"Mal?" Ben asked as he walked into the room he and Mal were staying in at Beast cabin.
"Hm?" She asked.
She looked at her husband in a daze as she tried to clear her mind. She was so confused and really needed to have some questions answered.
"What's going on?" he asked as he walked over and sat down. "You were supposed to meet me for breakfast downstairs, but you have been up here for a half an hour."
"Oh," she said as she looked back out the window. "I didn't even realize. Let's head down."
"Well, tell me what's wrong," he said as he took her hand and started to rub it. "You seem out of it."
She sighed. She didn't want to bring it up until they had gotten home, but she knew if she didn't talk about it she was going to go crazy.
"Well, I got an email from the museum, and they finally fixed everything from when Audrey broke in and even sent pictures," she explained.
"Okay?" He asked. "Was there something wrong?"
"No," she said as she shook her head. "Everything looked fine, but I saw my mother's scepter and I started thinking… How could Audrey grab it?"
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"Only someone who is blood related to my mom can grab it," she told him.
"What would happen if someone who is not blood related to her grabs it?"
"They would fall into a sleeping curse for 1,000 years."
Ben's mind started to spin too. This didn't make sense. Audrey was not a blood relative to Maleficent, but she used the scepter.
"Ben?" Mal asked, breaking him out of his thoughts. "I hate to do this, but I think I need to talk to my mom."
Ben sighed and threw his head back. This was not how he thought their honeymoon was going to end, but he knew his wife would be upset the rest of the time, until she knew what had happened.
"I am sorry," she said as she stood up and started to pace around the floor. "I know this is our honeymoon, but now that everything is going back to normal, missing pieces are coming together."
"Mal, it's fine," Ben said as he stood up and stopped her from pacing. "We have been together long enough for me to know that you are not going to let this go until you find out everything," he said as he kissed her forehead. "We are going to go home, but when we get this all figured out we are going to restart our honeymoon."
Mal laughed as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips to his. "I promise, we will have a whole redue."
"I will hold you to that, but let's get going," he said as he took her hand and led her toward the door. "I don't know how we are going to be able to talk to her, but I guess FG is going to have to meet us at the castle."
As Ben and Mal walked up the steps of Auradon castle, they were met with Ben's parents and Mal's dad.
"Um…" Hades said as he watched them walk up the steps. "The honeymoon over so soon?"
"More of on a pause," Ben said as he walked up to his mom and kissed her cheek. "Mal wants to talk to her mom."
"Um… okay," he said as he picked Maleficent out of his pocket and held her out for Mal.
She looked at her dad with a pointed, as if asking him if he was serious. She took her mom in her hand and looked at her. The lizard looked up at Mal, tilting her head side to side, as if she was trying to understand what Mal was thinking.
"How…"
"Hello, your majesties," FG said as she scurried up the stairs. "I was not expecting you two to be back from your honeymoon for another week."
"We just came back for a bit," Mal said as she turned to look at the older woman. "I… I just needed to talk with my mother… and I was wondering if there was any way you could turn her back?"
The fairy looked at Mal with wide eyes. Not that she was afraid of what would happen, but because she did not know how to turn her back.
"I… I don't think I am able to," FG said as she walked up to Mal. "Your mother placed the curse on herself. I would…"
"Is there any way she could do it?" Mal asked. "I know she has changed. She doesn't hiss at me anymore. Before I moved in here she would sleep on a pillow next to me. Hell, she even loves Ben!" She said as she rubbed her mom's scales. "She knows what love is… so why is she still a lizard?"
Maleficent jumped out of the hands of her daughter and scurried into the castle, making everyone turn to see where she had gone.
"Mom?" Mal called as she followed her.
Everyone followed Mal as she followed her mother through the castle, and into Belle's library. Maleficent scurried up to one of the bookshelves, making the others stop to look at her jump from shelf to shelf.
"Mom?" Mal called, but the lizard did not stop moving through the shelves.
"What is she doing?" Adam asked as he walked next to his daughter-in-law.
"I have no…"
A book slammed to the floor, making everyone jump. Mal walked up to the book, just as her mom climbed on. It was a book she never saw in the library, but that would be easy because there were thousands of books.
"Are you trying to tell us something?" She asked as she looked at her mom.
The lizard stuck her tongue out and tilted her head, before Mal put her on her shoulder. She walked over to the couch, which was surrounded by 3 chairs and a coffee table. She sat on the floor and opened the book to the first page, as everyone sat around her.
"Okay mom," she said. "What is it?"
Maleficent hopped off from her daughter's shoulder, landed on the book, and started to run in place on the pages, making them turn really fast.
"What is she looking for?" Ben asked as he sat on the floor next to his wife.
"I have no idea," Mal said as she watched her mom flip through the pages.
Maleficent stopped and flopped down, breathing heavily trying to catch her breath.
"Come here," Mal said as she picked up her mom and started to run her fingers along her back. "Did you tire yourself out?"
Hades sat on the edge of his seat, looking over Mal's shoulder. "Mal?" He said as he tapped on her shoulder. "You may want to look at this."
Mal looked at the book and her eyes widened slightly when she saw what page her mom had stopped on.
"The Moors," Mal said as she passed her mom to Ben. "What is the Moors?"
FG walked over to sit behind Ben as she pointed at the book. "The Moors is a wonderful place, full of magical creatures."
"You say it like it is a real place," Mal said.
"It's because it is," Belle said, making Ben and Mal look up at her. "The Moors used to be the home of your mother."
