Day Two
"Hm?" The door opens up and Giyu comes face to face with a girl with pink and green hair. She was dressed in PJ's patterned with sheep with her hair uniquely tied in three braids. If he recalls correctly, she was the girl Iguro was talking to at Orientation. Giyu's relieved it isn't the butterfly girl... was she her cabin mate?
"Umm, hello?? You're... Shinobu's friend right?" She asks politely and Giyu just nods his head. He also picks up on the fact that the butterfly girl's name was Shinobu. He was supposed to see her but seeing this girl instead had eased his nerves by 1000%. But... what's he supposed to do now? Shinobu was likely asleep.
"Hm? What's that?" She asks as she peers down to his closed fist. It's the purple flower that Uzui gave him earlier that was meant for Shinobu. He opens up his palm and frightenly jumps when she squeals pretty loudly.
"Oh my goodness! Is this, maybe, is it meant for Shinobu?" She asks as she leans real close to his face. Giyu assumes so since he wasn't the one who got it? He reluctantly nods slowly.
"OH. MY. You HAVE to come inside! I need to hear this! I never figured you for the crazy-romantic type!" She blurts excitedly as she hauls Giyu inside. Why are all the girls here so strong?
He stumbles inside and hears the cabin door shut. To actually be inside a girl's cabin... it was a lot different than entering a guys' cabin for sure. He also notices that Shinobu isn't even in the cabin. Did girls have different rules when it came to cabins?
"Okay!" She hops around and pulls a chair out for Giyu before plopping down on the bottom bunk. She clasps her hands together and looks at him with bright glistening eyes.
"How did you two meet? How long have you been dating? Have you guys kissed yet? Do you plan to marry? Maybe have kids?" She fires one question off after another, each one blatantly more bizarre than the last. It makes Giyu's face heat up rather quickly, and it doesn't help when she's looking at him with hyper-focused eyes. Still, these theories of hers were just off the charts crazy!
"M-me and Shinobu aren't dating! I've only just met her today!" Giyu shuts it down immediately, even if the glee drops from the girl's face. She quickly perks up again however.
"Wow, I thought you were a cute shy kid, but sneaking out and giving her such a beautiful flower upon meeting her? You're much more daring than I gave you credit for," she says in wondrous awe. Never in a hundred million years would Giyu do something like this himself, how the hell did Uzui convince him?
"Hmm it is unfortunate though, Shinobu decided not to sleep in her cabin today. She's staying the night with her older sister in the counselor's cabin," she explains, and Giyu is kind of surprised to hear the counselor is Shinobu's sister. Though the resemblance made it kind of obvious now that he thinks about it, her sister is much kinder though.
The girl is, for some reason, blushing and kicking her feet in the air. She's glancing a Giyu for one second and then giggling once she pulls away. He starts to feel a bit uncomfortable, he wonders if she's just messing with him.
"To think you'd make this big a step so early... it's so romantic!" She says before squealing into her pillow. Giyu's throat feels dry and he doesn't have a clue on how he's gonna get out of here. Also why is she so convinced about him and Shinobu getting... together.
She jolts up suddenly and hits her head on the wooden frame, yet Giyu's the one who winces from it. She's holding her head in pain but also looking at Giyu assertively.
"Ow ow ow... okay, I'll see it through to help Shinobu fall for you! You can count on me on these things, I'm a love expert!" She states proudly and Giyu groans to himself. The last thing he wanted was a second Tengen...
Giyu glances around the room and it's a lot more well-kept than his cabin. It even smelled nice in here and Giyu didn't even find a room freshener.
"Hey, when you and Shinobu get together, you've got to treat her right! We can't have a repeat of the last time Shinobu had a boyfriend," Mitsuri says as she shook her head left and right. Was Douma really so bad that it even left a sour memory on a girl this optimistic? Giyu was usually the kind to mind his own business, but he found himself intrigued to know what happened between Shinobu and Douma for no apparent reason.
"What happened between them? Can you tell me?" He asked and she stopped swaying.
"That's not really something for me to decide," she says bitterly and Giyu begins to stammer.
"A-ah! Y-yeah you're right... You're, c-completely ri-" Mitsuri raises a index finger to her lips and winks.
"Buuut~! I believe Shinobu won't mind if I tell you. You'll be getting with her anyway so you have to know!" She says as she breaks out into a grin. Giyu blushes.
"I keep telling you we're not-" He was interrupted again.
"Douma and Shinobu were together last year. He was Shinobu's first but really we don't want to count it because well... Shinobu dumped him the same day they got together!" She says in a humorous tone. Even Giyu cringes at that, getting dumped after a few hours is pitiful even for him. Still...
"What did he do to make her break up with him so quickly??" Giyu's immediate thought was that he instantly got caught cheating...
"He got caught cheating on her," Ah so he was ri-
"3 times." What??? Three times??? How can you even possibly manage that??
"Wha- how is that even possible?" He asks in utter disbelief. This doesn't even happen in movies.
"Well... he would start ogling at girls, ask for their numbers, flirt with them, and make date plans. All while he was with Shinobu, and the same girls he would flirt with all told Shinobu at the same time... it was really a surprise considering how he approached Shinobu with great mannerisms and politeness," Mitsuri said with a look of fondness. It suddenly hits Giyu that he's talking about someone's background without their permission and he begins to feel guilty, for both the fact that her first experience was horrible as well as the guilt for not asking her about it.
