Soon it was time for Shadow to return to the mortal realm and collect Sonic, if he was able to spend the night too. They were all standing in the palace garden and saying a good bye. Shadow waved bye then walked through his portal, it shutting behind him. He appeared in his kitchen and it was just coming up for six o'clock. Sonic was by the cooker getting a pizza out of the oven when Shadow arrived.
"How was the family babe?" Sonic asked as he put the cooked pizza on the side and closed the oven door with his foot.
"They are all doing very well and asked if we want to spend the night tonight. I said I'll run it by you first." Shadow smiled as he took a seat up the table and watched his husbands movements.
"Yeah sure, sound fun babe. We leaving soon then?" Sonic replied as he cut the pizza up into six pieces.
"I need to go to the police station first to speak to Detective Jones then we can pack an over night bag and go." Shadow casually said as he continued to smile and watch Sonic.
"Right ok. I'll come with ya to the station." Sonic said as he plated the pizza then walked over to the table and took a seat.
"How was the conference my love?" Shadow asked with a warm tone.
"Super boring, it was just a bunch of questions on what happened with Eggman and what we plan to do about the destruction that blast caused. We said we would help out in fixing what Egghead did like we always do. They asked about you too and wish you all the best." Sonic smiled then took a bite of his pizza.
"Oh, I'll pitch in if you like…guess what?" Shadow said then got a little excited in his voice towards the end of his sentence.
"Erm…your mum's having twins?" Sonic grinned playfully.
"Nope…I'm going to be getting a brother." Shadow chuckled and thanking the gods above his mum wasn't having twins, not that he would mind but it would mean double the work for his parents.
"No way, that is so cool. You ok with that though?" Sonic replied with a bright smile.
"I am now and I cannot wait until he gets here. On the off chance he is gifted he will have his big brother there to help and guide him through it." Shadow smiled happily as he spoke.
"See nothing to worry about Shads, you would make an awesome big brother." Sonic chuckled lightly then carried on eating his dinner.
"Sure will because I am awesome in every way." Shadow agreed with a smug grin.
After Sonic had finished his pizza and put the leftovers in the fridge, the two sat on the soft and cuddled as they waited for the sun to go down. Ten minutes later and Shadow was getting suggestive with his husband, kissing and licking on his neck. Sonic was softly moaning at the actions and was starting to want more as he became aroused.
"How about we go to our room and have some sexy time before we head out?" Shadow purred softly then nipped Sonics neck teasingly.
"Screw that babe, I'm yours here and now." Sonic said a little breathlessly then dragged Shadow on top of himself.
It was a good job the curtains were drawn in the living room, otherwise passer-bys would be in for a shock if they happened to look in through the window. When they had finished and showered it was just gone eight which meant it was one hundred percent safe of Shadow to walk out of the house, it helped that it was a very cloudy evening too. The two walked hand in hand to the police station and it only took them thirty-five minutes to get there. When they entered it was once again packed and full of panicked and scared people, mainly vampires. The couple walked over to the front desk and Shadow cleared his throat to get the busy receptionist attention.
"One moment please sir." She said as she was writing out something on a piece of paper.
"Hey no cuts, go to the back like everyone else." A mortal bull dog growled with crossed arms and narrowed eyes at the hedgehogs.
"Excuse me, are you talking to me?" Shadow smirked with crossed arms as he turned to face the bull dog.
"Yeah what are you deaf? Get to the back of the line Strips." The dog smirked then pointed to the end of the line, that was pretty much by the front entrance of the station.
"I would watch your tongue mortal and show me some respect." Shadow narrowed his eyes with annoyance at the dog.
"Yeah and you're going to make me?" The dog spat back, forming one of his hands into a fist.
"Whoa, guys no need to fight in a police station. Do you want to get arrested?" Sonic said with wide eyes when he saw what the dog was going to do to his husband.
"Mind your own business rat." The dog barked to Sonic as he glared at Shadow.
"Hedgehog, I'm clearly a hedgehog." Sonic grumbled feeling very offended by the name.
"Master Shadow, what brings you here?" Detective Jones called then walked over to the young vampire prince and his husband.
"And Sonic, it's good to see you too." Jones added with a smile at Sonic.
"I need to have a word with you if you are free." Shadow calmly said as he looked at Jones with a frown and crossed arms.
"Is everything alright?" Jones asked as he glanced at the angered bull dog glaring hatefully at Shadow.
"I would like to say things are fine but they are not. I and my husband will not be verbally attacked in a police station and feel threatened by your citizens." Shadow said in a serious manner and frowning deeper then he glanced at the bull dog.
"I see and would you like to press charges your highness?" Jones asked with a serious look.
"I will let it slide this time but I will not be so generous the next." Shadow unhappily said as he narrowed his eyes at the now fearful looking bull dog.
"Understood, please follow me you two. And you, consider yourself very lucky." Jones said then led the way into the station.
"Shads, you alright? You seem kind of defensive." Sonic whispers into his husbands ear quietly.
"I am fine my love but I will not put up with being threatened, I have already been attacked and de-fanged. The last thing I want is to be set upon again or feel unsafe here." Shadow whispers back in a serious tone, Sonic giving him an understanding look in return.
They were led into the investigation room where some officers were hard at work. They walked into Jones' office and the door closed for quiet and privacy. Sonic and Shadow took a seat and Jones sat in his behind the desk.
"I wish to assist you all in your investigations. Since I'm no longer a risk and had already been attacked, I would be of help to you all. I also suspect there is more than one group of people at large here as evidences to the attacks shows." Shadow said with a serious tone and look.
"I'm sorry Shadow but we cannot put you at further risk but saying that we can use all the help we can get in catching these people." Jones replied with a smile.
