Chapter 9: Stranded: Tiffany and Stuart

Tiff and Stuart were on their way from the witness' house when the SUV broke down. "No, no, no. And it has to happen now that we're driving it," Stuart complained. "Wait, let me call a tow truck."

To his surprise, his partner slipped out of the passenger door and went to the front of the vehicle. He followed her out of curiosity.

Tiff, with her hands on her hips, stared at the open hood. "I think I can fix it."

"Are you sure? 'Cause I can just call the -"

Tiff interrupted, "Do you have any tools?"

Knowing better than to argue with his partner when she got her mind on something, he just went to get the basic tool bag he kept under the driver's seat. At least he knew where it was, even though he only knew half of what those tools are.

"So, when did you learn how to do this?" Stuart asked while Tiff began tinkering with the engine.

"Dad taught me, I mean us, when we were kids. He may not be around much since he had to work but he said fixing cars ain't just for boys. So he also taught me and Erika."

"Wow, that's cool."

She looked at him while wiping her hands with paper towels. "I think that's it, you should see if it works."

He hurriedly went and turned on the ignition. The vehicle roared back to life. "That was amazing," Stuart told his partner as she climbed in.

"Yeah, sometimes not growing up in Fifth Avenue has its advantages." She couldn't resist teasing him.

"And I've told you it's actually on 73rd, between -"

"Between Park and Madison, yeah, I remember," she said, causing Stuart to laugh as they drove off.