"Well, I appreciate you telling me. My name's Giyu by the way," he says as he extends his hand to greet her. She blushes a bit.
"So formal," she grabs his hand and squeezes it.
"Mitsuri Kanroji, pleasure to meet you!" He nods as he squeezes back.
"Well, I should be heading back now, it'd be very bad if I were to get caught being here," he says as the situation sinks back in. He's going to give Tengen an earful about this...
"Right, how you were sneaking to a girls' camp and even going inside on of their cabins? Yeah that makes you sound like real pervert!" She says as she giggles. Giyu isn't laughing one bit, that's the last thing he wants to be known as...
"Well, be seeing you," he says as he turns away to hide his embarassment. He hears her giggling behind him.
"Bye bye~! Come back only during day hours~" she teases. Giyu shakes his burning head and walks out. The last thing he wants to do is this again...
--
The cold air attacks him as soon as even the smallest crack in the door is formed. He gets goosebumps immediately, it feels so much colder than he remembers. He shuts the door and rubs his hands together.
"So cold..." he says to himself.
"Indeed it is." A voice says and he feels his heart plummet, all the hairs on his arms and neck stand at attention as his brain becomes empty. There's a very firm hand being placed on his shoulder that's followed by a chilling sweet voice. It reminded him of death.
"Say, Tomioka. Why are you here at the Girls' camp way past curfew, hm?" Her voice drips like venom and Giyu can't even form sentences in his head. All he can feel is utter fear, he can see the resemblance between the two very clearly suddenly. He gulps.
"We, are going to have chat. Kay?" Her tone is friendly, but Giyu knows better. This is his death sentence.
--
*yawn* "Oh man, what the hell did you need to wake me up so early for... huh?" Sanemi steps inside and seems like he's registering the situation at hand. After Giyu got caught by Kanae, she took him to the counselor's office and stared at him with a sweet smile as they waited for Sanemi to arrive.
Sanemi, his vicious counselor, was dressed in... teddy bear pajamas. Giyu probably would've had to fight to hold back his laughter if he wasn't currently in deep shit right now.
"...Holy fuck, I fuckin told you this kid was a real problem Kanae!" Sanemi says and Giyu's surprised that he wasn't immediately attacked by him. Given what he's seen of him, he's a no nonsense kind of person.
"I suppose you were right Sanemi, I'm truly disappointed in him..." she says and he actually recoils from that, it actually hurt to hear that coming from someone as kind as her...
"Alrighty," Sanemi plops down on his chair.
"What did this shit stain do?"
"He was caught coming out of a girls' cabin way past curfew hours." Kanae states, and it sounds so much worse than what it really was... even though that was exactly what it was. Sanemi has a bored look on his face and rolls his eyes.
"Haha, I know this kid's bad, but he's a loser who wouldn't even consider doing that. C'mon what's the real reason?" She continues to glare Giyu down with a smile glued to her face, even Sanemi looks nervous from it. He's looking back and forth between and when he catches on that Kanae isn't joking...
"Oh shit, you're fucking done kid. Your life is over," is all he says as he looks at Giyu with... was that worry in his eyes?!? Giyu was truly doomed.
"Gotta hand it to ya, I never thought you of all people had the balls to do somethin like this. You're still a disgusting pervert though," and that is another nail in Giyu's coffin, he absolutely did not want to be marked as a pervert for the rest of his life!
"What do you think we should do with him Sanemi? I believe you'd make the right call-"
"Immediate expulsion. Plus a call to whoever's taking care of him," Sanemi blurted immediately. Giyu's eyes widened in panic, expulsion right off the bat?! He looked to Kanae in desperation... deep down her kind heart would save him right??
"Now, Sanemi... don't you think that you're going too... easy on him?" She says coldly. Giyu believes he heard wrong, this was as bad it could get couldn't it?!
"He won't truly learn his lesson this way. Calling his parents and expelling him is the bare minimum, but we should put this on his record as well. Sending him to Juvenile detention center wouldn't be bad either," Juvie??!? His record?!?! He couldn't believe what he was hearing... his hands reached into his hair and he pulled it a bit, this was by far... worse than anything he's ever had to go through.
How would he tell Tsutako? What could he possibly say... his life was over and he'd be branded as a criminal... there was absolutely nothing he could do. He was ruined.
Sanemi glanced at him from the side of his eye and huffed.
"You've really gone and done it now, haven't you Giyu?" He says pitifully, and it's the nicest thing he's said to Giyu.
"Maybe this will teach him to follow the rules... though you are permanently banned from this camp, and likely any other summer camp," her voice oozed with venom, dangerous potent venom.
Giyu slammed his fists into his thighs, the pain there was nothing compared to the turmoil he was going through right now. He started having some bad thoughts, dangerous ones... but deep down, he'd never act on them. He supposes this is what he deserved after all, he could've simply said no to Tengen after all...
"I believe Mitsuri should be expelled as well, it was her who let him inside her cabin after all. Shinobu was staying with me tonight. I'm glad she won't be acquainted with a pervert like you anymore..." Kanae says absentmindedly. Giyu's fists open up and he lays his now flat hands atop his thighs. Rubbing them now since hitting them earlier actually hurt...