Mal looked at her mother who was fast asleep and in Ben's hand. "What…"
"When I united the kingdoms, I changed the name of the Moors to the Enchanted Forest," he explained. "I felt that it was more explanatory."
"But the enchanted forest does not have…"
"There is a part of the forest that is surrounded by a thorn barrier," Adam said as he cut his son off. "That part of the forest has not been visited for many years."
"And my mom is from there?" Mal asked.
"She is," FG said as she nodded her head.
"If that place is full of magical creatures and even magic," she said as she looked up from her mom. "Do you think if we take her there, that she could transform back?"
"I am not sure," FG said. "I cannot guarantee it, but maybe if we go, we could give it a shot."
The journey to the Enchanted forest was not long, but it felt long to Mal. She could not stop thinking about everything, and if she was honest with herself, she was starting to get a headache. She had even yet to tell any of their friends she and Ben were back because she did not want any of them to worry.
"We're here," FG said, making Mal look at their surroundings.
They were in the depths of the forest, and when they got out of the car, they looked up at the giant wall.
"Wow," Mal said. "You would have thought we would have noticed this, because the fairy cottage is not that far away, but…"
"We were a little preoccupied at the time," Ben said as he took her hand into his.
"Yet, you have been to a fairy cottage before and never noticed it?" She asked as she turned to him with a smirk on her face.
"Let's not," he said with a laugh. "I didn't want to go those times, so I kept myself preoccupied."
"Yes dear," Mal said before she took a couple steps toward the wall. "Now the question is… how do we…"
The wall parted, making Mal jump back, hitting Ben in the process.
"Woah," she said. "That…"
"They are probably letting you in because they know who you are, Mal," FG said as she walked up next to her. "Come on dear."
They all walked forward, but Mal clung to Ben as if she was scared. She didn't know what this place was going to consist of, but she was not going to let anything happen to her husband.
They walked further into the forest, and when they came to a beautiful stream of water, Maleficent hopped off Hades shoulder and started to run toward the water. She jumped into the water, and rolled onto her stomach.
"So your mom can swim, but you can't," Ben said, poking fun at Mal.
"Do you like being married?" She asked as she looked up at him with squinted eyes.
"To you? Yes."
"Then it may be a good idea not to make fun of me," she said, making him laugh.
"Yes love," he said, making her laugh.
They lost sight of Maleficent, until a bright light under a blossoming weeping willow caught their attention. They rushed over and when the light died down, they saw Maleficent standing there, back in her human form. She looked up at the 6 adults standing in front of her, before she smiled at the purple haired fae.
"Mal," she said as she walked forward.
Mal looked at her mom with a shocked and confused look. She looked different… and not in a bad way. She was a little taller, her hair was long and brown, her cheekbones were still high, but her eyes were a vibrant green color and her lips were ruby red instead of black. But what stood out most were her horns. Mal had never seen her mothers horns without their cover, and to be honest, Mal thought that her mother was just faking having them. Mal took a step toward her mother and proceeded with caution.
"Mal… look at you," Maleficent said as she looked at her daughter. "A queen. I am so proud of you, pumpkin."
"Mom?" Mal asked as she got closer. "You look…"
"Different?" Maleficent asked as Mal stood in front of her. "I know. This is what I used to look like, before the Isle."
"I don't…"
"The Moors has a much different kind of magic than the rest of Auradon," Maleficent explained. "And me being a fae, the Isle barrier did its number on me."
Mal wrapped her arms around her mother. It had been 3 years since she had last seen her mom, and this was even different than before.
"Now," Maleficent said as she pulled away from her daughter. "I heard you wanted to talk to me," she said.
"Oh, yeah," Mal said as if she had completely forgotten the reason why she wanted her mom changed back. "Do you remember on the Isle, when you told me to get your scepter?" She asked, making her mom nod her head. "You told me that no one could touch it unless they were blood related to you or else they would be put under a sleeping curse for 1000 years."
"Not my proudest moment, but I do remember," Maleficent said.
"Okay, well… I don't know what you remember or even know from about 6 months ago," Mal started. "But Audrey, Aurora's daughter, grabbed the scepter." Maleficent's eyes widened, and the other adults' eyes did the same. "How is that even possible?"
"Audrey grabbed the scepter?" Maleficent asked.
"Yes," Mal said. "I know you lived in my room at the castle and I don't know what you knew or not, but she cursed Auradon. Turned people to stone, turned Ben into a beast, even put people under the sleeping curse."
Maleficent stayed quiet as her daughter told her what had happened, but her mind was going a hundred miles an hour. How could this be? She asked herself.
"Mom?"
"I need to see Aurora."
Mal looked at her mom with wide eyes, confused at the response.
"What?"
"I need to see her," Maleficent said again. "Can you please take me?"
"Um… yes, but…"
"I will explain later," she said. "But I just need to see her."
"Okay…"
Maleficent held Mal the entire way to Beauty castle, and with a quick call from Ben, Aurora, Phillip, and Audrey were standing on the steps of the castle. They had gotten out of the limo, and the beauty royals were very confused.
"Aren't…"
"Yeah yeah," Ben said as he waved Audrey's question away. "We put our honeymoon on pause. We brought someone who would like to speak to your mother."
"Me?' Aurora asked. "Why…"
Maleficent stepped out of the limo and looked up at the blonde haired woman. It had been many years since they had seen each other, and neither knew how to feel about it. Maleficent walked up the steps, quickly, before taking Aurora's face into her hands. She examined Aurora's face, before smiling and shedding tears.
"Amara." Was all she said. "My sweet baby, Amara."
Until next time my Lovies! xoxoGM
