Hi, so this is my first story for this pairing and I have to admit I am liking it so far so let's see where it goes! I hope you all enjoy this story and this chapter.

Leah is criminally underused and criminally treated. She's the Rosalie of the Wolf Pack. Seriously the shit that she goes through because she's not skipping at the idea of being Emily's maid of honour (and seriously what the fuck possessed Emily to ask that? Like seriously Stephanie). So this story is a love letter to Leah.

I also have a huge amount of respect for Embry's Mom. Not sorry. Also I know she has a different name in the books to here but here she is Layla and she was seventeen when she got pregnant.

Also on Embry's father...I know a lot people assume it is Joshua Uley but somehow that seems to nice and neat, I also think it's pretty ironic, that both Jacob and Quill end up being friends with a kid who might be their half brother. So my views on Embry's Dad is that is has to be one of them and I do tend to lead towards Billy just for reasons I can't name. The council bit deciding whose parents should know and who doesn't is my own and I know it does not correlate with the books but then again this whole story is AU so (shrugs), I just think it's a fun angle to explore that everyone is terrified with who Embry's father could be.

Again, all of this is my own design, the characters belong to someone else, I am just playing in my writers box.

Also on a separate note-I HATE Bella in this part of the book, she does genuinely gaslight Jacob and It's explained as it all being the baby's fault. I know that some of it is on Nessie but I do believe that Bella didn't care much about his feelings. She does seem to walk through the books thinking that she can have her cake and eat it and while I actually do sympathise with Edward on this one I notice that he never does anything to stop her which is pretty ironic considering he was lowkey abusing Bella in Eclipse.

So if you are looking for sympathy in the next couple of chapters for Bella Swan then skip em. Because both Leah and Embry are going to give her some much deserved home truths.

And for reasons posted above, I enjoyed this chapter very much.

A First Time For Everything

Chapter 10-Listening To Fear

Bella gets some home truths Part 1. The Leah edition, then comes Part 2. The Embry version. Either way not pleasant and totally deserving maybe part one of a two part handler.

Leah as a wolf was fast.

Leah as a human was faster.

Jesus Leah as a human was faster. It was hard for Embry to keep up and he was fast.

And Seth was fast too and he managed to get up the stairs and through the door just as Embry did.

She was already in the house by the time the other two got there and Edward had stood up moving to protect his wife. Blondie was still sat there on the edge of the couch not looking as the three of them crowded in, in their human form.

"What happened?"

"Leah" Embry said skidding to a stop next to her and she paused turning her head to face him for a fraction of a second and then Embry spoke for all three of them. For him and Leah crowding the couple on the couch and for Seth who was leaning against the back wall watching them with dark and terribly blank eyes.

"What happened?" Embry said and Edward perhaps seeing their faces and hearing their thoughts spoke the truth to them.

Well…whitewashing his wife's behaviour at any rate. Honestly the two of them were just as bad as each other when you thought about it. The constantly making excuses up for why the other hurt people and treated the other one of them bad. Edward and Bella were the definition of a toxic relationship and neither one of them would or could see it. And Blondie had been the only one who from the start had not enabled this.

Crap. Embry knew that there was something within Blondie's cold, dead heart that he was inevitably going to like.

"We can hear the baby's voice" Edward said and there was an undercurrent of excitement in his voice that had never existed before.

"You're calling it a baby now" Embry said quietly. Edward had never done that before. He and Jake had been bonded by a desire to see this thing in Bella's belly gone and now Edward was calling it a baby and speaking of it with a tone of deep love and yet somehow this morning, not even ten minutes ago he had been for burning it in a trash can fire.

"I can hear it's thoughts" Edward said again—plainly he had decided to ignore Embry's thoughts which Embry knew were not nice.

"I can hear his thoughts—"

"Oh God it's boy now?"

"He doesn't want to hurt Bella, he adores Bella, he's…he's learning so much, he knows voices and sounds and shapes and he knows…it's a fully fledged mind in the womb. I can hear his thoughts and I know it's a person in there that loves it's Momma"

"And let me guess, Jacob just happened to walk in while all of this was going on?" Leah asked and her tone was poisonous in its sarcasm. Edward twisted his mouth and looked away and Embry got the distinct impression that Edward Cullen was deeply uncomfortable with that. Unlike all the petty mind games that he and Jacob had played on each other over the last few months trying to get Bella to pick them like a toy on the playground it had not been Edward's idea for this to happen, to rub Jacob's face in his happiness. To make him loose his entire family for this. For them all to lose their family for this…it was…it was….it was beyond maddening.

"Where is he?" Leah asked. "We know he took one of your cars, so where is he? Does he intend to come back at all?"