Huh? He felt something.
He digs his hand into his pocket and pulls out a card, the one he won with Shinobu. A card that grants him-
!!!
He had an idea, it probably wouldn't work but no way was he going to sit by and let his life be destroyed.
--
Sanemi felt kind of bad for the poor bastard, but no way was he going to argue with Kanae when she was this pissed. Holy hell she was terrifying, and he wouldn't even dream of saying that to her face. Still... if only the kid had some kind of saving grace, but it really is over for him and probably his life too. Now... what was his parents' number?
"U-umm... e-excuse me...?" Huh? Was Giyu actually talking?
Sanemi turns around and the poor thing has hid head faced down to the floor. He spares a glance at Kanae and immediately looks away, she's still royally pissed...
"So you can talk eh? Got any last words or somethin?" He ask. Sanemi feels as though Kanae wouldn't mind if he granted Giyu this much at the very least.
"Y-you see... I didn't do anything inside that cabin with Mitsuri so don't punish her for it but... I also thought I had access to the Girls' side of the camp," he says and I shake my head. Terrible excuse, he expected more from the runt.
"We made it absolutely clear you can't visit the other camp past curfew, so you can't use that as an excuse," Sanemi says sharply. It's harsh but there's really nothing Giyu could do.
"You guys said I could..." he says and Sanemi wonders what his aim is in dragging this out. Does he think he can get out of this by simply denying the facts? If so, then he's probably lost it.
He glances at Kanae and she's staring back at him with similar confusion. The anger is still definetely there but he just shrugs back at her. He doesn't know where he's going with this.
"Look kid there is absolutely no way either of us told you that you could visit the other camp especially during these hours. There's no point in-"
"You guys did tell me... when you gave me this." He reveals the... aww shit. It's the card that gives him access to do whatever he wants for a selected day. Sanemi can't fight back the grin on his face, clever bastard.
"That card can only work when you tell us you're using it. And it's still restricted by curfew rules." Kanae said without skipping a beat. He looks to Giyu, seeing squirm under her gaze. He's looking forward to what else the runt has to offer.
"You... failed to inform me about those rules..." he said and Sanemi can feel the anger roll off in seismic waves from Kanae. This kid had some serious guts wording it like that in front of Kanae when she's like this...
And that is exactly why he's going to help him out here, he's going to need it after all.
"Welp, can't argue with that. The blame falls on us, Kanae," Sanemi says as nonchalantly as he can. She slowly turns her head and the smile drops from her face. Was it too late to back out and just expel Giyu again?
"You're not being serious now, are you Sanemi?" She says and seeing her without her smile was making him shit bricks.
"I am. How can we blame him when he wasn't even informed of the limitations?" He pushed on, despite there being a high chance that Kanae would physically hurt him after this, secretly he liked rule breakers. It made his job as a counselor a hell of a lot more interesting.
"...Fine. We'll let you off the hook for now Giyu... but you've lost all privileges to those cards as well as future ones," she says as she takes the card from his hands. Well, Sanemi can't believe Giyu actually found a way out of this. He's going to keep an eye on him though, who knows what kind of things he'll do in the future. He's clearly the most dangerous kid to look out for this year...
Surpisingly Sanemi finds himself proud of the bastard. Unfortunately, when Sanemi is proud of someone, he rips into them even harder than how he treated them already. Giyu was in for it now...
--
Giyu barely makes it to his cabin, it's 4 in the morning and roll call starts at 7. He should really just stay awake at this point but his body yearns for the bed.
He opens the door and half-expects Tengen to greet him. Instead, he's knocked out cold on the top bunk with his butt raised in the air. At least someone was sleeping peacefully, Giyu thought with a scoff.
He lays on his bed as it creaks softly, the plushy mattress enveloping his body in a comfortable fashion that has Giyu snoring within seconds. Ohh some much needed sleep was what he needed. And he's still here at camp, not expelled...
--
"ROLLLLLL CALLLLL!!!! WAKE UP YA FILTHY MAGGOTS!!" Sanemi blares through a... megaphone? Whoever thought it was a great idea to give him that had no regard for mercy on the campers...
Tengen is up in an instant and sees Giyu's lazy bum knocked out cold in the bed. He shakes his head in disappointment, rest is very important for teenagers. He was in a deep sleep though... this called for the big guns.
"Hey, no sleeping in allowed!" Tengen says as he jumps atop Giyu's body, giving him a very rude awakening. Giyu wheezes and feels like someone just dropped a bowling ball on his stomach.
"OOF!! T-Tengen... what the hell!" Giyu seethes as he clutched his stomach in pain. He needed this thing to eat! Tengen stares down at him and grins.
"Hey now, give me my thanks! I just saved you from having to run laps in the morning. Also, did you swoon over the girl? Are you both together now?" He asks but Giyu rolls his eyes and starts getting dressed. Maybe he can give him the silent treatment.
"Oh no! Did she reject you?! No no no Giyu what have you done?! My plan was foolproof and yet you ruined it!" Tengen wails and his loud crying is not something Giyu can deal with first thing in the morning.
"Tengen shut the hell up! She wasn't even in the cabin so you're stupid plan failed!" Giyu screams and it's not like him to lose his cool like that. His face flushed, he can't believe he just made an outburst like that! No one ever gets a rise out of him...
