AN: Sorry about the long delay getting this out. I got back from my family reunion and then got diagnosed with Covid only a couple days later. Took forever just to be able to recover enough to find the energy to write these posts, even with how short they are. Still, next ones will be longer, I promise.
AN2: The Omake is just a dumb little idea I had that I wished to include.
What Doesn't Kill Me 38
Chapter 38
-Nezu-
Running a paw down his face, Nezu sat across from the MLA lieutenant Trumpet, Re-Destro currently getting a tour of the support course area to look for potential students to offer internships to at Detnerat.
"My apologies for the limited success." Trumpet had a scowl on his face as he settled into the chair, the man clearly not happy with what had happened with parliament.
"We knew this was a possibility." Nezu sighed, stirring his tea, "Luckily we mitigated most of the issue."
"Barely." Trumpet scowls. In the couple weeks since he'd first met with the MLA faction, parliament had pushed further and faster with the motion. In the end, Midoriya had been given something akin to a provisional license. The Commission and the factions pushing had pointed out that anyone who could be such a massive help in taking down Stain, someone who'd killed or crippled dozens of respected pro heroes, was clearly not just some regular student. Thankfully, Trumpet and public opinion pushback thanks to Curious, had things be limited.
Midoriya would do patrols in the general area around UA and Mustafu in the afternoons, the various heroes he'd patrol with would offer more lessons on factors such as hero law, filing paperwork, and other hero aspects that Midoriya wouldn't have had a chance to learn yet. The Mornings would have the young man still be at the school to attend his regular courses. Not to mention things such as Exam days and the training camps.
"I suppose it is better than the alternative. Gang Orca and Mirko have offered to look after the kid when they can on these patrols." Trumpet nodded, the one solid victory had been preventing the commission from 'assigning' Midoriya to anyone of their choosing.
"I received similar offers from Sir Nighteye, Fatgum, Ryukyu, and Endeavor as well." Nezu smirked, enjoying getting one up over the commission even if it toed the line of a pyrrhic victory.
"So at least there's that." Trumpet nodded before grimacing, "Also, I have a warning for you out of good faith. Curious is quite…eager to interview that Midoriya boy."
"Oh…well this will be interesting."
-Izuku-
"Good work today kid." Gang Orca gave him a thumbs up as they got back to UA, the daily 'patrol' having wrapped up.
"Thanks." Izuku grinned back at his mentor, glad he at least got to patrol with Heroes who were supportive. The whole incident left a bad taste in his mouth and felt wrong, but he couldn't place his finger on what exactly about it bugged him.
"How's that melee weapon for your transformed state coming along?" Orca asked as they walked to the locker rooms where Izuku was supposed to store his hero uniform until he was deemed fully graduated.
"It's going. The Support course are apparently still arguing between a spear, an axe, or a hammer." Izuku chuckled sheepishly, glad he at least had his cement pistol.
"Well let me know when they've got one made. I'll see if any of my sidekicks can help with training, or I'll find another pro who can help." Gang Orca gave him a slap on the back, nodding to some shocked gen ed students.
"Right!" Izuku grinned wider, "I'll just have to make it through tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" Izuku's mentor looked confused, "Mirko again?"
"No…actually, tomorrow I'll be patrolling with Endeavor." Izuku winced, "He's the dad of one of my friends. And I'm pretty sure there's some family drama I don't know about on top of the fact I know how often people pester Endeavor on his patrols about his attitude."
"Yes, he does have a lot of mixed opinions from the general public." Gang Orca nodded, "But still he's a strong and determined hero. I expect you to do your best to learn all you can from him."
"Yes sir." Izuku nodded with a grin, quickly taking off and putting away his uniform while Gang Orca set back out to finish his own proper patrol. As he wrapped up, Izuku could hear the sound of his friends heading down the hall to meet him.
Life might not be normal, might not be what he expected, but there was still good in it.
-Omake-
-Izuku-
Sighing, Izuku ignored yet another sneak attack from Mirko as they went about their patrol. The hero he shadowed for these changed from day to day and each one had their own habits and quirks he had to get used to. Mirko's just so happened to be that she was determined to catch him off guard. He'd actually blocked at first but after awhile he just stopped bothering and ignored her.
Her reactions were much more amusing that way.
"Damnit kid!" Mirko grumbled as her latest surprise kick didn't even make him budge, let alone react, "Do you just lay there for your girlfriend too?"
"The difference is my girlfriend can actually make me feel something." Izuku didn't even miss a beat as he shot right back at his hotheaded mentor.
"Oh, it's on now twerp."
