This is amazing so far! I feel sorta bad for the both of them, like both Brooke and Lucas are lonely souls.
Also, I feel like you changed Brooke's sons name but didn't change it everywhere. Is his name Liam or Zack? Btw I LOVE the name Shalina.

Hi Guest!

Thank you for your review. It made me smile. As the name change, I'm sooo sorry I thought that I changed it to Liam on every sentence that mentioned him. But his name is Liam.

As for Lucas and Brooke, yes unfortunately they're lonely. But it's a Brucas story, so hang in there

Chapter Three -Green Eyes of Mystery

Lucas was rushing. It was one of those days. He was walking towards the entrance of Karen's Café and reached out to open the door when his phone started vibrating in his pocket. As he looked down to grab his phone he was pushed back and suddenly cold liquid was on him.

"Oh my gosh, I'm soooo sorry," she said.

He sighed and untucked his shirt, "Well it would have helped if you-"he said, looking up with deep green eyes, and he felt his voice die.

"I really am sorry," she said.

He cleared his throat, "It's okay," he said.

She smiled and he got lost in her eyes. "I'm Penelope," she said. "I could make you a new shirt," she said.

"Make?" he asked taking in the scene.

"Yeah. I um. I make clothes," she said kind of sheepishly.

He eyed her. She was in a yellow knee-length sundress and black flats. "Well, that would be nice, but its really okay." he said. "I'm-"

"Lucas Scott," she finished. "Yeah um, I been here a couple times, and heard your name from Haley."

He chuckled, "Yeah well, my sister-in-law does talk a lot."

She smiled, "Yeah, she's nice. Can I- Can I buy you a cup of coffee? Since you won't let me make you a shirt."

Lucas thought for a minute, "Yeah, sure."

"Great," she said.

He opened the door and let her in first. He followed her in.

...

"Shalina," a voice called to her.

Shalina looked up, "Hey!" she exclaimed. It had been a few days since she had been in the school, but she and Matt were similar. He caught up to her.

"Hey," he said.

She smiled, "Hey, sooo-"

"Yeah um, I just wanted to say hi," he said.

"Matt, are you boring someone again?" a girl asked joining them. She stood maybe 5'3" with light brown hair and blue eyes. She looked sort of like Matt, but you could tell there were differences.

He rolled his eyes, "I'm just being nice Jenny," he said.

"You're new here," Jenny said in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Is it that obvious?" she asked.

"You live in this town long enough; you know who is new here," she said turning to her. "Oh you're having lunch with me," she said.

"I-well," Shalina was trying to say.

She gave her a look, "Are you really saying no?" she asked. "Look, I'm a sophomore, you're a freshman. Anyone would like to have lunch with me," she said. "So I'll meet you at the courtyard at lunch," Jenny said, and walked away.

"That's my sister for you," Matt said.

"THAT'S your sister?" she asked.

"Well, half-sister. Same dad, different mom."

Shalina nodded. "Sometimes I feel like Liam, and I are from different parents," she said. "I mean, he's-"she looked over at the group of guys down the hall with jock jackets and clowning around.

"Not the smartest bunch?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

"You can say that."

He chuckled, "Yeah well Jenny isn't the smartest bunch either. She's the head cheerleader for junior varsity, and annoying as hell at home."

"Well that's siblings."

He chuckled, "Right. I have three younger siblings at home, and my mom is due any moment with another."

Shalina raised an eyebrow, "I see."

Just then the bell rang.

"Well, I'll see you later."

"You're not eating lunch with us?"

"Of course not. You'll see why. Gotta go," he said and hurried off.

Shalina smiled a bit, and shook her head, and headed to her class.

"So, what brings you here to Tree Hill?" he asked.

Brooke looked down at her coffee, "Well um, this and that."

"You're not a talker huh Penelope."

"Well, not about myself Mr. Scott," she said looking up at him.

He chuckled, "It's just Lucas."

"Well, just Lucas. What made you become a mayor?"

"Well, Miss Penelope, it's because it's something my dad wanted, and I wanted to make him mad by taking it."

"Oh I see."

"I'm kidding Penelope," he said. "Truth is," he said and she looked up at him. "I became a mayor because I wanted to make a difference. Be a part of something that counts."

Brooke smiled, "Well, that's admirable Lucas," she said.

"Yeah, well, the office has been messy because I lost my best assistant last month."

"Oh, I'm sorry. What happened?" Brooke asked.

