Post-Canon
"That watch is new?" Donna asks when she sees him come out of the dressing room and notices that watch she doesn't recognize.
He shyly climbs the right corner of his mouth. "Yes and no..."
"What would that be like?" She asks softly as she sees her husband's expression as she approaches him.
"It was my dad's." He says almost without a voice. "I don't wear it, I just had it there and I don't know... I wanted to wear it."
Donna takes his hand. "I really like the way it looks on you." She tells him tenderly and kisses his wrist, just above the watch.
"I have a hard time talking about him and Lipchitz said maybe having him around would somehow help, and I came up with this."
"It's a good idea." She intertwines her fingers with his. "He was a man of watches."
"How did you notice?"
"He always had a different one."
"And why did you remember his watches?" He pauses briefly. "You always remember everything, I know, but..."
"I suppose I always wanted to know about him, knowing that he was the most important person to you. Whenever I saw him, I tried to meet him a little more, to get to know you more."
Harvey says nothing, just hugs her by the neck and she responds by hugging him by his back, rubbing her palms on his shirt.
"You know I'm here to hear you talk about him whenever you want. Right?"
"I know." He says on the verge of tears.
Donna hugs him tightly and gives him a tender kiss on his neck.
"And it's okay if you need to cry." She whispers, with her lips against his skin.
"I thought it was a closed wound and it never was." He sobs.
"I know, Harvey. I know." She murmurs and rubs his shoulder blades with her palms.
Harvey stays a few more minutes in the safety of his wife's arms until he separates a little from her. Before he can dry his tears, Donna gently does so with her fingers.
"I have a hard time talking about him... And I hadn't noticed until now."
"You didn't have a very healthy duel, Harvey."
"I know."
"And I could never forgive myself not to have hugged you when I told you..."
"You know..." He gently takes her down her cheek and caresses her face with his thumb. "I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to tell me. Not about him or my mom." He pauses and swallows saliva. "And back then, I didn't encourage myself to ask either, Donna." He sighs. "Don't feel guilty, you've always given me everything you could since the relationship we had at this moment. I even know you didn't hug me to take care of me." She nods slightly. "It's all right." He smiles at her and kisses her. "Maybe you can hug me now."
"Always, Harvey." She says by hugging him again.
Harvey takes refuge in her again, as he begins to remember something with Gordon.
"You know..." Harvey separates from her and sits on the edge of the bed. Donna sits next to him and takes his left hand among hers. "When it was my 15th birthday, my dad wanted to give me a watch, because he said all men had to wear one and I didn't want to. I wanted a new baseball bat." Harvey giggles and so does Donna, looking at him carefully all the time. "But, no matter how much I insisted, he bought me a watch that I hated at this time." He giggles again. "Wait..."
Harvey gets up to get something in a drawer and comes back with the watch in his hand.
"I think you know it." He says sitting next to her again. "I changed the strap a few times, but it's the same watch as..."
"You wore the first day at the firm... And in the important trials."
"You pay a lot of attention to watches." He says funny and she smiles.
"Wait... That's the watch you had the night you came to my apartment." She remembers. "I took it from you."
"I was wearing it for the audience..." He pauses and takes Donna's hand. "But, that day I thought a lot about the watch and my dad." He sighs. "About the time we wasted and I didn't want to waste anymore." He kisses her knuckles. "And from that day on I stopped wearing it for work. I only wear it for important days between us." He pauses because the next thing he's going to say is a little embarrassing to him. "I feel like it was something my dad wanted me to realize. About you."
"Your dad always said you'd notice one day." She smiles at him.
"Yes, well. He told me, too." He giggles. "Is it wrong if I think he had anything to do with this?"
"No, Harvey. It's not bad. It's beautiful."
Harvey rests his head on her shoulder and she rests her head on his.
"I think Lipchitz's exercise worked." She tells him as she takes his hand, strokes his watch with her fingers, and he smiles. "And I think your dad must be happy for us from somewhere."
"I want to believe that."
"Believe it, Harvey."
"I do." He closes his eyes and sighs. "I do."
Donna moves her head slowly until being face-to-face with his husband.
"I wish I could go with you sometime to his grave. Of course, if you want." She pauses. "Just so I can tell him that his son finally pulled his head out of his own ass."
He giggles and takes her by her cheek with his left hand. "I would love it…" Donna grins at him and puts her hand on his wrist.
"When you want." She responds by stroking his skin with her thumb.
They finish bringing their faces closer until their foreheads meet and their noses rub.
"Really, Harvey. I'm here, for whatever you need… Always."
"I love you, Donna." He kisses her softly.
"I love you too, Harvey." She responds and gently crushes her lips against his.
