Chapter 4 mermaid without her voice
Summary; Mrs. Wellington makes a discovery of how to communicate with Annie in the oceanic realm; Trish uses a potion to go without her powers.
When Trish woke up the next morning, she went to the bathroom and took her shower. She stepped inside and after a few seconds, she noticed she still had legs. Trish smiled when she saw that the potion worked.
Trish went back to her room and put on an orange shirt with a folded collar and a black skirt.
She went downstairs and ate her breakfast. Making sure her family wasn't watching she held her hand out at her glass of juice.
Nothing happened.
Trish felt relieved.
Trish and Elaine were dropped off at school and met up with Kelsey. Throughout the morning, Trish got through class without any trouble. After drama, she had geography. Rachel was in that class too.
Rachel was surprised to see Trish paying attention on the lesson today. She had noticed for the past few days; Trish had been looking a little worried about being a mermaid. But today she was being her usual spirited self.
"Are you okay Trish?" asked Rachel as they left class.
"Yeah," replied Trish happily. "I've been a little unsure about my powers lately, but Mrs. Wellington gave me a potion to help me go without my powers."
She took Rachel by the hand and took her into the bathroom. They looked around making sure it was empty. Then Trish turned on the tap and put her hand under the water and counted to ten.
Nothing happened.
Rachel starred in surprise.
"It's a tailless potion," explained Trish. "It blocks mermaid's powers, and keeps them from transforming when they touch water."
Rachel didn't look sure of Trish's decision.
"I don't think you should try to get rid of your powers" she said.
"Mrs. Wellington used it for years," replied Trish. She then sighed. "Don't get me wrong, I thought it'd be exciting to be a mermaid, Irene takes pride in her powers. But I'm not as outgoing as Irene, I've always been the follower and it's hard to control my powers."
"It's hard for me to control mine sometimes," said Rachel sympathetically. "It's been hard with me at home to hide my powers too. A few days ago, I put my hand on a bag of popcorn and my heat powers made it go pop."
The two girls laughed.
Parker walked up.
"Rachel, Trish, Mrs. Wellington said she'd like to see us after school" he said.
The two girls looked at each other in surprise.
…
Later that day, Parker, Rachel, Trish and Kelsey met at Mrs. Wellington's house. Mrs. Wellington had her magic book on the table.
"Haru and I have found a spell to communicate with Annie and Irene while they're in the oceanic realm" explained Mrs. Wellington.
"It's a reflective communication spell," joined in Haru. "It makes us see them and talk to them from a reflective surface like a mirror or liquids."
There was a small mirror hanging on the wall above a book case. The group walked over to the mirror and Mrs. Wellington looked through the spell book.
…
Annie and Irene watched as the princesses governess, Dame Alexandra was giving them a lesson in manners. She was a mermaid in her late thirties and had dirty blond hair in an updo and bluish-green eyes.
Annie felt annoyed, all morning she had been watching dame Alexandra's princess lessons. That morning she had taught them about ancient writing, which she thought was interesting, but watching their manners lesson was boring. She felt she should take part in tracking down Ava.
Annie was the girly type of girl, but she wasn't into the princess lessons.
Irene on the other hand, enjoyed watching the lesson. She loved hanging out with royalty and took pride in ladylike behaviour. She even took part in the lessons sometimes. Dame Alexandra was very impressed by Irene.
Lacey and Anemone looked very perfect with their graceful swim. They were the oldest princesses after all so they really had to serve as examples for the mermaid kingdom. Celina and Tessa looked a bit board themselves.
"Okay ladies," said dame Alexandra dismissively. "Morning lessons are over."
The princess bowed at their governess as she swum out of the room. Irene quickly bowed down herself and Annie politely bowed at dame Alexandra.
Annie felt relieved that the lessons were over. She could tell Celina would rather be swimming out in the ocean rather then having princess lessons.
"Now we can go look for Ava" declared Annie.
Celina nodded in agreement.
Irene sighed; she'd rather be hanging around the palace with royalty. But she knew that if she helped, she would be praised by the royal family, and she did love attention. So, she decided to help.
…
The gang stood in front of the mirror and Mrs. Wellington recited the spell.
"Kathreftis deixe mou ton kosmo ton okeanon."
Annie, Irene and Celina were leaving the palace when they saw a picture appearing out of nowhere in the water. Annie and Irene looked closer and they could see Mrs. Wellington, Rachel, Parker, Haru, Trish and Kelsey.
"Mrs. Wellington?" said Annie confusedly.
The gang could see Annie and Irene in the mirror.
"How are you guys there?" exclaimed Annie.
"We found a spell to helps us communicate with you in the oceanic world," explained Rachel excitedly. "What's it like there?"
"It's beautiful," said Annie. "There's lots of mermaids, and a kingdom." Celina swum next to them. "This is princess Celina," Annie introduced. "She found us when Irene and I arrived in the oceanic realm."
"It's nice to meet you all" said Celina waving with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you too Celina," said Rachel. "We have something to tell you all too," she continued excitedly. "Trish and I are mermaids now too!"
"What?!" cried Annie and Irene together.
"We fell into the moonpool when you two got sucked into the portal," explained Rachel. "And we became mermaids. I have heat powers and Trish has substance powers." She left out about how unsure Trish was of her powers and Trish looked away, not saying anything.
"When are you gonna be home Annie," said Parker concernedly. "You've been in the oceanic realm for a week." He clearly missed his girlfriend.
"We're not sure," replied Annie unsurely. "Celina's father says the portal isn't so strong when there isn't a full moon. So, it'll probably be a while before we can activate it again. Besides we kind of have to help out around here first. There's a sidhe named Ava on the lose, she wants to rule over all magical creatures."
The gang looked shocked.
"We will look into it" promised Mrs. Wellington.
