It was late afternoon when Shadow finally opened his eyes and sat up in bed. He rubbed his eyes then stretched out, which included his wings, relaxing himself afterwards. He slowly got out of bed, grabbed his phone and left the bedroom to go and get some breakfast or would that be supper?
"What time is it?" Shadow whispered when he entered the kitchen.
"Shit, I didn't mean to sleep in until five-thirty. No matter just means I wont have to wait long for Sonic to get back. Then I'll give him a special reward for coming back in one piece, I'll let him take the lead on things this time." Shadow said to himself as he got his mug from the draining board and prepared his hot drink.
Shadow took his mug and phone then made his way into the living room. Putting his phone on the coffee table and grabbing the TV remote there then sat on the sofa and curled his legs up to himself while leaning on the armrest. Shadow turned the telly on and put the main news station on to see if there was any new information on the vampire attacks. He watched for another half and hour as he occasionally sipped at his now warm drink of blood then froze as the news reporter mentioned Sonic and Eggman.
"This just in, Eggman's latest attack was brutal and it seems there is no sign of Sonic and his friends. Eggman has been defeated but the blast from the explosion of his killer robot has left the area wiped off, leaving little to no life there." The female reporter sadly announced then added with small tears in her eyes, "it appears that Sonic and his friends were caught up in the blast and never made it out alive. Are deepest condolences to Sonic's husband, Master Shadow Casadonte` for his sudden loss. Sonic and his friends will never be forgotten and will always remain in our hearts."
Shadow couldn't believe what he was hearing and couldn't help the tears to fall silently out of his eyes and down his cheeks. He was too in shock to move or think as the reporter went onto the news about the de-fangings, staying like this for a good two minutes solid now and counting. Even the panicked knock on the front door didn't drag Shadow out of his state.
"Shadow, open up it's Michael!" Michael desperately banged on the front door with a worried expression, having also just seen the news.
Shadow still didn't move as his thoughts of his beloved being dead ran through his mind, making more tears fall and his heart shatter into pieces.
"Shadow, come on I know you are in there I can just about hear the TV…don't make me pick the lock again!" Michael desperately called through the letter box.
"Th-this can't be happening, i-it has to be a dream." Shadow whispered as he stared out in front of him, shaking a little and almost dropping his half consumed drink.
"Right, you leave me no choice Shadow, I'm picking the lock." Michael sighed then got to work with said task.
"H-he…he can't be gone, he just can't be." Shadow said as he began to sob out loud.
Michael managed to get the door open and rushed over to Shadow. He stopped and gave a sad expression as he slowly sat next to a very upset and crying vampire.
"How c-can he just l-leave me?" Shadow cried out as more tears fell.
"Shadow, there's no hard evidence that Sonic and his friends died in that blast ok. The news reporters and the police are just assuming. For all we know they could be on their way back now." Michael tried to assure the vampire prince as he gently pulled him into a hug and taking the mug out of Shadows hands, putting it on the coffee table.
Shadow hugged back tightly and cried harder at the thought of never seeing or hearing his husband ever again. Michael stroked Shadows quills and made shushing noises to try and calm Shadow down but it seems nothing was working.
"Shadow, you need to try and calm down otherwise you're going to pass out." Michael said softly as he broke the hug and steadied Shadow to sit upright.
"W-we spoke on the phone no more than fourteen hour ago. H-he was fine, how can he be gone?" Shadow whispers with a depressive tone and look in his eyes.
"I'm so sorry Shadow but try to think positively ok, they might still be alive and on their way back now." Michael said with a sincere smile, wiping a tear away from Shadows cheek as he spoke softly.
"I can't live without him, I need him here." Shadow cried out as the tears began to fall again.
"I-it's just t-to soon." Shadow said then was pulled into another hug by Michael.
"Think positively Shads." Michael whispered and he hugged Shadow securely.
Suddenly Shadows phone went off and was vibrating on the coffee table. Michael glanced down at it then grinned at the caller ID. He moved to pick it up and answered the phone as Shadow continued to cry out loudly.
"Hey it's Michael."
"Put the phone to Shadow's ear please." Sonic said as he could hear his husband crying his heart out over the news of his so called death.
Michael moved the phone to Shadows ear.
"Shadow babe, I'm fine ok. I'm alright and not dead. I'm almost home and I cannot wait to see you." Sonic assured with a soft and warm tone.
"S-Sonic, is that really you?" Shadow croaked out with a sniffle as he heard Sonics voice on the phone.
"Yes love it's me. The reporters got it wrong and me along with everyone else are fine. Just relax ok, I'm about an hour or so away." Sonic said in a soothing voice.
"Oh thank chaos you and the others are alright. I really don't know what I'll do if I ever did lose you so suddenly." Shadow sighed out in relief but yet to break the hug he was sharing with Michael or take the phone from him.
"Like wise babe, listen don't worry ok but I have to go now. I'll see you very soon, love you, bye." Sonic said with a bright tone.
