a coffee." Glynda orders.

"I believe I would like to have the "Chicken Katsu" and a cold tea." I order.

Your orders have been received. Kuro replied telepathically.

"I noticed that you did not react all that much when Kuro arrived." Victoria commented.

"One of our second-year students Fox Alistar has a Telepathy Semblance. So, it's not uncommon to "Hear" him speak." Glynda replied.

"What exactly is a "Semblance"? From what I understand it is a physical manifestation of the soul stemming from one's Aura." Renner asks.

"While we know a lot about the science of Aura, there are many mysteries that surround it. Some say that it came about when the gift of magic was taken away by the God of Darkness and that Humanity and Faunus learned how to manipulate the power of the soul in order to survive. And that knowledge was passed on to the next generation and so forth until Aura can be unlocked by others, and they develop a Semblance of their own." Glynda explains.

"There are ways to unlock one's Aura, the first is if another person uses theirs to unlock yours. This is usually done by parents so that their children can survive. Another method is being in a life-or-death situation, because the dangers Grimm pose it is not that uncommon that someone unlocks it so they could live. Semblances on the other hand are difficult to pin down since they are tailored to the user, some can even go through their entire life with an active Aura but never unlock a Semblance, though they make up a lack of Semblance with skill with hand-to-hand combat and weapons." I finished.

"So are all Semblances different from each other?" Victoria asks making note that she has a notebook with her and a quill so that she can take notes.

"Some Semblances are hereditary, for example the Schnee Family has a Semblance that allows the user to "Summon" a shade of a fallen enemy to serve as backup in battle. Weiss's older sister Winter prefers to summon an Alpha Beowolf, now imagine a Beowolf but white. That is a simplified version of what her Semblance can do." Glynda explains.

"But there are some Semblances that are more…subtle. One of my spies Qrow, his is called "Bad Luck Charm" and his can affect probability to where bad things can happen to enemies. However, he cannot turn it off and has a habit of activating when it's not needed causing him no end of grief. Because of this he tends to keep others at a distance so that they could not get hurt." I finish.

"Oh my, I'm sorry that happened to him." Artorius shook his head in sadness.

"He hides the pain with sarcasm, and alcohol and has gotten in more fights while attending Beacon than the average student." Glynda sighs "We initially wanted to invite him, but a delicate meeting would be detrimental, as well as the possibility of leaving with a larger tab than we entered with. From what I understand the Dwarves are heavy drinkers and I would suspect that Qrow can and will outdrink the two." She tells them.

Your orders are ready. Kuro spoke, this time there were no surprise reactions. She rolled a cart carrying the aforementioned orders. The smell from the cooked food made me realize how hungry I was, and judging from the look on Glynda's face she would readily agree. I calmly slice the chicken with my knife noting that the chicken was particularly tender, I stab the cut piece with my fork and proceed to eat it…

Bliss, thy name is Chicken Katsu. I thought as the tender breaded chicken makes my way down my throat, the spices that were used were subtle, but fitting for the dish. I decided to focus on the meal to see if I can identify the spices, while a few were familiar to me there were a few that I am unaware of It makes sense, in a world without Grimm new ways of cooking became prominent I mused taking delight in the simple meal. And before I knew it my plate was empty; I look over to Glynda and she has a look of disappointment that she could not enjoy the meal more.

"Excuse me Kuro, was it? Can we have another order of Western Omelet and Chicken Katsu please?" I asked the waitress.

Your order has been received. She heads off to inform the Master.

"While we wait, I have a gift for you." I tell our companions. Glynda levitates the box to an empty seat, and I open it "Inside are books on the language of Remnant, as well as Dust Crystals, and the more recent history of Remnant." I inform them.

Victoria pulls a Wind Dust Crystal out and looks it over with a critical eye before making a comment "I can sense magical energy coming from this crystal, but it's power is…muted as if it has been lessened." She informs us.

"That is a bit surprising. Dust actually loses its properties if it exits the planet, we have been trying for years to fix that problem but to no avail." Glynda tells them.

"Still, this is rather interesting so I will examine these crystals and see what I can do with them." Victoria spoke placing the crystal back into the box "And the three of us will work hard on the translation so that we can make a menu for customers of Remnant." Artorius nodded with her words.

"So, how about a lighter topic?" Glynda suggests.

"Oh, how so?" Renner asks.