Lucas chuckled, "She's not dead if that's what you're asking," he said leaning forward and sipping his coffee. "She has kids she needs to take care of, and she's pregnant, so I had to let her go."

"Oh," Brooke said sheepishly. She cleared her throat, "Are you hiring?" she asked.

"Yes and no."

Brooke raised an eyebrow, "Yes or no?" she asked.

"Well, I have a guy. Rico. He's my manager but has been acting as my personal assistant."

Brooke nodded, "Mm-hmm," she said stirring her coffee. "Well, I'm pretty handy and know my way around a computer."

"Yeah? Well, are you looking for a job?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

"I may be," she answered.

"Okay," he said, "Yeah okay," he said taking out his wallet and pulling out a card and giving it to her. "Come to the office tomorrow morning at 9 am, and we'll talk then," he said standing up and pulling out a couple of dollars to put on the table for a tip.

"Okay sure," Brooke said sipping on her coffee.

"I'll see you tomorrow," he said and headed out.

Brooke sat back and smiled, "Lucas Scott, handsome and kind. I like that," she said watching him through the glass until she couldn't see him no more.

"Hey Liam," a girl called out to him.

He turned to see his dark-haired sister running up to him. "Hey Shali."

"Seems like you're getting along here," she said.

He chuckled, "Yeah I guess. How about you lil sis?"

"I'm okay. I met these two siblings Matt and Jenny. Totally different," she said as they headed out of the school building and towards the car that their dad bought last weekend.

"I have seen you with them," he said as he opened the trunk, and they put their backpacks in the back.

"Well, they are nice. Completely opposite, but they're like us."

"Oh because we're so similar," Liam joked as they climbed into the jeep.

Shalina looked thoughtful, and looked over at him as she took her sunglasses from the compartment. "True, because I AM cooler than you," she said fastening her seatbelt.

Liam chuckled, "Hey that hurts," he said jokingly as he pulled his seatbelt and fastened it.

"Do you think dad will ever come to visit?" Shalina asked out of the blue.

He started the jeep and reversed out of the parking lot. "Sure I suppose so," he said as he put the jeep in drive, and they drove out of the parking lot. "Maybe we can invite him for the summer."

"Yeah we should ask mom."

"Yeah she'd love that."

"They get along."

"Yeah I true."

He drove them home, and thought about what Shalina said. What if their dad did move here? Would he want too? Would a big shot, worldwide director move to a small town where everyone knew everyone, JUST to be close to his kids? Would he consider it? Could they become a family again? Would it be possible? At 16 you'd think he would have given up all hope of his parents getting back together. But it was possible, wasn't it?

...

Brooke drove into the driveway and grabbed the food she picked up from her trunk. She walked into the house, and saw her kids in the living room. Liam was on the couch, and Shalina was on the 1 seater couch.

"Hey my beauty spawns," she said.

"Hey mom," they murmured.

She headed to the kitchen and unpacked the food. "How was your day?" she asked.

"Good," Shalina said joining her in the kitchen and sat on the barstool, and reached over at the food and opened the containers. "I met Matt's sister Jenny."

Brooke looked interested, "Oh, and how is she?" she asked.

"Very different," Shalina said taking a carrot and dipping it into ranch.

"Well, I got a job," Brooke said turning to grab plates from the cabinet.

"A job?" Liam asked. "Doing what?"

"Well," Brooke said hesitantly, "Assistant to the Mayor."

Shalina raised her eyes, "Mom!" she exclaimed.

"I know, I know," Brooke said giving them plates as Liam joined them.

"Not this again," Liam said.

"It's going to be different," Brooke said, and her kids gave her a look. "It is!" she insisted.

…_

They sat down and drank water. They were at the basketball court and taking a break.

"So, how you been big bro?" Nathan asked.

Lucas chuckled, "I'm alright."

"You handling it without Peyton?" he asked.

"Well Rico is doing good, but I want to unload the pressure on him."

"Meaning?" Nathan asked.

Lucas looked away for a second, then looked back at him. "There's this new girl, her name's Penelope-"

"Hales mentioned of a girl name Penelope that goes to Karen's Café."

"I'm sure same girl," he said. "Anyways, I told her that I'd give her a chance to come on board, so we'll see how she handles herself."

Nathan chuckled, "She's so going to regret you."

Lucas playfully smacked the back of his head, "Hey, I'm not that bad."

Nathan laughed, and it got silent between them. Nathan gave him a serious look, "Hey, you coming to dad's next week?" he asked.

"For what?" he asked.

