Breaking Traditions-Part 27:
Lucius and Narcissa agreed that it had been a while since they'd seen Draco and maybe it might be an idea to go and fill him in on everything that had been going on. He may well have seen some of it on the front pages of the Daily Prophet but they really should have spoken to Draco about it all before they had an angry Draco owl heading their way.
After hearing that his parents were waiting for him in the Headmaster's office Draco frowned slightly and excused himself from the group of Slytherins he was with and followed Professor McGonagall to Dumbledore's office. He stood on the moving stairs and was soon knocking on the door before being told to enter.
He was shocked all the same for seeing his mother and father in the office. Dumbledore made sure there were refreshments before he excused himself and headed back to his office library, leaving the three alone.
"We are sorry that we haven't written to you and explained all of this but it's been hard to know how to explain everything," Narcissa said as she took the lead, "especially after your grandmother's outburst at the Ball. That really never helped anything."
"Well somehow Astoria doesn't know yet but Daphne knows everything. I decided to tell her before the owl arrived from her parents," Draco said, "I really think Astoria should be told considering that we are to be married but I didn't want to do it without permission from you two."
"Astoria can be told because it's only a matter of time before she finds out anyway so yes you can tell her," Lucius said, "she will need to know so I'd rather she heard it from you. Thank you for at least telling Daphne about it though. I think she'd understand about it all than Astoria but I get the feeling that Astoria would also understand," he added before pausing and taking a sip of his drink.
Narcissa smiled and looked at her son.
"We should have owled you about all of this but we just haven't had the chance," she said as she looked at him, "although maybe we should have spoken to you about the statement but we really just wanted to get it out there and get the pressure on your grandmother."
"Why? Why would se reveal such a thing?" Draco asked, "and in that manner as well…"
"Because she's either jealous that I may get the child I wanted whereas she didn't have the courage to do it for the son I should have been or she just really wants to bring me down," Narcissa sighed, "she just appears to be against me doing this for some reason and tried to turn people against us."
"Well from what I can tell here it's had mixed reactions but nobody has been cruel about it. Some have said they hope it works and others just cannot understand why but nobody has been cruel or evil about it," Draco said, "I think some are wishing that it works out because they're happy that someone is leading the way. We still have power and influence that extends far beyond the Manor and Hogwarts. It's about time we used it for good."
Lucius made everyone jump as he chuckled slightly at his son's words.
"I can see we taught you well Draco," he said, "just remember that in the future when you're in our shoes and Lord of the Manor. Remember the good me and your mother have done and not the bad things we were involved in."
"I will father," Draco said before turning back to his mother, "and how have you been doing throughout all of this?" he asked carefully, hoping that his mother would know what he was on about.
Narcissa sighed and felt Lucius take her hand and nod at her.
"I had a wobble," Narcissa sighed, "for a couple of days the madness returned and I came so close to succumbing to it but your grandmother and father managed to pull me back before the madness claimed me again. I almost wonder if that wasn't my mother's aim… to make me go mad so the adoption would fall through."
"Why would she do that though Why would she set out to try and destroy you like that?" Draco asked confused, "she cannot be allowed to get away with it."
"We don't know but we suspect that it's because we could finally get a daughter," Lucius said as he looked at his son, "nobody has been able to get it out of her why she wants to do it. One thing is for certain and that is Grandfather Cygnus is going to be dealing with her after everything that has happened."
"Has Grandmother Priscilla finally had her wish to duel Grandmother Druella yet?" Draco smirked, knowing that it was a dream of hers.
"No but I think it'll come eventually because you can see the seeds of it being sown and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it happens and then Merlin knows what will happen," Narcissa said.
"I wish I could be around to see it," Draco said.
"Trust me you won't once they really get going because there will simply be no way of stopping them until someone gives in," Lucius said, "and I don't think that either of them will want to be the first to back down. They're both as stubborn as each other at times."
"Well now I know where you get the stubbornness from," Draco laughed softly as he watched his parents, "I mean the same could be said of you two when you both think you're right," he said.
Lucius and Narcissa really couldn't argue with that. They also knew that Draco didn't mean it nastily as well and that it was an observation that he'd made over the years.
"OK yes. You have us there," Narcissa said as she looked at her son and sighed softly.
"But don't worry about a thing," Lucius said, "Grandfather Cygnus is dealing with Grandmother Druella and your mother is fine," he said softly and Draco nodded,
"OK but please write to me more in the future if anything happens."
"We will darling," Narcissa said, "of course we will."
