It had been a few weeks since Sly had disappeared in La Paradox's blimp, and everything had gone back to normal, except for the fact that Sly had not appeared. Carmelita was working for Interpol again, busting criminals at an exceptionally fast pace, earning her a promotion at work. Murray had become a boxing champion match, having worked his way through the ranks with ease due to his newfound anger. Bentley was continuously studying the Thievius Racoonus for any changes but still had not found any. At least, not until this particular night. The machine that held the Thievius Racoonus let off a loud shriek around three in the morning, waking Bentley from his slumber. He grabbed his glasses, pulled himself into his wheelchair, and looked to see what was causing the alarm to go off. "Hmm, this is strange. It looks as if there is something that has changed in Henriette's section of the Thievius Racoonus." He looked through the book but didn't initially see anything different. He pulled out a magnifying glass and looked at his machine to see exactly what page had changed. Having found the page, he looked at the eyes of Clockwerk as Henriette's ship was attacked by the giant bird. Then, he found a note scribbled at the bottom very hastily. All it said was, 'Sly with me, 1615.' He couldn't believe it, but it seemed that Sly had ended up safely with his ancestor Henriette Cooper, stuck somewhere in the year 1615. Bentley called Carmelita with the biggest grin on his face. When she answered the phone, she said groggily, "What is it, Bentley? It's three in the morning. I have work in a few hours." "I know where Sly is. Do you think you can find me an artifact dated from the year 1615 in a local museum and procure it legally?" "Wait, you found Sly. Where?" "He is somewhere on a pirate ship in the middle of the ocean, probably near modern-day Arabia. He is with Henriette "One-Eyed" Cooper." "So, he is with a pirate ancestor. Got it. Let me do some research, and I will get back to you in a few hours." With that, Carmelita ended the call.

Carmelita looked down to her swollen stomach, filled for the first time with hope that her child would have a father to grow up with. She had been hiding the fact that she was pregnant from Bentley and Murray, not wanting to further increase the guilt that they had felt since Sly's disappearance. She quickly pulled out her laptop, searching for an artifact from the time period and location she was given. In doing so, she found the perfect one. It was the treasure that Sly had passed up during their time spent in Arabia. It was the goblet that belonged to Sinbad that was later stolen by Henriette Cooper. She wondered if it would work. So, she made a few calls to have it moved to evidence as part of one of her cases, got dressed in some baggy clothes, and went on her way to collect the cup from evidence. As soon as it arrived, she signed the item out and went directly to Bentley. When she arrived at the Cooper hideout, she knocked at the door and was immediately ushered in by Murray as he opened the door for her. "So, Bentley. I hope this will work. I found the cup that Henriette Cooper stole from Sinbad. Do you think it can take us back to 1615?" "It's definitely worth a shot. With this cup's history, there is bound to be traces of either her DNA or someone from the time period on it. It will take me at least an hour or two to analyze it, so get yourself some food either from the kitchen or out somewhere and maybe take a short rest. We won't be stopping again until we find Sly." Murray immediately got up at the mention of food and the possibility of going hungry. Being a nice host, he asked Carmelita, "Do you want me to make you a snack. I'm sure that I have makings for a sandwich, or maybe some cake and ice cream, or cereal? Maybe a little bit of each. I don't know what to make." Carmelita laughed and said, "Whatever you are having, Murray." Murray began to make sandwiches. After he was done, he placed one in front of Carmelita. Usually, she wasn't a picky eater, but as soon as she took her first bite, she felt like she needed to vomit. She swallowed the bite, but it didn't stay down for long. She excused herself, running to the bathroom. She made it just in time to put her head over the toilet as her dinner from a few hours before came up.

When she got up, she noticed that Murray was behind her with a concerned look. "Are you alright, Carmelita? Was it the food I made?" "No, Murray. I'm fine. I guess I have a little explaining to do." She slightly lifted her shirt and turned to the side. Murray looked confused as first but then noticed her slightly swollen belly. "Wait, you're pregnant? Is Sly the father?" "Yes, Murray. I am pregnant, and Sly is the father. I just found out last week and have been having terrible morning sickness. Tell you what, you can have the sandwich and I'll just take some of that cake and ice cream if we keep this our little secret. I really wanted Sly to be the first to know." "I wondered why you changed out your uniform for a baggy sweatshirt and yoga pants. Don't worry, I'll keep your secret. I really can't wait to be an uncle! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl? What are you going to name him or her? And you were telling the truth about that sandwich, right?" "Murray, it is too soon to know either of those things and yes. You can have the sandwich." With that, they went back into the kitchen. Murray quickly disposed of the sandwiches, while Carmelita ate a scoop of ice cream with a heaping slice of cake. Since finding out she was pregnant, all of her cravings had been for sweet foods. She hoped that she wouldn't gain a ton of weight from the excess junk food she had been eating on a daily basis.

When they were done eating, Murray said, "You can take a nap in my room if you want until Bentley is ready. You just look a bit tired." "No, I'll take the couch. You go take a nap in your room." "No, I could never allow a lady to sleep on the couch. What about Sly's bed? Do you want to take a nap in there?" She agreed and said, "I will see you in a bit. A nap sounds really nice right about now." With that, she slowly made her way down the hall to Sly's bedroom. She didn't want to tell Murray, but sometimes she snuck into Sly's room in the middle of the night when she couldn't sleep. Whether it was to steal a shirt of his that still smelled like him or lay down on his bed that they used to share most nights before his disappearance, she just couldn't help herself. Bentley had caught her sneaking in once or twice but was never rude to her. He just would say, "I'll leave the window unlocked," before closing the door. She grabbed a shirt of Sly's before sitting on the edge of his bed. She held a hand over her stomach and said, "I don't know if you can hear me yet, but in a few hours, we may find your father. I really hope we do... No, I know that we will find him. And after we do, I am not letting anything happen to him ever again. Oh, who am I kidding? He will always find a way back to his thieving roots and get himself into trouble," she said with a laugh. "I remember the first time that I ever arrested your father. It actually was after he defeated Clockwerk. We were in the air flying over Paris for hours before I noticed something amiss. As soon as I turned my back, he jumped out of the helicopter and stole my celebratory bottle of champagne. Then, he left it in my office at Interpol a few hours later with his calling card. Or the first time he ever got shocked with my pistol. It was when we were in China during General Tsao's wedding. I shocked him multiple times, not realizing that he had a battery on his back. As soon as I turned my back to call in for an extraction, that silly man got up and jumped off a cliff with his paraglider. What I'm getting at is that your father, though he may get himself into some situations, always manages to find a way out. I really can't wait to meet you and watch you grow up. You will learn from both sides of the law. An inspector and a thief. Who would've thought?" She looked down at her stomach before crawling on the bed, placing her head on Sly's pillow and holding his shirt close to her face. With that, she closed her eyes and let the exhaustion from the previous days hit her with full force, pulling her into a dreamless sleep.