"Sheesh, It's not my fault she wasn't there," Tengen said with a pout. He didn't really care if he got yelled at, he's not some weakling who gets his feelings hurt from other people.
"So what's you do with the flower then," he asks as he picks his ear. Giyu puts a dark blue shirt on over his head before answering.
"Well. Her friend, Mitsuri, was there so I gave it to her instead. I think she just left it on Shinobu's bed though," Giyu says blandly. Tengen is quiet now and it's strange. Giyu puts on the rest of his clothes before turning and almost walking straight into Tengen's face.
"Hold up, do you know what you just did?" Tengen says seriously as he firmly grasps his shoulders. Why does everyone keep doing that to him?
"No... did I fail?" Giyu's says sarcastically while rolling his eyes. Tengen violently shakes his head.
"No no, quite the opposite my youngling! What you did, is think of a way to fix the situation on the spot and revovered quite spectacularly! Well, I didn't know you had that kind of dog in ya!" Tengen says proudly. He's also fake wiping tears from his eyes- wait, were those real tears?! Giyu shifts uncomfortably.
"HEY CABIN 2! YOU GUYS HAVE 5 SECONDS TO GET YOUR ASSES OUT HERE OR IT'S TEN LAPS AROUND THE CAMP!!!" Sanemi yells and both him and Tengen waste no time. The conversation is immediately disregarded and they're both pushing themselves out the door and racing to stand next to everyone else at roll call.
--
Giyu's best when he makes it to roll call, his body still isn't fully awake and his eyes feel like shutting down and never opening after. He can hear Sanemi blowing into his whistle but he can't really make out anything else after that, his heart pounded in his eardrums.
"Tomioka Giyu! Stand up straight and listen to Sir Sanemi when he is speaking please!" Rengoku yells as he picks Giyu's face up with his hands. It feels as though he's staring straight into his soul, why are his eyes so intense?
"That's right! Unless you feel like running 20 laps!" Giyu fixes himself right away and stands straight as an arrow, he absolutely does not want to run laps.
"Anyways, as I was saying! Me and Kanae don't really have anything planned, so today will pretty much be a free day!" Everyone cheers at that but it barely lasts a second before he's roughly blowing into his whistle again.
"Now listen, just because it's a free day doesn't mean you guys aren't able to lose that privilege! You all can royally fuck this all up, and I actually get the feeling that one of your dumbasses will fuck this up. If you ruin it for everyone or yourself, that I don't know," he says as he pointedly looks at Giyu. Giyu's taken aback from this, he's the last person who would do such things. Though he supposed Sanemi's image of him would suggest otherwise...
"Today's meal prepared for y'all this morning is some oatmeal! We have Burgers and fries planned for the afternoon," he announces and Giyu's looking forward to the food, especially the burgers.
"Right, now head on over to the cafeteria. I gotta do some boring ass paperwork before I get a plate..." he grumbles lowly to himself, something about being an adult and about how the campers are luckier than he was? Giyu ignores it and walks to the cafeteria. He spots Iguro and walks up to him.
"H-hey! Iguro right? Wanna grab breakfast together?" Giyu asks but he's given the cold shoulder. Guess that's a no... he wonders if he's just a grumpy person in the mornings. He assumed he was. Eating alone isn't that bad anyway, he told himself.
--
Giyu watches the mountain of a man scoop up some oatmeal and watches it splat onto his plate. The apron was way too tight for the man and he looked like he was about to cry. He hands the tray back to Giyu, a solemn look on his face.
"Here you go... young padawan," he says as he serves Giyu a... questionable-looking meal. The menu said Oatmeal but it looked like throw-up. Also what on earth is a padawan? He grabs his tray and scans the cafeteria to find an empty spot to sit at. All 4 tables were taken... maybe he could sit in the corner? Before he even took a step to the corner of the room, someone was waving their hand and calling his name.
"Giyu! Giyu! Come sit with us!" Mitsuri's calling him over, but she's also sitting next to Shinobu. He doesn't have a particular reason why but his gut instinct is telling him to not sit with them. He shrugs it off and hesitantly makes his way to their table, it would be rude to ignore her anyway.
"Ummm, hi," he greets and he can faintly hear Shinobu giggling. He sits down next to her and taps his fingers on the table. This felt kind of weird...
"Hi Giyu, how'd you sleep?" Shinobu asks. The question puts him on edge and he wonders if Mitsuri's told her about what happened last night. He looks to Mitsuri in question but's she's busy eating her... third tray of oatmeal?
"I um, didn't really get much sleep last night," he says honestly. She hums a bit at that and he wonders if she's feigning ignorance. Mitsuri gets up to get a 4th tray.
"Any particular reason why you didn't sleep much? Maybe you're the type to stay up on their phone?" She asks and he shakes his head.
"Just... first day jitters I suppose," he settles. He doesn't want to risk revealing that he snuck to her cabin last night... if her sister was like that when she saw him... he didn't even want to imagine Shinobu's reaction.
"I'm baaaack~! This oatmeal is really yummy! Are you going to eat yours Giyu?" Mitsuri asks and Giyu nods his head. She pouts... wow she can really eat a lot.