Her tone was biting and Edward shrugged and Embry felt fury hit him so strongly he was unable to breathe with it even for a second. He closed his eyes and breathed in and breathed out and tried to think of his Mom which was usually calmed him down (he was a Momma's boy so sue him) and yet that didn't make him feel calm.

Suddenly a hand came out and touched his and he opened his eyes again. So much for being angry, his wolf didn't just calm down it practically bent over (if wolves could do that) and desperate for her attention. Never mind Beta he was practically an Omega in heat.

Leah smiled at him once and then let go of his hand like he had burnt her and suddenly he was aware that Edward Cullen was tracking all of their movements with his eyes and that there was no way that he had not picked up on that thought chain.

"You can't take on all three of us before we do serious harm" Embry thought bitterly. "You tell her what I am thinking right now and you are dead…or at least missing the thing that got you into this mess in the first place"

Edward didn't look at him. Embry wasn't even sure that he had heard him. Edward's gaze was on Leah whose expression had turned off him back to Bella and who was positively feral.

"So you can hear your baby's thoughts" she said and it was in that clipped tone that never meant anything good. "Fantastic, so what, it's a thanks for your help but fuck off thing is it? Jake gives up his family and his Dad and his life for you and you say thanks but no thanks now we can hear the baby's thoughts? Go away Jake your cramping our style? Fuck off Jake your pain doesn't matter?"

"Wait? What?"

That was Bella and she peered around Edward's strong body her brown eyes wide with tears her hand straining over her pregnant belly and she stared at the three of them and Embry genuinely wondered if she had baby brain because the Bella that he had known in the garage with Jake when Edward had left her had not been the Bella that was here right now looking at him.

Christ how much damage could one vampire do?

"What do you mean? I don't want Jake in pain"

Leah laughed and even Seth closed his eyes to that one as if he was trying to keep his smile down within him and Bella turned to look at all three of them and suddenly she forced herself to stand Edward helping her because perhaps she had realised that the three of them standing here meant that she had screwed up.

Then again this was Bella Swan so there was probably no chance that, that was going to happen.

"What do you think you are doing?" Leah all but shouted. "Do you have any idea what it's like to be in his head, the pain that you put him through daily? The confusion, the twisted little hope that he holds onto, the bitter misery that engulfs him whenever he sees you light up like a cheap Christmas tree whenever you see him? Dear God woman you are married, you chose your bloodsucker and what? You keep him around so you can feel good about yourself? You keep him around so you can kick the dog is that it?"

"I don't want to hurt Jake" Bella said her eyes watering with tears. "I love him!"

"Oh for fucks sake—" Embry said before he could stop himself. Leah turned to look at him in surprise momentarily stunned into silence and had this been any other situation he would have laughed at the fact that he had somehow managed to stun Leah Clearwater into silence, not even Sam had managed to do that.

"Bella" he said as patiently as he could. "With all due respect to your condition, please never say that again."

That was apparently cause to give Leah permission to start again and this time her voice was very shrill and Embry realised with a swooping feeling that she was close to the breaking point.

And that Edward knew it.

Even Blondie was standing now.

"My God woman you are so selfish! You don't think do you? You just take, take, take. Jake has to give and give and give, he gives you his time, his heart, his soul! He gives you his family, his loyalty, his self-respect, he compromises his ethics and his morals and you laugh at him! You are not a stupid woman Bella and I hate how your bloodsucker has allowed you to believe that you are, you knew he was falling in love with you, you knew he was in love with you, you tried to manipulate him to stay out a fight that was about you! You have continually used his feelings as a way to make yourself feel good, Dear Lord woman you invited him to your fucking wedding and asked him to be your best man! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? WE ALL SEE IT EVEN YOUR FUCKING HUSBAND DOES AND NOW YOU DARE TO STAND THERE IN FRONT OF US AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP CRYING!"

It was like watching a train wreck about to happen Embry thought. He caught Seth's eye and Seth nodded. Within seconds they had Leah on the carpet and then the vampire that could manipulate emotions was there. Didn't make much of a difference to be honest because Leah was Leah and there was no way she was taken to the carpet without some kind of a fight but Seth who knew his sister better than Embry did managed to get a hold of her before she transformed and managed to get her out of the house. It was clear that she was seconds away from transforming and Embry watched scrambling up off the floor as Seth handled his sister. His back found the wall and he closed his eyes cracking his neck from side to side.

He closed his eyes and breathed in and breathed out trying to stop his hands from trembling but he didn't think that he was doing a good job. He didn't know how to make it so that he could look Bella in the eye or even be in the same room as her. He was so angry on his best friends behalf. God knows Jacob was never going to be angry for himself and he should be. It was so fucking unfair what they were doing to him. So toxic. So cruel.