With a wave of her hand the image of Annie, Irene and Celina vanished.
"What is a sidhe anyway?" asked Kelsey.
"Sidhes are like fairies," explained Haru. "They live in Avalon, the land of eternal youth."
"Avalon?" asked Parker. "You mean like where the sword the ruisseau de perles pod in Monaco gave me came from?"
"Yes," declared Haru. "When Alexander created the sword, he had the help of fairies in Avalon. The story goes that Ava was a sidhe who was banished from Avalon by the king for killing his queen. She fled into the oceanic realm and the mermaids took her in, but she was later banished from the royal court for trying to overthrow the king of mermaids."
Rachel, Parker, Trish and Kelsey starred in shock by Haru's story.
"We really have to get Annie and Irene back to our world now" said Parker worriedly.
"And we'll also have to find a way to keep Ava from getting into this world too," added Mrs. Wellington. "She wants magical creatures to rule the world and destroy humans, so keep a close eye out."
The group nodded and headed out.
When Trish got home, she watched Shake it up with her sisters. Soon it was time for dinner. The Callahans sat down and ate.
"How about we go out for ice cream?" suggested Mr. Callahan.
"Yeah!" cried Elaine and Cat.
"No thanks dad," said Trish. "I have some homework to do."
"Are you sure Trish?" asked Mrs. Callahan.
"Yeah mom," replied Trish.
"Okay angel" replied Mr. Callahan.
Her family said goodbye and walked out the door.
Trish walked upstairs to her room and wrote in her notebook looking in a book about geology.
After a few minutes, Trish looked up from her book and she sat up on the bed and held up the bottle of the tailless potion thinking about her choice to use it.
Suddenly she noticed a grey mist appearing in the room. Trish starred in horror as she saw the mist form into a man. He wore a black shirt and leather jacket and black pants and had wavy shoulder length dark brown hair.
"Demon!" cried Trish dragging herself back a bit. She held out her hand hoping to throw him away with her telekinetic powers. But nothing happened. Trish remembered the potion prevented her from using her powers.
"You're coming with me mermaid" said the demon sadistically, grabbing Trish by the arm and they disappeared.
…
At Rachel's house, Rachel was at home alone watching tv. Just then the lights in the living room flickered. Rachel looked around and then a man appeared in the room. He was a fat man wearing a red plaid shirt and black overalls.
Rachel quickly realized the man was a demon and unleashed fire at the demon, but the demon held out his hand and caught the ball of fire and extinguished it.
"The only magic you're doing mermaid," said the demon speaking in a southern accent. "Is at the moonpool with me."
He grabbed Rachel and they disappeared.
…
At Mrs. Wellington's house, Mrs. Wellington and Haru were talking.
"I can't believe Ava's back" sighed Mrs. Wellington. "That sidhe is just as bad as Leesha Spears was."
"Are you sure giving Trish that tailless potion was a good idea Dawn?" asked Haru. "I mean what if she faces Ava or some of supernatural force? She'd be useless against it."
Before Mrs. Wellington could answer, they saw gray smoke appearing in front of them. They stood up realizing a demon was appearing. A man with dirty blond hair appeared. He wore a black t-shirt and sweater.
Haru unleashed his samurai sword and pointed it in front of the demon.
"You kappas are a disgrace to demons," scoffed the demon. "Being friendly to other species."
Haru dropped his sword down, his brother had been a bad kappa, but when Haru became a servant to the mermaids after they made him bow, he helped them defeat his brother. He regained his courage and held the sword up again.
The demon pushed him aside and held his hand out in front of Mrs. Wellington and she disappeared.
Haru starred in horror and the demon disappeared too.
…
Parker was doing his homework in his room when he heard his cellphone going off.
He picked it up and saw a message from Rachel.
"Been kidnapped by demons and being held hostage at moonpool," he read out loud. "Help!"
Parker reached under the bed and pulled out the sword of Avalon.
He ran downstairs to the telephone and phoned Mrs. Wellington's house.
"Haru!" cried Parker. "I received a message from Rachel, she's been kidnapped by demons and is being held hostage at the moonpool!"
"They've got Dawn too!" exclaimed Haru. "I'll meet you there!"
…
In the sea lion caves, the three demons had Trish, Rachel and Mrs. Wellington thrown on the ground.
"What do you three want?!" snapped Rachel.
"We own the moonpool now mermaids," said the blond demon.
"Now gives us the powers!" demanded the fat demon.
While they talked Trish crawled over to the moonpool and slipped inside.
"Rachel!" cried a voice.
The demons turned around to see Parker running into the cave. Parker charged towards the fat demon who stood in the middle and stabbed him in the lower stomach with the sword.
The demon groaned and clutched the wound. His body started to turn to stone and crumble, and withered into grey mist.
The other two demons starred in shock.
Suddenly they were splashed with water.
Everyone looked back to see Trish in the moonpool in mermaid form.
Rachel and Mrs. Wellington used their telekinesis powers to throw the blond demon to the ground.
Trish then used her powers to make the water go around the brown-haired demon's feet and turned it into substance making him stuck.
Haru then arrived and jumped in front of the brown-haired demon and slashed his sword across him leaving a burning horizontal line across his body. The demon screamed as his body turned to stone and crumbled into grey mist.
The third demon looked uselessly in front of the crowd.
"Keep your moonpool!" he cried. "I'm out of here!"
And with that he disappeared.
Rachel and Mrs. Wellington smiled at Trish proudly for accepting her mermaid powers.
…
That night Trish spoke to Irene in her bathroom mirror.
"I've decided not to use the tailless potion after all," said Trish. "Besides I think it's exciting to have powers."
"Just try not to show them off too much," declared Irene. "I'm still the top mermaid in school you know."
"Of course," said Trish smiling and the two friends laughed.