"Ok my love I'll see you soon, love you too bye." Shadow whispers softly as a sudden tiredness washes over him.
Michael removes the phone from Shadows ear and places it back on the coffee table then lifts Shadow off of himself. He then helps Shadow to sit up straight on the sofa with gentle movements.
"See what did I tell ya Shads." Michael softly smiles as he speaks in a more cheery tone.
"I never want another scare like that again, thank you Michael." Shadow softly replies with tired looking half lidded eyes.
"What are family for if not to help each other?" Michael smiled softly as he spoke, they might not be blood related but do classed themselves as family nonetheless.
After over an hour had passed, Shadow was pacing about the living room and on occasions looking out of the window. The glass to all of the windows had a special dark tinted sun blocker on them so it was safe to have the curtains open during the day to allow some level of light in without it harming Shadow. Michael had returned home but had told Shadow to call if anything happens.
"Where is he?" Shadow worryingly whispered as he stopped by the window and looked out the front in all directions.
Another forty minutes and Shadow was in a panic with his phone to his ear calling his husband.
"This is Sonic Casadonte`, please leave a message and I'll try to get back to you." Sonics voice recording said then Shadow hung up with a sigh, not leaving a message.
After another slow thirty minutes went by Shadow couldn't take it any more and decided that it was dark enough outside to look for his husband, thinking he would bump into Sonic as Sonic made his way back home. He rushed out, used his gift to lock up then made a mad dash to Tails' place. Shadow figuring Sonic might be there and if not he was going to check all of their friends homes. Shadow reached the city and decided to check Amy's apartment first, since it was on the way. Why go passed it then go back later right.
"Ow, what the hell?" Shadow complained as a sharp object hit his neck.
Shadow swayed as he removed the dart and gasped in panic as he knew exactly what was happening. Before he hit the ground he was grabbed and dragged into a dark alleyway. Meanwhile, just as Shadow was being attacked, Sonic had just reached his front door and used his keys to enter.
"Shadow sorry it took longer than I said…Shadow!" Sonic called as he closed the front door and walked into the living room, then called out his husbands name in concern.
"Maybe he went next door." Sonic shrugged then once again left the house and jumped the small brick wall, separating his and Chases front gardens, and stood outside Chase and Michaels front door.
Sonic rang the bell and waited with a smile for one of the two to answer. Michael opened the door and smiled at Sonic.
"Sonic what are you doing here? Shadows waiting for you to get your blue butt home." Michael grinned as relief washed over him to see Sonic was indeed ok.
"So he's not here?" Sonic frowned as his concern grew.
"No he is supposed to be at home. Chase, Shadow's not home!" Michael said in surprise then called to his boyfriend with worry.
Chase came running to the front door and smiled at Sonic.
"He probably went to your friends homes to look for you, I know I would if I were him. Does he have his phone with him do you know?" Chase calmly said as he stood next to Michael.
"No it's on the coffee table. I'll ring the guys and tell them to keep Shadow there if he turns up. I'll let you know as soon as I get word ok." Sonic forces a smile and waves a bye then jumps the wall again to go back inside of his and Shadows house.
Sonic sits on the sofa and calls his friends up one by one. Now that they knew Shadow may be on his way to one of them, alls Sonic could do now is sit and wait for one of them to call back. He would have ran out in search for Shadow but didn't want to risk missing him and running all over the place, the best thing he though was to stay here and just wait.
"While I wait I'll watch the news and see if they have took me and the guys off the list of the dead." Sonic grins then does just that.
An hour of watching the news and not getting any calls from his friends, Sonic starts to panic then he turned the telly up as the reporter was standing outside the hospital with a worried and panicked tone and look. The red emergency broadcast words under the reporter going across the screen repeatedly saying, another de-fanging just moments ago.
"Th-this just in, there had been another dreadful de-fanging and our worst fears have come true. The victim is at the hospital being treated as we speak. He was found just over twenty minutes ago by a concerned citizen who rushed him to the hospital in his car. The victims is non other than Master Shadow Casadonte`. His father is unaware but will be getting a call any moment now. Master Shadow is in a stable condition but has lost a lot of blood, his de-fanging is the worse one yet. I will have an update on him soon and we all wish him the best. I'm Craig Downs and now it's back to Carrie for the update on our hero Sonic Casadonte`." Craig announced sadly.
"Thank you Craig…yes our beloved hero is alive and well and we are…"
Sonic had switched the telly off and rushed out of the house, bumping into Chase and Michael on the way down the drive. They exchanged sad worried looks and Chase made a portal to the hospital for them all. They walked out of the portal and ran into the hospital, ignoring the gasps from the people there.
"WHERE'S MY HUSBAND!" Sonic shouts out in panic and fear when they reached the front desk.
"Mr Casadonte` please, there is no need to shout. We know you are very worried and concerned but please try and keep calm." The human receptionist at the desk said with a slightly firm tone.
"WHERE'S MY SON!" Collin shouted with anger and fear as he entered the hospital and walked towards the desk.
