Hey there gang, this chapter here is to make up for the long absence I had between the Rise and Shine chapter and this one. This will definitely be my longest chapter so far as this is combining two pieces of Overwatch media, the comic, Dragon Slayer and the animated short of the same name. Also, this chapter will include my OC, so I hope you all enjoy. With that said, grab a drink and get comfortable because this will be a long one.

I do not own any characters or locations within this story, only original characters. Overwatch is owned by Blizzard Entertainment.

Chapter 4: Honor and Glory

-000-

Location: Somewhere in Germany, Europe

Date: A few days after Recall, 2074

-000-

The dust was pushed aside as tires from a van drove along the dirt road. The sound of a news report playing was the only thing heard between the individuals driving. Inside the vehicle were three individuals, an older gentleman, a young woman, and a young man.

The older man in the passenger seat was a hulking figure of masculinity, contradicted by the large amounts of gray in his hair and beard. His face was grizzled, a large scar running down his left eye. His window was down as he let wind hit his face and hair. He wore a black t-shirt, dark green work pants, and brown combat boots.

In the driver seat was the young woman, who looked to be in her early twenties. She was quite fit, even muscular some would say with a large gear tattoo on her left shoulder. She kept her eyes on the road, only taking quick glances at the older man with his large, silly grin that made her chuckle. She was sporting a white tank top and red pants with boots.

And finally in the back seat was the younger man, who also appeared to be in his early to mid-twenties. He was a slightly heavyset individual with a noticeable belly, holding a map. He continued to mark down certain points, crossing some off before looking to the duo up front and chuckling along with them. He was wearing a blue jacket over an olive shirt, navy jeans and black sneakers.

"What is so funny?" The older man asks in a thick German accent.

The young lady seized her laughing slowly before looking back to the road. "Just you, Reinhardt." The woman stated. "You always love having the wind in your hair." She says making the other man chuckle in the back.

"Yeah, you've been like that for a good ten minutes. They say you could lose your hair like that if you go really fast." The heavyset man added.

The older man laughed loudly. "And where did you hear that from Monterey?" Reinhardt asked through his laughter.

"I'm just saying, you never know." Monterey states before going back to the map.

"Hey Monty, does the map say anything about a pitstop close by?" The woman asked looking back to the man.

"Not at least for another good twenty-five miles, Brigitte." He tells her looking back to her. "But it looks like there might be a town on the way." Monterey adds, marking it on the map.

"How many miles?"

"About five from where we are now."

Brigitte puts her boot on the gas and begins to speed in the direction they're going.

-000-

After about twenty minutes of driving, Brigitte began to slow the van down, coming to a complete halt. The three stepped out of the vehicle and looked on at the town in front of them.

"Not the ideal place to look for supplies." Brigitte states looking on before looking at the small amount of coin in her bag. "But we're low on fuel."

"And hungry." Reinhardt groaned. "I could really go for some currywurst."

"Fried currywurst and crispy golden fries." Monterey added. "Lightly salted, and all with a nice, spicy ketchup." He said as the two men's mouths began to water up.

Brigitte shook her head before pointing a finger at the duo. "No." She said sternly. "We only have enough money for essentials." She states adding emphasis on essentials.

"What could be more essential than delicious fried pork, Brigitte?" Reinhardt asks.

"It's always food with you two." She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.

Monterey chuckles. "No worries, Brigitte." He says giving the girl a reassuring smile. "We go in, grab whatever supplies we need, and get out." He says to her. She nods as the trio make their way to the town.

-000-

The streets were quiet, almost empty, the echoes of their footsteps being heard. The three look around as the wind blew around them. Monterey jumped feeling a brush of wind on the back of his neck.

"Guys...w-w-where is everyone?" Monterey asked, his voice shaking with fear.

"It's like a ghost town." Reinhardt whispered looking around.

"Hello!" Brigitte called out. "Is anyone here?" She called out once more before her attention was brought to a symbol on a wall. "Reinhardt, Monty, look at this."

The two men looked over to the graffiti, Reinhardt scratched his chin looking over the image. "What is it?" Reinhardt asked.

"It looks like some kind of sign." Monterey said looking over to Brigitte.