And then the second the door banged shut Bella burst into terrible racking sobs and Embry cracked one eye open and stared at her and she caught his expression and started sobbing again her whole body pushing against the iron grip of her husband and trying to do…well…something and Embry couldn't take it anymore because out of everyone that had a right to cry in this situation Bella Swan was so far down at the bottom of the list that it was almost insulting to hear her sobs.

"Stop fucking crying" he snapped at her and she turned her eyes on his and Embry couldn't find it in him to muster up so much of an ounce of sympathy. He found that he had never hated a person more than he had hated her and clearly that thought transcribed across the mental channel or whatever the fuck it was because Edward snarled lightly under his breathe. He saw the pixie one come down to stare at the scene and he could almost laugh because Bella was bad but Bella was human. Here was a group of immortal enablers who didn't even consider their feelings to be real.

They were just the pack mutts.

"Embry that's not true"

"Course it is?"

"Embry I do love him—"

"You don't do what you have done to Jacob out of love Bella" he said in a tired tone. "A child knows that it is not love. You have kept him around knowing that you are going to destroy him one way or the other and I get that you think that you care for him but if you really did care for him, if you loved him the way that you claim to do then you would let him go, because die or not die you are never going to be the same after that baby is born and look me in the eyes and tell me you still don't expect him to be there anyway."

She couldn't do it. Embry didn't expect her to.

"You have used him time and time again for your own advantage and yet you stand here crying over him, protesting your love for him, Bella you are married with another man's…whatever that thing is inside of you! And you expect him to be here at your beck and call and what's worse is that your spoilt for him. You are toxic to be around and what's worse is that you are enabled by people who should know better. My best friend, my brother, in more ways than one no doubt is in pieces over you, he has just fled this house because of you, so will you please, stop fucking crying for five seconds so I can pick up the phone to my mother and not scare the shit out of her please? Begging and sobbing and pleading aint gonna make me like you"

She sniffed into her hand and finally allowed Blondie to shove her down on the couch. Edward shot him another reproachful look but Embry didn't care.

"You think I don't know what you have asked him to do when this is over" he called suddenly and he saw Edward stiffen and he smiled knowing he had the bastard right where he wanted.

"You think I don't know why he is so upset. He was banking on it wasn't he? The one bit of closure the two of you would allow him and you have taken that away from him. You know that you have to ask him permission right? You know he's the alpha now and you know you have to ask him? Destroys the image you are building as a peace loving leech if he says no doesn't it?"

Edward Cullen turned to look at him, look down at him sat on the floor but Embry looked back up smiling. He was aware that nearly all of the Cullen's were watching him, that the Doctor was watching him brow slightly furrowed and he smiled all teeth and no charm at the dumfounded look on Edward's face. He had not thought of that one. Bella was still sniffing on Blondie's shoulder but she was almost smirking. Blondie was exceptionally hard to read.

"We've given up everything for you" he said looking at Edward dead in the eye. "You do realise that we might never be able to go home, Seth and Leah might never be able to visit their Mom again, or their Dad's grave. We came here to help you. we are not your dogs for your protection, we are more human than any of you and we have feelings just the same way that we do. And yet you continually ask us to do more, concede more. Jacob is a human being with human thoughts and human feelings and the two of you have used and abused and chewed him up and spat him out and stomped on him. You both deserve each other. You are toxic to your very core and beyond any kind of help or redemption. And now" he said heaving himself to his feet and cracking his neck to the side.

"I am going to go and call my mother, who I might never be able to see in person ever again because you couldn't keep your dick in your pants. But that's alright Bella, you sit there and cry your pretty little eyes out and everyone can rush to comfort you because heaven help us all if you aren't feeling your usual sunshiny self. And then when Jacob comes back, if he comes back I am sure you can have him lie at your feet again to your hearts desire"

He finished with a sarcastic hand clap and pushed his way past the Doctor. He tended to use the phone in his office when he called his Mom and while he had already spoken to her today he needed to speak to her again. He was learning very quickly that his mother was his anchor to keeping his emotions down. Her and Leah.

What that said about him he really didn't know.

As for what it meant that he had left a room full of vampires and a human woman stunned into silence…well…he really didn't know either.

But there was something to be said for telling the truth.

Wasn't that what the good guys always said?

And there you go, so this was going to be a two parter but once I started writing I coudln't stop.

Next Chapter-Jacob gets some home truths from Embry. Because that's what brother's do. And then Bella drops her cup.