He picks at the 'oatmeal' in question... surely it must be good if Mitsuri's gotten 4 trays of it, right? He sticks his fork in and pulls out a decent chunk. It wobbles and falls apart so he sticks it in fast, and it's...
not too bad actually.
Giyu digs into his breakfast, shoving forkfuls in his mouth and occasionally sipping on his juice. Mitsuri grabs a 5th tray and Shinobu offers half of hers to Mitsuri.
"I'm afraid the oatmeal wasn't to my liking," Shinobu says nervously. Mitsuri all but accepts the offer and gobbles to her heart's content.
"So, get this!" Shinobu starts off to no one in particular.
"I was heading back to my cabin in the morning, but there was a Wisteria flower on my bed! Mitsuri says she didn't put it there, I didn't take one during the tour... maybe it was my sister?" Shinobu ponders with a finger on her chin. Giyu almost chokes on his meal. He's sweating bullets, he didn't know what to say.
"Gee, that's erm... strange?" He says. He can hear Mitsuri facepalm but Shinobu just smiles at him. He jumps when he's suddenly kicked under the table, so he looks at the only person sitting across from him. Mitsuri.
"I think Giyu might have a pretty good idea as to how it got there, maybe even the reason behind it," she expressed slowly. Oh Giyu understands, but he can't just say 'Oh hey Shinobu, I snuck over to your cabin late at night to give you this flower, durrr' that's just weird!
"Ah? Do you really have any idea why Giyu?" She asks as she looks in his direction. He gulps before he stammers.
"U-umm, no I don't really. I don't know what Mitsuri is talking about in all honesty," he says, glaring at Mitsuri for a bit. She frowns and looks to the side, mumbling something to herself.
"Hmm, Mitsuri seems so sure, are you telling the truth? I would hate it if you lied to me..." she says in mock-hurt. Giyu gives her a puzzled look before nodding his head.
"Yes I'm sure, can we please drop this subject now-"
"TOMIOKA GIYU!!" Someone screams out, grabbing the attention of everyone in the cafeteria, lunch man included. Giyu looks up and sees a seething Iguro glaring at him. He wonders if something's happened?
"You...! You...! Traitor!!" His voice comes out very strained, and he's gripping his food tray until the veins on his hands are popping out. He's shaking and Giyu suddenly gets a very bad feeling.
"D-did I do something to make you upset?" He asks and that's when Iguro loses it. He grabs his untouched oatmeal with his bare hands and and flings it towards Giyu. He's hit straight in the face but Iguro doesn't stop there. His hand grabs another chunk and he's reeling his arm back when.
"Nooo Iguro! Don't waste the delicious oatmeal!" Mitsuri pleads. She's worried over the oatmeal instead of Giyu? Giyu grumbles and tries wiping the gunk off his face. Some of it got in his hair too...
He's done wiping it off and Mitsuri is calming Iguro down, now why did he do that for? As Giyu's trying to find the reason behind it, he feels someone poking at his shoulder.
"Yoohoo, I think you missed a spot Giyu," Shinobu says. Yeesh... it really was everywhere on him.
"Where?" Giyu says as he aimlessly wipes his face. He then suddenly feels a goo-like substance smear on his cheek. Shinobu had dragged oatmeal across his face.
"Right... there!" She says like she didn't just put it on him. Oh, so she felt like laying games now did she? Well two can play at that game. He picked up his plastic fork.
"I think a bit got on you too, Shinobu..." he says and she actually looks alarmed.
"Eh?! W-where? Is it in my hair? Or-" whatever she was going to say is cut off midway since Giyu had pulled his fork back and flung some oatmeal at her. It landed with a wet splat directly on her nose.
"Looks like some landed on your nose," he says nonchalantly as she grabs a napkin and calmly wipes herself off. Once she's done, she silently walks to get another tray, the very last one. Giyu raced over to her and grabbed the tray last second.
"Giyu, let me eat the last oatmeal tray?" She asks sweetly but Giyu knows better, he knows she's trying to trick him into giving it to her.
"No can do, I'm a bit hungry as well."
"Then, naturally we should share right?" She takes a step closer and Giyu holds the tray higher.
"Not another step closer, do it and see what happens," Giyu warns. She smiles wider and Giyu think's she's about to back down.
Until she leaps towards him, and the tray of oatmeal falls from his hands.
--
"Man oh man! Finally! I'm glad I got that out the way, time to grub on whatever Gyomei whipped up," Sanemi says to himself as he walks to the cafeteria. He envisions a nice steaming oatmeal waiting for him... He can smell the oatmeal before he's even at the doorway and it makes his stomach growl.
"Let's see what's on the...FUCK!?!" Sanemi blurts at the scene. It's... it's outrageous! Oatmeal is splattered everywhere! On the floor, the campers, and somehow on the ceiling?! He hears two loud laughing voices and turns sharply to them. The culprits, Kanae's younger sister and... Tomioka.
He stomps towards them, if Giyu had caused another scene... then he was much more dangerous than Sanemi anticipated.
"Who caused this? Tell me now." Sanemi says sharply. Giyu gulps in panic and Shinobu looks off to the side. Guess it was time to pull out the bad cop...