Brigitte looked at her watch and pulled up a hologram with the same symbol. She read over the report before looking back to the two men. "There have been reports of armed scavengers raiding towns in this region and claiming them as their territory."

"W-w-what!?" Monterey panicked. "Armed...s-scavengers!?" The man quivered, shaking in his boots.

Brigitte nodded. "Yeah, and the local authorities are so inept and underfunded that they can't do anything about it." She stated, getting a petrified look from Monterey.

"Hey." A young voice was heard getting a look from the trio. The voice came from a little girl holding a lion stuffed animal. "You're big." She said looking towards Reinhardt. "Have you come to save us from the dragons.

"Dragons?" Brigitte asked looking confused.

"Dragons?" Reinhardt asked looking intrigued.

"Dragons?" Monterey asked looking terrified.

Brigitte nudges Monterey's shoulder to calm him before looking back to the little girl. "Not real dragons, right?" She asked looking to Reinhardt pointing her thumb to him. "Let's not give the big guy the wrong idea, he has an active imagination." She looks to the little girl, trying to make a bit of light humor.

Reinhardt looked around, his eyes fixated on a couple of people by a building, an older man, and two roughnecks. The two younger men seem to be performing a shakedown on the older gentleman. Watching this, Reinhardt approaches the men.

"Time to pay up again, old man." One of the ruffians snickered.

The old man backed into the wall. "Please, you've already taken so much." The older man pleaded. "People are leaving the town in droves." He stated, fearing in his voice.

"Hey fellas, I got a feeling the mayor's holding out on us." The thug called, pulling out a gun from his side. The mayor wheezed, shaking in his place. Suddenly the three were covered by a large shadow as a hulking, bearded man approached them.

"I believe you two have overstayed your welcome here." Reinhardt growled towering over the two thugs, muscles bulging ready to burst out of his charcoal t-shirt. "I advise you to return whatever goods you have stolen." Reinhardt warned, cracking his knuckles. Laughter can be heard from behind Reinhardt, making him turn around to see the source of the laughter.

The source was a man in outfits similar to the other thugs. He was a muscular figure, bald-headed and bearded with marking on his face and head. He smirked at Reinhardt.

"And I advise you to leave before you get hurt, stranger." The man said before snapping his fingers. Suddenly multiple armed men began to appear out of buildings and behind cover, aiming their guns at Reinhardt, Brigitte, and Monterey. "A little out of your league here, don't you think big man?" The thug leader taunted.

Reinhardt scoffed, unfazed by the thugs. "I have dealt with ruffians like you before." He spat. "You do not frighten me."

The gang leader chuckled, keeping his gaze on Reinhardt. "Maybe not." He states walking past Brigitte, smirking at the woman. "Hell, you might even put up a good fight." He continues walking up to Monterey. He raises a hand, causing the chubby man to flinch making the other thugs chuckle. Finally the leader walks over to the little girl, crouches next to her, and puts an arm around her. "But if it comes to that, somebody innocent could get caught in the crossfire." He strokes the girl's hair before he pulls out a gun and puts it to the girl's head. "Best for everyone if you stand down, yeah?" He challenges Reinhardt.

Reinhardt clenches his fists, anger seething in him, sending death glares at the man. "Coward." He mutters before feeling a hard fist smash into his jaw. The sudden force knocking the large man to his hand and knees.

"Give our friend a warm welcome boys." The gang leader ordered. The gang members surrounded Reinhardt and begin to wail on him, kicking and punching him while he's down.

Brigitte and Monterey try to jump in to help him but are held back. Two thugs grab Brigitte and pull her back and Monterey is punched in the stomach, knocking him to his knees.

"Reinhardt!" Brigitte and Monterey call out, getting the attention of the gang leader.

"Reinhardt?" The gang leader questioned. "Reinhardt Wilhelm from Overwatch. I knew you looked familiar." He laughed walking to the large man. The other thugs separated as their leader approached. "You used to be a hero. Now you're just a sad old man stuck in the past." He continued, leaning on the fallen man. "Too stubborn to realize that the world has already passed you by. An actual living fossil." This got the gang members to laugh while everyone watched in horror. "Your day in the sun has come and gone old man, give it up." He states before leaning down to reach Reinhardt's ear. "Show your face around here again, and we won't go easy on you like we did this time." He warns before kicking Reinhardt hard in the face, making the German man spit blood out onto the ground. "Come on boys, he's learned his lesson. We got a few more towns to visit today." He laughed as the rest of his gang followed. The citizens began to leave, and Brigitte and Monterey leaped to check in on Reinhardt.

