Hundreds of years ago

"Father's late again, isn't he." Ma'at sighed softly as she bit into her breakfast which consisted of her favorite fruits. Stretching the wings on her back, Ma'at lightly slapped the back of Hathor's cow head. "Sit up straight. We're not savages."

"Yeah yeah." Hathor waved her off with a sardonic glare. Her glare soon disappeared and was replaced by a grin as she ate a falafel from her plate. "Did you hear what happened last night?"

Ma'at shook her head slowly. Every since she started her new job in the Land of the Dead, helping Thoth and Anubis judge those who wanted to enter the afterlife, she hadn't had much time to indulge herself in her sister's gossip. While most gossip was filled with lies and often aren't very truthful, even the weirdest of rumors held a sliver of truth, and Ma'at would always find out the truth. If it turned out that they were lying, well Ammit was always looking for her next meal. Watching liars suffer always made Ma'at's heart glad.

Hathor looked around the otherwise empty dining room, and motioned for Ma'at to come closer, which she did.

"I heard that Father brought home a pet from the mortal realm." Hathor whispered, her eyes darting around the dining room. Ma'at narrowed her eyes. That's not the complete truth. Father did find something, but Hathor truly believes what she was told. She's not lying, but the story changed somewhere along the way. Hathor kept talking. "I heard that he even called Grandma Neith saying that he's a dad now. Set, Isis and Sekhmet were spotted entering and leaving a room near Father's room."

Truth.

What the hell Dad? He wasn't even this excited when Hathor was born. Something weird was going on. Was it important? Most definitely since Isis came all the way here without an appointment. Taking a final bite of her fruit salad, Ma'at pushed her seat away from the table.

"Let's go, Hathor." Ma'at cracked her knuckles after she made sure that the peacock feather on her head was presentable.

"Hu were?" Hathor had managed to stuff her face full of food in the few seconds of silence that they had. Ma'at simply hardened her gaze as her sister swallowed the food with a loud gulp.

"We have a mystery to solve."

Ma'at didn't like it whenever people lied to her. Being the goddess of truth, balance, order harmony, law and justice meant that she had an important image to live up to. Lying was a sin, one that could cost the sinner greatly. As a result of her new job, most subjects gained a healthy fear of the young goddess. The fact that Ammit followed her around everywhere seemed to help establish that.

"Maaa'at it's too early in the morning for this. Father probably already left to go to work by now." Hathor complained as Ammit carried her on her back. "I need my beauty sleep."

"The sun is not up yet, so your argument is invalid." Ma'at fired back. Ammit huffed in agreement, the ever loyal goddess. The maids and butlers that served the Royal Egyptian family immediately ran in the opposite direction whenever they caught sight of the trio.

Even then, Ma'at could see that something was wrong. Maids ran around carrying flowers that were used whenever a new member of the royal family was announced, there were less people crowding the hallway that led to Father's room. How were they going to find out the source of this mystery?

There was only one room that had a guard posted outside of the room, in the form of Sekhmet.

"Ah I hate that bitch." Hathor muttered as she climbed off of Ammit and straightened her dress.

"Language." Ma'at grumbled as she marched towards the lion goddess. Sekhmet's eyes narrowed as soon as they walked into view. Ammit growled softly, her fur sticking up.

"Is my Father in there?" Ma'at asked with her hands behind her back, her eyes analyzing the taller and older goddess.

Sekhmet's eyes met Ma'at's for a second, then she turned them towards Ammit who stood a foot behind Ma'at.

"Yes." Sekhmet sighed.

Truth.

Ma'at had to fight her face to keep a smirk from forming. Whatever was in that room would be the answer to this mystery.

"Ok we're done. Let's go Ma-" Hathor started.

"Open the door." Ma'at demanded, hardening her gaze. This was going to bug her all day unless she figured it out.

"His Majesty ordered that no one should disturb him." Sekhmet said, tightening her grip on the staff that she held.

Truth.

"Good thing I'm not no one then." Ma'at couldn't stop the smirk from forming this time. "Let us through."

Sekhmet's eyes narrowed even more, a gesture that Ma'at returned. After what felt like an eternity, Selkhmet's eyes turned to Ammit and she sighed.

"Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you." Sekhmet took a few steps to the side. "Ammit stays out here though."

Ammit growled in response, but a wave from Ma'at calmed the Eater of Hearts who obediently sat on the floor.

"Let's go, Hathor." Grabbing her younger sister's hand, Ma'at barged into the room. Not even a few feet in, the two goddess froze at the sight that played in front of them.

"Who's a cutie patootie? Oh yes you is, oh yes you is." Father held a spoon made of gold as he attempted to feed a grey goddess that was several years younger than Hathor.

The young goddess didn't have an animal like most Egyptian gods and goddesses, with a 'normal' face similar to Ma'at's own. Dressed in a simple white dress of Egyptian design, the goddess was squirming around in her seat, refusing to open her mouth.

"The flying barge is about to make a landinggg." Father hummed as the goddess eyes widened when she caught sight of Ma'at and Hathor. Father quickly stuffed the spoon in her mouth once she was distracted. "Huzzah! I won again. Wait, what are you looking at?"

Father turned around, and jumped in the air screaming when his eyes met Ma'at's.

"Ma'at honey! Hehe what are you doing here?" Father stood in front of the grey goddess, attempting to obstruct their view.

Ma'at's eyes only narrowed into pinpoints.

"Hello Father."