"What are some of the customers like?" she asks. I admit that I myself am curious about the many patrons that visit on this one day a week.

"Well, we get all sorts of individuals. Romero and Julietta are a couple that I've met a few times, they're a bit on the shady side but they're nice overall, Sarah Gold, she's an adventurer that seeks out hidden treasures. From what I heard; her grandfather was a regular here before he passed away." Victoria commented.

"What about the rumor that Sarah is dating someone?" Renner asked.

"You know I never take stock in baseless rumors. Especially since she brutally refused Heinreich's marriage proposal at your brother's wedding reception." Victoria points out, rolling her eyes.

"I take it adventurers are similar to Huntsmen and Huntresses in by fulfilling requests like exterminating monsters and the like?" I ask Artorius.

"Yes, while most are in it for the fame and fortune. Others are more altruistic; they see it as a way to protect others. We have the Royal Army and Knights, but they can't be everywhere, thus that is why adventurers are needed." He explained.

"Huntsmen and Huntresses operate on a similar manner, after graduating a Huntsman Academy and are licensed they can operate wherever they desire, most tend to stick close to a certain area since smaller towns and villages are prime targets for Grimm or Bandits." I commented on that.

"Here you go." The Master arrived with the food delivering it himself rather than Kuro doing the job.

"I must say this is excellent food. I haven't had a meal this good in a very long time." I complimented.

"Well to do so would be an insult to what my grandfather built." He said, "But thanks for the praise anyway." He smiled.

"By the way I am curious, who else outside of your grandmother knows about your "Saturday Specials"?" I ask him.

"Very few actually, my supplier of ingredients, an old friend of my grandfather who runs a pawn shop I go to him every two months so I can get the Other World's currency changed into Japanese Yen, he's currently teaching his son how to run his business. And a member of my world's government, he's aware of the Other World and he makes sure that any suspicious activity does not spill over into my world. To be honest I don't know how he would react to the situation." He answers.

"If it helps, I hold a seat on the Vale Council, the primary government in the Kingdom of Vale. I could use my influence to make sure that any suspicious activity does not affect all three of our worlds." I promise the man.

"Well, that's a load off of my mind. We could see if anyone from the Other World can visit Remnant and vice versa." He suggests "My grandmother is actually from the Other World and due to an incident, she found herself in Japan and met my grandfather." He tells us "And according to her it is possible for those from the Other World to visit mine but only if I use the Master Key to do so." He continues "So far there hasn't been a need to do that, but I know that it could happen at some point." He finishes.

I nod at those words "I agree that it is better to prepare for an eventuality, but you shouldn't sacrifice your health to do so." I tell him.

"I get enough sleep and make sure that I am in excellent health. But I am entertaining the thought of taking Aletta as an apprentice." He informs us, shocking our companions.

"Really? I mean she's been working here for a year now. Are you sure that she can do it?" Artorius asks him.

"I won't know until I try. I cannot be around forever, so I will need someone to take over if something happens to me." He tells us "Aletta will undergo training until I deem her ready. And besides that, I trust her completely, she is the only person capable of taking over the Nekoya when it's time." He finishes.

"Well, I wish Miss Aletta the best under your tutelage." I tell him.

"Thank you for the encouragement." He said "Whelp, the food isn't going to cook itself. Have a good day." He commented before heading to the kitchen. After that time seemed to move fast and before we knew it, we had to leave.

"Well, that was an excellent meal. One that I haven't had in very long time." I said as we were about to leave.

"Be sure to come again!" Aletta comments as I open the door.

"I wonder how Aletta will react to suddenly becoming a sous chef?" Glynda asks me before stepping outside.

"WHHHHHHAAAAAAAAT!?" a feminine shout rings out as I close the door.

"I'd say rather well if you ask me." I joked.

The End.

Me: So that concludes Restaurant to Another Remnant. I know there was a massive info dump between the two chapters, but to be fair this is a First Contact scenario. Information is key to politics. Now some things I improvised, Glynda having a cat named Patches felt like it should be something she had a child and would fit the witch motif. Now I haven't read any of the light novels or manga, so I had to make up Master taking Aletta as a Sous Chef as a way to not only for a comedic end but also point out that Aletta is a demon and will outlive Master. So why not make her the next owner of Nekoya? I feel like it would suit her. Anyway, I am going to work on another Restaurant to Another World story so stay tuned.

As always Hoody Hoo!