"Reinhardt, are you ok?" Brigitte asked helping him up and checking his face.

"We'll get you back to the van and fix you up." Monterey added keeping Reinhardt stable.

"I...I am fine you two. What about you?" He asked looking to his younger companions.

"We're fine, but we need to get you fixed up." Brigitte stated as she and Monterey helped Reinhardt to his feet just as the mayor and the little girl walked away.

"These people...they need help." Monterey sighed as the trio began to hobble over back to the van.

-000-

The three of them made their way back to the van, Reinhardt caught himself from falling. Brigitte looked to him with a worried look.

"Reinhardt, maybe we should sit this one out. Let somebody else take care of things for once." She states helping Reinhardt into the van.

"She's right, this ain't our fight. Last thing we want is for you to comeback with more cuts and bruises." Monterey added pulling his computer out.

Reinhardt shook his head. "As you said, the local authorities have no power here anymore. There is no one else." He stated just as Brigitte began to patch him up.

"I get that, but we can't be jumping into every fight we come across." Brigitte states wrapping up Reinhardt's wounds. "We just can't." She whispers.

"If we don't Brigitte, then no one will." Reinhardt stated, his voice a low whisper, yet also stern and powerful.

Brigitte and Monterey looked to each other, then looked back to Reinhardt. Brigitte sighed, but nodded. "We can't stop you, so the most we can do is help you." She said with Monterey nodding in agreement.

"Thank you, my friends." Reinhardt chirped.

-000-

The three stepped to the back of the van, Brigitte pressed a button on the side of the vehicle making a door open to reveal some old, busted looking armor and hammer.

"We need new parts." She states looking at the armor. "Your armor can't handle another battle in this condition."

Reinhardt shook his head before looking to her. "When has that ever stopped us before?" He asked looking back at his armor. "Even old and worn, this armor can still serve its purpose. One day it may fall apart, but until that time we will fight. Overwatch may be gone, but its legacy endures through us. We have sworn to carry on its ideals and restore hope to this troubled world. To seek out tyranny and evil wherever they take root, and bring the hammer of justice down upon the wicked. Such is our duty, such is our righteous quest. Above all else, we will never run when people are in need, no matter how monstrous our enemy may be!" Reinhardt said, picking up his old helmet, and looked to his two companions.

Brigitte looked over to Reinhardt and Monterey and nodded, giving her godfather a smile. "Give me some time, and I'll have your armor ready to go."

"And I'll try to find the dragons hideout on my computer." Monterey stated looking to Reinhardt. "Just try to rest up for a while Reinhardt." He says heading back into the van. Brigitte nodded before heading to work on Reinhardt's armor, leaving the large man by himself. As Reinhardt walked towards the open field he took a seat on the grass, pulling out a small emblem with the Overwatch logo. He looks to the emblem and takes a deep breath, thinking back to his glory days as a Crusader and Overwatch agent.

-000-

-000-

Reinhardt looked over the small emblem in his fingers before looking over to a fellow knight. The other knight was one, Balderich von Adler, an armored and mustachioed man, wearing armor similar to Reinhardt's.

"So, that's it? You're leaving us?" He asks before tossing the emblem to Balderich.

"I have been called, I must answer! It is a great honor." Balderich stated catching the emblem.

"Ugh, to disappear into some secret organization, give up the glory of being a Crusader?! I don't think so!" Reinhardt groaned before grabbing a little knife and carving something into the wood of the bar.

"He wishes he got picked." A soldier joked reaching for his tankard of beer, only for it to get quickly snatched by Reinhardt.

The larger man took a big gulp and let out a satisfied sigh before slamming the drink back onto the table. "The Crusaders are immortal defenders of Germany! People will be singing songs about our legacies!" He cheered.

"Our legacies are our deeds, and this war is bigger than all of us." Balderich reminded him, getting an eye roll from the brash soldier.

Suddenly another soldier came running into the room, panting and out of breath. "General Balderich! Drop pods to the East! They're coming!" He panted.

