Sam Scudder and Rose Dillon were overprotective of the rest of the rogues, though they hardly showed it. They always appeared to be indifferent, frivolous with all the personal dramas experienced in that kind of family that Snart had created, but the truth was that they adored each of the rogues, seeing them as their brothers, as their own family. That's why they took it personally when someone hurt some of them. Not everyone could understand how people lived there, how united they were, how they worked. Sam used to watch the rogues and their partners with his mirrors, for security reasons, to prevent non-rogue and villainous partners from going to the police or setting up the rogues, also to prevent love disappointments in advance from the rogues and treat them to hot chocolate, a friendly chat, a movie, or whatever else they needed when the time came. The rogues suspected nothing of this, so Sam and Rose could keep their reputations intact.
Barry Allen was no exception. They had searched the mirrors of the present and the past and what they had found had frozen them on the spot. Barry Allen was Flash. What the hell was Snart thinking when he gave Mardon the consent to go out with the boy? This was crazy! But the mirrors did not lie.
- Check again, Sam.-said Rose.-This can't be.
- You know that mirrors don't lie. And we've checked it three times, Rose.-said Sam.
Sam was tired, no! He was exasperated by the situation. No one informed him of anything! He was the last to know about things and on top of that he now had the difficult choice of letting Mark find out for himself or telling him himself! Knowing Mark, he would have already become attached to Allen, because although he didn't want to admit him to anyone, he was already attached to Flash. They were all attached to Flash! Because all the villains got attached to their heroes for whatever insane reason! Now, there was a difference between getting attached and dating one of them.
Pin pictures to the wall for obsessing over Flash like Snart did? It was completely valid!
Hang out with the Flash like Mardon did? Where had that been seen? That a villain dates his hero!
"I think we should tell him," Rose said. "He's going to find out at any moment and when he does, he's going to know that we already knew. And you know him, he's going to be pissed off and see it as a betrayal."
"What if we spoil a relationship that is likely to be long and lasting?" Sam asked.
"A relationship based on a lie is going to end badly, Sam." Rose reminded him.
"If we tell him now, Rose, Mardon won't want to meet Allen and you know the shitty people Mardon hangs out with, he always ends up depressed and saying he'll die alone. Maybe this is the only moderately healthy relationship that he has had so far.-said Sam hugging her.-Look at it on the positive side, honey, at least Allen is not Batman. Now that would be unpleasant and probably an abusive relationship. Flash has never used brute force against us."
- I thought you didn't like Flash, Sam.-said Rose.-I feel a little jealous.
"I don't like Flash, Rose," Sam reminded her. "I respect him, he's a worthy adversary, I agree with Snart on that, no matter how hard it is for me to admit it. That's why I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and I'm not going to say anything to Mardon, I'd rather he find out on his own."
Rose knew exactly what would happen. Mardon was as fickle as the weather, but they also knew that if Allen wasn't trustworthy, Snart wouldn't have arranged a date between them. Even though she didn't seem like it and everyone knew that Snart and Sam had their differences, Sam blindly trusted the man, knowing that he would never let anything happen to his rogue.
Unbeknownst to them, Mardon saw the mirrors. Sometimes he flew in to relax, and many rogues forgot to close the curtains, so Mardon could spy on them without them knowing. But there was Barry Allen in the Flash suit, Barry Allen taking off the Flash suit, Barry Allen running around with the scarlet ray. Deep inside him, Mardon knew. It was too pretty to be true. In the short time that he had known Barry, Mardon knew that this was the guy for him, despite all the encounters of him trying to kill Barry, if he could forgive him, Mardon could forgive that Joe West killed his brother. It had been hard for him to accept, but Joe and Barry were separate people, and rogues didn't kill. Never.
Anger began to invade him and lightning gathered in his hands. In an instant, the sky of Central City was darkened by storm clouds. Strong winds hit windows and tried to uproot the trees and everything caught in its path. Citizens tried to take shelter as soon as possible. Mardon knew that he had little time before the Flash showed up. He was angry! He felt cheated, betrayed by everyone. How many of the rogues knew that the Flash was Barry Allen? Snart had been toying with him from the beginning. He knew it and didn't tell him.
There were a thousand and one reasons not to go out with the Flash, as much as he liked Barry Allen. Mardon had fully trusted the rogues and they had failed him. All! He couldn't hear the conversation between Rose and Sam, but he didn't have to, he had the evidence in the mirrors.
In one of the mirrors of the Master Mirror, the situation outside was reflected. Sam and Rose saw Mark with his lightning bolt, the storm that was about to break out in Central City. Rose turned and looked out the window. There, in front of her, was The Time Wizard in all his glory. It had been a long time since they had seen Mark in that state of fury, the same one he had when his brother was killed so many years ago.
"What have we done, Sam?" Rose asked.
But there was no need for Sam to answer, Top knew that Mardon's storm was unleashed and that this time it would be very difficult to stop it. Mardon felt cheated and the weather reflected his mood. Top could understand Cold. If Mardon had known Allen was Flash, he would never have agreed to have drinks with him, he probably wouldn't even want to meet him. But had this been worth it? Top looked at the Master Mirror, since they met they had always been together. She hoped that Mardon would not unleash the lightning and storm on them, but if he did, Top and the Master Mirror would be together until the end.
