Hi, so this is my first story for this pairing and I have to admit I am liking it so far so let's see where it goes! I hope you all enjoy this story and this chapter.
Leah is criminally underused and criminally treated. She's the Rosalie of the Wolf Pack. Seriously the shit that she goes through because she's not skipping at the idea of being Emily's maid of honour (and seriously what the fuck possessed Emily to ask that? Like seriously Stephanie). So this story is a love letter to Leah.
I also have a huge amount of respect for Embry's Mom. Not sorry. Also I know she has a different name in the books to here but here she is Layla and she was seventeen when she got pregnant.
Also on Embry's father...I know a lot people assume it is Joshua Uley but somehow that seems to nice and neat, I also think it's pretty ironic, that both Jacob and Quill end up being friends with a kid who might be their half brother. So my views on Embry's Dad is that is has to be one of them and I do tend to lead towards Billy just for reasons I can't name. The council bit deciding whose parents should know and who doesn't is my own and I know it does not correlate with the books but then again this whole story is AU so (shrugs), I just think it's a fun angle to explore that everyone is terrified with who Embry's father could be.
Again, all of this is my own design, the characters belong to someone else, I am just playing in my writers box.

A First Time For Everything
Chapter 2-Count Me Out
Seth deflects, Leah considers her options, unbeknown to her so does Embry.
She didn't realise Seth was gone in her head for a while afterwards. Sam was so loud and Paul and Jared that she didn't realise her brother wasn't there until she noticed his physical absence and then…well…the last thing she was going to do was draw attention to that when her ex-boyfriend who had already ripped the face off the woman he claimed to love heart and soul and so she was not going to point out that her little brother had legged it go and protect the vampires.
Leah watched patiently belly on the floor not even trying to stand as the three men in the middle who were arguably the angriest kept howling. Quill ever the mother had wandered over to Colin and Brady both of them shaking their paws over their eyes. This was the first time that they had witnessed Sam's meltdown in true alpha mode and they were clearly not coping and she watched as Quill leaned his body in front of them so that his flank was blocking them from view.
Jesus Christ.
Embry was the only other one who was still there and he shifted ever so slightly so that he was next to her. Leah wanted to go and tell him to fuck off but there was something oddly comforting about him being here when her ex was till howling and Paul and Jared with him uncaring that the rest of them were either watching, having meltdowns themselves or had absconded.
"You okay?" he asked her quietly. Leah lifted her head and glared at him and then very pointedly (because it was bound to come out sooner or later) she looked to her left at the empty space where Seth had once been.
What was odd though was Embry didn't say anything. He must have known what it meant, he could have brought the whole thing down with his thoughts alone. She did not know if Seth had reached the border yet or if Sam was suicidal enough to go after him but he didn't give Sam the option.
"Figures" was the only thing he said and then he turned his head back to Sam.
"He like this when you were with him?"
It was such an odd question and it came out of such a left field that she didn't know how to respond with anything less than the truth.
"No he wasn't"
Embry hummed but didn't say anything else.
"He has a point you know." She said suddenly.
"Who?"
"Jacob."
He turned to her then his whole muzzle turning and then…
"Fucking hell can someone record that moment for posterity?"
"Fuck off" she said but she was smiling suddenly and despite the fact that this situation that they were in and briefly she wondered if that was what he had been going for. She might have misunderstood Embry, he seemed to all the world content to follow Jacob around but she was beginning to realise that he had his own set of rules and his own set of regulations and his own principals and that he was actually a lot smarter than she had considered.
Interesting.
How she had come to that conclusion in six or so minutes she still didn't know but she knew that she had.
And then just like that as she closed her eyes and contemplated telling her mother about Seth's defection—last time she had checked her mother was at Emily's helping out with bridesmaid dresses—traitor—there was a pause and then the big black dog that had been Leah's first…everything was in front of her looking down and Leah stood up on her legs uncaring of how they shook. Sam had better think twice before he told her to kneel ever again.
Perhaps the force of that notion shocked him because she thought she saw the black eyes flicker a little as if the man underneath had realised that he might have crossed another line with her but before the man could do anything about that (not that there was much he could do come to think of it) the wolf, the alpha, the leader was speaking and there was nothing that she could do but stare at him.
"Where is Seth?"
"Gone"
Paul huffed the ground and she got a flavour of the word bitch down the mental link and she almost felt like smiling. She could handle Paul, always had, always could and the day she couldn't was the day she had to leave La Push and never return.
That day was not today.
"Gone where?"
"Sam do I look like his fucking mother?"
"LEAH—"
"Where do you think he's gone? Hmm?"
She felt the shockwave down the pack line and she knew that they had come to the conclusion that he had done. That Jacob's defection was not just out of the ordinary. That it wasn't just an alpha's descendant that could do it. Jacob had deflected and that had opened up a whole other pack with an escape route needed. Not that Leah needed to think about that. To be honest she had already decided what she was going to do.
It was too perfect an opportunity not to.
"I'm going to transform back"
"Your going to do what now?"
"Unless of course anyone else wants to have this conversation with my mother?
Everyone stopped even Jared and Paul. Sam couldn't meet her eyes. She knew why. Nobody wanted to have this conversation with Sue Clearwater. Hell Leah was not going to have this conversation with Sue Clearwater and then before she could give more away she transformed uncaring that she was naked—after all it really was nothing they all hadn't seen before—and then she was gone walking through the forest stark naked and grinning because for the first time since this entire nightmare had begun she could see a way to escape it and who would have thought it? She owed it all to Bella Swan and her inability to not cause trouble for one day.