Balderich nodded. "Alright, people! They're playing our song! Stick with your dance partners. Let's crush those rustbuckets!" He commanded getting everyone focused and walking out. Reinhardt approached the old soldier with a large hammer in his hand.

"Here's your walking stick, old man!" Reinhardt joked handing him the weapon.

Balderich let out a laugh, lifting his head back before smirking at Reinhardt. "Live with honor!"

Reinhardt laughed back. "Hah! Die with glory!" He finished before the two grabbed each other's hands in a firm shake.

-000-

The Crusaders continued to move forward with Balderich leading the group. Shield up just as a group of omnics fire their weapons at them. Balderich gives an order and one of the soldiers fires out a rocket, blasting the omnics into scrap metal.

Meanwhile, Reinhardt is charging through the robots, smashing through them like glass. He catches one by its head and throws it to a small group of robots, before smashing the final one with his hammer. He laughs as he whips his hair back. Balderich rushes behind him. "Get back and protect your team!" He ordered.

"Ah, they're just slowing me down!" Reinhardt states before slamming his hammer into another robot. "Besides, they're fine!"

Suddenly a large pod dropped from the sky, smashing the earth and surrounding the soldiers in smoke. As the smoke cleared the pod formed into a quadrupedal robot, with a gun for an arm. The soldiers looked stunned seeing this new machine. "What is that?" A soldier asked.

"That...is mine!" Reinhardt called, laughing maniacally as he rushed the robot. The machine began to fire bullets into the charging, but they bounced off his armor. He crashes into the robot, pushing it back some, but the robot anchored itself into the ground, stopping the momentum. Reinhardt stunned by this, gets thrown by the robot and soon feels a burning sensation slicing into his eye, burning it. He screamed as he felt his eye burn.

"Reinhardt!" Balderich called only for another robot to drop behind him and begin to fire at him and the other soldiers. "Fall back to the rally point. I'll get Reinhardt." He said pushing forward.

Reinhardt was regaining consciousness, feeling a large, heavy metal foot pin him down. The same machine with a blade, ready to strike him down standing over him. Reinhardt froze, petrified before Balderich came in. Swinging his hammer he struck the mechanical monstrosity, shattering its optics. It fired back at the soldier, hitting his shield before shoving its red-hot blade into Balderich's side. He grunts in pain, before grabbing the machine's arm, ripping it off and slamming his hammer down upon the machine. He pulls the blade out, panting from the pain.

"I had this!" Reinhardt barked.

Balderich holding his side looked back to Reinhardt. "Obviously." He stated sarcastically. Balderich looked to notice more omnics firing at the two, blasting them with bullets. "They're cutting us off. Let's move!" He ordered, grabbing his hammer as the two rushed away.

Following Balderich, Reinhardt can smell the ash and smoke coming from behind them, as explosions went off, chasing the two of them into a large castle. Rushing behind the doors the two large men began to push them forward, sealing the door off and keeping them safe for the time being.

Suddenly Reinhardt found himself awakening from his slumber. He must've fallen asleep as he sat down. He looked back to notice Brigitte finishing up with his armor. She looked back to see him and gave him a wave.

"Hey, good to see you're awake." She said walking to him. "Your armor's ready to go." She stated.

"Hey you guys, you uh...might wanna take a look at this." Monterey called before bringing his computer to the duo.

One the screen was a video message from a gorilla in armor. "We became the greatest champions of peace and progress mankind has ever seen!" The gorilla stated putting a script down, looking to the camera.

"Winston!?" Reinhardt said, stunned to see his old friend again.

"How did you get this message, Monty?" Brigitte asked looking to her friend.

"My computer still had access to some of Overwatch's communication channels. Winston must've used the emergency communications channel." Monterey explains looking between Brigitte and the computer.

"Someone has to do something! We have to do something! We can make a difference again." Winston continued getting a look from Reinhardt. "The world needs us now, more than ever! Are you with me?" The ape asked before the transmission went off.

The trio looked amongst each other before Monterey broke the silence. "So Winston's trying to get the gang back together." He said with a nervous smile.

Reinhardt let out a hardy laugh. "Wonderful news! Finally, to be back into the action!" He cheered.

"I thought we talked about this. You don't have to do this anymore." Brigitte stated a bit upset. "Why would you want to go back to Overwatch?" She asked looking to Reinhardt.

