Part III: An Explosive Trick.
At the center of National City lies a Statue of Supergirl I, where James Jesse aka the Trickster and his son, Axle Walker aka Prank are setting up the bomb by Adrian's instructions.
Wearing spectacles as he read the instructions, Jesse spoke "Let's see, Cupid said remember to..." After a moment of button pressing, the bomb beeped and read 'Ready' on the screen. "Ah, there we are!" he said, cackling with glee.
Likewise laughing in deranged excitement, Axle cheered "You did it, Dad! It worked!" he said, similarly gleeful about the coming chaos.
Suddenly he hears a crackle of thunder. Prank looked in the direction it came from to see a burst of lightning coming closer at great speed. Knowing what - or rather WHO - this was, Prank tried to get his dads attention. "Uh, Dad...?"
Giggling, James stood while grinning evilly. "Back to van, Junior. The Speed Freak and I need to talk." he said as he prepared for what was to come.
Axle, worried for his father, put his hand on the Tricksters arm. "But Dad..." he tried, only for his father to deliver to him a vicious back slap to the face.
"GO!" Jesse growled, then turned not caring as his son walked away dejected and rejected. "This is no place for children." he said with a menacing giggle.
As Prank leaves with his head down, the Flash arrives and the Trickster greets him as though they were old friends. "Flashy Boy! I was wondering when you'd get here. " he said cheerfully, to the son of his elder nemesis. He and the original Flash had been enemies for years until he was imprisoned and Jay retired. "You know I told Chase that Snart wouldn't be able to kill you." he admitted.
"Pity for you, Jessie." the Scarlet Speedster said, not running in as the only thing you could predict about the Trickster. He was as unpredictable as the Joker (one of many reasons why Batman suspected some sort of relation between the two).
Flash takes a couple of steps forward cautiously as he asses the area for any traps, until the bomb beeps and now displays the word 'Armed' on it.
Trickster notes the man's caution. "Looking a little jittery, Flashy." he joked. He then wags his finger in mocking caution. "Too much coffee for you, me thinks. I only took it off stand-by." He holds up a small handheld device. "It's THIS button you need to worry about." he said with an evil grin.
Not too far away, Valor flew in at speed, carrying White Canary in his arms and Supergirl II at his side. "There they are." Sara said, spotting her husband and the madman. "Just keep him talking, Barry." she said to herself. She knew that if Barry wasn't just grabbing the man, then he had an important reason.
Further away but nearing, Batman was on his bike coming in fast with Martian Manhunter carrying Green Arrow, while Superman is flying beside in equal speed. The Martian turned to the Kryptonian. "Don't wait for us, Clark! Go!" he said.
Clark nodded and shot off.
Barry tried to convince his enemy. "You push that button and four million die!"
"Four million and TWO, Dearie." he corrected the man. "I was going to enjoy the fireworks from a safe distance, but now that you're here... what say we have one last dance."
As though in slow motion, Trickster was going to press the button as Flash rushes to stop him. Most of the Justice League arrives to stop him until sparks covers around Valor, White Canary, Martian Manhunter, Batman and Green Arrow as Supergirl II looks at Sara in confusion.
Soon, as The Flash was near Trickster, two jolts of lightning bolts seemingly shock them. And then, suddenly...
Earth-13
... they find themselves in a seemingly different location, just as Flash successfully tackles Trickster, unknowing if Trickster did push the button on time. Flash shakes his head as his body crackles with his now yellow lightning, but now mixed with blue of the breach.
Standing up Flash looks around as the location there in looks different. Flash recognizes the location by Supergirls statue (which, instead of her holding up the world, now had her standing ON TOP of the world in an intimidating and dominating pose) despite the odd logo on the screen and the new futuristic buildings. He also notes that it is now sunset, rather than early afternoon as it was not moments ago.
The Trickster on the other hand gets up and checks on the switch but he realizes it didn't turn on. "Come on! Work, you stupid thing!" he said in frustration. Annoyed, he threw the now non-working device to the floor. He then glared at his enemy who was still looking at their different surroundings, seemingly ignoring the Trickster.
"This is somehow YOUR fault!" he growled, before trying to punch the Flash while he wasn't looking.
Seemingly ignoring his nemesis, Barry assessed his surroundings. "This is National City. But what..." he was interrupted when Trickster took a swing at him, only for the Flash to grab his fist without looking. He then twisted his wrist painfully before punching the Trickster in the stomach, sending him tumbling back.
Steadying himself, Jesse growled. "Maybe I was too sentimental before. I'll be fine without you!" he grinned evilly, pulling out a long sharp knife.
As the two arch-enemies began to fight it became apparent that, despite being visibly slightly slower, the Flash was still able to easily gain the upper-hand. He knocked the Trickster back, who responded by throwing his knife at Barry. However, the Flash simply knocked it out of the air at speed and punched Jesse in the face knocking him back.
"Now stay down!" he growled to his enemy. James Jesse tries one last attempt, only for the Flash to kick him in the shin and knock him to the floor. The Scarlet Speedster grabbed his wrist and held the back of his head to restrain him. Sirens could be heard, most likely drawn to reports of the fight. "And keep quiet." he ordered.
But soon, the Flash realizes that he is in trouble as they are surrounded by hordes of militia-like vehicles, soldiers dressed in black uniforms and even helicopters of all things. All of them pointing their weapons at HIM!
"Hands up!" One of the soldiers shouted. Barry noticed that he and all the others were wearing the same insignia as on the buildings. The soldier repeated his order. "I said hands ups, Speed Freak! Do it or you're dead!" he ordered with more aggression. Barry just looked confused, even as he tried to see a way out.
Jesse giggled. "Now that's funny!" he noted with a smirk.
The Flash does as he is told, raising his hands, but goes into Flashtime to observe the situation. Then, before anyone can say or do anything, he begins to move at superspeed, creating after images which distracts the soldiers while he escapes. The soldiers all fire at the images but hit nothing. Unfortunately the Trickster is able to escape also.
At night, Barry speeds onto a rooftop but stumbles as his body sparks with blue electricity. His body felt strange, though thankfully not as it had been during the Crisis.
Breathing heavily in exhaustion, Barry, hearing voices from below him, looked over the edge of the building to the street to see some of the soldiers arresting people and escorting them into a truck at gunpoint.
"Amateurs!" One of the soldiers said as he shoved someone into the back of a truck. "Next time, wipe your drive!" he said in a mocking tone, that indicated that there wasn't going to BE a next time.
'What the hell?!' Barry thought to himself, wondering what the hell was going on here.
Another thug spoke, their voices were similarly distorted by their masks. "They're not Insurgents?" the way this was asked as well as this persons slightly higher pitch, made Barry wonder if they were new to this.
"Just some punks." The clearly more experienced thug said dismissively. "Like that Rouges Gang Freak we almost had earlier. The one dressed up like the Trickster." The thug shook his head in anger, that was clear in both voice and body movement. "I still can't believe we lost the Fucking Flash!" he growled.
"Yeah... Let's hope the Boss Lady doesn't find out." The younger soldier said, his voice filled with fear at the thought.
Barry tilted his head back against the concrete behind him, and let out a breath as the situation hit him. "I'm in a nightmare." he said.
He hoped the others were okay.
There we go. The last of my previously written chapters done. I already have the beginning of the next one written, but I hope to have it up soon.
Hope you enjoyed it.
