Twirling my iron fans, I whistled a tune and sat on the ledge of the building as I waited for Spiderman for our nightly ventures of crime fighting.

Hearing a light thump behind me, I whipped open my fan and was about to launch it only to see the familiar red and blue suit.

"Oh hey," I nonchalantly said as I closed it.

"You should know that it's me when we meet up here," He said as he gave me a hand getting up.

I shrugged, "Or it could be a bad guy that found our secret spot and tried to take me out from behind."

"That wouldn't happen."

I gave him a look before I perched myself on his back.

"See any crime when you were swinging my way?" I asked.

"I did stop one guy who stole someone's bike. Other than that, no."

He swung us around for a bit.

"I don't think I've ever asked you this, but do you play Mortal Kombat?"

That's a random question.

"Yeah. Why?"

"Ahh. So that explains the fans…" He said. "Oh! There's a speeding van up ahead."

Suddenly, we were freefalling until he shot his web at a nearby building.

A cop car tried to cut the van off, but the van rammed against it at full speed and knocked them away.

Three other cop cars were in pursuit.

"When we get close enough, drop me on the hood."

"What? That's dangerous!"

"So is swinging from building to building at such a height!" I countered. "I'm going to try to hypnotize them."

"Are you sure?"

"Positive."

He swung faster and once we were right above the van, I dropped on the top and stabbed my fans on top of it.

The wind whipped at my face as I used them to pull me closer to the driver's side.

Peeking my head down to the windshield with my power activated, I saw those familiar electric blue eyes.

She had a big smirk on her face as if she was already victorious.

Before I could say anything, she pulled out a pistol and aimed it toward me.

Ducking, I heard the gunshot pierce the windshield.

I gasped as I was pulled away from the car.

"I got you," Spiderman whispered as I watched the van take a sharp right and crash into cars on the sidestreet.

Once we made it on the ground, I raced over and looked inside to find no one in there.

I slammed my hands against the window in frustration.

How is she doing that?

As I sat on the ground, I felt my stomach drop.

What if she knows who I am?

Even as Mesmera, I seem to come in contact with this woman.

What if she knows that I am Mesmera?

What does she want with me?

"Ophelia!"

I snapped out of my thoughts and looked to see Peter and Ned sporting worried looks.

"You okay?"

"Yeah. We've been calling your name a few times," Ned said.

"Yeah. I'm good. Just nervous about the play this weekend. What if I miss a line or my voice cracks when it's Sandy's number?"

"You've been practicing everyday. You got this," Ned reassured and Peter nodded in agreement.

"Thanks guys."

"Hey!" A voice greeted.

I looked over to see Daniel plop down on the open seat beside me.

"Are we still on for ice cream after rehearsal today?" He asked as he chugged the rest of his drink.

"Definitely. Dessert sounds so nice right now."

"The ice cream place down the road?" Peter asked.

I nodded.

"That's the one! You guys are welcome to join us," Daniel offered to the boys.

"Can't. My relatives are coming over for dinner tonight," Ned said with a sigh.

"Yeah. May wants me to pick up a few things from the store."

"Well, there's always next time. I'll see you later, Ophelia," he gave a two finger salute before leaving the cafeteria.

"Since when were you and Daniel close?" Peter asked as he poked his mashed potatoes.

I laughed lightly, "I'm sensing someone is jealous."

His head snapped to look at me as he started to stutter out that he wasn't.

"Relax. I'm just joking. We've been friends since… well.. I rejected him."

Okay… That sounds a lot better in my head.

"I'm going to get a drink. Do you guys want anything?" I asked as I got up.

"I'll come with you," Peter said, getting up as well.

Walking out of the cafeteria, I turned to Peter.

"What are you planning on getting?" I asked, knowing that he wasn't thinking of getting anything.

"Oh! Uh. I'm not really thirsty. I wanted to ask you something."

Turning away from the vending machine, I gave him my full attention.

"After the play tomorrow, do you want to go on another date? Y'know to celebrate how amazing it's going to be an-"

"I'd love to," I accepted, breaking him out of his rambling state.

"And this time, I won't run off. I promise."

"I'll hold you to that, Peter."

As the last dance number ended, Mrs. Paulson stood up.

"Alright! That was a fantastic run through! Tomorrow will be an amazing opening. You guys have a good night and we'll meet up again tomorrow at 3 for one more run through. We gotta nail this one!"

We all cheered in excitement.

Tomorrow is a big night. Our matinee for Grease is finally happening!

Slinging my backpack over my shoulder, I headed my way toward Daniel who was talking to one of his friends.

"Alright, man. I'll see ya." They fist bumped and he turned to me. "Dude, we are going to rock this tomorrow."

"Hell yeah we are!" We high fived and made our way out of the auditorium. "Ready to get some well deserved ice cream?"

"Yes. I've been wanting to try that Moroccan mint tea. Ah crap." Daniel was rifling through his bag. He sighed. "I forgot my Calc book. I'm just going to my locker real quick."

Before I could say anything, he raced up the stairs and disappeared from view.

Plopping down at the bottom step, I opened my bag just to double check if I had everything I needed.

I sighed in relief as my math and chemistry book laid inside.

Ten minutes passed.

Did Daniel leave without me?

Getting up from the step, I started up the stairs just to check before leaving.

I felt a hand wrap around my wrist, making me gasp aloud in fright.

Looking back, I saw Daniel.

I pulled my hand out and rested it against my racing heart.

"Dude! You didn't have to scare me like that!" He started back down the stairs with me right behind. "What took you so long?" I asked, once we got out of the building.

"Sorry. Had to use the restroom."

I nodded, "Okay. Are you ready to head out?"

"Where are we going again?"

Quirking a brow, I answered, "We're going to get some ice cream. I was thinking of trying that flavor of the month. Lindsay said it has multiple cake flavors."

He nodded, "Can we stop by this shop real quick? I promised I'd pick up this thing for my dad."

"Yeah sure." I stepped aside with a sweep of my hand for him to lead the way.

The night sky loomed over us as we made our way through the empty streets.

There was this nagging feeling as we weaved through some alleyways.

"Are we almost there?" I asked.

"Yeah. Just around the corner here."

Is his dad doing shady dealings or something?

He turned the corner quickly and once I followed, I was met with a dead end.

He chuckled darkly as I felt a jab in my neck.

Gasping, I pulled out the needle and looked at it.

My eye couldn't focus on it and it slipped through my fingers.

My legs felt like jelly as I fell back.

I tried to reach for the knife in my pocket, but my fingers wouldn't cooperate.

"It's funny how much you trust people." Daniel pulled at his face, but it wasn't his face that was revealed.

Her eyes glimmered blue as she smirked down at my paralyzed form before the world faded to black.