"Listen here you two imbeciles, if neither of you say anything now, I'ma have to punish the both of you and your camps! You two really want that? HUH?!!" He says aggressively but the two wouldn't budge. He grits his teeth and feels someone poke his shoulder.
"What?!" He says as he turns around to face another kid covered in oatmeal.
"I just wanted to say that is was Giyu who started it sir, he even hit me as you can see..." he says as he wipes a decent portion of oatmeal off his face. Even a bystander like Douma got hit?
"Did he now? Then I guess it's clear..." he reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a comically large megaphone. He clears his throat and coughs into his hand.
"Listen up Tomioka Giyu! I don't know why you did this but there is no excuse you have for this! You're hereby grounded to your cabin for the rest of the day! Rengoku! You're to bring lunch and dinner to him during the times!" Sanemi barks out. Rengoku salutes from Giyu's peripheral, but Giyu's just wondering when he hit Douma of all people. Shinobu stands up.
"W-wait a minute Sanemi! Giyu didn't start this and Douma never got hit! He's lying!" Shinobu says and Giyu's looking up at her in awe.
Was she... defending him?
"Is that so? Well, care to tell me who started-"
"It was me. I did it," Shinobu states firmly. Sanemi's eyebrows rise in surprise. Why was she...?
"You do realize you won't be getting off easier just because you're Kanae's younger sister right?" Sanemi half-threatens. He sees her tense up.
"I understand," Giyu shook his head. He wasn't about to let Shinobu take the fall... even though she kinda was the one who started it.
"I appreciate you sticking up for me Shinobu but it's fine, I'll take the blame for this," Giyu says as he looks up. He probably looked reslly lame with all the oatmeal covering him.
"It was me, so do your worst counselor," Giyu says bitterly. He sees Sanemi grin at him lightly.
"Well aren't you somethin..." he mutters.
"Giyu what are you..." he hears Shinobu but he averts his eyes away from her. He doesn't want her to see him right now. He silently stands up and begins to walk out the cafeteria. He feels everyone's eyes staring into him but he powers through it. He just needs to get to his cabin...
--
Giyu arrives to his cabin and when he got there, he did nothing but sit in solitude. What happened in the cafeteria replayed in his head like a film tape, he cringes at it and groans from embarassment. He sighs out loudly and turns on his bed, facing the wall. It's pretty early on when he notices how boring being in the cabin is. He's still embarassed but he wasn't going to wallow on about it for the rest of the day.
He checks his phone and silently moans, it's barely 8 A.M and curfew is 11 hours from now... He sits up and walks to his drawer, pulling the metal handle on the upper one. Inside are his pencils and new sketchbook he brought from home. It's a bit funny, he expected himself to just be drawing the whole time he was here, but he went through the first day hardly even thinking about it.
He takes them out and sits there for a few minutes, waiting for something to come to mind. It's a bit difficult when all he's thinking about are what happened in the cafeteria. Maybe he can draw people instead? Someone immediately pops into mind, a certain butterfly girl.
He shakes his head, but it doesn't go away. He finds it weird to draw someone like this out of the blue, you ask for permission before drawing someone don't you? He scratches his head. Maybe he can draw a butterfly instead? It feels a bit girly but, the thought of practicing realistic creatures wins him over.
He places the tip of his sharpened pencil and begins drawing simple shapes. He sketches on some lines and erases some when they're longer than what he needs them to be. He's shading the body in but pauses midway at the thought of color. He settled on coloring the wings violet, maybe even blue? He doodles on and on and moves on to other pages, sketching out nothing but butterflies.

There's a knock on his door suddenly and Giyu answers it. His first thought was Tengen but it wasn't, it was the junior counselor Rengoku instead. In his hands is a plate of food and he extends out toward him. Right, Sanemi told him to bring him the meals.
"Evening Tomioka! I bring you a warm plate of fish tacos with a bag of classic potato chips!" He chirps. Giyu rubs his eyes and takes the plate from his hands.
"Thanks-"
"Enjoy!" He cuts as he swiftly turns around trudges off. Giyu calls out after him.
"W-wait! What's... everyone doing?" He asks. He's not sure why he's interested in the first place, maybe because he's been doing nothing but drawing for the past few hours. Also he is curious what everyone is choosing to do with their free time.
"I do not associate myself with troublemakers! I'm afraid you'll have to sit there and think about your actions!" Rengoku spits out in a friendly tone. Still, the words stung a bit. Giyu stares at his plate with a strange emptiness.
He sighs and shuts the door. Rengoku really does take his job seriously, it's both admirable and a bit off-putting. Isn't he just a Junior Counselor? He must be getting paid to be taking it this seriously...
Giyu begins to munch on his fishy taco, it's warm and crispy and all around tasty but... he just doesn't seem to be as hungry as he thought.
He finishes his plate and pulls out his phone. He mindlessly scrolls along and checks on his apps, even the weather one that he never used. He's not up for drawing and he's not tired. It's weird, the feeling to go outside is so out of the ordinary for him. His only window doesn't help either, his graceful view is nothing but an old wooden wall.
He sighs angrily and plops down on his bed. He checks his phone again and it's barely 3 in the afternoon. He shuts it off and stares at the ceiling. For the next 20 minutes, he's trying to take a nap but he damn near shoots out his bed when there's a knock at the door. Giyu's actually looking forward to answering it, even thought it was a high chance it was Tengen. He opens and it's... uh oh, Iguro's standing there.
