A Knight's Christmas

Chapter 3

Bonnie's lips curled into a smile when she returned to the mansion after lunch and noticed the mistletoes everywhere. She knew immediately who was responsible for the additional decoration and was looking forward to fall into the mistletoe trap. Hopefully, she would be alone when the culprit would spot her under the mistletoe.

Devon luckily hadn't noticed the newly added decoration when he had walked into the mansion with her. Bonnie hoped he wouldn't notice that she was happy when he excused himself and headed to his office to make some phone calls. She decided to stay in the living room, admiring Michael's work and wondering where he could be. Little did she know that Michael was closeby watching her. He had left the room upon hearing her and Devon return and had been hiding until she was alone in the room.

"Mistletoe".

She turned to see Michael standing behind her and pointing to the small mistletoe which was hanging above her.

"You know what this means, Bon." He said with a big grin on his face.

"I do?" She teased him. "Maybe you'll have to refresh my memory. It's been a while since I've stood under a mistletoe."

"It would be a pleasure, Dr. Barstow." He ran his fingers through her hair and moved closer to her. His lips met hers and they melted into a kiss. A kiss which ended too fast for his taste.

"What's wrong?" He mumbled, disappointed that it had only been a quick kiss. "You weren't so shy last night when you sneaked into my room. Which by the way was a quite unexpected but pleasant surprise."

Last night. Michael had come back from his case earlier than expected while Bonnie was busy working on a new program for KITT. When she found out that he was already back, she decided to continue working the next day and stop by his room instead.

Michael knew that his remark would result in Bonnie's face turning pink as always when he either complimented her or hinted at their activities when they were alone.

As predicted, Bonnie felt her cheeks blush as she playfully slapped Michael on his arm. "What happened last night in your room was private and your door was locked."

"And I hope we can repeat this private event again tonight." Michael grinned at her.

"I'm trying to be serious here." Bonnie's voice sounded upset. "We have to be careful. This isn't your room or mine. Devon is only a few doors away. He could walk in any moment and catch us." Why didn't Michael understand that this was what she was worried about? "I saw RC heading towards the kitchen only a few minutes ago. It's only a matter of minutes once he'll show up and eat the cookies he's stuffed into his pockets. So, hopefully you now understand why I'm being shy."

"Bon, it's the Christmas season. And there are mistletoes everywhere. No one will be surprised if they'll spot us kiss." Michael rested his hands on her arms to show her that there was nothing to worry about. "It's the perfect excuse. We can kiss whenever we want. We just have to make sure we do it when under a mistletoe."

She couldn't help but smile. This was Michael and this was one of the many reasons why she loved him. "You've thought of everything, haven't you?"

He nodded proudly. "Trust me. Devon won't find out that the mistletoe isn't the only reason why I kiss you." He smiled at her. She truly made him feel like he was the luckiest man in the world. "But you'll have to remember to yell at me afterwards. Shouldn't be too hard for you as I've given you enough reason to make you angry in the last years."

"Good point." Bonnie sat down on the couch and Michael plopped down next to her. "We really have to tell them soon. The longer we'll wait the harder it will be. It's not fair, neither to Devon and RC nor to us. I hate having to sneak around."

He took her hand and caressed it. He hated not telling Devon the truth as well. He was so happy to be with Bonnie that he wanted the whole world to know that he was in love with her. They had decided against telling anyone because they were afraid that Devon wouldn't approve and tell them to choose between their relationship and their job. Or that Michael's enemies would try to hurt Bonnie. "We'll tell them. Soon. And meanwhile, we'll enjoy a kiss here and there under a mistletoe and nightly visits in our rooms."

"It's a good thing our rooms are adjacent." Bonnie rested her head on his shoulder for a moment.

"Too bad there aren't connecting doors between the rooms." This would make sneaking around a lot easier. No more excuses that he had run out of toilet paper. "And after Devon's annual Christmas party, you, KITT and I will head back to Boston to spend Christmas with your family. It'll be just the two of us and KITT on this road trip and we'll stop at the inn at the lake again. No hiding and no sneaking around. At least not at the inn. Or have you changed your mind and told your parents that their suspicion that we are more than friends is now correct?"

She shook her head. "No, I haven't told them yet." They had discussed telling Emily and Jack, but Bonnie had decided against it as she was afraid her parents could mention it to Devon. She didn't want anyone to find out before they actually would have told Devon the truth. "Are you sure you are up for another family holiday?" He nodded and she continued. "I'm looking forward to our trip, especially to our stop at the inn. I can't wait to go back there and be alone with you for a few days at a place where we can hold hands and kiss in public." She whispered as Michael moved closer to kiss her. Immediately, she backed away and stood up from the couch.

He looked at her, puzzled by her reaction. "What's wrong?"

"Not here." She quickly said. "There's no mistletoe."

He laughed and followed her to the fireplace where he had hung up a mistletoe above the stockings with everyone's names on them. "Better?"

"A lot." She smiled as his lips moved closer to her face and gently touched hers. She kissed him back, happy to have a good excuse for their display of affection if someone walked in.