"It wouldn't be a bad thing for him to be back in the team. The world could use more heroes." Monterey said before getting a glare from Brigitte. He hid behind his computer not wanting to anger the girl.

"Papa told me, after so many years of service, you gave Overwatch everything, and then they pushed you out! Why would you go back to them?" She questioned.

Reinhardt stood there in silence, unsure on how to answer the question. He lowered his gaze, looking somber before looking to Monterey. "Did you find the dragons location, Monterey?" He asked.

"Y-yeah. They're in an old warehouse a few kilometers outside of town." Monterey answered giving Reinhardt the location of the warehouse.

Reinhardt nodded, before stepping outside and getting into his armor. "I shall return. Both of you lock up and stay hidden." He ordered before heading out into the darkness.

The two locked the doors as they watched Reinhardt leave. The two sat in silence for some time before Brigitte spoke up. "I'm just worried about him. He shouldn't be in this fight anymore." She stated, resting her chin in her palm.

"You know he's not going to stop." Monterey answered. "He's a hero, through and through. No matter how many times you can tell him, he's too stubborn to quit." He says leaning into a chair. "You and me of all people know that."

"I know Monty, I'm just worried that he won't make it back." She sighed looking to him.

"He'll be fine, Brigitte. This is Reinhardt. The guy's an unstoppable force in the body of a man." Monterey answered. "Just give him a little faith." He said giving his friend a soft, and reassuring smile. She smiled back, a little more calm before she looked out into the darkness.

-000-

Reinhardt stood outside of the warehouse, having followed the exact coordinates he was given. With hammer in hand, Reinhardt took a breath before getting in a battle stance.

"DRAGONS!" He roared. "My name is Reinhardt Wilhelm, and I stand as a champion for the innocents of this land! Face me now in honorable combat!" He cried, challenging the dragons.

Large metal doors opened up, and over a dozen thugs appeared on their motorcycles and armed. The leader up front smirked, looking at Reinhardt. "This guy again?" He asked chuckling. "Boys, put him down for good this time." He ordered and began to ride in Reinhardt's direction.

Bullets were fired in Reinhardt's direction, luckily the armor warrior put up his barrier shield, and protected himself from the attack. Reinhardt lunged himself into the air, and slammed his hammer into the ground, causing a massive shockwave and knocking many thugs off of their rides. He swung his hammer around, knocking multiple thugs around with ease. As Reinhardt looked around, he was soon blasted with a wave of flames, as the leader began to attack him with a portable flamethrower. The flames began to sear Reinhardt's skin, cooking him in his armor.

The gang leader laughed hysterically. "Your times up Reinhardt! You're gonna die tonight!" He roared, blasting Reinhardt with his flamethrower.

Reinhardt closed his eyes, trying to hold on as long as possible.

-000-

Reinhardt and Balderich stumbled into the castle, locking it tightly before they continued forward. Balderich looked back at Reinhardt, holding his side.

"The door won't hold. Get back to the unit. I will hold them off." He ordered, grunting in pain as he held his side.

"And let you have all the glory? We will fight our way back! Together!" Reinhardt stated trying to make light of the situation.

Balderich slammed his hammer down, and took his helmet off. "No. I'm staying here." He growled in pain, looking to Reinhardt.

The younger soldier took notice of Balderich's bleeding side. His eyes widening realizing what his old friend is suggesting. "But, I- Without you?"

"Lieutenant! You took an oath to be a Crusader. Now, keep it!" Balderich ordered before putting his hand out to Reinhardt.

Reinhardt froze, looking at his hand before hearing the door get hit hard, slamming from the impact of the robots trying to break it down. "I... I won't leave you!" He cried, his voice shaking.

"The team needs you. Be their shield!" Balderich stated, looking to his friend with a determined look. Reinhardt looked to his friend and nodded taking his friend's arm in a firm grip. As he let go, he noticed the emblem that Balderich had in his hand. "Reinhardt, live with honor." Balderich ordered, giving his friend one last smile.

Reinhardt nodded before handing Balderich his hammer. The older knight took it before Reinhardt turned to his side, giving his friend one final look. "Die with glory... old friend..." He somberly said, giving his friend one last goodbye before making his way out of the castle, never looking back, and only hear the sound of metal smashing metal.