"Oh, umm hey Iguro," he greets but Iguro remains silent. It's a bit awkward since all he's doing is well... standing there. That and they're not really on best terms right now. He hears him sigh and then pinch the bridge of his nose.
"Look... Mitsuri explained to me what happened. I know there's technically no reason for me to have gone after you like that, but I will make it perfectly clear now that I li-" he cuts himsef off and looks to the cabin's steps. Giyu tilts his head, what was he going to say?
"I li- AHEM! Ya know?" He says and Giyu is dumbfounded, how was he supposed to understand that?
"No... I'm not really catching on," he replied honestly. Iguro mumbled to himself, something about an idiot?
"I... I like Mitsuri, okay?" He says and the bombshell drops on Giyu's head. Wow... she was his total opposite.
"O-oh um, well. You don't have to worry about me, I'm not interested in her like that," Giyu offered but Iguro rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, like that isn't obvious," he scoffed and then began to leave.
"H-hey wait! What do you mean by that?" Giyu asked. Iguro turned around and had the clearest confused scowl on his face.
"Seriously? Everyone knows you like Shinobu."
--
It starts to get late and Giyu's just waiting for Rengoku to bring him his dinner. Dinner starts at 7 so it's unusual for an uptight person like Rengoku to be a few minutes late...
As if on cue, there's a knock at the door. He opens it up and it's...
'Tengen' Giyu thinks with a frown.
"Hello there fledgling! You have been bestowed the great honor of having dinner served to you by me, the Flamboyant Tengen Uzui!" He says proudly. Giyu still isn't impressed and just takes the plate from his hands. The burger and fries he was looking forward to was finally in his hands.
"So, I figured now would be a great time to talk about what we're going to do this time around. I'm thinking maybe this time I have you sing a song to her in front of her cabin, maybe even play a guitar?" Tengen says aloud as nonsense comes out of his mouth. Giyu grits his teeth.
"I won't be doing no such thing tonight. I get caught again and if I somehow live after sneaking out again, I'll for sure be expelled. I'm only here after using that card I won," Giyu grumbles. Tengen blinks.
"But... but you have her right where you want her! She's hanging on the ropes and you have a clear chance to right hook her!" Tengen offers and honestly, that is a horrible way of putting it.
"I don't care, there is no way I'm ever sneaking over to the Girls' Camp again," Giyu affirms and he's glad to see Tengen actually drop a peg from his rejection. Serves him right...
"Ahhh, I think this might be the end of my mission..." Tengen cries and Giyu just flips him off. He hates that this is actually getting on his nerves so easily. Why does this affect him so much?
Giyu angrily takes a bite from his burger.
He finishes his plate and tosses it aside. His conscience gets the better of him and he grabs his plate and sets it atop his drawer. He plops down on his bed with a huff. Tengen shoots to the floor and starts doing his push-ups. Giyu groans and turns to face the window, he's too annoyed to do anything other than sleep.
He lays down with a frown and stares at the stained mattress of Uzui's. Today was absolutely awful, who knows how often Free Days were supposed to be when he had the world's angriest counselors. He thought about Kanae and how she threatened him that night... instantly his anger turned to fear. Well... now he felt comfortable sleeping the rest of the day off.
"Get a good night's rest young Tomioka!" He heard Tengen say and honestly, he hated him right now but...
"Goodnight," he said it back.
--
Giyu stirs at the sound of Tengen jumping off from his bunk. He pulls the blankets up past his ears when he feels the breeze hit him when Tengen opens the door. Knowing Tengen, he was probably going to sneak out despite it being freezing out there. Giyu grows irritated when he hears him burst out into a hyena-like laugh, what the hell could possibly be so funny at this time of night?
Apprarently, something so funny that it has Tengen yanking the blanket off of Giyu.
Giyu's awake now, very much so when his skin is being swarmed by the chilling breeze. His glare at Tengen is colder.
"What. Is it." Giyu draws out slowly as Tengen all but tries to keep his composure. His shoulders are shaking and he can't remove the shit-eating grin off his face.
"Oh boy, you uh. Have a very special visitor young Tomioka...!" He spills out before laughing aloud once more. Giyu's had enough but he's worried that it's one of the counselors at the door. Tengen would probably react like this if they told him why they were here...
He gets up pushes the door open all the way. There is someone standing in the doorway and... Oh,
Shinobu's standing outside.
Giyu stands there, in his blue pajamas while he blatantly stares at Shinobu. He takes of the details on her face, her nose a bit runny and tinted red, seems like she's been standing in the cold long?
"Ah, you seem cold. Do you want to step inside?" Giyu offers, she looks like she's been freezing for a while now. She smiles.
"I appreciate the kind gesture... but there is something I merely wish to say for your ears only" she says as she looks to Tengen for a quick second. He snorts behind him and Giyu quickly nods. He steps outside and closes the door, now he can really feel the frosty wind. He feels his hairs stand on end immediately.
He brings his hands up to rub his arms, the cold air makes his brain a bit more active. It's now that he realizes that Shinobu had just snuck over to the Guys' Camp... to talk to Giyu specifically. He feels odd at this realization... and it makes his heart race. He feels almost... special? Was that it?