"Sam?"
"WHAT EMBRY?"
Great he was still pissed.
"I need to go home, my Mom is gonna go mad if she finds out about this and you don't need me there when you tell Billy and all that…you said I could tell my Mom I may as well do it now"
"Yeah you can't"
"Beg pardon"
Sam pawed the ground and gave a little sigh as if he was finding this an awkward conversation and Embry felt a flare of utter irritation because this was not how this was supposed to go. He knew there was a very good chance that Sam and he were half brothers and he knew there was a very good chance that the reason that Sam wanted his mother in the dark was because he didn't want to know if his father had been unfaithful before he had become a dead beat.
Call Embry cynical but he thought that most of the time they went hand in hand so what was the point?
"I can't let you tell her just yet?"
"Why?"
"I spoke to the council…they…they think it best in the present circumstances not to widen the circle—"
"Bullshit"
"Embry—"
"Everyone's parents know but me." he said flatly. "Even yours Sam. They all know but mine and don't pretend that it's because they were all there when it happened because we all know it's not. She's my Mom Sam and she's going out of her mind with worry. I mean seriously…what? What are Sue and Billy and Quill afraid…"
And then suddenly it made sense.
"Oh"
"Embry." He could hear the panic in Sam's thoughts and he knew he was right.
"It's because they're worried the second she knows she'll have to tell me who my father is"
Now everyone was looking awkwardly away from him and Embry knew he was right. Once it was out his mother would have to tell him who his father was. This was passed down through the male line and while everyone was hoping it was Joshua Uley there was a fear that it wasn't. Jacob had never cared, Quill had never cared, but their parents had, he had seen Billy look at him more than once as if he was trying to see…he had never asked his mother what was going on. He had never asked his mother who his father was and his mother had never told him but now it was clear that they were afraid. They were going to punish...
"She was seventeen Sam" he said quietly. "I know it's painful for you all but somehow I think it might be more painful for her. Whose the one whose most afraid then? Sue? Afraid her perfect husband cheated on her? Billy? Wondering if he played away when his wife was still warm in the coffin? Quill? When his wife and he separated that one time and she went back home? Come on. You think it's not hard for her raising her son here and everyone muttering about the seventeen year old homewrecking whore and her bastard—"
"Jesus" Paul muttered but for once Embry didn't think Paul was being unkind. Paul who knew what it was like because his own father was non-existent and his own mother had been young. Paul who too could be Sam's half brother if the rumours were true. Paul who had always been the one to tell Leah to shut up when she had gone on about it. Paul who had snarled at Edward Cullen when Edward Cullen had found out about it.
"Embry look" Sam said in a placating tone but Embry had, had enough and without another word he transformed back to human. Sam looked up at him muzzle pulled back in a snarl but Embry was gone walking back towards the edge of the forest where Leah had dumped their clothes. He found his nicely folded up against the tree and he shoved his shorts on running a hand through his hair.
God he was so fucking sick of this, so fucking sick of being controlled like this because of three…no…two fucking people who were scared to go home and tell their children they had played away from home. He had never met a situation where there was so muck fucking control.
He wondered if Sam would have ordered him not to ask his mother if he really wanted too and then he remembered Jacob when the story had come out when they were kids.
"I think it would be cool to have a brother. Sister's are boring"
Jacob's philosophy had not changed since then. He had stayed one hundred percent the same and Embry wanted to be by his brother's side come hell or come high water.
And once the thought was in his head he couldn't get rid of it.
He began to walk not trusting himself to turn back. If Sam got a whiff of what he was planning he'd be chained to Emily's front yard like a dog and that was not going to happen. He didn't know how he was going to do this, how he was going to get around Sam's gag order but if Jacob could do it then why couldn't he? If Jacob could tell a girl who had only been in the state for less than ten minutes then why couldn't he tell his mother?
And once he did he was sure that he would have to change packs.
God he could smell the bleach up his nose now.
It wasn't Sam's pack though, it wasn't Sam he had a problem with, wasn't the pack, it was the bureaucracy. As he walked he thought about the Council and he felt his hands shake.
If he was going to do something then he didn't have much time. Sam was a pragmatic thinker and once he put two and two together Embry knew he'd set Quill on him on babysitting duties and not even Claire would shake his friend away from that, Sam had a legitimate reason to worry, Quill had a legitimate reason to stay in La Push. Embry did not. Colin and Brady had parents, Jared and Paul were loyal to Sam through thick and thin. He was the wild card.
But there was someone else in all of this who was also a wild card and though he had never sought out her company in his life, she was also the one person that Embry thought might understand what was going through his head right now. God knows she had done a good job of hiding it but he had seen enough of her head to know what she was thinking.
She was seeing the out too.
He staggered back up the beech his feet cutting on the rocks and as the bare soles hit tarmac he looked around and found that he was grinning despite the seriousness of the situation.
Good thing there was no cops on the road. He didn't dare to wonder what he looked like. Epiphany he might be having but right now he reckoned he looked totally stoned to anyone that passed.
But the roads were deserted of man or wolf and so he turned and instead of walking home he went to the one person he never thought he would seek out but who he was sure would not only understand just what was running through his head, but why.
Leah.
And there you go, let me know what you think and I will see you soon.
Next Chapter-Leah and Embry have a conversation about men, father's, boyfriends and Alpha's. Leah also makes a decision and Embry...Embry makes one too.
