Haley, Ariel and Flounder continued to swim through the sea before they reached the shipwreck that Flounder had found. "There it is." Flounder said, pointing at the shipwreck.
Ariel smiled. "Alright, let's go inside." She said as she swam over to the shipwreck.
"Right behind you, Ariel." Haley smiled as well as she followed the red haired mermaid. They were soon inside the shipwreck.
"Alright, let's go look for stuff from the surface world. Maybe there's stuff inside this shipwreck that isn't part of my collection yet." Ariel said.
Haley nodded at that. "Okay, I'll look over there." She as she pointed in a direction and swam off.
"Guess I'll look around for anything new as well." Flounder said as he also swam off in a direction.
After searching around the ship for a bit, Haley, Ariel and Flounder did a rendezvous with each other. "I found this object right here." Ariel told Haley and Flounder as she held up a fork.
Haley smiled at the sight of the fork. "A fork...Those are quite common where I'm from...I bet Ariel would be quite disappointed if I told her what it is and what they used it for, so instead I'll let her friend from the surface tell her." She thought to herself.
"What did you guys find?" Ariel then asked Haley and Flounder.
"Well, I found this thing right here." Haley replied as she held up a pair of swimming goggles. "Given that I'm a human, I know what it's for, but I think I'll let your friend from the surface give his assessment of it." She told Ariel.
Ariel smiled at that. "That's really sweet of you, Haley! I'm sure my friend would appreciate it!" The red haired mermaid beamed before turning to Flounder. "And what did you find, Flounder?" She asked the young fish.
"I found this object, Ariel." Flounder replied as he showed Ariel a smoke pipe.
"Alright, this should be enough for today! All of this stuff is not in my collection yet, so let's take it to Scuttle for assessment and then bring it back to my grotto!" Ariel said as she put the stuff the trio found into her bag and then swam out of the shipwreck with Haley and Flounder following behind. The trio then began to swim towards the surface.
As they were doing so, Haley began to think of something: What did mermaids eat, and how did they get it? Now that she was a mermaid, she had to get herself familiar with the natural lifestyle of a mermaid. "Hey, Ariel. Can I ask you a question?" The pink haired mermaid asked Ariel.
"Sure, Haley. What's the matter?" Ariel asked Haley, looking at her as they swam.
"What do mermaids eat, and how do they get it? Now that I'm a mermaid, and I'm going to be living as one for a while, I thought it'd be better to get myself familiar with the natural lifestyle of a mermaid." Haley replied as she rubbed her right arm sheepishly.
"Well, us merfolk are vegetarian people out of respect for the fish that we live alongside. So we mostly eat seaweed, algae and other underwater plants. I hope you're alright with it." Ariel replied with a sheepish smile.
Haley nodded at that. "Of course I'm fine with that. I'll eat anything to keep myself fed while I'm living underwater." She reassured Ariel with a beaming smile.
Ariel smiled at that. "I'm glad to hear that. Now let's continue on our way." She replied back as the trio continued to swim towards the surface.
"I'm glad you're not going to eat me or my kind. I've regularly had nightmares about your kind eating me..." Flounder shivered in fear at the thought of being eaten by humans.
Haley smiled as she placed her hand on Flounder's head as they swam. "No worries, Flounder. I wouldn't eat you and your fellow fish. I'm not really the type to eat seafood in general." She assured Flounder.
Flounder smiled back as Haley's words put him at ease. "That's a relief...You're probably not like most humans up there. You might actually be one that King Triton could trust." He said.
"King Triton doesn't really trust humans?" Haley asked curiously.
Ariel shook her head. "Not really...He despises humans because of what they did to my mother when I was little...He's forbidden anyone in Atlantica to head up to the surface because of it. I just wish he would understand that not all humans are bad, but trying to reason with him about humans is just not worth the time. That's why I keep my collection of stuff from the surface world a secret from him. I can't imagine how he'd feel if he found out about it." The red haired mermaid told Haley with a sigh.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Ariel. Hopefully one day he'll see the surface world through your eyes." Haley replied to Ariel.
"Maybe, maybe." Ariel nodded. Haley, Ariel and Flounder then proceeded to reach the surface, where Scuttle was waiting for them. Scuttle was a seagull who helped Ariel by assessing the stuff from the surface world she collected, and Scuttle smiled as he saw Haley, Ariel and Flounder arrive.
"Ah, Ariel, Flounder! Nice to see you again!" Scuttle squawked happily. Haley couldn't help but giggle a little bit. She had no idea that there were animals that were capable of speech around this part of the world. Scuttle then noticed her. "Say, who's this mermaid?" He asked Ariel and Flounder.
"Oh, her? Let her introduce herself." Ariel smiled as she gestured to Haley.
Haley smiled as she looked at Scuttle. "My name is Haley Dunphy. I'm a human who transformed into a mermaid after I put a magic necklace on. You must be Scuttle." Haley told Scuttle.
Scuttle was surprised by this. "Huh...I never thought that a human would become a mermaid and live in the sea. I would've expected you to be born a mermaid like Ariel and want to become a human and live on the land. But I suppose it can work the other way around as well." He replied to Haley.
Ariel smiled and nodded. "Anyway, we found some items from the surface world and we'd like you to take a look at them." She told Scuttle as she first showed him the fork.
"Hmmmm...Oh ho! This is a digglehopper! Humans use this to brush their hair, or if you have feathers like me, you could also use this to brush your feathers!" Scuttle explained to Ariel and Flounder as he began to use the fork to brush through his feathers.
Ariel and Flounder were impressed by this, while Haley just giggled. She could see why Scuttle would think that the fork was used as a hairbrush by humans, since it sort of resembled a hairbrush in a way. Still, she couldn't help but find the seagull's inaccurate assessment of the fork funny.
"What about this thing?" Flounder asked as he took the smoke pipe out of Ariel's bag and handed it to Scuttle.
"Oh, this? This is a snartflat. Humans use it to make music." Scuttle explained.
Flounder raised an eyebrow. "How do they make music with it?" He asked.
"Like this." Scuttle explained as he blew into the pipe. Haley once again giggled at Scuttle's inaccurate assessment of the smoke pipe. She could still see why he would think this was what humans used the smoke pipe for, so she didn't say anything about it. She then reached into Ariel's bag and got the swimming goggles out of it.
"And what about this thing?" Haley asked Scuttle as she handed the seagull the swimming goggles.
"As for this...It's a fishpeeper. Humans use it to peep at the fishes." Scuttle told her.
Haley nodded at that. "Alright."
"I don't see the need to use such a thing to look at fishes when us merfolk can already look at the fishes perfectly fine." Ariel shrugged at that. "But still, thanks for telling us this, Scuttle. Now I can bring this stuff back to my grotto." She told Scuttle with a smile.
Scuttle smiled back and nodded. "Anytime, Ariel. If you find more, don't hesitate to bring it to me." He told Ariel.
"Alright. We'll get going now. Bye, Scuttle!" Ariel said as she put the items back into her bag.
"Alright, bye!" Scuttle waved as Haley, Ariel and Flounder dove back under the water and began swimming towards Ariel's grotto.