"So... what was it that you wanted to ask me?" Giyu asks, avoiding asking why she wanted to tell him this when it was past curfew hours. He's also very intrigued to what she has to say.
"You don't seem too surprised to see me here, are you used to people sneaking around?" She says and Giyu can feel the mock in her voice. It seems Mitsuri was quite the blabber mouth...
"I... well... it wasn't my plan to begin with...! I-I just, I... I'd never do something so dishonoring!" Giyu rambles about and Shinobu has this sort of lightly shocked facial expression for some reason.
"Ara... so you did sneak out to see me last night..." Shinobu says to herself but it's audible for Giyu to hear it. The way she said it... made it sound as if she didn't know for sure if he had done it. That must mean that Giyu... had just exposed himself.
"O-o-Oh. ermm...," Giyu looked to the ground, ashamed and embarassed of his own actions. Shinobu remained quiet, a faint blush plastered on her face. She nervously fiddled with a strand of hair while Giyu suffered from his thoughts.
"...I think the flower you gave me was really pretty if I'm being honest," she said breaking the silence. Giyu clenched his teeth, for some reason it sounded like an excuse to break the awkward silence. That or just to pity him.
"Well, in any case, I came over to speak to you about what happened back there in the cafeteria..." she says, looking to Giyu for a second before looking away. It makes Giyu tense up slightly, it wasn't his proudest memory at camp so far.
"Well... I don't think there is much to talk about regarding that," Giyu says and she shuffles her feet in her slippers which for some reason causes Giyu's heart to beat faster at the sight of her shy appearance.
"Well, for the sake of my mind I just find myself curious to know why you had taken the blame when I was the one who started it," she makes out and Giyu relaxes a bit. Was that it?
"Oh, umm well I don't know what to say. I just sort of felt compelled to take the blame instead. It wasn't that bad really, the punishment I mean," Giyu says. It really wasn't a big deal to him, it just felt right.
She lightens up, and she's staring at Giyu like he had just done some sort of trick she had never seen him do before.
"You mean to tell me that you did that in your own accord out of sheer kindness... for me?" Well, Giyu supposes that was true. Maybe a bit exaggerated but not entirely false.
"I... yes?" Giyu says and the answer makes her do a 180. Giyu stares at her back oddly, why was she being dramatic all of a sudden?
He hears her clap her hands on her face before turning around. Giyu's not sure if the red on her cheeks is because she's blushing or from slapping herself.
"While I do appreciate your gesture of kindness, I came here to apologize to you face to face," she says and Giyu's having a hard time believing that. Why would she sneak out only to apologize? She could've done this tomorrow instead of doing something this risky.
"And one more thing..." she says and Giyu feels her mood change completely. She's still looking away from him but he doesn't feel the nervousness from her anymore, she seems serious and it puts Giyu on edge.
"I know that Douma is going after you, and I feel like you should be careful around him Giyu. I have a bad feeling about him when it comes to you," she says gravely and Giyu thinks back on all his encounters with him. He sees it pretty clearly, he's no stranger to being a victim of bullying and while it feels tame now, he gets the feeling that Douma will start making moves soon. Ever since he's been acquainted with Shinobu, it seems as though Douma has had it out for him. He wonders... but he takes her warning to heart. He mutely nods at her.
"I know, I believe you. He seems to dislike me very much..." Giyu says and Shinobu ponders on that.
"Honestly... I wish he would leave the both of us alone... I don't wish to see you get hurt on my accord," she says and Giyu doesn't like the sad look on her face. To think even just talking about Douma would make her upset...
"I'll be fine. And whatever happens, it won't ever be your fault," Giyu says as he places his hands on Shinobu's shoulders. The action itself doesn't mean anything in Giyu's head, until he keeps his hands there and looks her straight in her eyes.
"Ah... okay," she says as she places her hands over his but makes no action to remove them. They're on his for barely a second before Giyu's slipping them and feeling his face overheat suddenly.
Woah, the heck was this feeling?
"I-I think it's starting to get pretty late Shinobu, I think you should start heading back to your cabin now," Giyu urges and he barely registers the crestfallen look on her face. It makes him feel bad but he's looking off to the trees, avoiding his gaze from her.
"Yeah you're right, have a goodnight Giyu! And be careful around Douma," she says and a small smile forms on her face.
"Goodnight, sleep well," he says and he's rushing back into his cabin. He places a fist over his beating heart which feels like it's about to pop right on out. The amount of adrenaline going through his body was insane right now...
"Ahh, I assume it went well my young student," a voice says and it scares the crap out of Giyu. He completely forgot he was sharing a cabin with Tengen.
"I-It's nothing! I'm just a bit out of breathe is all," Giyu states but Tengen isn't buying it one bit.
"Uh-huh, just tell me whatever happened tomorrow in the morning. I'm sleepy and I need my beauty sleep, ciao!" Tengen says and Giyu is super relieved that he's not pestering him with questions right now. Giyu wants to sleep this right off.
He slips into his bed and adjusts the blankets, getting comfortable and forcing himself to sleep. He still feels his racing heart in his chest, and his brain is going haywire with what had ocurred just moments ago. He's starting to view her differently, and he's not sure what'll happen next.
...Huh? For some reason, he finds himself smiling.