"Shadow are you sure you want to do this?" Sonic raised a brow in concern for his husbands safety.
"Sonic what's the worst that can now happen to me? They wont suspect their victim to hunt them down or pursuit them. I also have connections back in the Underworld therefore it would make things easier to relate information and require help if needed." Shadow smirked at Sonic.
"So when you say you suspect there is more than one group, how did you come to think that?" Jones asked with a curious look.
"You remember the two victims from the other night? They were both defanged in a very close time proximity, both in different locations and hours away from each other. This has led me to believe there are more than one group out there attacking my citizens." Shadow explains with a serious look.
"How did you know that?" Jones asked with some shock in his tone.
"I have a very good memory and I've spoken to each victim personally, all forty nine of them." Shadow smirked playfully at the detective.
"You should have spoken to yourself babe then it would be all fifty." Sonic teased playfully.
"I'll interview myself later in front of the mirror." Shadow chuckled lightly then looked serious when facing Jones.
"I'm so watching that babe and I'll record it for evidence too." Sonic chuckled a little as he spoke.
"Maybe your help with this investigation will be valuable to us. Welcome aboard Master Shadow, we look forward in working closely with you." Jones smiled cheerfully at the vampire prince.
"And I you. Also I will be requesting some help from a member of the Underworld police force if that would be alright. I know him personally and is really good at what he does." Shadow smiled back as he spoke.
"Sure bring him in tomorrow night with you. Oh and you and he will need access badges." Jones said then went into his desk draw and got two spare key cards out, handing them to Shadow.
"Thank you sir, please call me if anything happens. I will be in the Underworld tonight and for the day tomorrow, doing a bit of research on that tattoo. Our library may have information on it since we have books from all different realms, it could be people from a different realm doing this. It is not a guarantee I will be able to find anything on it but it is worth a look." Shadow said then he and Sonic stood up.
"Of course and I will see you tomorrow night with this Underworld officer." Jones grinned as he too stood up.
"Oh he's more than just an officer, he's a homicide detective with a high degree in forensic science and my sisters boyfriend slash future husband." Shadow chuckled lightly as he took Sonics hand into his then teleported them both back home.
"Right…no pressure there then." Jones laughed a little as he retook his seat, now alone in his office.
The couple appeared in their bedroom and Sonic raised a brow at Shadow.
"What?" Shadow questioned with a confused look.
"You are getting help from Max? Why do I get the feeling you are up to something." Sonic said with a shake of his head.
"I my love are up to nothing. We should pack an over night bag then make our way to the palace. I'm sure mum will be anxiously waiting for us once I tell her we are on our way." Shadow smirked a little deviously at Sonic.
Sonic sighed then grabbed a few things together as well as did Shadow. Shadow text his mother to say they were just gathering a few thing up and will be over in ten minutes as he got ready. When they made sure the house was locked up, after Sonic went over to next door to say they weren't going to be there, Shadow made a portal in the living room. They stepped through with the portal closing behind them both.
"There they are." Emily cried out with a happy tone as she and Collin waited by the front entrance.
"Yes my love, that I can see." Collin rolled his eyes as he softly spoke.
Once Shadow and Sonic reached the top step, Emily grabbed her son and gave him a tight squeeze, hugging him closely. Sonic and Collin exchanged looks.
"Hormones." Collin whispers to Sonic in a very quiet tone so his wife couldn't here.
"I do not envy you." Sonic whispers back with a playful grin.
"It's good to see you again mum…c-could you let me go please." Shadow nervously said as his mother tightened her hold.
"Your turn Sonic." Emily smiled as she let go then grabbed Sonic and did the same to him.
"H-hello Emily, it's good t-to see you again." Sonic managed to say as he was being bear-hugged by his mother-in-law.
"Emily my love, shall we go inside now?" Collin smiled at his wife as she hugged Sonic to death.
Emily broke the hug and smiled brightly at her husband then nodded. They walked inside the palace, Emily and Collin led the way while Sonic and Shadow walked behind them a little.
"I forgot how strong your mum is Shads, I think my ribs are bruised." Sonic whispers quietly as they walk.
Shadow chuckles softly and takes Sonics hand into his. They reach the lounge and took a seat on the sofas to have a quick chat before going to bed. Emily and Collin sat on one while Shadow and Sonic sat on the other with their over night bag resting beside the sofa they sat on.
"I can't wait for our mother-son time tomorrow Shadow, it's going to be wonderful. We haven't spent time alone together for months and months and months." Emily beamed out with excitement.
"Surly it hasn't been that long, has it?" Shadow raised a brow and feeling a little unsure on exactly how long ago he and his mother spent time together.
"Ok it hasn't been that long but it feels like it." Emily giggled a little as she spoke.
Just as Shadow was about to reply he felt his phone vibrate in his jacket pocket. Sighing he took it out and answered while also giving an apologetic look to his parents.
"Hello Detective Jones, is everything alright?" Shadow asked with concern in his voice.
"It's happened again, three more vampires have been attacked at the same time. They were all together in a group, these attackers must be getting desperate to get their numbers up. We all just wish we knew why they are doing this." Jones seriously said with high concern.
"Right, I'll be there in a few minutes ok. I'll meet you at the hospital, bye." Shadow said then hung the phone up with a heavy sigh.
"I'm sorry but three more vampire have been de-fanged and they were all together when it happened. I need to go to the hospital and talk to the victims in person. I will be back as soon as I'm done ok." Shadow explained then stood up.
"Would you like someone to go with you?" Collin asked with a very concerned expression, standing up also.
"I will be fine, thanks for the offer though." Shadow smiled reassuringly then used his gift to teleport him to the mortal hospital in the centre of the city.