"It's my mom's birthday, and he told me to invite you."

Lucas scoffed, "He can't even invite me himself."

"Well, you don't answer his calls."

"Because every time I do it's about my Mayor stuff, or he lectures me of one thing or another."

"Well, that's Dan Scott for you."

He chuckled, "Well, I better get going. Hales is going to flip if I'm late," he said standing up, and grabbing his thermos.

"Yeah, I'll head out too," Lucas said. "Penelope starts at 9 and I want to prep Rico."

"Sounds good."

The two brothers headed to their cars.

...

He walked into his mansion, and his lab greeted him. "Hey Bos," he said rubbing his head. He headed towards the kitchen with Boscoe trailing behind him. "Hungry boy?" he asked.

Boscoe barked wagging his tail. He bent down under the sink, and pulled out the dry kibble bag, and headed to the dishes in the corner. He poured about a cup in a half in to the empty bowl, and grabbed the other bowl to refill water. He then went to the freezer, and stared at the many freezer packed meals. He grabbed one of them out, and stuck it in microwave. He grabbed a beer from the fridge, and leaned against his counter, and his mind drifted to the brunette that had these mysterious green eyes. There was something about her that drew him in. She was gorgeous, and he wanted to know her. His mind was brought back to reality when the microwave beeped. He sighed, "Am I kidding myself Bos?" he asked taking his food out from the microwave. "Am I going to burn myself again?" he asked grabbing a fork from the drawer, and sat at the table. The empty table set up for four. It had one setting, "Table for one," he said to no one in particular. He sat down, and grabbed his phone. He had to do research on this Penelope, as he typed her name in he stopped realizing that he had no idea what her last name was. He chuckled, "There you go again Luke," he said putting his phone down. "Infatuated with someone you have NO clue who she is," he said as he picked up his fork and started to eat.

...

She closed her bathroom door pulling it behind her. The 6 month old Shepard jumped onto her bed, and she sat down on the edge. He laid down, and she absently ran her fingers on his fur. She closed her eyes and took in a breath letting it out slowly as a memory crept into her mind.

**Flashback**

"Come back here Brooke!" he exclaimed as she ran out with a backpack and the clothes she was wearing. She knew she had to get away. She was only 13 years old, but she HAD to get away. She ran down the steps of the trailer home. "IT'S going to be worse when you come back home!" he exclaimed after her as she ran without a second glance back. She ignored the stares she was probably getting and ignored the couple she ran past as they tried to reach out to her. She just kept running, but she had no idea where she was going.

((Two days later))

She was wandering the streets of downtown Los Angeles. She was starving and down to her last pack of food. She had gone two days without a shower, without a good place to sleep, and without any hope. She was exhausted. There was a school group of prep high schoolers in uniform and they were taking in the sights. Brooke quickly slipped in between an alleyway, and backed up not looking behind her, and walked into something or someone.

"Ow he muttered."

She gasped, and turned around meeting deep brown eyes. "I'm sorry," she said.

He smiled, "No harm no foul," he said.

She noticed that he was dressed like the high schoolers that were on the trip.

He tilted his head at her, "Are you lost?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

She crossed her arms across her chest, "No, are you?" she retorted.

He chuckled, "Obviously no, I just took a little break," he said shrugging.

"Looks like you're trying to run away."

"So what if I am?" he challenged.

She shrugged, "Do what you got to do," she said turning to walk away.

"Do you want to grab a bite?" he asked.

She stopped.

"You look hungry," he said, "And I don't want to go back to that group. So do you want to join me for lunch?" he asked.

She turned around, "You don't even know me."

He smiled and walked towards her. He held out his hand, "I'm Julian. Julian Baker," he said.

She hesitated and shook his hand. "Penelope," she said. "Penelope Davis."

Brooke knew giving her last name was tricky but there was something about him that gave her comfort. She didn't entirely lie about her name. Penelope was her middle name after all.

"How about it Penelope? Have lunch with me?"

She nodded. "Okay," she said softly looking down. They headed out the alley, and down the street to a restaurant nearby.

**End of Memory**

Brooke smiled a bit as the memory faded. Those days were good. Those days made sense. Those years gave her their kids. Yet they were so different that they didn't work. They were so young back then. He was the only one who knew the truth about her. About who she was, and who she is. A part of her no one knew or sees. The her that not only she hid, but the her she constantly runs from. Julian Baker was her kryptonite. Yet, he was the only one who saved her. When she didn't know she needed saving.