-000-

Seeing his fellow soldiers get caught in the crossfire of the robots, Reinhardt charged through a wall, putting his shield up to protect his allies. However his shield was beginning to fall. Quickly he turned around and shielded his fellow soldiers with his own body, taking the shots for them. Soon a massive explosion was heard as Reinhardt and the other soldiers were covered in a large cloud of smoke and ash as explosions went off around them. As the smoke cleared, Reinhardt looked back to the castle and rushed back to look for Balderich.

-000-

Reinhardt felt his armor heating up and beginning to crack. His rage building up as he pushed into the flame. The thug, shocked increased the potency of his flamethrower. But it was to no avail as Reinhardt charged though, slamming his body into the leader's bike, knocking him off. He swung his hammer, firing a large arc of flames in the direction of the man, destroying the motorcycle.

As the thug tried to crawl away, he saw a large metal boot come crashing down in front of him. Looking upward he sees Reinhardt staring him down. "The sun has not set on this knight's journey." Reinhardt cried. "If you trouble the people of this land again, I will not show you mercy like this time." He warned, making the thugs ride off away from the warehouse. Reinhardt looks back to see Brigitte and Monterey coming to him, cheering for his victory.

-000-

The following morning, the trio come back to town, with the citizens cheering, calling Reinhardt a hero for what he's done. The mayor approaches the trio giving Reinhardt a handshake.

"The dragons will not be bothering you anymore, mayor." Reinhardt assured.

"I can't thank you enough, Mr. WIlhelm. How can we ever repay you for your heroic act?" The mayor asked, shaking Reinhardt's hand.

"To see justice done is its own reward. That and a child's smile." Reinhardt stated, seeing Brigitte handing the little girl an armor lion stuffed animal.

"Spoken like a true hero." Monterey commented nudging Reinhardt's side.

"All right, now let's see about getting those supplies, you guys." Brigitte stated looking over to the two men.

"And some currywurst. I'm starving." Monterey joked getting a playful punch to the shoulder from Brigitte.

She laughed. "Fine, you both can have one, if you promise not to eat it in the van. I don't want the interior stinking like fired pork for a week like last time." She jokingly warned pointing a finger at Monterey.

"No problem, Brigitte. I promise." Monterey assured, putting his hand over his heart, getting an eye roll from Brigitte.

"Yeah, yeah. We'll see." She said before the two looked over to Reinhardt. "You ok, Reinhardt?" Brigitte asked.

"Yeah, come on, let's go grab some currywurst." Monterey said looking at the larger man.

"Of course...but I must do one last thing, before we leave." He said before looking to the castle in the distance.

-000-

The trio walked into the abandoned castle, noticing the overgrown foliage and rusted metal around the place. They stepped over the plants and metal before they came face to face with what Reinhardt came to see.

Sitting in the throne was a large figure, resting in the throne, clad in large metal armor and a mighty hammer next to him. Reinhardt looked to the body and sighed. The two younger individuals looked at Reinhardt before realizing who this was.

"This is...Balderich?" Brigitte asked.

Reinhardt nodded. "You asked me last night, why would I want to return to Overwatch." He said quietly before walking to the body of Balderich, leaving his emblem on the arm of the throne.

"Reinhardt?" Monterey asked confused.

Reinhardt was quiet for a moment, looking over the corpse of his fallen friend. He sighed quietly before looking back to Brigitte and Monterey. "I have been called. I must answer. Always." He said before making his way out of the castle. Brigitte and Monterey follow behind him, proud of the man Reinhardt is. He wasn't just an old man, or a soldier of a past life. Now, Reinhardt was the protector of the innocent, a hero of the weak, a soldier of justice, and most of all, a living legend.

-000-

And that's a wrap. I really do apologize for this chapter taking so long to come out, had a minor case of writer's block and a lot of personal stuff happened in my life. I also wanted to make this chapter a little bit special as not only are Reinhardt and Brigitte my favorite characters in Overwatch, but this chapter would also introduce my OC, Monterey. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and I sincerely thank all of you for your patience with me, it's an absolute honor to be writing for you all. Next chapter will be focusing on another Overwatch favorite, and I hope to see you all there. Love you all, and have yourselves a wonderful evening.
